[Cooker] [Bug 781] [drakxtools] Network doesn't come up - eth0 can't load
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=781 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-02-22 13:25 --- I just installed RC1 and there are still problems. It appears that eth0 loads fine (except that it doesn't work in 100mbit mode in which it should). I can ping servers on the internet by using IP addresses but I can't ping if I use names like www.nasa.gov. It looks like the settings for DMS servers are not fetched when DHCP is getting the info for network. --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: I installed Manrake 9.1 beta 1 and during installation I selected to configure network. It detected my card (3Com 3C905B) and I selected to use DHCP to configure IP address. But after I restarted the computer I got an error that eth0 was unable to start. It suggested to check cable. I have Windows XP pro on the same machine and it is also set to use DHCP and to automatically negotitate mode and speed. My network card is connected to LevelOne FBR-1403TX router and in Windows XP Pro the NIC is correctly set to full duplex mode and 100 mbit speed. All works fine in Windows. So I think there is nothing wrong with cabling or something. It looks like Mandrake Connection wizzard doesn't set the network card up correctly. I also tried to configure the network after the installation from Mandrake Control Center and eth0 still can't start up. I searched all around to find the place where I could manualy set duplex mode and line speed or enable auto negotiation but I was unable to find this.

If the CD-ROM is empty and supermount is enabled, the CD is tested and takes approximately 1-2 minutes to be recognized as empty before the software manager continues. This can be observed on the CD drive from the light. When this situation occurs, the Software Manager appears to the user to have locked up and becomes unresponsive. The temporary workaround is to have a CD (any CD, including an audio CD, which is what I do) in the drive. The seek on the drive will drp to 1-2 seconds and the software manager will appear to work. I'm not sure where the specific problem lies, but I think it may have to do with the fact that when adding or removing sources (urmpi), all of the currently defined sources appear to be checked. In reality, adding or removing should not check everything else, simply add or remove.
[Cooker] [Bug 3066] [urpmi] New: Prefer RPMs from local sources
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3066 Product: urpmi Component: urpmi Summary: Prefer RPMs from local sources Version: 4.2-30mdk Platform: PC OS/Version: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I have two software sources set (in addition to 3 CDs). One is for Cooker and one for a directory of RPMs on local machine. I then download some RPMs from ftp to loacal RPM directory and update software sources so that urpmi knows about the RPMs. If I then go and try to instal some RPM that is both on FTP and in local RPM repository, urpmi just starts downloading the package from FTP instead of using exactly the same RPM that is allready on my machine. Urpmi should first use local sources, then removable sources like CDROMs and remote/network sources the last if the same RPM is available on all of them. --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Somewhere at the end of installation there was a list of configured hardware (mouse, monitor, ...). There it said Remote CUPS for printer. When I clicked that to manually configure printer I was unable to as I was offered no choice to select printer port, model and such. I had to do that after installation from MCC. When I used MCC I got several dialog asking me to insert Installation CD and when I inserted it Mandrake rejected it. So I just canceled all the dialogs and it appears that there was nothing to be installed as after I configured my printer manuylly printing worked just fine. So in addition of printer not being detected there are several useless dialogs that shouldn't show.
