The off-the-shelf rectangular box tanks look like they can only hold 15-20 gallons. From my measurements, maximum dimensions for a rectangular box tank that will fit are 36 x 17.5 x 9.5 inches…so maximum theoretical capacity for a box tank (if you can find one) with these dimensions is 5985 cu inches = 25 gallons. Thanks! I decided to purchase a tool to do it "right," but discovered that the tool won't work because the track space is too small for access. Instead, I used a method from Youtube which worked fine. Installation of the rivnuts was relatively easy and straightforward. I messed one of them up (overtightened and stripped the rivnut), but I removed it easily and replaced it. The holes I drilled for the rivnuts were not perfectly aligned (due to either the original installation or the damage caused by the jibing incident), but there was enough play to install all the new bolts.Project done; everything looks good. I is 39’ for a 30 MK I, and J is 13.5’.According to the owner’s manual the forestay cable is 1/4” and the lower fitting is 1/2” jaw to jaw turnbuckle & toggle. On mine, the cable is swaged into an eye fitting on the lower end, which is pinned to a turnbuckle screw that’s probably 1/2” jaw to jaw (if that’s what’s meant by the owner’s manual). The screw at the other end of the turnbuckle is identical, and is pinned to a toggle that’s pinned to the bow stem. Re: Stus-List problem getting the raw water flowing
Some of the impeller the pin doesn't go through the rubber fins and it slips on the hub. You may wish to swap as a test. This has baffled many people because the impeller looks perfectly fine. Always use a bucket of fresh water on the intake to the raw water pump (new impeller every year) just to make sure things are working. Engine started fine but no water out the exhaust. Impeller was turning when I cranked the engine so thought the problem might be downstream of that. A mechanic at the yard reported back that things were fine and he just had to run the engine at a high RPM to get the raw water flowing. Anyone else experience that? Does it suggest that the tubes where the raw water cools the engine water could be getting clogged? Advice appreciated. Re: Stus-List hydraulic backstay
Dan, I think Graham had his done locally here in Halifax. If he doesn't respond to the list you might try Thursday night's at compass distillers. He has a jazz night there and I believe usually attends. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone. Re: Stus-List Hard bimini?
After building a fiberglass instrument pod for over my companionway I would consider 5k cheap. Probably took me 20 hours to get the shape right for the mould and then about 30 or 40 hours for layup, sanding fairing and painting. Gelcoat would have been more. I spent about $200 on glass and resin. So multiply that by 10 for sure and would be 2k. Without feeding the kids. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone. I got a quote for over 5000 for a hard Bimini smaller than yours! A dock neighbor had one made from starboard. Looked pretty nice. I think I paid about $3500. He worked with me extensively to get the height and window angles maximized for functionality and ergonomics. I'm a little mixed on the asthetics though. It's hard to maintain an attractive look with enough height and length while also keeping the usability of the side tracks. I don't use them but didn't want to obstruct them. In retrospect it may have been a better choice to just give them up. They quoted me $649 for a 6' x 9' top using my existing stainless frame. Shipping was about $150 on top of that. This seems pretty reasonable, but I'd like your thoughts.
