[Cooker] [Bug 781] [drakxtools] Network doesn't come up - eth0 can't load

2003-02-22 Thread jlp
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=781

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-02-22 13:25 ---
I just installed RC1 and there are still problems. It appears that eth0 loads
fine (except that it doesn't work in 100mbit mode in which it should). I can
ping servers on the internet by using IP addresses but I can't ping if I use
names like www.nasa.gov. It looks like the settings for DMS servers are not
fetched when DHCP is getting the info for network.

I installed Manrake 9.1 beta 1 and during installation I selected to configure
network. It detected my card (3Com 3C905B) and I selected to use DHCP to
configure IP address. But after I restarted the computer I got an error that
eth0 was unable to start. It suggested to check cable. I have Windows XP pro on
the same machine and it is also set to use DHCP and to automatically negotitate
mode and speed. My network card is connected to LevelOne FBR-1403TX router and
in Windows XP Pro the NIC is correctly set to full duplex mode and 100 mbit
speed. All works fine in Windows. So I think there is nothing wrong with cabling
or something. It looks like Mandrake Connection wizzard doesn't set the network
card up correctly. I also tried to configure the network after the installation
from Mandrake Control Center and eth0 still can't start up. I searched all
around to find the place where I could manualy set duplex mode and line speed or
enable auto negotiation but I was unable to find this.

There it said Remote CUPS for printer. When I clicked that to manually configure

I used english installation and when I click on Documentation link it takes me to
/usr/share/doc/mandrake/en/Starter.html which is a directory. It should open
/usr/share/doc/mandrake/en/Starter.html/index.html instead which is the actual
document.

That's probably because this is an en-US installation.

deleting the entire profile directory and see if this helps.

I've also seen this one one system with Teac CD-W540E IDE CD-RW and an IDE Pioneer

While adding, removing, or updating sources in the software updater, the CD-ROM
drive is frequently checked. If the CD-ROM is empty and supermount is enabled,
the CD is tested and takes approximately 1-2 minutes to be recognized as empty
before the software manager continues. This can be observed on the CD drive
from the light. When this situation occurs, the Software Manager appears to the
user to have locked up and becomes unresponsive.

The temporary workaround is to have a CD (any CD, including an audio CD, which
is what I do) in the drive. The seek on the drive will drp to 1-2 seconds and
the software manager will appear to work.

I'm not sure where the specific problem lies, but I think it may have to do with
the fact that when adding or removing sources (urmpi), all of the currently
defined sources appear to be checked. In reality, adding or removing should not
check everything else, simply add or remove.

I have two software sources set (in addition to 3 CDs). One is for Cooker and
one for a directory of RPMs on local machine. I then download some RPMs from ftp
to loacal RPM directory and update software sources so that urpmi knows about
the RPMs. If I then go and try to instal some RPM that is both on FTP and in
local RPM repository, urpmi just starts downloading the package from FTP instead
of using exactly the same RPM that is allready on my machine. Urpmi should first
use local sources, then removable sources like CDROMs and remote/network sources
the last if the same RPM is available on all of them.

I have Hercules Game Theater XP (using ALSA snd-cs46xx module) and KMix also
doesn't work here. It also has all channels (like Master, PCM...) dupliated. I
have kernel 2.4.21.0.13mdk-1-1mdk and kdemultimedia 3.1-10mdk installed.

Running aumix you see that all controls are at 0. Setting the aumix controls to 70%

After the cooker update Friday evening, my working sound system didn't produce any
sound. It
changed my sound card driver, and KMix showed a crossed out speaker symbol in the
system
tray.

I think 2987 relates to this error, as it describes the behavior of KMix.

1. Add

2. Add

3. Restart XFree86

And it looks like 3D is working now :). I think this entries should be added by

Yup network works almost fine now. It loads just fine so this bug is fixed but
it still doesn't work in 100mbit mode. Is there an option where I could force it
to work in 100mbit or to force autonegotiation with router? In Windows XP on the
same machine I have set to autonegotiate line speed and it works on 100mbit just
fine.

I searched all
around to find the place where I could manualy set duplex mode and line speed or
enable auto negotiation but I was unable to find this.

several dialog asking me to insert Installation CD and when I inserted it
Mandrake rejected it. So I just canceled all the dialogs and it appears that
there was nothing to be installed as after I configured my printer manuylly
printing worked just fine. So in addition of printer not being detected there
are several useless dialogs that shouldn't show.

I think this dialog could use some improvement. Mainly I am thinking about
reordering the information. On detailed version they should be in this order:

Installing package: name of package
Description of package being installed
Progresbar for package being installed

Overall progress: current package/all packages
Progresbar for overall installation
Time remaining: time remaining

In no details version only the second part for overall progress should be
displayed and above it there should be Mandrake images like now.

When in details mode where there are no add images there is some large empty
area at the top of dialog and that should also be fixed/removed.

I think it has something to do with libification. I see a lot of RPMs lately
that have libification in the changelog and if you try to install them then some
packages get broken/uninstalled because of missing files. I guess we will have
to wait for updates to those packages too to be in sync with libificized packages.

  Platform: PC
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED

 Component: Installation

During installation of Mandrake 9.2 Beta 1 my printer was automatically detected
(EPSON Stylus Color 900). I just wanted to check if all is set up correctly so I
first changed the name of the printer and its description. Then I tried to go
Printer options but when I click Do it nothing happens. I then tried again after
installation was complete from MCC and there it worked fine. It just didn't work
during installation.

Currently all packages on Cooker give you error message dialog saying:

The following packages had bad signatures:
long list of packages

The problem is that if you try to install a very long list of packages this
dialog is very very high and extends of the screen even with large resolutions.
It would be better if the dialog would be limited to only some percentage of the
desktop height and have vertical scrollbar. Another option would be that the
dialog only lists how many packages had bad signatures if the number of them is
higher then 5 for example. And then there would be a button on the right labeled
Details... which would open another dialog with a list of all packages with
bad signatures.

When I checked /etc/lilo.conf I could see that the Floppy boot option was set
like this:

other=/dev/hda1

/dev/hda1 is first partition on my harddrive and it is of type swap:

/dev/hda1 swap swap defaults 0 0

So other should be set to /dev/fd0 which is the floppy.

change the names of some boot options and nothing else.

browse it from there. But if I try to start it from another KDE app using Help

created for News which I didn't even enter. The news server field was empty and
other info was used from mail account (like login). There was no mail account
created and I entered all the information into DrakFW.

What should ahppen is that if you don't enter any server for news the news
account shouldn't even be created. And the entered mail information should be
used to create a Mai account.

OK it looks like it is not dependant on any file. I tried some different strings
and it only seems to be crashing if the string is not found/displayed in results
after certain time of searching.

This is most apparent due to the current signature conflict in all cooker packages.

If many packages have bad signatures, the popup which displays them and asks if
you want to continue has its yes/no buttons pushed off of the bottom of the
screen. The popup window itself cannot be resized, so you can't get to them.

The package list should be shown in a scrollable textarea to avoid this problem.

[Cooker] [Bug 4694] [drakxtools] New: Numeric comma/Del key doesn't work correctly for Slovenian keyboard layout

2003-08-12 Thread [jlp]

 Component: keyboardrake
Summary: Numeric comma/Del key doesn't work correctly for
Slovenian keyboard layout
   Product: drakxtools
   Version: 9.2-0.28mdk
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: All

  Severity: normal
  Priority: P2

ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Slovenian keyboards have comma/Del key on numerical part of the keyboard (to the
right of 0/Ins). It works just fine in most of the programs in KDE and X but it
doesn't work in some. For example in any GNOME app it doesn't enter any
character and in Mozilla it enters | (the same as Alt Gr + W). It should
offcourse enter comma character: ,.

I have KDE (3.1.3-13) set to save my current session on logoff. I leave GKrellM
(2.1.15-2) runing on logout but it isn't restored when I login the next time. It
looks like it isn't saved into current session during logoff.

[Cooker] [Bug 4689] [gnome-control-center] Mouse Preferences - Double Click Timeout settings doesn't work

2003-08-14 Thread [jlp]
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4689

Yup the slider work again, thanks. But when you open the dialog now the label
doesn't show the current setting. Instead of for example 0,6 seconds it at
first displays only seconds. The label is back to normal after you click the
slider.

Well I checked with GConf Editor the setting
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/mouse/double_click and it is set to 0 after I use the
gnome-mouse-properties. If I set it to 600 here then the timeout is shown as 0|6
seconds. But as soon as I move the slider it is set back to 0.

The bug is still here in 1.4-2. If I install Mozilla from its home page the
shortcuts work fine. But then fonts are very ugly.

I think it may be some problem with certain files. I'll try to find out which
files cause KFind to crash and when I get the file (if this is the reason) I
will attach it here and then you can amybe try searching by content in a folder
with this file. OK let's get hunting for the file.

I've run the above commands but it doesn't help. I still get the same error. And
now I get additional error when opening gnome-mouse-properties:

An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for
gnome-settings-daemon. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly.

If I click details I get:

Type mismatch:
 Expected `string' got `int' for key /desktop/gnome/peripherals/mouse/cursor_theme
