HENRY STEVENS FROM ZIMBABWE

BUSINESS PROPOSAL

You may be surprised to receive this letter from me since you don't know me personally. I am Mr. Henry Stevens, the son of Mr. Dennis Stevens who was recently murdered in the land dispute in Zimbabwe.

I decided to solicit for your assistance. My late father was among the few black Zimbabwean rich farmers murdered in cold blood by the agents of the ruling government of president Robert Mugabe for his alleged support and sympathy for the Zimbabwean opposition party controlled by the white minority. Before his death and in the past, I had always accompany him in most of his travels. But last year, he had taken me to Amsterdam, The Netherlands to deposit the sum of US$ 11.5 Million( Eleven Million, Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars) with a Security and Finance Company as if he Foresaw the looming danger in Zimbabwe.

The money was deposited in a metal box and declared as a personal effects and gemstones. This money was given to my father by President Roberts Mugabe himself for offshore investment when they were in good terms.

The dispute between my father and the President arose when the President introduced a new land reform-act, which adversely affected the rich white farmers and some black farmers as well. My father was vehemently opposed to the modus operandisadopted by the government and publicly oppose it. This brought him in direct conflict with the president. To achieve his purpose, the president used war veterans to plunder, loot and occupy all farms belonging to the white farmers and their black sympathizers.
More than Fifty Farmers has lost their lives so far. Heads of governments from the west, especially Britain and United States of America have voiced there
condemnation of Mugabe's plan.

It is against this background that I and my family, after much consultation and advice had decided to transfer my Father's money into a foreign account.
As the eldest Son of my Father, I am saddled with the responsibility Of seeking a genuine foreign account where this money Could be transferred without the
knowledge of my Government who are tactically freezing our family Wealth.
I am faced with the dilemma of investing this money. More so, the Dutch Foreign Exchange policy does not allow such investment hence I am seeking for an asylum.

I want to entrust my Future and that of my family into your hands, by helping us in getting the fund from the security company. I must Let you know that this transaction is 100% risk Free and the nature of your business does not necessarily matter. For your assistance, we are offering You 20% of the total sum, 70% for me and my family While 10% will be mapped out for any expenses we may incur during this transaction. We wish to invest our Money on any lucrative business venture of your choice based on your advice. Finally, we will demand an assurance that you will not sit on this money when it finally gets to your personal or company's account in your country.

If this proposal is acceptable by you, please confirm your interest via the above telephone, or you reply through email.

Henry Stevens

Muhammad's Kiss.

2003-03-23 Thread professor rat

Sky news is reporting terrorists just attacked
the remainder of the 101st Airborne still in Kuwait and
wounded ten. The two suspects used the same grenade in the
tent technique as D.C. sniper John
Muhammad used during the last Gulf War in 1991:
The story, according to Berentson and at least two other
former members of the 84th [Engineer Company], was that Muhammad threw a
thermite grenade into a tent housing 16 of his fellow soldiers [encamped
on the Iraq border].
Thermite grenades - made of finely granulated aluminum mixed with a metal
oxide, and blasting heat up to 1,200 degrees - are used to destroy
equipment during battle. The attack could easily have killed or maimed,
but all 16 in the tent, some coughing and choking, escaped
unharmed.
Today's terrorists probably used normal frag grenades though. Due to the
tight security it looks like it's probably an inside job. Not necessarily
another traitorous John Muhammed.

On April 5th is an important day for anarchist across the world to

That is
 why
 Operation Dark Angel is underway.

For the next couple of weeks, look out for flagpoles and if pulling

Unstring

the

Rumsfeld Captures Port City.AMAZING!

2003-03-23 Thread professor rat
A heavy firefight broke out between US Marines and Iraqi forces dug in at
the southern Iraqi town of Umm Qasr today, one day after US officials said
they had won control of the strategic port.
Reuters correspondent Adrian Croft said the Marines opened up with heavy
bursts of machine-gun fire in an area where US forces had set up a
headquarters in the town, which is Iraq's only deep-water port.
A US commander at the scene, quoting a captured Iraqi officer, said dozens
of Republican Guards were holding out for port workers in the sandy
residential area, which is laced with electricity pylons, cranes and low
sandy-coloured buildings.
There's a serious firefight going on here now, Croft said.
There are at least two Iraqi positions about 1 kilometre south of the new
port.
The Marines called in two M-1 Abrams tanks which fired at least four times
on a building from which gunfire had been directed at their forces.
One direct hit inflicted heavy damage on the three-storey building in a
compound where the Iraqi flag was still flying.
The tanks also used heavy machineguns to rake several buildings and a line
of trees where Iraqi forces were believed to be dug in.
Captain Rick Crevier, commander of Fox Company of the 2nd Battalion 1st US
Marine Regiment, said a captured Iraqi officer had told them that 120
Republican guards were dug in.
Captain Crevier also said tanks were being directed to another area.
We've got (Iraqi) dug-in troops in that vicinity, he added.
Live television showed US troops lying on their bellies about 300 metres
from the building under attack. Black smoke billowed from the target area
and one tank could be seen advancing slowly towards the building.
Earlier, Arabic television al Jazeera's correspondent in Umm Qasr said
Iraqis appeared to be staging a counter attack in the port city.
The battle came one day after US military officials reporting seizing
control of Umm Qasr, despite pockets of resistance in residential areas of
the town.
The Marines said yesterday that US and British forces had taken between 400
and 450 Iraqi prisoners in fighting around the town, and in the nearby Faw
peninsula, which controls access from the Gulf to Iraq's tiny coast.
US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said in Washington on Friday that US
and British forces had already captured Umm Qasr.

It's great that it's coming out that small crowds can create massive
disturbances. Now we have to do something with this knowledge (not that
blocking traffic isn't doing anything, of course)
I must say though, I do have questions about traffic disturbances such as
the ones in the pictures above. I realize and respect that it's supposed
to stop business as usual, but isn't some business, such as those done by
firemen/women and paramedics, too important? I know that protesters will
get out of the way for ambulances and stuff, but what about those stuck
in traffic (caused by, but not seen by the people causing the
disturbance) far away? Is it an ends justify the means type of thing?
Just curious.

The Angry Brigade.

2003-03-23 Thread professor rat
This review of Tom Vague's book on The Angry Brigade was first published in
'Trangsgressions: A Journal of Urban Exploration' (Spring 1998). It is
interesting not only as the only written account of The Angry Brigade by
one of those involved, but in is criticism of a glamourisation of the
struggles of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The Angry Brigade - John Barker
A review of 'Anarchy in the UK: The Angry Brigade' by Tom Vague, published
by AK Press Edinburgh in its English Psychogeographic Series, 1997

It's a grisly business being given a book about your own past: there's this
vaguely iconic photo of one's younger self and the feeling that you're
trapped in a sheaf of yellowing news clippings or, as in this book, some
imagined golden age of the years of 68, an age of enviable commitment, mass
struggles and unlimited horizons. Personally I've found it painful thinking
about this past, doing it for the first time in a very long time. I don't
regret what I did, as I said to the only person who ever asked me, a screw
soon after my conviction, but the 'me' of then seems very distant and,
though I respect what I did, I have felt critical and not wholly
sympathetic. Some of the rhetoric and righteousness of AB communiqués now
makes me cringe. Unfortunately it's exactly the most over-the-top rhetoric
this book is keen on. Other things I was involved in writing, like the
'Daily Grind' supplement of 'International Times' or 'Strike' newspaper,
stand up much better.

In 1971-2 I was convicted in the Angry Brigade trial and spent 7 years in jail.

We do not allow this nefarious warfare

2003-03-23 Thread professor rat
Main Itch.
  Statement of Impeachment
WE IMPEACH THE U.S. EMBASSY FOR REJECTING OUR WRITTEN STATEMENTS OF
ANTI-WAR, AND JAPANESE GOVERNMENT AND TOKYO METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT
FOR UNLAWFULLY ARRESTING OUR COMRADES TO ADVOCATE THE WAR BY THE UNITED
STATES.

On March 20, 2003, United States launched attacks on Iraq.

Before the attack started, each of us has raised loud voices against war
for the United States to demand not to start the war. At 8:00 pm on the
very day the war broke out, each of us brought one's own written statement
of his/her view to U.S. Embassy. We wanted to meet and demand to stop the
war to the ambassador.

However, when we got to the Embassy, we were so surprised. In a few hundred
meters in front of the Embassy, Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department
arranged a massive amount of police officers and special kind of police
cars which laid in the way and blocked people. We asked the reason to
police officers why they blocked the street, but we got no reply. When we
started going forward, police officers started being abusive to us, and
locked our arms in a full nelson or pushed shield onto us without
explanation. Moreover four of us were took away, confined in a special
police car, and taken into custody.

Although we have asked to the police their release and where they are, we
have gotten no reply yet.

We would like to ask you all. Doesn't a person who is against the war be
allowed to express the statement of his/her own view? Can a person who is
against war be taken away without a single question asked? While Japanese
government has talked about *anti-terrorist warfare,* isn't it a terrorism
that police officers took citizens away unilaterally?

We do not allow this nefarious warfare and collaboration on it.

We would like to ask many people to express solidarity with us. We demand
the release of our four comrades and the truth of this outrage.

Shrub is going to have more troubles than a monkee on Iraq.

2003-03-23 Thread professor rat

NEW YORK - Nearly 200,000 anti-war demonstrators took to the
streets of Manhattan on Saturday, protesting the U.S.-led invasion of
Iraq even as bombs rained down on Baghdad again.
Smaller demonstrations took place in dozens of cities nationwide, from
thousands marching in San Francisco to several hundred protesters snaking
through downtown Washington, chanting, ``No blood for oil!''
In New York, the turnout for a march that was 20 abreast and 40 blocks
long surprised some parade organizers. They had worried that the
round-the-clock bombing and videotape of U.S. tanks racing across the
Iraqi desert might cause some anti-war Americans to despair. Instead,
unofficial police estimates of the crowd size grew steadily through the
day, and marchers spoke of their determination to be heard a final
time.
``It's too late to stop the war, but it's important to register that this
is an unpopular war,'' said Joe Fitzgerald, 45, a musician who marched
past Manhattan's tree-lined Union Square with his child and his wife,
Deane Beebe. ``Our government's reasoning is so nakedly cynical -- one
day it's because of Al-Qaida, then weapons of mass destruction, then to
establish a military presence.
``The pretext for this invasion changes ever day.''
Some celebrities joined in, including actors Roy Scheider, Ossie Davis
and Ruby Dee, and singer Patti Smith.
``We support the troops, but we do not support the president,'' said Rep.
Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., a Korean War veteran.
About 2,000 police officers were assigned to the rally, including
undercover officers with beeper-sized radiation detectors and other
counterterrorism measures.
Police, protesters scuffle
After the permit for the march expired at 4 p.m., several hundred
protesters refused officers' orders to clear the area, and some scuffled
with police. Hundreds of officers in riot gear and officers on horseback
pulled one protester after another out of the crowd and placed them in a
police truck.
Police said 74 people were arrested. Protesters said police used pepper
spray, and police said 14 officers were getting medical treatment after
being sprayed with an unknown substance.
D.C. demonstrators defy police
In Washington, demonstrators descended on the White House and
Northwest Washington neighborhoods in an improvised day of protests
marked by sometimes-tense standoffs with police at Lafayette Square and
near Logan Circle.
Unlike anti-war marches in Washington in recent weeks, in which
organizers have largely worked with authorities to map out routes,
Saturday's demonstrations at times took place in defiance of a heavy
federal and local police presence.
Shortly after noon at 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, marchers
brushed aside barricades to enter Lafayette Square across from the White
House, which was closed to demonstrations larger than 25 after the Sept.
11 terror attacks. Later, as hundreds of marchers left the square to head
up 14th Street, the chanting protesters circled back and ducked into
alleys near Logan Circle to escape a police escort.

In Hollywood, war protesters marched down Sunset Boulevard,
complaining that news coverage is slanted. One sign showed a photo of an

ARMs for IRAN!

What now? The deepest and most profound understanding of the U.S. war is
found in the tens of millions in the streets, not in the perfidious halls
of an impotent United Nations. The international networks emerging are
creating a new 'united nations' from below - without appeasers,
accomplices and diplomats who talk the peace of the graveyard. The
hundreds of millions around the world are turning to their own leaders:
trade union activists, pacifists, progressive religious leaders,
community and barrio leaders - ordinary citizens.
Some countries are drawing the lesson that a military weakness only
encourages U.S. aggression. Iran, according to Israel's representatives
in the White House, Wolfowitz, Feith and Perle, is the next target for
preventive war. Let us hope that Iran and the rest of the
world will learn the lesson of Iraq and the failure of the UN:
international solidarity and military deterrence can raise the cost of
war beyond the calculations of the Washington war mongers.

TV SHOCKER DEMOLISHES CASE FOR WAR
WE WILL all remember where we were when we saw Shock and Awe start.
And we will all remember how we felt: shocked and awful.
The live TV footage of the bombardment of Baghdad last night was sickening
to watch and to hear.
For those who are opposed to this war, it was hideous confirmation of our
worst fears.
And for those who support it, there must have been terrible misgivings
about what they were witnessing.
The bombardment was relentless, enormous, devastating.
But what will have horrified Tony Blair is the fact that it was all
captured on video - exposing the brutal reality of his political decision
to back this unjustified war.
Thus exposing the brutal reality of his political decision to back this
unjustified war.
The Prime Minister must surely realise how horrendous it looked to the
watching world.
This is his worst nightmare - people will not be in awe of what they saw,
they will be utterly appalled.
With their own eyes, beamed directly into their homes, they saw cities
being destroyed, and knew that many innocent civilians were inevitably
being hurt or killed.
For those who already hate America and its allies, including Britain, it
was just the kind of advert they've been waiting for to justify more outrages.
Perversely, a war supposed to be about removing weapons of mass destruction
became an onslaught against the alleged culprit deploying equally
destructive firepower.
In Washington, George Bush and his right-wing administration would have
watched with pride and satisfaction at the awesome military display.
In London, Tony Blair and his Cabinet must have watched in mounting
desperation - knowing how damaging it would be to their argument that this
war is designed to help the Iraqi people and peace in the Middle East.
What we saw last night was the world's only superpower flexing its muscles
in a way that will send shock-waves throughout the globe.
Some will feel cowed by the pictures. Many will have felt sad. Many more
angry and resentful.

And others will simply resolve to exact terrible revenge.

How many more terrorists were created last night? In our name, by a Prime
Minister acting without the support of his people or the United Nations

Paypal on pron a pose?

2003-03-23 Thread professor rat
Paypal's stance on adult websites is causing a bit of confusion in the
community. Many play parties and events in the area offer Paypal as a means
of payment. As it stands so far though, I haven't seen one group announce
having a problem. This may stem from the fact that anyone can set up a
Paypal account with an individual or vanilla company address. In the long
run, this new anti-adult policy can only hurt Paypal. It's one thing if
Paypal's doing this to deal with chargebacks and fraud, but they're
throwing away a large portion of legitimate paying customers (like me).

On Sun, 23 Mar 2003, Steve Schear wrote:

Unless MTAs can reject mail for lack of postage, this approach will not
fix a large majority of the problems of spam. Unless clearing is built
into the protocol, sender pays is a non-starter.

I agree that there are lots of good reasons for sender-pays to be built
into the MTA, but for users on broadband connections (like myself) I don't
really care that the amount of email bandwidth may increase a bit if I
don't see the spam. In the U.S. this amount to about 15% of the user
base. Not a bad initial tareget.

This seems to be the root of the disconnect. We're trying to solve
different problems.

I'm enjoying a mostly spam free mailbox right now, thanks to various
procmail rules and spamassassin. I'm extremely annoyed that I'm spending
real money for spammers to send me traffic that I'm going to toss. It
may be a difference in outlook, I'm running a business that requires
connectivity.

What I was attempting to point out is that adding wealth transfer is not
 adding any value over request-to-transmit.

Sure it does once the stamps have real value and I get to keep them if I
 don't like the message.

If your goal is to stop spam, keeping a penny after allowing transit is not
significantly different than any other method of allowing transit.

Plug-ins for both Outlook and Eudora plug-in would go a long way toward a
solution. M$ and IBM are both looking into real value stamps as a solution.

Yes. Involving central servers to collect postage, at least in one case.
Which is precisely the scenario I have a big problem with, cf.
atrificial scarcity. (I have no idea what IBM is up to. Maybe they're
more reasonable, but I doubt it.)

Requiring a Passport(tm) account to telnet to port 25 is not my idea of
good communication technology.

CC aren't a solution. What I want is
 - a Eudora plugin to check for hashcash stamps, send bounce messages, auto
generate my hashcash stamps, and help create and maintain my white list.
 - a web site which offers a hashcash stamp generator applet and simple
 instructions for

Not what I was offering. I'll write you a front end website tool where people
can pay you to accept mail, and a backend filter to verify that you are
only accepting mail from people who have payed you or are whitelisted.
Vendors need to write software for thier own products. If you are
unwilling to run the software, I can't help that.

(Never mind the fact that generating stamps would become a sales
oppurtunity in that world. Machines are cheap - why wouldn't someone sell
cycles to the same folks that bug you during dinner? Sure, 419 and
Make.Viagra.Faster might go away, only to be replaced by legitimate
MCI and loan-against-your-home spam.)

Procmail and a CGI would allow this.

 I don't run a mail server.

As I said, we appear to be attacking different problems. Procmail does
not require a mail server, and our theoretical commerce-for-mail tool is
web based. If you don't like procmail, there are many other incoming
filters you can use until a protocol that limits abusive email emerges.

 I'll even
write the code for you, if you'll promise to use it on all of your mail.

Write the above code and I will.

I absolutely will, if we can agree on the problem space.

Let me know what language you prefer.

 Java

 email software for too long.

Help get the Camram code working.

I like some of the features of camram, but it is fundamentally flawed.
(hashcash is neat, but nobody will use it.)

 steve

I think we're reinventing the same goal failure we both saw on ASRG. I'm
going to give this up, unless something interesting happens. I'll still
write you the code, if we can agree on what the goal is. But I'm not
sure this is a worthwhile discussion.

URGENT ASSISTANCE

2003-03-23 Thread MANPENSA DONDO
Dear Friend,
RE: REQUEST FOR URGENT ASSISTANCE IN THE TRANSFER AND SAFEKEEPING FOR INVESTMENT OF
$25.5 MILLION USD

I am Mr.MANPENSA DONDO, a financial intermediary for Mikky Kabila, the first son of
the third wife of the late Congolese President, LAURENT KABILA who was assassinated by
one of his bodyguards.
Mikky's father entrusted into his mother's care certain documents and trunk boxes.
Amongst these documents are deposit bonds certificate and cash sum $25.5 million USD
in the trunk boxes and some other family treasures, this trunk boxes containing the
said cash sum were hidden in a cellar under the presidential mansion.
After the death of LAURENT KABILA, Mikky's elder brother took over as president and he
immediately confiscated all of their father's properties including his bank account
and all other family possessions. Mikky's mother was worse hit as she was driven out
of the family mansion while Mikky himself was declared wanted. Meanwhile Mikky and his
Mother were able to smuggle the boxes of cash out of the cellar in the mansion and
immediately took the boxes overseas for investment. Presently the boxes are kept with
CONTINENTAL SECURITY COMPANY based in Europe. Mikky has taken a temporary refugee
status in one of the West African country awaiting my assistance in sourcing for a
reputable trusted person who will help invest the money into a profitable venture.

I have decided to nominate you for this project as beneficiary to this fund who would
claim this from the security company in Europe on behalf of the family.
Your response to this proposal is urgently needed for immediate action. In your
response, please include your full name, date of birth and contact address, private
tel. and fax phone number, email address for submission to the security firm as the
beneficiary.

Yours Faithfully,
MANPENSA DONDO.

NOTE:
Mikky has directed that you would be entitled to 20% of the said amount for your
effort .
Please keep this information to your self for security reasons.

Federación Anarquista Uruguaya statement on the criminal fascist US war of aggression.

2003-03-23 Thread professor rat
Statement of the Federación Anarquista Uruguaya
MASSACRE IN IRAQ - US Real Capitalism in action.
And so it finally happened. The massacre in Iraq on the part of
the US Empire was an announced horror. It wanted to carry it out
whatever. It was enough, as Chomsky said recently, for there to
be a knife in Iraq. But in the end, not even a knife was
necessary. International organizations, Right, the widespread
opposition of the people, nothing mattered.

Its language is brute force. The hammer of power is its history.
A trail of blood and violation is its business card. A long
chain of infamy marks its interventions, the murders and macabre
games of the CIA. The people of Latin America feel its effects
in their bodies: bullets and hunger.

But this is not the exclusive of the US empire. It is the
everyday product of this system, applied, to be sure, in
 agreement with multiple conditions.

This system of privilege for the few depends on force and
violence alone. It hides its monstrosity under a robe - phantom
institutions, symbols to justify their existence, repressive
mechanisms that assure their control in the name of general
order. Today, its robe has fallen and we can see it clearly for
 what it is.

And the USA is the paradigmatic expression of the system, it is
hegemonic, it is the number one instigator of world neo-liberal
designs that have killed millions of human beings through
hunger. One which kills through misery and missiles.

Do not be mistaken, it is a cold, calculated strategy - the US
empire wants more power; it wants to redraw the world to its
benefit, to discipline bodies for this stage of the system, to
be the first economic power. It also wants total political
protection for transnationals, and it wants the oil. For our
 area it wants the FTAA.

The disgusting cynicism of Bush is cruelly graphic of an
ideology of power. It cares nothing for any values and it
totally scorns the world's intelligence. Not even Orwell could
imagine such self-confidence - the murderous violence and fear
legitimizes everything. A lesson that history gives the lukewarm
and timorous, to those who ask permission to criticize, to those
who still believe that deep within this system there is place
for the poor of the world.

This is a historic moment of brutal violence by those in power.
But there is also one historical constant - the people have
always responded, they have always resisted.

With the people of Iraq in this tragic moment

We totally repudiate the genocide perpetrated by the US empire
 and its lackeys.

Everythings fair game now.

2003-03-23 Thread professor rat
We now have an arsenal of death capable of destroying the world many times
over in the hands of an oligarchy of billionaires that control the media.
The media have a complete monopoly that cannot be seen while any trust in
it remains. And as many of you frustrated know, the majority of people in
this country still have that trust. A finger is kept on the pulse of
America, but only so that they remain within the bounds of rapport. They
avoid lies that are too obvious to avoid destroying that rapport.
Sometimes they miscalculate like they did last April with Venezuela. The
story was so completely shut out of the ordinary media that mere awareness
of it was sometimes enough to shock people out of their trust. You can
almost see the same thing today with Rachael Corrie. They only go that far
out when there is something really dangerous that they need to hide.
They do not worry about losing rapport with those already in the know of
their deceptions like you and I. They do not deviate too far from their
phony spectrum range of NPR to FoxNews, because they don't want to burn
their ultra-right coverage. But they do burn themselves on the left
consistently like the commentators on MSNBC complaining about CBS's
treasonous quarter-segment coverage of the butterflies that some troops
had on the days before it started, referring to it as a gratuitous focusing
on the human-side. Write all the letters that you want, you will not change
their quest to destroy dissent. Their agenda is not set by you, nor will it
ever be. They have had many years of practice. They have lost major rapport
once, and have lost it only to smaller degrees since then, but those days
are obviously over. Anyone who looks honestly at the situation today must
realize futility of changing the system from within.
To the audience that is willing to listen to outside operations like
Indymedia, this is working better that it has ever before! But you have to
wake up to the intensity to which you have been targeted for destruction,
they are adapting to your newfound success, and they have more money than
you. They want to see your opinion destroyed. Their goal is a happy
uncomplaining consumer, and you threaten that. They will not let you have a
voice. The louder you yell, the more
coverage they will give to the voices that oppose you. They will give a
voice to those who ridicule and marginalize you. They will turn all others
against you. They will make it a thought crime to even have your opinion.
If you are even reading this, then all of the values which you likely have:
peace, justice, equality, environmental accountability/responsibility,
corporate accountability/responsibility, media
accountability/responsibility, are targeted for destruction, wherever they
do not suit the interests of the billionaires who control the media.
Think of what this means! This elects officials. This sets policy. This
controls the direction this country moves in. The only difference between
this media monopoly and a dictatorship is that a dictatorship is obvious
about what it truly is. If we are to resign ourselves to having a
government at all, then democracy is the only one that has the
quasi-justification of not being an imposition upon the will of the people.
But, what seemed good in theory turn out to be a miserable failure in
practice. We now have an arsenal of death capable of destroying the world
many times over in the hands of an oligarchy of billionaires that control
the media.
To those who want to argue that Anarchy is not the answer, that police and
military are necessary to protect us from whatever should know that any
solution requiring police or military leads us down the same path.
We are now in the endgame of control. Never before has the media been so
sopisticated in shutting out the voices of dissent. The remaining avenues
of free speech are being systematically shut down by laws written in the
name of patriotism. We have been fortunate to date that they haven't used
the new patriot act laws to charge the traffic slowers with domestic
terrorism for acts that violate criminal laws that are intended to
influence policy. But I'm sure that they will all be rounded up when the
world's not looking. After all, there's still the threat that they could
vote in the next election.
So what's left? That's good enough for me. I am not going to let some
cointel operative con me into being ineffective. Everything's fair game
now. Everything, including their game.

Victory in Defeat: What West does not understand (english)
Al Maquami 10:04am Sun Mar 23 '03
[EMAIL PROTECTED] article#302058
As lies, deception, and duplicity of the immoral invasion of Iraq become
clear the prestige of Saddam and resistance forces of Iraq will gain the
moral superiority.
Colonial conquest of Iraq would be fast, swift and hopefully with less
human sufferings. The British colonization of Mesopotamia in 1917 just took
three days therefore the current illegal invasion accompanied by the most
brutal bombardment in the history of air warfare would not take much
longer. Every hour of extra resistance proves the moral conviction of
defenders and the moral bankruptcy of the aggressor. Eventually, Iraqi army
would be defeated, Saddam would be murdered, and his semi-socialist
dictatorship would be obliterated. Why did Saddam and his comrade decided
to stay and die in the ashes of Baghdad rather than accepting a comfortable
life in exile? They did not want to accept defeat of a progressive Islamic
socialist republic which would have been the model of economic and social
development for the reactionary dictatorship and intellectually bankrupt
regimes that exist in the Muslim world. It is through death that they can
regain their moral superiority.

Obviously, his economic development programs strayed by the clever US
strategists who first swayed him into fight with their recently installed
religious mafias in Iran, who had deviated, and then encourage him to fall
in the Kuwait trap. He believed that a Socialist Islam is the road to
salvaging both. His Statues would fall, his pictures would be set on fire,
his tomb would be unknown, his palaces left in ruins, his comrades bloody
dead bodies dragged in the street, but Saddam would be deified as martyr in
his death. That is how Saddam Hussein defiance would make him victorious.
This wasn't the last utterances of a mad man, trying to rally his troops;
rather, this is the final testament of a man who knows he would become
symbol of resistance against an Evil Empire. The more viciously he is
obliterated, the more he would be remembered as a martyr. After all, that
is how the father of martyrdom in Islam, the great Imam Hussein, fought the
forces of an evil and immoral order, then and murdered, and buried in
Karbella,1300 years ago, just a few miles down the road.

Indeed, the fundamental principle of martyrdom is moral victory in material
defeat. For more than 1 billion Muslims, Saddam Hussein's image is already
changing from a brutal dictator in Iraq to a visionary, who resisted
re-colonization of Iraq, and the last man who dared to stand up against
subjugation and colonization of his people. There is nothing that the
victorious forces, who won by shuck and awe can do about this
transformation. Hussein is gaining more prestige as the coalition of the
coerced gain territories. The higher the flame in Baghdad, the higher would
be the flame of hatred in the heart of the powerless masses of the world to
resist the oppression. The greatest the shuck and horror campaign the
greatest would become the determination of the oppressed, all over the
world. The mortal Saddam Hussein would achieve in his death what he could
never achieved in his life, immortality.

The materialistic logic of Western civilization does not have a clue about
mythology, philosophy and Sufism of an eastern culture. How is it possible
that a defeated, humiliated vilified man would become a hero after his
death? The more the voiceless masses of the world realize that invasion of
Iraq was based on deception, propaganda, treachery, violation of
international law and human rights, the more would be the adulation of
Saddam's image. This counter-culture image of Saddam would be enhanced when
the masses would find out that Hussein did not have weapon's of mass
destruction, did not have and did not use chemical or biological weapons,
did not set his oil well in fire, did not use civilians as shields, and did
not have any connection to terrorists. He was a dictator, so what! How did
Stalin hold many antagonistic ethnic groups together? Did the West
interfere? Indeed the US has installed and supported every dictatorial
Junta in world from Suharto to Pinoche and has subverted every
democratically elected government form Iran to Venezuela.

Now that the US is justifying its flagrant violation of International law
by labeling its brutal invasion in Iraq as war of National Liberation, it
is obliged to provide free food distribution, free Medicare, free
hospitalization, free education, access to clean water, and start cleaning
banned hazardous materials and contaminants like Depleted Uranium which are
killing 50,000 Children and countless adults month. In fact before we open
Disney's Aladdin Land in Baghdad and give them our version of Democracy, we
have to provide them a guaranteed good life under their semi-socialistic
constitution. The

Don't get your hopes up. With air power and seige tanks the Iraqi's don't
have much ammo or food. Just like the US controls Afghanistan, they
will claim they control Iraq. There will be incidents and a few
minor operations to clean out enemy cells, but I don't expect to see any
well organized defense. The US technology is orders of magnitude better,
they can easily destroy large armies.
What they *can't* do is destroy small armies. So the Persians, Talibs and
other muslim groups that have a grudge against the US will bleed them to
death one soldier at a time. With truck bombs and grenades and other
suicide missions. Since this whole thing is about oil, they'll definitly
want to attack oil pipelines.
I don't think the majority of neanderthals in the US fully understand the
mess they've created, nor how they will ever extract themselves from this

refusal by congress to allow full military unleashing. Now, they've
unleashed the military, who will win the war, but never really fully
control anything.
The US now has troops in over 100 countries. That's a lot of targets to

Kill The President
-
In a world without leaders
Who'd start all the wars?
The world that you're saving
Will always be yours
Kill the President
Listen to the voice of reason
Unify with that single line
Stop the man with the power
Of the government
A leader's not the center
Of democracy
In a world without leaders
Who'd make people starve?
The world that we're saving
Will always be ours
Everyone says
Well maybe I'll make a difference
Thinking they've got plenty of time
But you're squeezed
A little tighter everyday
Punished before you can commit a crime
In a world without leaders
Who'd start all the wars?
The world that you're saving
Will always be yours
Kill the President
Listen to the voice of reason
Unify with that single line
Stop the man with the power
Of the goverment
A leader's not the center
Of democracy
America
All of your enemies
Come from within
But you lash out so
It is seen
Like some frightened child
In an angry world
Or the fall of Rome
Your demise comes
From your own hands
In a world without leaders
Who'd start all the wars?
The world that you're saving
Will always be yours
In a world without leaders

Bid to disrupt US spy base

2003-03-23 Thread professor rat
POLICE in body armour were drafted in to stop a small group of activists
who tried to storm the perimeter fence of the US spy base at Menwith Hill,
near Harrogate, during a day of anti-war protests across Britain on Saturday.

The confrontation, with what police described as a tiny minority of the
more than 1,000 protesters who joined the demonstration outside the base,
led to a dozen arrests.
It came after more than two hours of peaceful protest during which
demonstrators launched metal foil kites and balloons in an attempt to
disrupt satellite signals to and from Menwith Hill which they claim has a
key role in the war on Iraq. More than 100 police officers from South,
North and West Yorkshire, Durham and the Humber region were on duty outside
the perimeter fence while inside there was a huge Ministry of Defence
Police presence.
The attempt to breach the fence came during what the organisers described
as a tour of the base – a march along public roads around the 4-mile
perimeter of Menwith Hill to the accompaniment of samba bands.
Earlier, the demonstrators from across the North gathered outside the
base's main gates to hear speeches from anti-war activists.
Organiser Neil Kingsnorth, of Yorkshire CND, said: The satellite data
coming in here will be and is being used to pinpoint targets in Iraq for
bombs and missiles. We are trying to disrupt the planning of bombing in future.
He added: The powerful message to the Government is that the opposition to
this war is not going to lie down simply because the war has started.
North Yorkshire's Deputy Chief Constable Peter Walker said: This has been
an extremely successful police operation. The work of RAF Menwith Hill was
not disrupted, the protesters were able to make their point freely and
safely and all officers involved behaved impeccably as you would expect.
He said the protest organisers had been satisfied with the smooth and
overwhelmingly peaceful running of the event.
The only disappointment has been the behaviour of a tiny minority who
tried to take advantage of the situation. They failed in their efforts to
breach the perimeter and we dealt with them, he added.
Police said about 600 demonstrators had gathered for a good-natured march
through Sheffield city centre on Saturday.
In Leeds, 200 anti-war demonstrators marched through the city centre on the
same day, though they denied that the small scale of the protest indicated
that opposition to the war was dwindling.
Trevor Bavage, of Leeds Stop the War Coalition, said: There's been
protests all over the country and we expect them to increase as people see
what's going on in Iraq.
Several hundred people attended a peaceful demonstration in Bradford's
Centenary Square on Saturday, where Jewish, Christian, Sikh and Muslim

DNA leaders call religion to account
By Roger Highfield in London
March 22 2003

The scientists who launched a revolution with the discovery of the
structure of DNA in Cambridge 50 years ago have used the anniversary to
mount an attack on religion.

When they revealed DNA's double-helix structure in 1953, Francis Crick and
James Watson helped to invent biotechnology, provided the foundation for
understanding the diversity of life on Earth, revealed the mechanism of
inheritance and shed light on diseases such as cancer and even the origins
of anti-social behaviour.

From Copernicus to Charles Darwin, scientific discoveries have had a habit
of offending religious susceptibilities. Most scientists tread warily and
avoid attacking religion, but Dr Watson and Dr Crick are outspoken atheists.

Dr Crick, 86, said recently: The God hypothesis is rather discredited.
Indeed, he says his distaste for religion was one of his prime motives in
the work that led to the sensational 1953 discovery.

I went into science because of these religious reasons, there's no doubt
about that. I asked
myself what were the two things that appear inexplicable and are used to
support religious beliefs: the difference between living and non-living
things, and the phenomenon of consciousness.

Dr Crick argues that since many claims made by specific religions over 2000
years have proved false, the burden of proof should be on the claims they
make today, rather than on atheists to disprove the existence of God.

Archbishop Ussher claimed the world was created in 4004BC. Now we know it
is 4.5billion years old. It's astonishing to me that people continue to
accept religious claims, Dr Crick said. People like myself get along
perfectly well with no religious views.

Dr Watson, 74, said religious explanations were myths from the past.
Every time you understand something, religion becomes less likely, he said.
Only with the discovery of the double helix and the ensuing genetic
revolution have we had grounds for thinking that the powers held
traditionally to be the exclusive property of the gods might one day be ours.

The American effort to read the genetic recipe of a human being, the Human
Genome Project, is led by a devout Christian, Francis Collins, who
succeeded Dr Watson in that post in 1993. Dr Collins complained at a recent
meeting of scientists in California that God was receiving a cold
reception during celebrations of the 50th anniversary.

He is concerned that the anti-religious views of these very distinguished
figures will increase public antipathy to genetics, given that American
polls suggest that 70-80per cent of people believe in a personal God.

The antipathy to religion of the DNA pioneers is long-standing. In 1961
Crick resigned as a fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge, when it
proposed to build a chapel. When Winston Churchill wrote to him, pointing
out that none need enter [the chapel] unless they wish, Dr Crick replied
that on those grounds, the college should build a brothel, and enclosed a
cheque for 10 guineas.

Dr Watson described how he gave up attending Mass at the start of World War
II. I came to the conclusion that the church was just a bunch of fascists
that supported Franco. I stopped going on Sunday mornings and watched the
birds with my father instead.

Oscar winner blasts 'fictitious president' on Iraq war
24.03.2003
Politics grabbed centre stage at the Academy Awards today as maverick
director Michael Moore charged President George W Bush with waging a
fictitious war against Iraq.
Winning the Best Documentary Feature award for his anti-gun film Bowling
for Columbine, Moore appeared on stage backed by other nominees in the
category.
Referring to his colleagues as people who preferred fact to fiction, Moore
described Bush as a fictitious president.
We live in a time with fictitious election results that elect fictitious
presidents, he said. We live in a time when we have a man sending us to
war for fictitious reasons.
Wagging his finger from the stage, to both applause and boos from the
audience, Moore said; We are against this war, Mr Bush. Shame on you as
the music came up and began to drown him out.
Moore won the Oscar for best documentary for Bowling for Columbine, a
provocative film on the roots of gun violence in America, whose title
refers to the Colorado high school where two students massacred 13 people
before killing themselves in 1999.
Moore's outburst shattered the restraint that had marked today's Oscar
ceremony where many celebrities wore discreet peace pins or peace doves on
their gowns and tuxedos but otherwise kept their opinions largely to
themselves.
Moore had given virtually the same speech when he won an Independent Spirit
Award for Bowling for Columbine on Saturday, but then he had been greeted
only with cheers.
Moore, author of the controversial but best-selling Stupid White Men, which
attacks Bush and senior figures in his administration, told reporters
backstage at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre: I'm an American and you don't
leave your citizenship when you enter the doors of the Kodak Theatre.
That's what's great about being an American.
I say tonight I put America in a good light. I showed how vital it is to
have free speech in this country.
Moore however said he did not think the Oscar ceremony should have been
postponed because of the war with Iraq. Oscar organisers spent much of the
week agonizing over whether to go ahead or not, and decided to ax the
glitzy red carpet arrivals to tone down the party atmosphere.
I think it is important to have the Oscars and after all isn't that what
we were fighting for - our American way of life? What could be more
American than the Oscars, he told reporters.

 article#302602

This is my latest assessment updated for last night's Shock and Awe bombing
strike with 1000 cruise missiles reported. TV coverage was my first view of
large numbers of hard target warheads in combat - with very characteristic
effects: underground detonation, jets of fire up from the penetration
holes, dense black smoke and a shower of incandescent metal in the
explosion plume. These are the features of uranium, not tungsten warheads.
War and peace priorities move on day to day and very fast now. Peace
campaigners have failed to stop the war. But now we must try to stop the
bombing - within the next 24 hours or it may be too late to stop a further
escalation of humanitarian consequences of war. From my analysis the
greatest risk to both civilians and troops in Iraq is the suspected use of
Uranium warheads in the smart bombs and cruise missiles now being used in
the US Shock and Awe campaign.
For a summary of Hazards of Uranium weapons in the proposed war on Iraq see
http://www.eoslifework.co.uk/u23.htm and see the online PowerPoint
presentation
Last chance to question US Dirty Bombs for Iraq? at
http://www.eoslifework.co.uk/Uhaz7feb03/index.htm
On 2 Feb (New York Times) the Pentagon revealed plans to use 9700 guided
bombs and 700+ cruise missiles. These are mostly the same weapons as used
in Afghanistan. About 1 in 3 use hard target warheads specifically
designed in
the 1990's to destroy Iraq's underground bunkers, command centres and
chemical or biological weapons etc. See weapons history in Part 3 of my
report Depleted Uranium weapons 2001-2002, Mystery metal nightmare in
Afghanistan?
January 2002, at http://www.eoslifework.co.uk/du2012.htm.
These warheads use from 50 kg to 1500 kg of a secret, dense metal to
increase their penetration and incendiary effects. Average about 500 kg.
This mystery metal is 2.5 x heavier than steel and 1.7 x heavier than lead.
This enables bomb and missile warheads to penetrate 2x deeper than old
weapons. According to US Patent Office records this secret metal is
Tungsten or
Depleted Uranium. Where powerful incendiary effects are needed Uranium is
the logical military choice. It burns at 5000 degrees. This does not just
burn, but carbonises victims (recall photos from the 1991 Gulf War).
URANIUM BLITZ My analysis of these weapons (main reports January and
October 2002) indicates
that US forces will use 1500+ tons of Uranium guided weapons in the Shock
Awe phase of attacks. (3000 weapons x 500 kg see above). Key weapons are
the AGM-86D, Tomahawk, AGM-142 and AGM-130C cruise missiles plus the 2-ton
GBU-28
and 37 Bunker Buster guided bombs and the most widely used 2000 lb guided
bombs - GBU-15, 24, 27 (Paveway) and GBU-31 (JDAM).
The only description for this is a Uranium Blitz.
If military advisers deny this, ask them what the metal is that produces
showers of white stars in the explosion clouds seen on TV last night.
Nickel, Cobalt, Steel or Tungsten? - no way. Uranium is the only hi-density
metal in
cruise missiles and guided bombs that burns in air. Uranium warheads
explode at 5000 degrees - the highest non-nuclear explosion temperature.
Hence the fire storm inside targets.
Uranium bombs produce dense black smoke. This contains fine Uranium oxide
dust, 60% less than 1.5 microns. Much of this will stay in the atmosphere
for several months. Civilians and troops breathing this dust are at risk of
short
term toxic poisoning and long term radiation damage e.g. leukaemia,
lymphomas and birth defects. Please note I talk about Uranium weapons, not
only depleted uranium. The
Afghan bombing victims tested by UMRC last June had severe uranium
contamination - 100 x normal. This was from undepleted uranium - same effects
as DU but the contamination is effectively camouflaged to standard medical
and environmental testing. It is also politically camouflaged because all
questions to Governments have been restricted to Depleted Uranium weapons.
Sick but brilliant.
==
*** PRIORITY TODAY - STOP THE DIRTY BOMBS ***
We cannot stop the war now. But we can challenge Tony Blair to demand that
US and UK forces cease using ANY Uranium weapons in the US and UK attacks
on Iraq IMMEDIATELY. The 1000 cruise missiles used yesterday almost
certainly contained 250-500 tons of Uranium warheads in Baghdad. This is as
much Uranium contamination in
one night as the whole 300 tons used in the 1991 Gulf War. WORSE IS TO
COME. The B52 bombers from RAF Fairford each carry 24 x 2000 lb guided
bombs. Many of these will be hard target guided bombs, most commonly:
GBU-28 37 Bunker Busters - 2-ton bombs with 1500 kg suspected Uranium
ballast -- GBU-24, JDAM GBU-31 and AGM-130C -- hard target 2000-lb.
warheads with 500 kg suspected uranium in each. Lockheed Martin patent 1997
for tungsten AND Uranium versions
(http://www.eoslifework.co.uk/u23.htm#appendix2
)
These B52s can deliver 12 tons of Uranium contamination per sorti - more
than the total 10

trusting in you and believing in God that you will never let

I am Dan Walker the Auditor General of one of the prime
banks here in South Africa, during the course of our
auditing,I discovered a floating fund in an account opened
in the bank in 1996 and since 1998 nobody has operated on
this account again, after going through some old files in the
records I discovered that the owner of the account died
without a [Heir/WILL] hence the money is floating and if I
do not remit this money out urgently it will be forfeited
for nothing. The owner of this account is PEDRO F.HASLER a
foreigner,a great industrialist and he died since 1998.No
other person knows about this account or any thing
concerning it, the account has no other beneficiary and my
investigation proved to me as well that until his death he
was the manager GOLD ARK [pty]. SA.

We will start the first transfer with Six million
[$6,000.000] upon successful transaction without any
disappoint from your side, we shall re-apply for the payment
of the remaining rest amount to your account.

The total amount involve is Twenty six million United States
Dollars only [$26,000.000.00]. I want to first transfer
$6,000.000.00 [Six million United States
Dollar] from this money into a safe foreigners account
abroad before the rest. But I don't know any foreigner, I am
only contacting you as a foreigner because this money can
not be approved to a local person here, without valid
international foreign
passport, but can only be approved to any foreigner with
valid international passport or drivers license and foreign
a/c because the money is in US dollars and the former owner
of the a/c is a foreigner too, and the money can only be
approved into a foreign a/c.

However, we will sign a binding agreement, to bind us
together when we meet face to face after the first transfer
of $6 Million before transferring the second part of $20

This Henry Makow clown is representative of the twisted mindset that

that American commits around the world, the more they blame some Foreign
scapegoat--in this case some nonsense about a secret Global New World
Order cabal which is really responsible for American Imperialist
aggression around the world.

According to this crank, America is not guilty for the wars and crimes it
has waged around the world. Its actually the Globalists who are secretly
responsible and have tricked those poor Innocent Peace-Loving Americans
into engaging in these wars of aggression.

What Bullshit. Expect all the Talk Radio morons, miltia maniacs and other
American Patriots to latch onto this crap like a criminal desperately
looking for an alibi.

Like most American propagandists, this Makow regurgitates all the familiar
tropes that the Nationalist Right in America loves: New World Order
conspiracism, the United Nations as a prelude to World Government,
anti-Communism/Yellow Peril hysteria (involving China), secret cabals and
plots, and of course, the idea of America the Innocent Victim.

The Real Agenda and Purpose of Makow's disinformation is revealed in the
last sentence of his screed when he gives the advice to all Good Americans:
Americans should direct their anger not at their country but against their
political and cultural elite, which is corrupt, cowardly, and traitorous.

Yeah, that's right. All Good Americans should NOT question their own
capitalistic American system, or American Imperialist aggression around the
world, or worst of all their two hundred year old American Evil Empire
itself. Blame those traitorous elites who are part of the secret New
World Order Globalist cabal who hate Americans because we are FREE.

You notice how these Nationalist always invoke the Traitor Card whenever
they want to attack someone. They will always front themselves as Defenders
of the Nation and attack anyone who opposes them as Traitors to the
American Fatherland.

Some of the things he says are so ridiculous they would be funny if they
weren't coming from the mouth of a self-proclaimed PhD. I wonder what he
has his PhD in--PSYOPS and disinformation?

From Protest to Resistance.

2003-03-23 Thread professor rat

Labor parliamentarians backed Opposition Leader Simon Crean's
change of tack on Australian troops in Iraq, after he dropped a call for
them to return home. ALP now anti-war in rhetoric alone. Pro-war in
practice.
In a move typical of the ALP, labor parliamentarians have backed their
leader's position of keeping the troops fighting the war in Iraq.

Crean's support the troops position has morphed into
supporting the fighting - while mouthing anti-war rhetoric.
The ALP will now do their best to thwart the Victorian Peace Network,
calling rally after rally and running the whole thing into the ground.

Attendees at recent rallies will have noticed the absence of direct
action, absence of empowering rhetoric, and minimal support for local
groups. Our task as protesters seems merely to stand around and listen to
speeches. We are to follow their lead, or lack thereof.
The focus will remain on Howard's war, while ingoring the
pro-war stance of Crean.
In this way the Victorian Peace Network can be used as a vehicle for
channelling votes into the ALP, while being ineffectual against the war.

Instead of keeping protesters disempowered by pointing them towards a
two-party system and looking only to the election late next year (what
use is that?), the Victorian Peace Network could be taking a proactive
stance.
How about having a speaker who actually gives people ideas of things that
they could do against the war. (Besides getting more people to the next
rally.)

Here are some ideas:
If you are from a local group you could make a banner for your group with
come here to join us, and take it to the next rally. The
speakers will hardly promote your group - you'll have to do it yourself.

The time for protest alone is over.
We have a majority on our side, but the gevernment can just ignore us if
all we do is protest. Now is the time to move ( as they said in the
Vietnam war protests) from protest to resistance.
It is now time to non-violently resist the war. Time to do things that
disrupt. That get it the way. So that next time the Government wants a
war, they stop and think -- is the war worth the disruption that comes
along with it?
If you have an idea for an action promote it yourself at the next rally.
If the action is not a protest, but actually involves resisting the war,
then it won't get announced from the stage. You could make leaflets, make
a large banner with the details.
Why not padlock shut petrol stations and put on a sticker closed
for the war.
Why not shut down intersections? In San Francisco 1300 people were
arrested when war broke out. They chose 20 intersections to block and
shut the city down for over a day. A local group could shut down a local
intersection for a while. You can always move when the police arrive, if
you don't want to be arrested.
Offer help to anyone who is arrested. If there is support around for
people when they are arrested and face court, then more people will take
this risk.
There are many ideas around, just search the internet. But most
important, don't wait for the Victorian Peace Network to tell you what to
do. Stopping the war will take more than marching and voting.
Find some people you know who are anti-war (the majority of the
population) think up an action, and do it! Start small, but dream big.

Major League War Holes.

2003-03-23 Thread professor rat
Chris Maxwell and Hilary Charlesworth: War may be a crime

March 24, 2003
THE start of hostilities against Iraq must not be allowed to distract
attention from the illegality of the war.

This action, which is sought to be justified as enforcement of Iraq's
international obligations, is itself a fundamental violation of
international law.

To the question Has the Security Council authorised this war?, there can
be only one answer: of course not. The coalition of the willing refrained
from seeking the Security Council's specific authorisation in the past few
weeks precisely because they knew it would be refused. Their decision not
to put a further resolution after 1441 was candidly explained to the world:
a resolution authorising war would not have commanded even a majority of
votes on the council.

No question of a veto by France or Russia would have arisen, so clear was
the lack of council support. And the ground of opposition – which was a
matter of public record, in the deliberations of the council and beyond –
was simple and readily comprehensible: the inspections process appeared to
be working and, accordingly, the last resort precondition for war was not met.

Faced with these unpalatable truths, the proponents of the war have tried
to stitch together a cloak of authorisation from stray threads in earlier
council resolutions, stretching back as far as 1990 and 1991. They claim
that implicit approval of the war is to be found in a combination of
resolution 678 (1990), which sanctioned the use of force after Iraq's
invasion of Kuwait, resolution 687 (1991), which set out the ceasefire
terms, and resolution 1441 (2002), which dealt with strengthening the
procedures to monitor Iraq's disposal of its weapons of mass destruction.

This attempt to invent a continuing authorisation for war against Iraq is
unconvincing. It is also disingenuous. For example, the coalition's
interpretation of resolution 1441 conveniently ignores the fact – once
again a matter of public record – that the US put up an initial version of
that resolution, authorising the use of force if Iraq did not adequately
comply with its terms, but withdrew the draft when it became clear that the
proposal did not command the council's support.

Likewise, the US and UK ambassadors to the UN said to the Security Council
on November 8, 2002 that resolution 1441 contained no hidden trigger for
war. How it could now be seriously suggested that resolution 1441
implicitly authorises force is beyond comprehension.

As for the 1990 and 1991 resolutions, the coalition is effectively saying:
We much prefer what the Security Council said about the first Gulf War and
we'll pretend that it applies to unforeseen events 13 years later. This is
as ludicrous as if the US President had learnt that the necessary
resolution authorising this war was not going to pass both houses of
Congress, but had pressed ahead undaunted, calling on congressional
resolutions endorsing the 1991 war.

So we must be more vigilant than ever, lest the members of the coalition be
as careless with international law in their conduct of the war as they have
shown themselves to be in launching it.

International humanitarian law places important limits on the means and
methods of warfare. The Geneva Conventions of 1949 (to which Iraq and all
members of the coalition are parties) and their 1977 protocols set out some
of these limits: for example, the prohibitions on targeting civilian
populations and civilian infrastructure and causing extensive destruction
of property not justified by military objectives.

Intentionally launching an attack knowing that it will cause incidental
loss of life or injury to civilians which would be clearly excessive in
relation to the concrete and direct overall military advantage anticipated
constitutes a war crime at international law. The military objective of
disarming Iraq could not justify widespread harm to the Iraqi population.

The public statements of General Peter Cosgrove at the weekend suggest that
the military commanders responsible for the deployment of Australian troops
are paying careful attention to these legal constraints. But what
confidence can we have that the same will be true of the onslaught on
Baghdad, which is not under Australian control but in which Australia is
complicit?

Prime Minister John Howard has referred repeatedly to his passionate
commitment to the war against Iraq. Passion seems a curious driver for a
war that undermines the system of collective security established by the UN
charter, itself the product of lengthy negotiations.

The opening words of the charter serve as a sober reminder of what is at
stake: We the peoples of the UN determined to save succeeding generations
from the scourge of war. Those who would invoke the authority of
international law should never forget that it is founded on a passion for
peace.

This is no different than the various
request-permission-to-transmit proposals, aside from adding cost
to the mix. Doing so will cut down on normal person to person discourse
 before it fixes spam.

Yes, some Balkination may occur at the outset, but this is something that
is recipient controlled not something mandated by ISPsm etc.
What I was attempting to point out is that adding wealth transfer is not
adding any value over request-to-transmit.
Sure it does once the stamps have real value and I get to keep them if I
don't like the message.

Sender pays can be rolled out using PoW stamps almost immediately. Yes,
some early adopters may find themselves cut off from senders who either
can't or won't make the effort to create and attach computation
stamps. For this reason sender-pays should be serious considered by most
businesses until widely adopted. But for individuals inundated with spam
it could be a quick and effective solution. Of course, the question they
will ask when the spam stops is how many others aren't sending email cause
 they think I'm fringe. :)

 steve
Unless and until Outlook supports wealth transfer for mail this will
never happen. Unless and until MS profits from fixing the problem,
Outlook will never support the notion. (and if MS does support it, mutt
and evolution won't, because that's M$ hegemony. etc.) Sender-pays
won't fly.
Plug-ins for both Outlook and Eudora plug-in would go a long way toward a
solution. M$ and IBM are both looking into real value stamps as a solution.

Put another way, you could deny unstamped mail from me if you wanted, with a
bounce asking me to enter a credit card at the web page of your choice.
Why are you not doing so?
CC aren't a solution. What I want is
- a Eudora plugin to check for hashcash stamps, send bounce messages, auto
generate my hashcash stamps, and help create and maintain my white list.
- a web site which offers a hashcash stamp generator applet and simple
instructions for

Procmail and a CGI would allow this.
I don't run a mail server.

I'll even

Write the above code and I will.

I concur. The question was never asked of me and I never said I supported
having required ISP involvement in the pricing and settlement of
send-pays. I think this should be end-user driven, perhaps supported by
distributed servers akin to PGP key servers where senders can learn about
their intended recipient's keys and cost to accept email. This cost
can be
in GHz-seconds for PoW or in some monetary unit once real values are
 practical.

This is different. If sender-pays somehow ends up being
mutt/eudora/outlook asks me to set a payment threshold, and then the
pennys roll in, that does defeat most of my problems. It still won't
work for a spam fix, but, well, there you go.
I think such an approach will immediately and almost completely eliminate
the low value proposition spam, which now predominates our in-boxes, from
those using it. (Of course, it will also eliminate some of the non-spam
initial contact attempts.) Higher value pitches, legit and otherwise, where
the uptake from recipients is likely to be significant from a traditional
marketing perspective (i.e. about 1%) will still be there because it still
makes economic sense to send the missives.
