Just as a final point of clarification, I just emailed Barry Carroll who
tells me that no 44s were built in Rhode Island. Just Landfalls, including
the Landfall 48. Barry ran that plant before establishing his own Carroll
Marine.

Thanks Don,
For some reason the broker told me not to do that now as he has to do that
anyway when he sells the boat, however if doing this now will prove the
boat was built in the US it will save me some money on import fees when I
go to sell.

Dan,

Since your boat was once registered in the US as /Rainbow /with a USCG
registration number of 1024202 on Dec 1994 and a HIN of ZCC44001H586 you
could request an "Abstract of a Title" which should provide record of
all the information submitted to the USCG including the chain of
ownership and whether the boat was subject to the "Jones Act" ie; built
in Canada.

The USCG form (application fee $25.00 USD) can be found at:

https://www.dco.uscg.mil/Our-Organization/Deputy-for-Operations-Policy-and-Capabilities-DCO-D/National-Vessel-Documentation-Center/

Since the the USCG documentation expired Dec. 2001, it may take some
time before you get an answer.

When I received the "Abstract of a Title" for my boat, the very first
line was "This vessel was built at ..."

The Landfall 42 was project 76-1 so it wouldn’t be built till mid or late 76

Now what I’ve wondered is how much the “Jones Act” influenced the decision to

2022-07-06 Thread Dan via CnC-List
Thank-you Rob, this explains a lot actually.
My hull is 001 and was made in August 1985 so it could have been made in
either location but it starts with "ZCC" which I'm told means NOTL but
others say that the letters could mean either. Another 44 owner tells me
his aluminum plaque in the cockpit says "Made in the USA" right on it. My
plate does not. It's all fairly enigmatic and uncertain, but I'm pretty
certain that at this point I have to assume my boat was built in NOTL.

Thanks everyone for all of the help!

The aluminum plate in the cockpit of my 44 shows it was built in Rhode Island.
It is the 7th one built.
The HIN was removed when painted.

Dan,

Your boat was registered in the US as /Rainbow /with a USCG registration
number of  1024202. on Dec 1994 thru Dec 2001.

Interesting that there is another C 44 that has HIN that indicates it
is also Hull #1 (HIN ZCC44001D485)./  Indigo/, a Canadian vessel was in

Stus-List Re: C owners need information

2022-06-25 Thread Rick Brass via CnC-List
As Don suggests, and as Ron indicated, the 38 mkll and 38 Landfall can be
confusing.

Imzadi is a 1976 38 mkll, with a ZCC builder code, but also indicates as being
built by CYC Yachts in NOTL. I have the builders file on her, and it contains a
copy of a shipping document showing the (incomplete?) boat being shipped from
Rhode Island into Canada, plus a shipping document showing the completed vessel
going from NOTL to the original dealer in Gross Point, MI. IIRC there is also a
customs document showing a sizeable US content for the boat.

My presumption has always been that some of the hulls were made in Rhode Island
but final assembly and fitting out was done in Canada. If the LF38 was done in
RI, and since the hull form for the MKll and LF are pretty much the same, and
C seems to have built something like 90 mk2s in 1976 which might have pressed
the capacity of the NOTL operation, my presumption sounds like it might be
logical.

Anyway, there is a search where you can put vessel name, HIN, or documentation
number into your PC and get a brief report of information if the boat has been
documented. The link is Free Vessel Documentation Search Lookup |
MarineTitle.com
<https://www.marinetitle.com/vessel-documentation/database-search-lookup.aspx> .

Imzadi is documented, and is shows her a being built by NOTL. Which is why I
can’t use her as a 6 pack vessel here in the US.

BTW, just to add to the confusion, the paperwork on my 25 mk1 says she came
from RI, but she has a CCY builder code. Go figure
