Stus-List 37/40 for sale

2019-02-26 Thread Tom Buscaglia via CnC-List
I called the broker out of curiosity. As I recall there is substantial
delamination of the hull both above and below the waterline in the aft
starboard quarter. He seemed to think it was a $50k minimum repair job on the
hull alone. If you’re ambitious you can probably get her for less...much less
that the offer.

Re: Stus-List Lady Down...

2019-02-26 Thread CHARLES SCHEAFFER via CnC-List
Hi Chuck,
I love the name of your boat, Tenacious.

Anything is repairable, it's just a matter of cost and time. Anything can be
made strong and waterproof too. With today's materials, you can actually make
it stronger and lighter. Think carbon fiber. But will you ever get that repair
money back when you sell?

Why it fell would be telling. Did the yard fail to follow Brunell guidelines
setting the stands? Were the footpads adequately sized for the ground
underneath?

It sounds like the hull skin took the impact and cracked. Not the end of the
world, as fiberglass can be cut out and replaced. The core too. Maybe the
boatyard will feel guilty and jump on fixing your boat proper prior to sailing
season. Timing is important. A proper survey will help your planning. Did the
yard reset the boat up on stands? Is it safe to board her and look under the
vee berth and check all the floor reenforcements? Check the mast step. Check
motor mounts for shear stress.

OTOH, if your insurance is good, you might consider cashing out, and due to a
sluggish used boat market.

BTW, I'm doing a refit myself of my boat. When I asked the yard for a price to
make a few deck repairs, they said, "maybe it's time to walk away from that
boat". They wanted more money to repair the deck than I could get if I sell
her, so I'm doing it myself.

Hi Michael,

Brunell boatstands are what I find in my area. They have several great videos
on Youtube of how to set them up properly. One person can properly set them or
later move them if he follows their guidelines. Check out their video below.

I have a 87 33-2 and at least one of the corner has a gelcoat hairline crack,
nothing serious or structural. I have this kind of hairline at few spots around
the boat. I don't think this is from backstay tension.

Brent,

This boat came up a few months ago. As I recall someone had said the
owner was a bit of a jerk and the boat had had collision damage poorly
repaired. A considerable amount of the port side hull would require
complete core repair.

The collective wisdom was to steer clear.

Re: Stus-List Lady Down...

2019-02-26 Thread Marek Dziedzic via CnC-List
To start with, I am sorry to hear the news. This is awful.

Our Club (Nepean Sailing Club in Ottawa, ON) does not allow any stands - only
foldable cradles.

Probably for several reasons. I imagine that both stands and cradles can do
well, if properly used and set up. However, the cradles need less
preparation/fiddling around during the haul out. We do about 100 boats during
the haul out/launch using a couple of commercial cranes and we are able to take
a boat out of the water and put it in a cradle within about 10 min (7 min on
average during the spring launch). Granted, this is a coordinated effort with
two teams about 20-25 people each. I cannot imagine that this could be done
with individual stands.

Another thought - we put about 400 boats in the yard; they are tightly packed.
The boats at the perimeter all face the prevailing (strong) winds to limit the
windage. Knock on wood, we did not have any boat falling off the cradle even
though we had some decent winds (regularly we get 50+ kt. winds during the
winter). We had a boat falling off the cradle a year and a half ago, but it was
in the fall (most boats were still in the water), but at that time, the wind
was registered around 85-90 kt. (micro burst).

2019-02-26 Thread Christian Planton via CnC-List
My boat is still in the water at Saugatuck Harbor Yacht Club in Westport,
CT. We have a great bubblier system. Dirt cheap in the winter in a well
protected harbor. (It is open to the public to winter there. Half the
members pull their boats/ half don't) During Sandy our club house had two
feet of water but not a single boat that stayed in the water had damage.
Some that took their boats out in a neighboring town where floated of their
stands. Went down there yesterday at 10pm ish. The wind had pushed the
water out of the basin to a level I've never seen it that low. The docks
near shore where in the mud and you could see the bottom of the pilings. I
usually have water under my keel at low tide but last night it was in the
mud. Boat was upright held there by the dock lines. Luckly we have a soft
mud bottom. Lots of wind pushing about 100 or so boats with covers or
shrink wrap on. I saw no damage but a couple of kayaks and boards that were
not tied down well got blown around. Interesting to walk down those docks
with that much wind. They were getting pushed around. I looked like a
drunken sailor. Does anybody know of a yard that actually ties boats on the
hard down?

Hope the damage was minimal!

Re: Stus-List Lady Down...

2019-02-26 Thread Steve Staten via CnC-List
My boat, C'Est La Vie, is in a slip on a marina that is in a drowned ravine on
the reservoir. It has an East/West axis. Last December, a rare easterly storm
threw high winds and waves down the length of it. Many of us had our dock lines
frayed to pieces in the tossing about. A boat just down from me was de-masted
because the stays were a bit loose.
I'm lucky. Only my dock lines were damaged. Now, I have an excuse to replace
all of them.

I would think about scavenging Craigslist for another light 2-stroke. My 15 HP

December. There is no way I would have that engine if I have a soft inflatable
that needed the engine taken on and off more than once a year.

Stus-List 33-2 Transom cracks

2019-02-26 Thread Bradley Lumgair via CnC-List
Our 33-2 has a crack on either side of the cut-out seat area on the transom,
had a look at the other 33-2 here and it's cracked the same. Are there other
C that are cracked here? Has anyone successfully fixed or reinforced these
cracks? Ours has been repaired in the past, unsuccessfully. I think it might be
related to the backstay tension, just my gut feeling. Any thoughts welcome.
