Bug#375381: debmirror: fails since there is no Packages file in ftp.debian.org
A Mennucc [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Package: debmirror Version: 20051209 Severity: normal hi since yesterday, debmirror fails to work it seems that it wants to download dists/etch/main/binary-i386/Packages but that files is not shipped any more in themain repository see the attached log a. The file is generated from the Packages.gz file when that gets downloaded and should never be missing. The error indicates that something went wrong on the previous run leaving a correct Packages.gz file but broken Packages file behind. Shouldn't normaly be happening. Since the actual Packages file hasn't been on the Debian mirrors anymore for way over a year now I guess debmirror should stop caring about it. Anyway, your problem should go away the next time the Packages.gz file gets downloaded. So wait a day or remove the temp/dists/etc/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz file manualy to fix it quick. Bug#375463: epiphany-browser: print preview all but useless
Package: epiphany-browser Version: 2.14.2.1-2 Severity: normal For me, the main reasons to use print preview in a web browser are to see how many pages will be printed, and if everything will fit on the page (mainly, horizontally). For both functions, epiphany's print preview is useless. The example in question is an HTML export of a GnuCash report. Print preview shows four pages with everything fitting on, and my printer produces two pages with stuff falling off on the right. It looks like print preview has its own idea about what kind of paper is in my printer; from the look of it, it seems it uses a paper that is almost square or perhaps even in landscape, whereas my printer prints on portrait A4 paper. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: powerpc (ppc) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17-1-powerpc Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages epiphany-browser depends on: ii dbus 0.62-3simple interprocess messaging syst ii gconf2 2.14.0-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii gnome-icon-theme 2.14.2-1 GNOME Desktop icon theme ii iso-codes 0.51-1.1 ISO language, territory, currency ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.17-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-01.11.4-2 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libaudiofile0 0.2.6-6 Open-source version of SGI's audio ii libavahi-client3 0.6.10-1 Avahi client library ii libavahi-common3 0.6.10-1 Avahi common library ii libavahi-glib1 0.6.10-1 Avahi glib integration library ii libbonobo2-0 2.14.0-1 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2-0 2.14.0-3 The Bonobo UI library ii libc6 2.3.6-15 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.0.4-2 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-20.62-3simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.62-3simple interprocess messaging syst ii libesd-alsa0 [libesd0] 0.2.36-3 Enlightened Sound Daemon (ALSA) - ii libfontconfig1 2.3.2-7 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.2.1-2 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc11:4.1.1-5 GCC support library ii libgconf2-42.14.0-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii libgcrypt111.2.2-1 LGPL Crypto library - runtime libr ii libglade2-01:2.5.1-2 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.10.3-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-desktop-2 2.14.2-1 Utility library for loading .deskt ii libgnome-keyring0 0.4.9-1 GNOME keyring services library ii libgnome2-02.14.1-2 The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomecanvas2-0 2.14.0-2 A powerful object-oriented display ii libgnomeprint2.2-0 2.12.1-5 The GNOME 2.2 print architecture - ii libgnomeprintui2.2-0 2.12.1-4 GNOME 2.2 print architecture User ii libgnomeui-0 2.14.1-2 The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomevfs2-0 2.14.2-1 GNOME virtual file-system (runtime ii libgnutls131.4.0-2 the GNU TLS library - runtime libr ii libgpg-error0 1.2-1 library for common error values an ii libgtk2.0-02.8.18-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libice61:1.0.0-3 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libjpeg62 6b-13 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libmozjs0d 1.8.0.4-1 The Mozilla SpiderMonkey JavaScrip ii libnspr4-0d1.8.0.4-1 NetScape Portable Runtime Library ii liborbit2 1:2.14.0-2libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpango1.0-0 1.12.3-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpng12-0 1.2.8rel-5.1 PNG library - runtime ii libpopt0 1.10-2lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libsm6 1:1.0.0-4 X11 Session Management library ii libstartup-notification0 0.8-1 library for program launch feedbac ii libstdc++6 4.1.1-5 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libtasn1-2 1:0.2.17-2Manage ASN.1 structures (runtime) ii libx11-6 2:1.0.0-6 X11 client-side library ii libxcursor11.1.5.2-5 X cursor management library ii libxext6 1:1.0.0-4 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxfixes3 1:3.0.1.2-4 X11 miscellaneous 'fixes' extensio ii

McCarty wrote: On 6/23/06, Ian Mclaren [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Dear Kevin, It is not clear from your convoluted log, but I suspect this is a 64-bit system and I have the same problem here, i.e. Comis does not work properly. Our 64-bit systems have i386 emulation and I have put statically linked ia32 versions of pawX11 and paw++ for them, which seem to work well. No, this is a 32-bit system (and I've reproduced it on my own 32-bit system). I don't think this has to do with pointer size - rather, it seems to be an issue with the design of COMIS, that it first tries to use a PAW variable by trying to interpret it as the name of a function in any currently loaded libraries. The relevant code seems to be in the PAW source files pawfca.F, csaddr.F, and cs_hlshl.c (C function cs_get_func_()). I'm attaching a simpler test case that may better show what's going on. Untar the attached tarball and run make inside it. Then run paw from the same directory (so that it starts up by executing the enclosed pawlogon.kumac file). best regards, -- Org:CERN - European Laboratory for Particle Physics. Bug#375470: Decoding routines generated by snacc expect extra EOC octets in a tagged CHOICE
Package: snacc Version: 1.3bbn-9 Severity: important -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.14-2-686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages snacc depends on: ii libc6 2.3.6-15 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libsnacc0c2 1.3bbn-9 ASN.1 to C or C++ or IDL compiler, Versions of packages snacc recommends: ii libsnacc-dev 1.3bbn-9 ASN.1 to C or C++ or IDL compiler, pn snacc-doc none (no description available) I found this bug when using snacc to generate the decoding routines for TAP 3.11 (Transfer Account Procedure Data Record Format, Specification Version Number 3. GSM Association, Official Document TD.57, 26 May 2005) and testing them with data files from an external source that are surely of this particular format. The routines returned an unexpected error: BDecEoc: ERROR - non zero byte in EOC or end of data reached The same files could be handled without errors by dumpasn1. It wasn't easy to find out from where these errors come. I inserted printf() calls adjacent to the BDecEoc() calls in the generated decoding routines, and this way I finally found that: The decoding routines expect (and check the presence of) two consecutive EOC octets where only one EOC octet is present in my test files (no, I cannot provide you with them). After deleting the extra code the files went through decoding without errors. I haven't had the same kind of problem with earlier versions of TAP 3, so I searched for an explanation from the changes made in TAP 3 specifications from TAP 3.10 to TAP 3.11, and found that the extra EOC was expected in the decoding routine at a tagged CHOICE, which was non-tagged in earlier TAP 3 specifications. The following is a simplified excerpt of the TAP 3.11 specification: TAP-0311 DEFINITIONS IMPLICIT TAGS ::= BEGIN BasicService ::= [APPLICATION 36] SEQUENCE { serviceCode BasicServiceCodeOPTIONAL, transparencyIndicator INTEGER OPTIONAL } BasicServiceCode ::= [APPLICATION 426] CHOICE { teleServiceCode TeleServiceCode, bearerServiceCode BearerServiceCode } BearerServiceCode ::= [APPLICATION 40] HexString --(SIZE(2)) TeleServiceCode ::= [APPLICATION 218] HexString --(SIZE(2)) HexString ::= OCTET STRING END Compile this by snacc. You can find the following sequence of code in the generated function BDecBasicServiceContent(): BDecBasicServiceCodeContent (b, tagId2, elmtLen2, (v-serviceCode), totalElmtsLen1, env); if (elmtLen1 == INDEFINITE_LEN) BDecEoc(b, totalElmtsLen1, env); if (elmtLen1 == INDEFINITE_LEN) BDecEoc (b, totalElmtsLen1, env); One of the if sentences with its BDecEoc() call is too much, it shouldn't be there! I haven't checked if the coding functions produce output that is compatible with the decoding functions (with extra EOC) or if they are OK. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#370357: possible clues on score of 0
I had a problem very similar to this, now corrected. Along the way I encountered some peculiarities. They may or may not be bugs, and may or may not be related to this report. I believe the problem was triggered by an unsuccessful run of sa-update, and corrected by a successful one. I'm running a new system, Debian testing, 2.6.16 stock kernel. spamassassin has been on it for a few weeks, so it's possible it may have gone throught some upgrades. Today was the first time I tried to use it. 1. as root, ran sa-update. I got an error referring to SHA1 and a failure notice. 2. started spamd, running as user mail. I notice that although I set the user as mail in /etc/default/spamassassin, one of the spamd processes ran as root. Also the socket and spamd.pid files were owned as root. 3. I invoked spamc as user mail from exim ACL's. 4. Every mail I scanned a) had a score of 0 b) said (no report template found) for the spam report 5. I su'd to mail and ran spamassassin -D from there. Like the output at the top of this bug, mine referred to /var/lib/spamassassin/3.001001 and did not show any substantive rules files. 6. Also, it reported that it was autolearning (as ham) the item with a score of 0, since that was than the threshhold of .1. 7. I reran sa-update as root. This time it completed without error. 8. reran spamassassin -D as mail. This time it showed a whole bunch of rules file, and I got some hits and a non-zero score. I also got a real report. Peculiarities remaining: * original failure of sa-update (item 1). I think I saw this same first-time failure of sa-update on another system. My theory is that this led to problems noted in 4a, 4b, and 5. All but 4b appear in the original problem report. * some processes and files from spamd are root (item 2). Presumably this has something to do with start-stop-daemon. Configuration error on my part? Something that should be documented? * autolearn as ham on 0 score (item 6). I thought some docs said the threshold was negative for ham. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#339898: change default highlighting in /etc/Muttrc.t-prot
* Gerfried Fuchs [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2005-11-25 18:28]: * Christian Brabandt [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2005-11-19 16:33]: could you consider changing the default coloring setting for the background color inside /etc/Muttrc.t-prot from black to default? You are very right about that change, I'll be doing it with the next upload, I'm using that myself... (transparent aterms ;)) Just to let you know, with the next update it will be reverted, with the following rationale: /etc/Muttrc uses black as background, and thus using default in the t-prot snippet would make that inconsistent and rather unexpected. The color scheme used in t-prot's Muttrc snippet should match mutt's own color scheme. If one changes mutt's settings it is no big deal to change t-prot one's, too. The telling takes longer than the showing, so I invite interested parties to simply try it. The package is arch:all and available in my personal repository (source+binary). I would love to, but as you can see from this snapshot, this program is not usable with a white on black theme. Can you please fix it? That is a leftover from Tollef's original code in wizard.py, where the UI colors are hard-coded, rather than inherited via the GTK theme. I can see the lines where this is taking place, but I'm not familiar enough with GTK coding to know how to fix it. Help is welcome. -- Martin-Éric Racine http://q-funk.iki.fi

Well, yes, we could remove the path from invoke-rc.d, as long as we coordinate that with other invoke-rc.d's, and there are few enough (two, three?) that it shouldn't be a problem. Whether that will gain you anything depends on nothing else mucking with the PATH, though. And given that we are talking maintainer scripts here, I am not really sure what to expect. I am not at all opposed to removing the policy-rc.d path, *but* it should be handled as a minor specification change (there will be documentation to be updated, and other packages that provide invoke-rc.d, mainly file-rc and friends, need to be checked for compliance). -- One disk to rule them all, One disk to find them. tags 341439 upstream forwarded 341439 [EMAIL PROTECTED] severity 341439 wishlist thankyou This bug is due to the print_host() function in w.c where it assumes the host length is a maximum of 16 characters, bits/utmp.h states it can be as long as 256 chars. Given that we can assume a line length of around 80 columns, what is the best way to solve this? An environment variable? option? Bug#375495: kismet package has too many dependencies
Package: kismet Version: 2006.04.R1-1 I find completly unacceptable that in order to install kismet package one needs to install xfree86-base, due to the dependencies chain. I agree it's useful to use gps with Kismet, but Kismet is basically a curses based application. Not to speak about kismet-drone. I find kismet one of the worst packaged applications in Debian, and my claim is that it's much easier and painless to compile from source than to install the package. I really appreciate the fact that kismet package exists, but I think it's only half-baked, and a little more work has to be done, that is, several dependencies have to pass from necessary to suggested. I'm currently using stable, with few testing packets if necessary, but I think this 'bug' it's because a bad package design, not version related. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#337578: ITP: slim -- simple login manager: Any news?
Hi, Jérémie Corbier schrieb: Any news about this? I've got a ready package...Anybody agains an ITP hijacking? (I don't really know how this works...). Have fun; the only thing I'd ask for is a big fat-ass warning that this is not a drop-in replacement for the *dm packages as it does not handle - properly resetting the X server after logout (severe security implications!) - non-/etc/shadow user accounts (LDAP etc). I.e. it is fine for a laptop, but I would recommend against its use in a true multiuser environment. There were some minor nits as well. ITP hijacking: well, ITPs are advisory locks only. You can either just close the ITP with your upload, or set the bug owner to yourself before doing that. It doesn't make much difference, really. Bug#368684: nagios3: segfault caused by p1.pl being installed incorrectly
tags #368684 unreproducible thanks On Wed, May 24, 2006 at 08:16:19PM +1200, Matt Brown wrote: Marc Haber wrote: Can you give a example configuration? Well, in the course of trying to narrow down my configuration to a set of directives that triggers the error I came across a directive shipped in the default nagios.cfg that is not in my configuration. p1_file=/usr/lib/nagios2/p1.pl I don't actually use the embedded perl interpreter (that I know of) so my configuration (which was originally for Nagios 2.0) did not contain this directive. Adding this directive to my configuration resolves the error. Fine. As far as I can tell this is an undocumented directive, but one that any Debian based configuration will need seeing as p1.pl has been relocated from its default location. Actually, the directive is documented in the what's new part of the documentation, and in the main configuration documentation. So I guess this now becomes a documentation bug :) I have to disagree here. The directive is documented, and the default config we ship correctly sets it. What else should we do? Additionally, I cannot reproduce the segfault when commenting the p1_file directive from the default config. The nagios2 daemon just keeps running.
