2003-01-06 Thread bill

C-U,

I have a few questions and I always appreciate the help I receive here. Thanks in advance

Q1,I installed the courier mta to maildrop, on FreeBSD 4.7 and am trying to get the spell-check feature working. I have installed ispell, from the ports, then installed courier-mta from the ports and after typing make ispell was detected by courier by default. make and make install completed with no errors. I logged into localhost webmail and I send out a test email with some typo's. The message sends and is never spell checked.

The only info I find from the Install docs is below and this checks out.
+
Spell checking
The webmail server can use either the ispell or the aspell package for spell checking. Install ispell or aspell before installing Courier.

NOTE: Courier assumes that the spell checking dictionary is called english. Some systems use a different name for the default spell checking dictionary. To change the name of the spell checking dictionary used by the webmail server, put the name of the dictionary into the file /usr/lib/courier/share/sqwebmail/html/en-us/ISPELLDICT.
+

I couldn't find anything when logged into webadmin or in webmail to turn this feature on. What have I missed this time?

There is a button on the Create Message form called Check spelling...

[courier-users] courier-imap-1.6.2 + authmysql + quota from mysql

2003-01-06 Thread Daniel Fenert
Is there a chance to make this set working? I've searched through code and
it seems that after reading quota from db, authmysql only sets MAILDIRQUOTA,
which (it seems to me) is not used anymore :)

Looking through ChangeLog I've found:

2002-06-09 Mr. Sam [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* +++ maildirquota API update +++
+ allows documented way to change the set quota on a maildir
+ major internal cleanup, established a sane API library
External changes:
+ quota no longer set by deliverquota or MAILDIRQUOTA, new -q
option to maildirmake. Both deliverquota, maildrop, and
Courier now read the maildirsize no matter what, and observe
 the quota
+ maildirmake and deliverquota now installed by the Courier-IMAP,
 maildrop, and sqwebmail standalone builds.
+ updated README.maildirquota, and man pages to reflect all these
 changes.

And last change to /mysql/ was a few days before and not talking about
quota:

2002-05-26 Ron van den Dungen [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* authlib/authmysqllib.c (do_connect): Fix server connect via
filesystem socket.

Is there newer version of authmysql or some patch?
Or maybe some cvs version which would make me happy?
Or I'll have to write some patch? (n, please no :)

2003-01-06 Thread Adam Retter
Dan,

I use something like what you describe with postfix and the VDA softquota
patch.

Postfix uses the courier quotas and when the quota expires it stops the user
receiving any more email and notifies them and the sender that their quota
has expired.

Thanks

Adam.

[courier-users] couriermlm and authmysql

2003-01-06 Thread Chuck Rodgers
Hi,

I am having a problem with couriermlm and am using a MySQL database for
authentication. I can not get couriermlm to work, the couriermlm commands
to setup the list work but the .courier-foo files are not executed.

I have tried putting the list address in the MySQL db (no Maildir
specified) and it just delivers the email to the $HOME dir instead of
executing the .courier commands. If I take the user out of MySQL I end up
with a 550 Error User not found.

The domain is set up as a locally-hosted domain.

Am I going about this the right way?

Thanks

[courier-users] authentication Q (on Solaris 8)

2003-01-06 Thread Sam Carleton
Hi,

I have compiled and installed courier-imap. I even have
imapd.rc running. Now I figure it is a good time to connect

In my imapd, I have:

Any thoughts on what the problem is? Where might I look for

If you are using ProcMail, one way to Fix the problem is by creating a
Global Procmailrc file in (usually) /etc/procmailrc, and include the line:

DEFAULT=Maildir/

 My INBOX hierarch is:
 /posta/user'name/INBOX

Won't work.

It *MUST* be:

/posta/$USER/Maildir/

and in there will be three subdirectories, named tmp/, new/ and cur/.

Why this is so is left as an exercise. (Hint: what is Maildir, and what
mailbox formats does Courier IMAP support?)

[courier-users] YA alaising question...

2003-01-06 Thread public
Forgive the new guy for the old question, but I yet to find a reasonable
answer in the archives...(This started as trying to install Mailman, btw.)

I have an aliases/system file, which contains the following line:
test: derek
Mail, as it should, is forwarded from [EMAIL PROTECTED] to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Now change the line to:
test: | tee /tmp/tee.txt
or
test: | tee /tmp/tee.txt
or
test: | tee /tmp/tee.txt
per suggestions in other e-mails, and all 3 return:
   [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
550 User unknown.

(I've tried it with other commands other than tee, btw - same result)
makealiases -chk works, and I can see the .xalias in the -dump

I do not have any other alias files, nor am I using virtual domains.
I understand that the 550 User unknown error means my alias is bad, what I
need to understand is WHY it is bad, esp. when I've used other people's
working examples.
Is there some other feature I'm not aware of what prevents aliases from
running programs?

Thanks,

Sam,

Do you have authshadow listed in the authmodulelist variable of authdaemonrc?
Did you start authdaemon?

If you don't want to run authdaemon, you can just try specifying authshadow directly
in imapd's AUTHMODULES variable.

[courier-users] IMAP using palm treo and iambic mail

2003-01-06 Thread Scott
I got a new toy, a Handspring Treo 300. There are a few email clients
available which claim to be able to connect to IMAP servers. So far the
only one that has even come close to working is Iambic Mail. I can
connect to a qmail imap server, but not my Courier IMAP server. Here is
the error while connecting in /var/log/maillog:

Jan  6 14:28:24 www imapd: Connection, ip=[:::68.24.127.183]
Jan  6 14:28:24 www imapd: Connection, ip=[:::68.24.127.183]
Jan 6 14:28:30 www imapd: LOGIN FAILED, ip=[:::68.24.127.183]
Jan  6 14:28:31 www imapd: DISCONNECTED, ip=[:::68.24.127.183],
headers=0, body=0

The user name and password are definately correct. The error displayed
by Iambic Mail is:

After failing the IMAP recieve session, the Connection Status box
displays:

Halted

An error has occurred:
! OK UID FETCH completed

When connecting to get email it displays a few progress windows:
connecting, login, fetching headers, downloading headers. It crashes
after that.

There is another product called VersaMail (aka MultiMail) which
supposedly works flawlessly, but there is no demo for me to verify this
before I shell out my hard earned money.

As always, I can provide more info if needed, though there isn't much in
this case.

RE: [courier-users] Re: spell check / purge / mailfilters

2003-01-06 Thread Bill Michell
Well, I don't know the answer to 3) and I see you've got 2) sorted already.

I can make suggestions with 1) but sadly not more than that.

1) Did you re-run configure after changing the setup of your system? In
order to re-configure successfully, you need to erase all the config.cache
files from the source tree. There is a make command to do this - something
like make distclean or something similar...
2) Did you rerun make and make install and make install-configure
after configure?
3) Did you remember to copy the newly recompiled webmail binary to the
cgi-bin directory of your mailserver?
4) Is there anything from the output of any of the commands run that
confirms that ispell was found, and compiled correctly into the binary? Or
any error reports?

   Spell checking
The webmail server can use either the ispell or the
 aspell package for
spell checking. Install ispell or aspell before installing Courier.

NOTE: Courier assumes that the spell checking dictionary is called
english. Some systems use a different name for the default

Uhh, good point. Don't know why I said that. I just checked and the
server I WAS able to connect to is in fact a courier mail server
(mail.speakeasy.net). (Nice to see my favorite ISP using Courier.)
Nevertheless I can connect to speakeasy's Courier IMAP server, but not
my own. Now that that little bit of confusion is out of the way, are
there any know tricks or settings that would allow me to make my server
work with my TREO as it does with mail.speakeasy.net's server?

Failure to detect ispell/aspell is not reported as an error. The

2003-01-06 Thread Jason
Bill,

Thanks again! It is working.

It was number 3)

I didn't cp -p /usr/local/libexec/courier/webmail/webmail
/usr/local/www/cgi-bin/webmail

I was using an old webmail binary, that was configured without ispell or
aspell

I didn't think this was necessary, because I had noticed webadmin adjusted
itself, when I re-installed without LDAP and webmail was working when I
reinstalled with Expect, for password changing, and GNUPG

I am always amazed when I get help to my questions, thanks,

I hate always taking answers, but I am addicted, one more

IMAP server does NOT handle traditional mailbox files (/var/spool/mail,

Two separate IMAP servers?
