Bug#452171: smb2www: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review
Quoting Robert Luberda ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): Christian Perrier wrote: Hi, Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any objections, let me know in the next 3 days. The changes are great. However the last sentence of the Description (i.e. It uses Samba libraries.) isn't really true - smb2www calls smbclient which I would named a tool or utility rather than library. I changed this to It uses the Samba smbclient utility. This will appear in the patch I'll send in about 2 weeks, with tranlsation updates for debconf templates signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Quoting Vincent Danjean ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): Package: aptitude Version: 0.4.9-2 Severity: minor Tags: l10n When the new field Homepage: is present, in the french local, aptitude displays: Site :http://... It should be: Site : http:// (ie in French, there is a space before AND after the colon) Actually, there's a space after the colon in all languages..:-) And the English original string has it, so the missing space is clearly an omission by the French translator. Bug#452824: proofgeneral: Please reconsider quering user during install
Quoting Helge Kreutzmann ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): Please reconsider if your install time question is necessary. I don't know proof general (this issue arose during the German debconf translation of your template) so if proof general is indeed special, then simply close this bug (preferably with a brief explanation). Remember that Debian is used at large sites as well, where dispensable install time questions can be a real hassle. The question is asked at medium priority, so on default systems it won't be asked (and proofgeenral will be auto-loaded). I usually fight against useless debconf templates enough but that one didn't really ring a bell in my head. I find it pretty legitimate. One should remember that this question will be asked only for people who explicitely choose to install proofgeneral. So, they're pretty likely to not really worry about one extra question about something they choose to install. The fact that other packages that can be activated either for all users or for specific users only do not offer such choice is not really important: after all, one could also wonder why these packages do not prompt their users for general activation, in an attempt to improve usability. signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#452388: Standard system is confusing
Quoting Manoj Srivastava ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): Description: A minimal, (currently non-graphical) core operating environment This is the subset of Debian installed by default, which can be added upon to provide a more featureful and tailored operating system. I like that one, with three minor glitches: -leading article, which goes against most of the recommendations for synopsis (for instance, in package descritpions) - 'currently' which puts an hypothetical moment where that one could be graphical, which is speculation. Removing it does not really remove information and mat shorten the description enough - adding a comma after 'Debian', as pointed by Praveen That would lead to: Description: Minimal (non-graphical) core operating environment This is the subset of Debian, installed by default, which can be added upon to provide a more featureful and tailored operating system. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#452923: ITP: libgo-perl -- parses all GO files formats and types
-=| Charles Plessy, Mon, Nov 26, 2007 at 02:46:59PM +0900 |=- Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Charles Plessy [EMAIL PROTECTED] Package name: libgo-perl This is a collection of perl code for dealing with Gene Ontologies (GO) and OBO style ontologies. It is part of the `go-dev' distribution, but this Debian package is made from the CPAN archive. This package contains both scripts (which can be used with no knowledge of perl), and libraries which will be of use to perl programmers using GO or OBO. (OBO is a format for defining ontologies, but I did not manage to find the exact meaning of the acronym yet…) I am unsure if a libfoo-perl package can provide scripts? (CC'ed debian-perl). This library is necessary for the GFF3 validator, for which I will issue an ITP soon. I will use CPAN as the source, because the `go-dev' distribution is a beast whose source is 40 Mio, and I will not have time to package it. Scripts are fine, especially when you actually want the modules provided by the package. If the scripts are huge, using a separate binary package for them could be a good idea. If they are small, include them within the same binary package. -- damJabberID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#452925: openoffice.org-core: path to sun java plugin is wrong
tag 452925 + moreinfo thanks Hi, Norbert Preining wrote: When going into Tools-Options-Java I see 2 JRE installed: o Sun Microsystems Inc. 1.6.0_03 o Free Software Foundation 1.5.0 but none is selected. Furthermore, if I select one of them, click OK, and Hmm. The problem is that the path seems to be wrong: How? When starting oowriter I get javaldx failed! and when I call Export and select tex (LaTeX2e) I get a warning window stating that I don't have a usable JRE installed. At the sametime I get on the command line: [Java framework]sunjavaplugin.so could not load Java runtime library: file:///usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.06/jre/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so. Did you select Sun Java 5 once? That's The path where it once was (as it was .06) But this file does not exists, it should be /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.03/jre/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so or MUCH better /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so 1.5 != 1.6 :) I checked that creating a symbolic link /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.06 - java-6-sun did fix the problem. I don't believe this is a sane solution. That said, I can't reproduce this with what will become 2.3.1-1 soon, though (but there shouldn't be any changes affecting this, though). It recognizes all 3 JREs and I can choose Sun Java 5 and Sun Java 6 with their correct paths (OOo not complaining afterwards). Torsten, Martin, how come both of you DDs missed that? Anyway, Torsten, do not hesitate to ping me as your devoted co-maintainer to double-check the package beforehand. :] We are aware of this problem. While he uploaded the package, Torsten said Note that this package has a (harmless) lintian error which has been there for a long time and will be fixed together with upstream's next major release. We should ignore that for the current version. On a side note, I think that it would be wise to switch from debhelper to cdbs for a package as complex as scilab. Yep, we will do that but this should be considered for the version 5.0 of Scilab since pretty much everything has changed in the compilation process of Scilab. Bug#452931: linux-image-2.6.18-5-686: too much memory for EXT3 inode-cache in slab
Package: linux-image-2.6.18-5-686 Version: 2.6.18.dfsg.1-13etch4 Severity: important On two very different systems (a desktop system and one running a database application) running debian kernel 2.6.18-5 I'm observing the following behaviour: System accumulates *large* amounts of slab-memory in EXT3 Inode-Cache, example-output from the command slabtop: Active / Total Objects (% used): 1559187 / 1578880 (98.8%) Active / Total Slabs (% used) : 135874 / 135878 (100.0%) Active / Total Caches (% used) : 94 / 140 (67.1%) Active / Total Size (% used) : 529040.32K / 531151.94K (99.6%) Minimum / Average / Maximum Object : 0.01K / 0.34K / 128.00K OBJS ACTIVE USE OBJ SIZE SLABS OBJ/SLAB CACHE SIZE NAME 907400 905957 99%0.49K 1134258453700K ext3_inode_cache 565964 565089 99%0.13K 19516 29 78064K dentry_cache 62064 56390 90%0.05K862 72 3448K buffer_head 7756 7752 99%0.27K554 14 2216K radix_tree_node 6313 2673 42%0.06K107 59 428K size-64 As you can see, this system has accumulated more that 400MB of Slab-Memory (on a system with 1GB of memory, i.e. half of the whole memory of the system just for caching inodes!). Bug#452444: honor ip=
El Thursday 22 November 2007 23:50:18 Daniel Baumann va escriure: Anton Lundin wrote: the live script doesn't care about ip= parameters like which interface to do dhcp on and so on so this patch adds code to do this. you probably forgot to attach the patch. Its not nice and should probably be abstracted to a separate fuction to run in all the diffrent cases, and not just the nfs-root case. actually, initramfs-tools should be refactured for this, in order to let the different initramfs-tools hooks (like live-initramfs) use it and share the code, rather than to implement/copy the same code again. anyone got spare time to look into the issue? Hello list, yes, I was thinking in populating the file /live.vars already that is lightly used but moving it to /etc/live.vars that file could become part of the live-initramfs package and of the live-helpers package also, live-helpers can populate that with initial values and at start of the LiveOS, live-initramfs scripts can modify or add options. After, the hooks can import /etc/live.vars to get all the options converted into variables. Observe: the procedure really_export () actually is used, but that have not a wide use /etc/live.vars will not contain export sentences, only variable assignments, example: DEBUG=Yes HOSTNAME=pcdebianlive and every option in the live-initramfs procedures will be written to this file. really_export () { local STRING=${1} local VALUE=$(eval echo -n \${$STRING}) set_option /etc/live.vars ${STRING} ${VALUE} eval export ${STRING}=${VALUE} } set_option () { local filename=${1} local option=${2} local value=${3} if grep ^${option}= ${filename} /dev/null then sed -i -e s/^${option}=.*/${option}=${value}/ ${filename} else echo ${option}=${value} ${filename} fi } at the end, the live script will move the file /etc/live.vars to /root/etc/live.vars then also the procedures in /etc/init.d/* could import that. Some observations about ? Best regards, Jordi Pujol -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#452933: arcboot: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update
Package: arcboot Version: N/A Severity: wishlist Tags: patch l10n Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors. If you do not already use it, you might consider using the podebconf-report-po utility, which helps warning translators about changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages. The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA process which requires time). podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-) Example use (from your package build tree): $ podebconf-report-po This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a mail to send to these translators (you can also use the --languageteam switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in Language-Team field). You can also use this utility to request for new translations: $ podebconf-report-po --call This will send a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with all the needed information and material for new translators to add new languages to your supported languages. If you apply this policy, please forget about these remarks, of courseThis message is generic..:-) -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-3-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash # Translation of arcboot debconf templates to French # Copyright (C) 2007 Christian Perrier [EMAIL PROTECTED] # This file is distributed under the same license as the arcboot package. # # Christian Perrier [EMAIL PROTECTED], 2007. msgid msgstr Project-Id-Version: arcboot (0.3.6)\n Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: Source: [EMAIL PROTECTED] POT-Creation-Date: 2007-11-26 08:14+\n PO-Revision-Date: 2003-08-05 09:41+0100\n Last-Translator: Christian Perrier [EMAIL PROTECTED]\n Language-Team: French [EMAIL PROTECTED]\n MIME-Version: 1.0\n Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8\n Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n #. Probaly I did, but I cannot guarantee. or MUCH better /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so 1.5 != 1.6 :) Yes I know, but what does this tell me? I checked that creating a symbolic link /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.06 - java-6-sun did fix the problem. I don't believe this is a sane solution. I agree, too, but I wanted to get it running now ;-) What version is openoffice.org-java-common itself? 1:2.3.0.dfsg-3 does it help wehn you remove javasettings_x86.xml from your profile and start over? I tried something different: I selected Tools-Options-Java Add... and navigated to the new path of java-6-sun. Now it is selected and it does work again (even without the symlink hack I did before). Should I try again with removing the javasettings_x86.xml? I assume that somehow the old path ended in javasettings_x86.xml (because I selected it once), but didn't get updated. The problem is not the initrd being loaded into that space, the problem is that current tip22 wouldwaste completely waste the segment markes as (2) with the current setup and since we tip22 (in contrast to arcboot and arcload) needs ram for the tftpimage (which contains the kernel) + the kernel + the initrd it rather not simply waste that space. Arcboot and arcload don't have the tftimage, they fetch the kernel and the initrd from disk and thus need much less RAM. Bug#452940: adjust panic-action to know the difference between Debian and Ubuntu
Package: samba Version: 3.0.27a-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch User: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Usertags: origin-ubuntu ubuntu-patch hardy The Debian Samba package includes a panic-action script which sends emails telling users to report bugs to the Debian BTS. The Ubuntu Samba package modifies this script, which is good because Ubuntu bugs should be reported to Ubuntu, and bad because we want to share the packaging between Debian and Ubuntu to make the best use of everyone's time. Bug#452942: libpam-gnome-keyring: gdm does not use libpam-gnome-keyring by default
Package: libpam-gnome-keyring Version: 2.20.2-1 Severity: normal In /usr/share/doc/libpam-gnome-keyring/README.Debian, we can read : = The default PAM configuration for GDM and gnome-screensaver already uses pam_gnome_keyring. = It does not seem the case on my system. I have just installed libpam-gnome-keyring and *purged* libpam-keyring. Doing so, I also removed in /etc/pam.d/gdm two lines : authoptionalpam_keyring.so @include common-pamkeyring I do not remember if these two lines have been automatically or manually added (I started to use pam_keyring before automatic configuration was ready) Nevertheless, /etc/pam.d/common-pamkeyring was a file provided by libpam-keyring (and not libpam-gnome-keyring) and /etc/pam.d/gdm is the one the gdm package and I need to give my keyring password after my login. Adding to /etc/pam.d/gdm the two following lines solves the problem: authoptionalpam_gnome_keyring.so session optionalpam_gnome_keyring.so auto_start So default PAM configuration for GDM does not use pam_gnome_keyring. Bug#452727: Unable to switch to a language if you don't have the locale installed
tag 452727 + wontfix * Emilio Pozuelo Monfort [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2007-11-24 20:16:38 CET]: If you try to change the language in wesnoth and don't have the locale, it will do nothing, printing this warning in the terminal: WARNING: setlocale() failed for es_ES. Building with --enable-dummy-locales and installing them fixes this. Yes - but using that hack only enables it for wesnoth; which is a bad thing IMHO. If someone really wants to use a language one shouldn't be lured into well, then I only have it in this or that application but rather should properly enable it in the system. I've talked with upstream about this a while ago and we thought about another approach: The languages that aren't enabled in the system will get greyed out and not selectable. This though needs a bit until it gets implemented. I did this in Ubuntu [1] [2] and it worked fine, there have been no reports about anything broken or something. It works fine - for wesnoth only. I am not really convinced that enabling this hack in the wesnoth package is the right approach, I am pretty much for telling the users to enable the locales they want to use systemwide, not narrow themself down to a single application. If this is harmless it would be nice to enable it, since there are users which will want to play wesnoth in a different language than the one they installed the system (this happened to me when trying to play in Spanish, since my system is in English). There is no problem at all with enabling spanish locales next to english ones, too. Thanks for your report anyway, it's appreciated. It's just - in this point we propably disagree. But don't let this hold you back with further reports along these lines. So long, Rhonda -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#428329: [Pkg-cryptsetup-devel] Bug#428329: Bug in debian-Installer/initramfs when I use GUID Partition Table (GPT) with a crypted root filesystem

This all happens because the rootfs is not mounted at all. So the question here is, what exactly tries (and fails) to mount /dev/root? I guess that some configuration script at installation simply ignored the fact that the rootfs is encrypted, and instead of the dm-crypt root device (like /dev/mapper/root) added /dev/root to /etc/fstab. David, you have better knowledge of the whole installation process, what do you think about that? I haven't used lilo for years on any machine that I admin but it sounds like the lilo stage of debian-installer got the root device wrong (and passes root=/dev/root to the kernel or something like that). Please provide the contents of /proc/cmdline using the initramfs shell. Also, when in the initramfs shell, you might be able to do something like symlink /dev/root to /dev/mapper/whatever_the_real_root_is_called and then type exit which will try to resume the boot. If that works, you should be able to inspect the contents of the lilo config file. -- David Härdeman -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#452938: tzdata: Upgrading changes timezone
Package: tzdata Version: 2007i-2 Severity: normal I have just upgraded my system to current sid and suffer from the same problem. Here is a precise description of my actions: My laptop had a correct local time (I often look at the gnome applet...) This morning, I upgraded it. There was lots of new software (libc, kernel (from http://kernel-archive.buildserver.net/debian-kernel), ...) so I reboot it immediately after the upgrade. This means I did not keep the log. And I do not know if the time was correct or not after the upgrade and before the reboot. After the reboot, I notice that gnome applet give me the wrong time (UTC instead of local). With the command 'date', I saw I was in UTC I tried the following : [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure tzdata Current default timezone: 'Etc/UTC' Local time is now: Mon Nov 26 09:18:29 UTC 2007. Universal Time is now: Mon Nov 26 09:18:29 UTC 2007. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure tzdata Current default timezone: 'Europe/Paris' Local time is now: Mon Nov 26 10:18:36 CET 2007. Universal Time is now: Mon Nov 26 09:18:36 UTC 2007. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ date lundi 26 novembre 2007, 10:18:44 (UTC+0100) Note: the first time I run 'dpkg-reconfigure tzdata', I only type 'enter'. So debconf had register 'Etc/UTC'. I do not know from where. The second time, I manually select the Europe Areas. And then, Paris has been automatically pre-selected. At time moment, the command 'date' give me the correct (local) time. About 1 min later, without doing anything, the gnome applet correct itself and shows me the correct (local) time. So, I'm pretty sure that the upgrade of this morning (from 2007i-1 to 2007i-2) according to /var/log/dpkg.log modifies my /etc/timezone. I tried to reproduce this bug on another machine (Europe/Paris too) by upgrading tzdata (from 2007i-1 to 2007i-2 too), keeping the original config files (/etc/timezone, /var/cache/debconf/config.dat). However, the upgrade has been fine. I kept the Europe/Paris timezone... Bug#452959: xserver-xorg-core 1.4.1 introduces two new displaying errors
Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 2:1.4.1~git20071119-1 Hi, since the upgrade from 2:1.4-3 my iceweasel has two nice displaying errors: - the tab-close button of the active tab is one pixel too high after moving the mouse over it (http://files.die-welt.net/2007-11-25-223855_1024x768_scrot.png) - the upper half of the fonts in the content is shifted one pixel to the right (or left) The first one occurs always, the second one only randomly (this is why I do not have a screenshot at the moment). Regards Evgeni PS: I use the latest xserver-xorg-video-ati from experimental, but the problem also occurs with the version in unstable and the latest git. pgprGZRvyhXCZ.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#452957: Claims to understand zip files?
Package: wine Version: 0.9.44-1 Severity: normal I have no GUI zip programs (e.g. file-roller) installed. Now, when I click on a .zip file in epiphany, it is downloaded to ~/Desktop/Downloads and then opened with wine! That is, it appears epiphany is doing wine ~/Desktop/Downloads/foo.zip Which is obviously totally wrong, and thoroughly confuses wine. Bug#452909: hal: there is big regressions about the pmu support
On Mon, Nov 26, 2007 at 01:49:49AM +0100, Matthieu Gallien wrote: Package: hal Version: 0.5.10-2 Severity: normal Due to the last upload of hal, there is regression in the support of pmu. None of them seems complicated to fix as I was able to find workarounds without prior knowledge of hal and dbus stuff.. The symptom was that I was no longer able to suspend to ram using kpowersave. I used qdbusviewer to interacts with hald and also executed hals in a console. I found that /usr/lib/hal/hal-system-power-pm-is-supported reports to hal that my computer cannot suspend to ram. This is wrong. Since the regression, I was able to suspend my computer using: /usr/lib/hal/hal-system-power-pmu sleep Hmm, do we still ship hal-system-power-pmu, we shouldn't. But that's another bug :) I believe that /usr/lib/hal/hal-system-power-pm-is-supported should be fixed to at least say yes when an hal helper is able to do the job. Second problem, /usr/lib/hal/scripts/linux/hal-system-power-suspend-linux is not able to suspend to ram my computer. There the problem is that hal apparently only supports pm-utils. Again, adding those some lines solved the problem: What needs to be fixed is pm-utils to properly support suspend on PMU machines. As soon as this is fixed, hal will automagically start working again. I'd rather spend my time fixing pm-utils then adding workarounds in hal to hid problems :) I just haven't come around to actually fixing pm-utils yet.
