Bug#423478: rhythmbox: version in experimental and old libraries

2007-05-12 Thread Laurent Bonnaud
Package: rhythmbox
Version: 0.10.0-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

the latest rhythmbox version is available, but only in experimental and
still depends on the old library versions.

Now that etch is out, could you please upload rhythmbox 0.10 to sid and
build it with the latest library versions ?

I think that the maintainer accidentially killed the dh_shlibdeps call
in debian/rules while getting rid of the libgcompris packages. Simply
adding it back to binary-arch will generate the dependancies.

Bug#423476: Internal portaudio v19 libraries crash against JACK on AMD64

On Saturday 12 May 2007 07:49:14 Emmet Hikory wrote:
Package: audacity

The JACK interface of the internal portaudio libraries used by
audacity do not have proper memory bounds checking for 64-bit
architectures (see bug 406754 for discussion). The decision taken by
the portaudio maintainer appears to have been to disable JACK for
architectures other than i386 and powerpc. Please consider the
attached patch as a similar workaround for the audacity package, until
such time as this issue is fullly addressed.

Thank you.

Free, others,

what is your opinion on this issue?

This should be fixed in 1:3.6.2-4, though it will probably take some

Bug#399698: lastfm: width of window not adjustable(song title not fully visible)

2007-05-12 Thread John Stamp
On Tuesday 21 November 2006, Kevin Mark wrote:
Hi,
the window does not display the full title of the song. I'd like to
be able to read the full song title. So can you either make the
window resize to show the title, make the font adjustable, or maybe
make a tooltip with the full title.

This is fixed in the latest version in unstable: 1.1.3.0

Also is there anyway to make the album image any bigger? 'X%' box to
make it bigger?
Cheers,
Kev

The album images are now larger than before, but fixed at 137x137.
Let me know if this takes care of the problem, or if you'd still like
to keep the bug open for the sake of the image size.

Cheers,

John Stamp

(You'll have to take my word for it that those things are also all
actually running :) .)

Nobody said there was a compile time conflict... the real question,
which numerous people have failed to answer over the last couple of
months, is: Does gtk-window-decorator built against libmetacity0 =
2.15.21 work with libmetacity0 2.15.21? If not, the conflict just
needs to be reversed or changed into a versioned dependency.

Another thing. This should be fixed and compiz 0.3.6 moved from
experimental to unstable sometime in the not-too-distant future, because
currently the (legitimate, I assume) conflict between compiz 0.2.2 and
libmetacity0 = 2.15.21 prevents anyone from having both compiz and
metacity up-to-date in unstable.

Agreed.

Bug#423090: xserver-xorg-input-evdev: selecting evdev for keyboard driver crashes

2007-05-12 Thread Brice Goglin
We need a nice backtrace of the crash (when evdev is used for the
keyboard). Could you install xserver-xorg-core-dbg and rebuild the evdev
driver with debugging enabled (you might want to look at
http://wiki.debian.org/HowToGetABacktrace to do so, and replace hello
with xserver-xorg-input-evdev).

Then try to capture a backtrace in gdb. Once the crash occurs, do bt
full and send us the output.

Since the server crashes immediatly, this method might work. If it does
not, you might want to do that from another machine through ssh. Let me
know if you need help.

Thanks,
Brice

Now that etch is out, could you please upload rhythmbox 0.10 to sid and
build it with the latest library versions ?

I'm currently building it; please note that libgpod (which was a
prerequisite) was only uploaded yesterday, it was not possible to
upload rhythmbox until today.

Bug#422202: Tried new kernel - same behaviour

2007-05-12 Thread Adam Bartley

Hi Dann,

So I tried the new kernel and got the same behaviour. It worked for exactly
a week after installation then tanked in the same way. I *think* it must be
a firmware issue - like it uses the loaded firmware for a week, goes to
refresh it and fails. Your thoughts?

Bug#418986: mediawiki1.9: General update after the debconf review process

2007-05-12 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear Debian maintainer,

Some time ago, I sent you a notification about the beginning of a review
action on debconf templates for mediawiki1.9.

Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and annoucing
the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation
updates.

Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts.

Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your
development tree as long as they were reported.

The attached tarball contains:

- debian/changelog with the list of changes
- debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions
- debian/templates with all the rewritten templates file(s)
- debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones)

As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here,
preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All
of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting
errors have been corrected.

The patch-nopo file contains a patch for the templates and control file(s).

Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control
file(s) of your package as of Saturday, May 12, 2007. If your package was
updated
in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also
may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not
modified such files while the review process was running,
remember..:-)

It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes.

Please notify me of your intents with regards to this.

There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to
contact me in case you would need sponsoring or any other action to
fix this.

What are exactly the consequences of this bug? How badly does it

64 Studio has been shipping the current audacity 1.3.2 Debian package

Not sure why /dev/hda is so slow though. Maybe it's a bug, but not an
important one.

Actually I think we can do much better with our own simple program that uses
libparted. See attachment.

On my amd64 sid, compiled with -Os and stripped it just takes 5224 bytes.

ii iceweasel 2.0.0.3-1 lightweight web browser based on Mozilla

epiphany-browser returns exit code 1 and does not leave a core.

It doesn't because it doesn't crash, but terminates.

The application 'epiphany' lost its connection to the display :0.0;
most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed
the application.

Program exited with code 01.

This is something that is triggered by gtk or gdk, i can't remember,
because it can't allocate some object. Usually, this happens with huge
images or huge text. The fun part of it is that it's gtk/gdk that does
the exit() call...

Bug#423490: update-manager-core: Please, improve description

2007-05-12 Thread Vincent Danjean
Package: update-manager-core
Version: 0.59.20-1
Severity: normal

 Hi,

I just saw this package in the 'new packages' section of aptitude.
Reading its description, I've no idea what it is about.
Is it related to the 'apt-get update' command ? What is a 'APT update
manager' ? ...

I think that, at least, the long description should be improved.

 Best regards,
Vincent

Bug#423488: error in redefined seq subfunction in bash-doc/examples/startup-files/Bash_aliases

2007-05-12 Thread Nicolas Aupetit
Package: bash-doc
Version: 3.1dfsg-8
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

Hello,

I've had some issues with the example file in :
/usr/share/doc/bash-doc/examples/startup-files/Bash_aliases

First, it redefines the seq function without using
the /usr/bin/seq program, which cause some issues in bash.

So it would be better to rename this internal function
to _seq.

After that, this function has a bug (one iteration too far)
First :
repeat 10 echo foo | wc -l == 11
After my patch :
repeat 10 echo foo | wc -l == 10

Thank you very much for applying this patch :)

hi julien,

(sorry for the delay)

i haven't been able to reproduce this on my machines:

copelandia
CHECK_NRPE: Error receiving data from daemon.
client-158[/home/sean] [3] :( echo $?

(tried both with ssl and without ssl on client end, and tried with and
without ssl on server end). i've also tried firewalling the port on the
server and get similar error codes.

i'm guessing then that this must have be specific to nrpe running under
windows then? i don't have any windows hosts running nrpe that i can
use as a test case, any chance you could provide me a way to test
against one of them?

and fwiw, i'll be uploading a new version of nrpe today, it might be
worth seeing if it magically fixes your problem.

When check_nrpe contacts a NRPE server who doesn't allow the IP address it

It should normally return 3.

I've tried with the original source and it works, so there is a problem with
the patch but I can't find it.

Here is the test case with the check_nrpe provided by the package :
nagios:/# /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_nrpe -H 10.3.0.24 -c check_cpu
nagios:/# echo $?
141

The interesting part of the strace is the end :

-1 EPIPE (Broken pipe)

This is a problem because Nagios considers this result as OK.

The NRPE server is a windows XP with NSClient++-20070306-1940 installed.
I've been able to reproduce this problem on a another machine just by
removing the IP address of the
Nagios server

Now the test case with the same source but with patch not applied :
nagios:~/nagios-nrpe-2.5.1/src# ./check_nrpe -H 10.3.0.24 -c check_cpu
CHECK_NRPE: Received 0 bytes from daemon. Check the remote server logs for
error messages.
superca-nagios:~/nrpe-2.7.1/src# echo $?
3

I have searched in the patch but I don't find any idea to correct this
problem.

The problem is in git_load_dirs - empty dirs aren't tracked by git but
git_load_dirs tries to remove it via git-rm anyway:

# git_load_dirs -v ../../upstream/vvv-2
Running: git ['rm', '-r', 'dirs/']

with the same error. The same happens with dot files btw. John, do you
have a good suggestion on how to resolve this? Would you consider
checking the exit status of git-status dir/ to check if it's tracked
by git o.k.?
Cheers,

Bug#391892: Suggestion for the warning-mail

2007-05-12 Thread Andreas Beck

I have just ran into the same problem Stephen described and would like
to suggest a simple way to solve the problem:

I agree that admins tend to be lazy, so the warning should be repeated
until resolved manually. However the mail about the non-empty paniclog
contains no indication that manually emptying the paniclog is required
or how to do that.

So I suggest to add

after resolving the error cause, please rotate away the paniclog by
e.g. using 'logrotate -f /etc/logrotate.d/exim4-base'.

to the mail message or some similar hint.

This avoids the confusion of What? Still an error? I fixed that
yesterday, didn't I?.

Background:
I also had a config error that in previous versions only yielded a
warning and fixed it with the first mail about it. Next day, same
warning. I looked and found nothing new, so I left it at it, assuming
the paniclog file would rotate away now. A few days later I still get
the mails and think hmm - rotates weekly?. After some more days I get
annoyed and check to see it rotates on size. I was tempted to pull it to
weekly, but then first checked if the problem was known and the
discussion here convinced me that it is correct to require manual
interaction, but think one should be told explicitly that it is
required.

Bug#423502: libcegui-mk2-0c2a: soname change without package name bump

2007-05-12 Thread Darren Salt
Package: libcegui-mk2-0c2a
Version: 0.5.0-1
Severity: serious

I just downloaded and installed smc from unstable. On trying to run it, I got
the following error:

smc: error while loading shared libraries: libCEGUIBase.so.1: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory

Since testing is preferred here, the dependency was satisfied from testing -
and the version in testing contains libCEGUIBase.so.0.

Therefore, the package needs to be renamed to libcegui-mk2-1; AFAICS, smc and
ogre will need to be rebuilt as a result.

Bug#423095: [Pkg-sysvinit-devel] Bug#423095: sysvinit: Allow bootsplash packages to hook into fsck events

2007-05-12 Thread David Härdeman

Here's a more complete stub (/lib/init/splash-functions-base) file which
should allow many more scripts to use the generic functions.

This API looks quite good, and I suspect it will handle most needs.
We might need some splash_start_if_not_running() or similar, for the
cases where it need to be restarted.

Also, this function need to have more features:

# Tells the splash the current boot progress in percent (as $1)
splash_progress () { return 0; }

In usplash, the progress bar can go both ways, depending on the sign
of the progress value. It is used during shutdown. We probably want
to support it in the API.

I've thought a bit more about the API and also experimented with
implementing it in some different scripts which uncovered some more
functionality that was needed.

I've attached a new version of the hooks and an example implementation
for usplash to give you a fell of how it would work when implemented.

Please review.

Thanks for reporting this! Before uploading a new version, would the following
description be ok?

Description: VDR plugin that provides extensive EPG searching capabilities
This plugin for the Linux Video Disc Recorder (VDR) allows searching the EPG
(electronic program guide) data by defining search terms that can permanently
be stored in a list for later reuse. It supports regular expressions and is
capable of doing fuzzy searches. EPG-Search scans the EPG in background and
can automatically create timers for matching search terms. Besides this it
supports searching for repetitions, detection of timer conflicts, sending
emails on timer events and much more. Search terms can also be added and
modified with the package vdradmin-am, a web frontend for VDR.

I don't think it is necessary, to explicitly point to the package vdr in the
description, because vdr-plugin-epgsearch depends on vdr.

I've succesfully built gtkmm 2.10.9 and glibmm 2.12.8 packages. They

Bug#423504: RFP: powertop -- linux tool to find out what is using power on a laptop

2007-05-12 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: powertop
 Version : 1.0
Upstream Author : Arjan van de Ven
* URL : http://www.linuxpowertop.org/
* License : GPL
 Programming Lang: C
Description : linux tool to find out what is using power on a laptop

PowerTOP is a Linux tool that finds the software component(s) that
make your laptop use more power than necessary while it is idle. As of
Linux kernel version 2.6.21, the kernel no longer has a fixed 1000Hz
timer tick. This will (in theory) give a huge power savings because
the CPU stays in low power mode for longer periods of time during
system idle.

However... there are many things that can ruin the party, both inside
the kernel and in userspace. PowerTOP combines various sources of
information from the kernel into one convenient screen so that you can
see how well your system is doing, and which components are the
biggest problem.

It work best when the NO_HZ and CONFIG_TIMER_STATS kernel options are
enabled.

I have exactly the same problem (that the driver thinks something is

As a workaround I added this line to xsession:

And after that gnome-screensaver works again. Might be something to try

Bug#423507: ITP: ibpp -- C++ client interface for Firebird

2007-05-12 Thread David Paleino
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: David Paleino

* Package name: ibpp
 Version : 2.5.3.1
Upstream Author : T.I.P. Group S.A. and the IBPP Team (www.ibpp.org)
* URL : http://www.ibpp.org/
* License : IBPP License 1.1 [1]
 Programming Lang: C++
Description : C++ client interface for Firebird

BPP is a C++ client interface for Firebird versions 1.0, 1.5 and
further. It also works with InterBase® 6.0, though it is expected
it might only support Firebird in the future.
It is a class library, free of any specific development tool
dependencies. It is not tied to any ‘visual’ or ‘RAD’ tool. It was
indeed developed to add Firebird access in any C++ application.
Those applications using IBPP can be non-visual (CORBA/COM objects,
other libraries of classes and functions, procedural ‘legacy’ code,
for instance). It can of course also be used in visual or RAD
environments. IBPP is indeed purely a dynamic SQL interface to
Firebird. In some easy to use C++ classes, you will find nearly all
what is needed to access a Firebird database, and manipulate the data.
IBPP also offers access to most of the administrations tasks: creating
a database, modifying its structure, performing online backups,
administering user accounts on the server and so on.

Regards,
David

Could you please remove the openssl097 source package from unstable? We

There currently still are a few packages that depend on the libssl0.9.7

Bug#422700: aptitude: Can't lock list directory, after manual removal of lockfiles

I have since rebooted the system, though I'm fairly sure there weren't
any other apt or dpkg processes running when I had my problem.

Unfortunately, I needed to install some packages as a matter of some
urgency, so ran apt-get dist-upgrade which seems to have fixed the
problem with aptitude. However, it means it may be difficult to track
down this particular bug!

Hi,

The eject command form the eject package and the eject action from the
Gnome contextual menu both works.

I don't know if the best solution is to call eject(1) or include its
source code inside pommed.

Fixed in the current SVN trunk, if you'd like to give it a try :)

Bug#423386: mirror submission for ftp.ifg.gtu.ge

2007-05-12 Thread Simon Paillard
Hello Henri-Pierre,

Thanks for this mirror submission.
There are a few details to fix before we can add your mirror to the list.

To simplify the tracking of mirrors' quality, we advise that the local
trace file has the same name as the site name, here ftp.ifg.gtu.ge
ftp://ftp.ifg.gtu.ge/debian/project/trace/www.ifg.gtu.ge
Delete this old trace file, it will be recreated with the new name later.

The date written in the local trace file must be written with LANG=C and
in the UTC timezone.

Type: leaf
Archive-ftp: /debian/

So, it seems you don't use the up to date recommended script
http://debian.org/mirrors/anonftpsync
Please switch to anonftpsync, that will solve a lot of issues.

This script has the advantage to do all the sync stuff in an almost
atomic way and generates trace files (like exluding Contents-$arch* for
architectures you don't provide).

* You should delete them by hand under ftp://ftp.ifg.gtu.ge/debian/dists/ :
for arch in alpha hppa ia64 m68k mips mipsel powerpc s390 sparc
do find /path/debian/dists/. -name *$arch* -exec rm -r {} \;
done

* Source files (*.tar.gz, *.dsc *.diff.gz) must not be excluded :
For example, there are no up to date source files in
ftp://ftp.ifg.gtu.ge/debian/pool/main/b/base-files/

Old-ftp: /debian/
Security-ftp: /debian/

No security nore old archive here.

Mirrors-from: debian.proxad.net

I will replace by ftp.fr.debian.org, pointing the sitename is easier
than to one of the aliases. Could you please do the same in your sync
script ?

Bug#423511: ITP: goattracker

2007-05-12 Thread Gürkan Sengün
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: goattracker
Version : 2.61
Upstream Author : Lasse Öörni
 * URL : http://covertbitops.c64.org/
 * License : GNU GPL
Description : C64 music editor
This is a crossplatform C64 music editor. Supports emulated output via Dag
Lem's reSID engine, the HardSID soundcard or CatWeasel MK3.
.
It supports emulated output via the software reSID engine, the HardSID
soundcard, or the Catweasel (MK3/MK4) controller card, and produces songs in
its own format (*.SNG). The program can also export tunes in SID format, BIN
format, or Commodore PRG format for inclusion on a floppy you can stick into
a 1541/1571/1581 drive.
.
Like most tracker programs, the program is able to import instrument files,
create and modify track patterns, set the order of playback of patterns and
change details of the song such as the title and author. If you are familiar
with tracker-like programs, then GoatTracker will feel like a simple version
of those, though with differences attributable to the hardware. People new to
composing in general should look up other information on composing on the
C64.

Bug#406830: libvte4: opening new tab in maximized gnome/xfce-terminal with hotkey does

2007-05-12 Thread Michal Matyska

Hi,

unfortunatelly I'm still geetting the prompt issue.

Using Xfce4 as desktop manager, 1280*1024 resolution (might be important as
it behaves differently in full screen mode and maximized or normal size
window mode). Does not depend on the terminal font selected (ok, did not
test all but monospace, sans and serif :). Version of installed packages:
libvte9 0.16.3-1
gnome-terminal 2.18.0-2
xfce4-terminal 0.2.6-1

Gnome-terminal: run in maximized window (menu visiblility does not affect
the issue), press Ctrl-Shift-T, tab switching panel shows, the new tab has
invisible prompt and blinking cursor. Switching tab or wndow forces the
prompt to render. Occurs only for the second tab (e.g. when the tab
switching panel was added). Works correctly when in full screen mode or
normal size window.

Xfce-terminal: run in maximized window (menu nor toolbar visiblility does
not affect the issue), press Ctrl-Shift-T, tab switching panel shows, the
new tab has not render prompt neither cursor. Switching tab or window forces
the prompt and the cursor to render, pressing Enter on the new tab shows
prompt on next line and bottom part (bellow the font baseline) of the first
prompt. Occurs on every next new tab!. Works correctly when in full screen
mode or normal size window.

Michal

click mouse on the menu item, the prompt is shown.

Hi,

I can't reproduce this with gnome-terminal 2.18.0-2 and libvte9

Bug#355967: information about MPIO MP3/OGG Players

2007-05-12 Thread Michael Biebl
Hi Nicolas,

is you problem still valid for hal_0.5.9-3 resp. hal-info_20070425-1?

If so, could you please send me an updated patch:
Copy the original fdi file to 10-usb-music-players.fdi.orig.
Then edit 10-usb-music-players.fdi and finally run
diff -u 10-usb-music-players.fdi.orig 10-usb-music-players.fdi
mpio_player.patch

With a real patch, it's easier to spot the actual relevant part.

Thanks,
Michael
