Bug#375459: pgplot5: FTBFS: Failed to satisfy Build-Depends dependency for pgplot5: libxaw8-dev

2006-06-26 Thread Andreas Jochens
Package: pgplot5
Version: 5.2.2-7
Severity: serious
Tags: patch

When building 'pgplot5' in a clean unstable chroot,
I get the following error:

dpkg-source: applying ./pgplot5_5.2.2-7.diff.gz
Reading package lists...
Building dependency tree...
Package libxaw8-dev is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
  libxaw-headers
E: Package libxaw8-dev has no installation candidate
E: Failed to satisfy Build-Depends dependency for pgplot5: libxaw8-dev

The attached patch replaces 'libxaw8-dev' with 'libxaw7-dev'
in debian/control.

Regards
Andreas Jochens

Bug#375460: Upgrade to linux kernel 2.6.17 makes Xserver crasing on startup

2006-06-26 Thread Marcel Sebek
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.0.22
Severity: important

Hi.

I upgraded kernel to 2.6.17 and xserver stopped working. I tried both
DRI enabled and disabled. I also tried disabling all modules and removing
all font directories, it didn't help.

The Xserver receives SIGSEG:

Backtrace:

Fatal server error:

This is the trace with ati driver. I also tried vesa, the trace also
started with xf86SigHandler+0x88 and ended with FontFileCompleteXLFD,
but it has a few more lines between.

Bug#375457: lsb-core: please add support for sparc and other architectures

2006-06-26 Thread Martin Habets
Subject: lsb-core: please add support for sparc and other architectures
Package: lsb-core
Version: 2.0-7
Severity: important
Tags: patch

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Installing lsb-core gives this error:

Setting up lsb-core (2.0-7) ...
ld-lsb-*.so.1 symlink for sparc is unknown!

This also stops lsbappchk from building, as documented in bug #212043
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=212043

The build status of lsbappchk shows several architectures suffer
from the same problem.
http://buildd.debian.org/~jeroen/status/package.php?p=lsbappchk

The patch below against lsb-3.1 attempts to fix this issue for all the
architectures mentioned above.

Bug#375381: debmirror: fails since there is no Packages file in ftp.debian.org

2006-06-26 Thread Goswin von Brederlow
A Mennucc [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

 Package: debmirror
 Version: 20051209
 Severity: normal

 hi

since yesterday, debmirror fails to work

it seems that it wants to download
 dists/etch/main/binary-i386/Packages
but that files is not shipped any more in themain repository

 see the attached log

 a.

The file is generated from the Packages.gz file when that gets
downloaded and should never be missing. The error indicates that
something went wrong on the previous run leaving a correct Packages.gz
file but broken Packages file behind. Shouldn't normaly be happening.

Since the actual Packages file hasn't been on the Debian mirrors
anymore for way over a year now I guess debmirror should stop caring
about it. Anyway, your problem should go away the next time the
Packages.gz file gets downloaded. So wait a day or remove the
temp/dists/etc/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz file manualy to fix it
quick.

Goswin

Bug#375463: epiphany-browser: print preview all but useless

2006-06-26 Thread Matijs van Zuijlen
Package: epiphany-browser
Version: 2.14.2.1-2
Severity: normal

For me, the main reasons to use print preview in a web browser are to see
how many pages will be printed, and if everything will fit on the page
(mainly, horizontally). For both functions, epiphany's print preview is
useless.

The example in question is an HTML export of a GnuCash report. Print
preview shows four pages with everything fitting on, and my printer
produces two pages with stuff falling off on the right.

It looks like print preview has its own idea about what kind of paper is in
my printer; from the look of it, it seems it uses a paper that is almost
square or perhaps even in landscape, whereas my printer prints on portrait
A4 paper.

  Dear Kevin,

It is not clear from your convoluted log, but I suspect this is a 64-bit

No, this is a 32-bit system (and I've reproduced it on my own 32-bit
system). I don't think this has to do with pointer size - rather, it
seems to be an issue with the design of COMIS, that it first tries to
use a PAW variable by trying to interpret it as the name of a function
in any currently loaded libraries. The relevant code seems to be in
the PAW source files pawfca.F, csaddr.F, and cs_hlshl.c (C function
 cs_get_func_()).

I'm attaching a simpler test case that may better show what's going
on. Untar the attached tarball and run make inside it. Then run
paw from the same directory (so that it starts up by executing the
 enclosed pawlogon.kumac file).

Bug#375218: ITP: liblzf-dev -- a very small data compression library

iirc there are ways to make a dynamic library even if upstream only
provides a static one. I think I once saw this method employed for
another debian package: use ar t to get a list of objects from the
static library, then call gcc -shared -fPIC on those objects to also
make a dynamic version. Might be a useful addition. Not sure what
the policy is about -dev packages without a non-dev library only
version to acompany it.

Hi,

the package description contains (aka. svn) but this period is wrong, since
aka is an acronym and not an abbreviation.
See for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acronym.

Maybe it's better to write alias or also known as instead of aka.

Bug#375470: Decoding routines generated by snacc expect extra EOC octets in a tagged CHOICE

2006-06-26 Thread Kari Pasanen
Package: snacc
Version: 1.3bbn-9
Severity: important

-- System Information:
Debian Release: testing/unstable

  APT policy: (500, 'unstable')
Architecture: i386 (i686)
Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash
Kernel: Linux 2.6.14-2-686
Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968)

Versions of packages snacc depends on:
ii libc6 2.3.6-15 GNU C Library: Shared libraries
ii  libsnacc0c2   1.3bbn-9   ASN.1 to C or C++ or IDL compiler,

Versions of packages snacc recommends:
ii  libsnacc-dev  1.3bbn-9   ASN.1 to C or C++ or IDL compiler,
pn snacc-doc none (no description available)

I found this bug when using snacc to generate the decoding routines for
TAP 3.11 (Transfer Account Procedure Data Record Format, Specification
Version Number 3. GSM Association, Official Document TD.57, 26 May 2005)
and testing them with data files from an external source that are surely
of this particular format. The routines returned an unexpected error:

BDecEoc: ERROR - non zero byte in EOC or end of data reached

The same files could be handled without errors by dumpasn1.

It wasn't easy to find out from where these errors come. I inserted
printf() calls adjacent to the BDecEoc() calls in the generated decoding
routines, and this way I finally found that:

The decoding routines expect (and check the presence of) two consecutive
EOC octets where only one EOC octet is present in my test files (no,
I cannot provide you with them). After deleting the extra code the
files went through decoding without errors.

I haven't had the same kind of problem with earlier versions of TAP 3,
so I searched for an explanation from the changes made in TAP 3
specifications from TAP 3.10 to TAP 3.11, and found that the extra
EOC was expected in the decoding routine at a tagged CHOICE, which
was non-tagged in earlier TAP 3 specifications.

The following is a simplified excerpt of the TAP 3.11 specification:

TAP-0311  DEFINITIONS IMPLICIT TAGS  ::=

BEGIN

BasicService ::= [APPLICATION 36] SEQUENCE
{
serviceCode BasicServiceCodeOPTIONAL,
transparencyIndicator INTEGER OPTIONAL
}

BasicServiceCode ::= [APPLICATION 426] CHOICE
{
teleServiceCode TeleServiceCode,
bearerServiceCode BearerServiceCode
}

BearerServiceCode ::= [APPLICATION 40] HexString --(SIZE(2))

TeleServiceCode ::= [APPLICATION 218] HexString --(SIZE(2))

HexString ::= OCTET STRING

END

Compile this by snacc. You can find the following sequence of code
in the generated function BDecBasicServiceContent():

BDecBasicServiceCodeContent (b, tagId2, elmtLen2, (v-serviceCode),
totalElmtsLen1, env);
if (elmtLen1 == INDEFINITE_LEN)
BDecEoc(b, totalElmtsLen1, env);
if (elmtLen1 == INDEFINITE_LEN)
BDecEoc (b, totalElmtsLen1, env);

One of the if sentences with its BDecEoc() call is too much, it
shouldn't be there!

I haven't checked if the coding functions produce output that is
compatible with the decoding functions (with extra EOC) or if they
are OK.

Bug#370357: possible clues on score of 0

2006-06-26 Thread Ross Boylan
I had a problem very similar to this, now corrected. Along the way I
encountered some peculiarities. They may or may not be bugs, and may or
may not be related to this report. I believe the problem was
triggered by an unsuccessful run of sa-update, and corrected by a
successful one.

I'm running a new system, Debian testing, 2.6.16 stock kernel.
spamassassin has been on it for a few weeks, so it's possible it may
have gone throught some upgrades. Today was the first time I tried to
use it.

1. as root, ran sa-update. I got an error referring to SHA1 and a
failure notice.
2. started spamd, running as user mail. I notice that although I set
the user as mail in /etc/default/spamassassin, one of the spamd
processes ran as root. Also the socket and spamd.pid files were owned
as root.
3. I invoked spamc as user mail from exim ACL's.
4. Every mail I scanned
  a) had a score of 0
  b) said (no report template found) for the spam report
5. I su'd to mail and ran spamassassin -D from there. Like the
output at the top of this bug, mine referred to
/var/lib/spamassassin/3.001001 and did not show any substantive rules
files.
6. Also, it reported that it was autolearning (as ham) the item with a score of
0, since that was than the threshhold of .1.
7. I reran sa-update as root. This time it completed without error.
8. reran spamassassin -D as mail. This time it showed a whole bunch
of rules file, and I got some hits and a non-zero score. I also got a
real report.

Peculiarities remaining:

* original failure of sa-update (item 1). I think I saw this same
first-time failure of sa-update on another system. My theory is that
this led to problems noted in 4a, 4b, and 5. All but 4b appear in the
original problem report.

* some processes and files from spamd are root (item 2). Presumably
this has something to do with start-stop-daemon. Configuration error
on my part? Something that should be documented?

* autolearn as ham on 0 score (item 6). I thought some docs said the
threshold was negative for ham.

Bug#375440: ratpoison: ships /usr/share/info/dir(.old).gz

* Ian Beckwith [EMAIL PROTECTED] [060626 02:41]:
 Package: ratpoison
 Version: 1.4.0.dfsg-2

I guess that is supposed to be 1.4.0.dfsg-3 ?

ratpoison inappropriately ships /usr/share/info/dir(.old).gz, leading to
 a file conflict with sawfish.

In case it's useful, I'm quoting #373866 (sawfish has the same problem):

Historically, this was symptomatic of using old, broken, versions of
  automake; see http://bugs.debian.org/214769 for details.

 Ian.

Thanks for noticing this. Especially that fast.
(Now I only have to find out how by build system differs from the
official buildds that they produce this file while mine does not)

The patch below can be used to create an udeb containing Mukti fonts,

ttf-freefont is used but quality seems to be much worse (see [1]).

Bug#375476: gtkpod: mab2vcard doesn't work

2006-06-26 Thread Anand Kumria
Package: gtkpod
Version: 0.99.4-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

/usr/share/gtkpod/scripts/mab2vcard is almost usable out of the box;
however it:
- assume thunderbird stores things in ~/.thunderbird
whereas the Debian version stores it in ~/.mozilla-thunderbird

- genereates a list of path but doesn't check for abook.mab
existance. So, for me when I fixed it for the problem above I
get:

mab2vcard: More than one address book found - please specify the correct
one on the command line:
  /home/anand/.mozilla-thunderbird/abook.mab
  /home/anand/.mozilla-thunderbird/igjpwzuj.default/abook.mab
[...]

However only one of those paths exists:

eve:[~]% ls -l /home/anand/.mozilla-thunderbird/abook.mab
ls: /home/anand/.mozilla-thunderbird/abook.mab: No such file or directory
eve:[~]% ls -l /home/anand/.mozilla-thunderbird/igjpwzuj.default/abook.mab
-rw-r--r-- 1 anand anand 71208 2006-06-26 06:33
/home/anand/.mozilla-thunderbird/igjpwzuj.default/abook.mab

It ought to be able to figure that out by itself.

Cheers,
Anand

Bug#339898: change default highlighting in /etc/Muttrc.t-prot

* Gerfried Fuchs [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2005-11-25 18:28]:
 * Christian Brabandt [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2005-11-19 16:33]:
could you consider changing the default coloring setting for the
background color inside /etc/Muttrc.t-prot from black to default?

You are very right about that change, I'll be doing it with the next
upload, I'm using that myself... (transparent aterms ;))

Just to let you know, with the next update it will be reverted, with
the following rationale: /etc/Muttrc uses black as background, and thus
using default in the t-prot snippet would make that inconsistent and
rather unexpected. The color scheme used in t-prot's Muttrc snippet
should match mutt's own color scheme. If one changes mutt's settings it
is no big deal to change t-prot one's, too.

Hi Herbert, please see below, I can confirm that it's an issue, and the

I would love to, but as you can see from this snapshot, this program
is not usable with a white on black theme. Can you please fix it?

That is a leftover from Tollef's original code in wizard.py, where the
UI colors are hard-coded, rather than inherited via the GTK theme.

I can see the lines where this is taking place, but I'm not familiar
enough with GTK coding to know how to fix it.

Help is welcome.

2006-06-26 Thread Mohammed Adnène Trojette
Package: rezound
Version: 0.12.2beta-6
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi,

Attached is a diff for an hypothetical rezound 0.12.2beta-6.1 NMU.

Indeed, I've awkwardly dropped the GLU support from your package. This
patch should introduce it again.

Meanwhile, I also propose to close the mailcap bug and to introduce a
.desktop file (thanks to Ubuntu's maintainer for rezound.)

I hope you'll consider the patch. And sorry for the trouble.

Bug#375484: [lsparisc] Error in package description

2006-06-26 Thread Jens Seidel
Package: lsparisc
Version: 0.2
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

Hi,

the package description is currently wrong:
list all parisc devices currently on system.

It should be
list all parisc devices currently available on the system
I suggest further s/parisc/PA-RISC/ in the description.

That's also used in the DWN which announced this new package.

I assume this issue isn't specific to Rhythmbox then? Maybe it would

Isn't that a bug in whatever package supplies epstopdf not having proper
 dependencies?

epstopdf is part of tetex-bin which only suggests gs but does not
depend on it. This is probably because tetex-bin can be used
without having gs installed. I am not sure if it would be a good
thing to make tetex-bin depend on gs.

That's what I did here, too.

Could you please try the dpkg-buildpackage method? The commands would be

 $sudo apt-get build-dep privoxy
 $apt-get source privoxy
 $cd privoxy-3.0.3-2/
 $dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc -rfakeroot 21 | tee build.log

What happens then? Are you able to compile using this method?

Yes, that works for me without problems (on etch AMD64).

I think your problem is not directly in privoxy but depends on jade.
Please try the following after the (failed) build run (the build run
is necessary to create ldp.dsl from ldp.dsl.in).

cd doc/source
jade -ihtml -t sgml -D.. -d ldp.dsl#html -iuser-man -V nochunks \
  user-manual.sgml user-manual.html

Does this create the same error messages?

If so, please have a look at ldp.dsl on your system using the command
diff -u ldp.dsl.in ldp.dsl

On my system I get the following output:

Err, sorry, I got confused. Well, yes, we could remove the path from
invoke-rc.d, as long as we coordinate that with other invoke-rc.d's, and
there are few enough (two, three?) that it shouldn't be a problem.

Whether that will gain you anything depends on nothing else mucking with the
PATH, though. And given that we are talking maintainer scripts here, I am
not really sure what to expect.

I am not at all opposed to removing the policy-rc.d path, *but* it should be
handled as a minor specification change (there will be documentation to be
updated, and other packages that provide invoke-rc.d, mainly file-rc and
friends, need to be checked for compliance).

Currently p-a-l fails if the selected disk already contains VGs and/or

Bug#375477: here is the description

2006-06-26 Thread Vu Ngoc San
Sorry the bug description has disappeared from my message. Here it is:
Subject: kdeprint: kprinter freezes on network cups printers
Package: kdeprint
Version: 4:3.5.3-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

*** Please type your report below this line ***

I've just moved from testing to unstable and since then I cannot use
kdeprint anymore for accessing a remote cupsd.

When I use kprinter and press print, it freezes for more than 1min
and the fails with a Catastrophe - Knotify, and the following message:

«
cupsdoprint -P 'ETAGE2' -J 'sarnak.ps' -H 'ifapp2:631' -U 'svungoc' -o '
copies=1 multiple-document-handling=separate-documents-collated-copies'
'/home/svungoc/sarnak.ps'

execution failed with message:
client-error-bad-request
»

However if I issue the above command by hand it works...

Other remarks:
When I use kprinter and press properties it also freeze for more than 1min
and then the properties dialog appears.

When I try to configure printer via kde control panel, it freezes.

Of course, everything used to work perfectly before my upgrade..

I'd be grateful for any idea or suggestion!

San

This bug is due to the print_host() function in w.c where it assumes the
host length is a maximum of 16 characters, bits/utmp.h states it can be
as long as 256 chars.

Given that we can assume a line length of around 80 columns, what is the
best way to solve this? An environment variable? option?
It's a wishlist anyhow.

Bug#375496: O: drupal

2006-06-26 Thread Hilko Bengen
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I am orphaning the drupal package. I am no longer using it.

Advice for the DD who wants to take this over: Create separate
versions for major upstream releases: drupal4.5, drupal4.6, drupal4.7.
Don't waste time trying to do automatic database updates -- that
Simply Won't Work. BTDT.

Cheers,
-Hilko

  apt-get dist-upgrade doesn't fix it.

 You have various options:
 - Run /etc/init.d/ntp-server start, so that stopping it works.
 - Edit the /etc/init.d/ntp-server script, and add a --oknodo to
the start-stop-daemon --stop call. This is what changed in -9.
 - Remove the -e from the first line. Adding that is actually
the reason you have the problem in the first place.

I think we need to provide a stable upgrade path, at least from the previous
stable version. Something in the preinst like the stuff we recently removed
might be the ticket.

Bug#375494: slapd: buffer overflow on long host names [CVE-2006-2754]

2006-06-26 Thread Martin Pitt
Package: slapd
Version: 2.2.26-5
Severity: important

Hi!

Several distros recently fixed a buffer overflow in slurpd wrt. long
host names in the status file. This should not usually be exploitable,
but it is at least a nice bug fix for crashes. Please see

  http://patches.ubuntu.com/patches/openldap2.2.CVE-2006-2754.diff

for the patch.

Thank you,

Martin

Bug#375495: kismet package has too many dependencies

2006-06-26 Thread Ivan Altarriba

Package: kismet
Version: 2006.04.R1-1

I find completly unacceptable that in order to install kismet package
one needs to install xfree86-base, due to the dependencies chain.

I agree it's useful to use gps with Kismet,
but Kismet is basically a curses based application.
Not to speak about kismet-drone.

I find kismet one of the worst packaged applications in Debian,
and my claim is that it's much easier and painless to compile from source
than to install the package.

I really appreciate the fact that kismet package exists,
but I think it's only half-baked, and a little more work has to be done,
that is, several dependencies have to pass from necessary to suggested.

I'm currently using stable, with few testing packets if necessary,
but I think this 'bug' it's because a bad package design, not version
related.

Fair enough. I was mostly concerned about nobody ever seeing the

Bug#375497: inkscape: New upstream version 0.44

2006-06-26 Thread Samuel Colin
Package: inkscape
Version: 0.43-5
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

the new 0.44 version of inkscape was released a few days ago. The
Debian upgrade might take care of some the known problems, at the end
of http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/ReleaseNotes044, more
specifically :
- Linking with libgc 1:6.7-2 or more to avoid some of the crashes
described by users
- Crash when the composite extension of Xorg is activated is also
solved.

The impressive list of new features alone is a good incentive for an
upgrade as well.

Regards,
Samuel Colin

Package: rootskel

Please find attached a patch, which adds support for detecting the /dev/hvc*
virtual serial consoles on recent IBM POWER machines.

The /dev/ttyS* was added on Bastian Blank's request.

It would be nice if this most trivial of changes could be included before he
beta3 was out.

Bug#337578: ITP: slim -- simple login manager: Any news?

Hi,

I've got a ready package...Anybody agains an ITP hijacking? (I don't really
know how this works...).

Have fun; the only thing I'd ask for is a big fat-ass warning that this
is not a drop-in replacement for the *dm packages as it does not handle

 - properly resetting the X server after logout (severe security
implications!)

 - non-/etc/shadow user accounts (LDAP etc).

I.e. it is fine for a laptop, but I would recommend against its use in a
true multiuser environment.

There were some minor nits as well.

ITP hijacking: well, ITPs are advisory locks only. You can either just
close the ITP with your upload, or set the bug owner to yourself before
doing that. It doesn't make much difference, really.

Bug#368684: nagios3: segfault caused by p1.pl being installed incorrectly

Can you give a example configuration?

Well, in the course of trying to narrow down my configuration to a set
of directives that triggers the error I came across a directive shipped
in the default nagios.cfg that is not in my configuration.

  p1_file=/usr/lib/nagios2/p1.pl

I don't actually use the embedded perl interpreter (that I know of) so
my configuration (which was originally for Nagios 2.0) did not contain
 this directive.

Adding this directive to my configuration resolves the error.

Fine.

As far as I can tell this is an undocumented directive, but one that any
Debian based configuration will need seeing as p1.pl has been relocated
 from its default location.

Actually, the directive is documented in the what's new part of the
documentation, and in the main configuration documentation.

So I guess this now becomes a documentation bug :)

I have to disagree here. The directive is documented, and the default
config we ship correctly sets it. What else should we do?

Additionally, I cannot reproduce the segfault when commenting the
p1_file directive from the default config. The nagios2 daemon just
keeps running.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#344166: fixed in coreutils 5.96-4

reopen 344166
thanks

Hi,

I'm sorry, but it still FTFBS with the same error.

* Try to clobber chcon man page build on hurd Closes: #344166

We need to touch chcon.1 when building on the Hurd; make won't try to
update it then (updating would fail, as help2man couldn't find the binary
to produce the output).

If I reverse the touch command to `ifeq', it builds fine on the buildd:

ifeq ($(DEB_HOST_ARCH_OS),hurd)
touch $(BUILD_TREE)/man/{ch,run}con.1
endif

Bug#375503: manpages/docbook.xsl: linebreaks not preserved in screen environment

2006-06-26 Thread Tilman Koschnick
Package: docbook-xsl
Version: 1.68.1.dfsg.1-0.2
Severity: normal

Hi,

when translating from docbook to troff format, linebreaks within the
screen environment are not preserved, as mandated by the DocBook
specification:

This element is displayed “verbatim”; whitespace and linebreaks within
this element are significant.
http://www.docbook.org/tdg5/en/html/screen.html

The attached patch fixes this.

Cheers, Til
