Actually there is a swedish translation by Martin Agren (I guess that

is up to date. Should we really replace it by your version?

Thanks,

Bug#491938: Patch for the 0.2a-3.1 NMU of bindgraph

2008-10-25 Thread Christian Perrier
Quoting Christian Perrier ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):

OK. Do you have time to upload before my NMU enters the archive or
would you profer some time and then I remove my upload to DELAYED.

If you upload today, my NMU will then just be REJECTed when it reaches
0-day...but of course, you might be too busy for that and need more
 time. Just let me know.

Hmmm, well, I forgot to remove the package from the DELAYED queue and
I'm afraid it finally got uploaded. Sorry for this.

I'll ask for unblock so that it enters testing.

The file /tmp/elc_cdQaPI.log is in attachement.

The relevant message in that file seems to be this one:

 In toplevel form:
 silly-mail.el:86:1:Error: /usr/bin/mail is not executable

That is the same problem as in #502762, triggered by a Debian-specific
patch that lets sendmail.el throw an error if neither sendmail nor
/usr/bin/mail can be found, first reported and discussed in #429059.
Since a sensible solution had already been proposed in #429059, I'm
inclined to throw all these bugs together and assign them to the emacs22
package.

Opinions?

Sorry, I can't reproduce this bug. I can easily edit/move *.meta files
on my system. I guess there is some problem with the permissions on
your system. Could you please try to reproduce this again?

Hi Varun,

It still seems to be broken on my system. Here is a little more verbose
description of the situation for you:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/flickrfs/sets/ Hanoi$ cp .traffic_2.jpg.meta ~/test.meta
cp: cannot open `.traffic_2.jpg.meta' for reading: Invalid argument
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/flickrfs/sets/ Hanoi$ ll .traffic_*
-rw-r--r-- 1 ckoen ckoen 0 2008-10-25 14:35 .traffic_1.jpg.meta
-rw-r--r-- 1 ckoen ckoen 0 2008-10-25 14:35 .traffic_2.jpg.meta
-rw-r--r-- 1 ckoen ckoen 0 2008-10-25 14:35 .traffic_3.jpg.meta
-rw-r--r-- 1 ckoen ckoen 0 2008-10-25 14:35 .traffic_4.jpg.meta
-rw-r--r-- 1 ckoen ckoen 0 2008-10-25 14:35 .traffic_5.jpg.meta

If I try to rename that Hanoi directory to get rid of the leading
space, it just ignores me and does not even bother with an error
message.

If I try to cp a local file into a different directory on flickr, I
also get an error:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/flickrfs/sets/Thailand$ cp ~/tempphoto/hangzhouhead.jpg .
cp: writing `./hangzhouhead.jpg': Input/output error

Bug#503337: Bug present in unstable but not in testing

2008-10-25 Thread Christian Perrier
From what I read in the bug log and what I remember from the history
of uswsusp, this RC bug is *not* present in testing.

Testing has a 0.7-1.2 version which does not have the config change
described by Tim Dijkstra in the bug log.

As a consequence, I think we can safely decide that the following
should be sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

notfound 503337 0.7-1.2

thanks

This way, the bug should no longer be listed in the list of RC

Bug#455325: wicd, are you going to be the maintainer?

2008-10-25 Thread Stephen Birch
Hi David

I noticed that wicd has been uploaded to debian now. Is it your
intention to be the maintainer from this point forward?

My own availability is a little limited so I am very happy it has found a
maintainer. Do I need to do anything to help?

If it is not your intention to be the maintainer, let me know and I'll
push it up my priority stack.

Remove packages providing mail-transport-agent and mailx from the chroot

happen in new installs, provided that neither /usr/sbin/sendmail nor

Thanks for the description. Would this be related to #502762, which

Yes, I have already written a follow-up¹ to #503340, sorry that I forgot

Is it possible to reproduce the bug over and over again (i.e: install

Please provide more information. Unfortunately I'm unable to reproduce

I think the problem lies in HAL. When I keep the device activated it
works fine, but if I use my hotkey (Fn+F2) the device refuses to reload,
dmesg reports that the device didn't respond properly and couldn't be
 loaded.

So did you test whether removing cryptsetup fixes the bug? Or does it

ist installed or not? Please try to apt-get remove cryptsetup and make

On the other hand the functionality of your hotkey should not depend

the boot process.

I feel that I put this bug in the wrong place, I'll bring it up with
madwifi when I get the chance, I'm sorry for wasting your time.

No problem, better to report it against the wrong package than not to
report it at all. Please try to debug it further to find out which
package it belongs to.

For now I simply lowered the severity to normal as we're in the last
phase of lenny release process, and release-critical bugs delay the
release even more.

If you're confident that this bug is release-critical and thus needs to
be fixed for lenny, you'll have to do further debugging, reasign it to
the correct package, append more information about how to reproduce it
and then raise the severity again.

The debian bug report in question is:
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=415996

I checked and the old patch still applies cleanly (well, with an offset, but
no fuzz). I applied it and then did an svn diff, the result of which is
attached. (As with all svn diffs, it applies with patch -p0 -i blah.patch)

It's actually a very simple patch, which does this:

  A) Teach qemu-$TARGET to do a chdir() plus chroot() in response to a -chroot
  command line option.

  B) Because A) requires root access, teach qemu-$TARGET to change uid and gid
via a -su option (and set both the real and effective user IDs so it's
  actually dropping priviledges).

Because the UID change happens at argument parse stage, doesn't the
chrooting fail if the -su option is specified in the command line
before -chroot?

Hi,

I just hit this bug last week (I'm running Sid), and after reading
through all of this, I regressed this package to the version in etch.
This didn't cause any other apparent problems with other packages, and
the DVDs written were then readable under Windows.

Is it worth simply regressing this package for the lenny release or are
a lot of other issues dependant on the new version?

Thanks,

Since a sensible solution had already been proposed in #429059, I'm

Bug#503345: locale= mount option, hal and ntfs-3g

2008-10-25 Thread Adam Cécile (Le_Vert)

Hello Michael,

Go ahead with a NMU. It'll be faster and I really think this bug should
be fixed asap.

Thanks for having a look and fixing this issue !

Adam.

Michael Biebl a écrit :

Package: ntfs-3g
Version: 1:1.2531-1
Severity: important

Hi Adam,

I'm part of the Debian pkg-utopia team which maintains hal.

A recent bug report [1] against hal, brought to our attention, that mounting
ntfs volumes from within KDE is broken, so potentially quite a few users are
affected.

You can read the details on the bug report [1] or at the discussion I started
on the hal mailing list [2].

In short, it's about hal offering the locale= option for ntfs file systems,
while the kernel fs driver does not support the locale= option.

There are attempts to fix this in a more sophisticated way withing hal, which
will also require updates to the mount tools of KDE and GNOME, but this
is not doable for lenny.

A proposed short term solution, is to remove the locale= option from
/usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/20-storage-methods.fdi
and make the ntfs-3g package ship a fdi file, which adds the locale= option back
and overrides the fstype to be ntfs-3g, i.e. if ntfs-3g is installed, hal will
always use ntfs-3g when mounting ntfs volumes, which imo is an acceptable
compromise and I'd like to get this fix into lenny.

This requires, that the ntfs-3g package installs a file, like the one
I've attached, to /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/

As soon as you have updated the ntfs-3g to include this file, I'd upload an
updated hal version, which removes the locale= option from
20-storage-methods.fdi and ask for freeze exceptions for lenny for both hal and
ntfs-3g.

If you are too busy, I'd offer to NMU ntfs-3g, if you grant me the permission to
do it.

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#500020: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the cacti-spine package

2008-10-25 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear maintainer of cacti-spine and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the cacti-spine Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in two
weeks, so I will proceed with the NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs de es eu fr nl pt pt2 pt_BR ru sv vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: cs es nl pt_BR

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the cacti-spine package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Friday, October 31,
2008. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Friday, October 24, 2008 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Saturday, October 25, 2008 : send this notice
Friday, October 31, 2008 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation
updates
Saturday, November 01, 2008 : build the package and upload it to
DELAYED/2-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Monday, November 03, 2008 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

new stuff for me but using msginit -i daptup.po -o sv.po -l sv_SE ended me

Bug#503370: freevo: Missing source encoding declaration in debconf.py

2008-10-25 Thread Florian Hatat
Package: freevo
Version: 1.8.1-2
Severity: important
Tags: l10n

The generated /etc/freevo/debconf.py doesn't have any source encoding
declaration: this becomes an issue when
Freevo is installed in a French environment, since debconf.py will contain some
non-ascii accents in the VIDEO_ITEMS,
AUDIO_ITEMS and IMAGE_ITEMS lines.

Python 2.5 doesn't accept debconf.py as a valid input any more, which prevents
Freevo from starting at all.

The bug was quite tricky to track down, since running freevo --trace start
just returns, without any error message.

Adding the line:

# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-

at the top of the generated debconf.py made my Freevo happy. (Well almost,
Freevo now starts, but the accents in the
directory labels are not properly displayed).

Yes. The other change is a clean-up for rare cases and if there is some
supported shell that does not support ${var%pattern} and ${var#pattern}
substitutions, than I guess there's nothing that can be done with that case.

So I think it can be closed when the change accepted upstream hits debian.

Agree. (as it was on my TODO list ;)

My primary implementation idea was to make the folders owned by the
group staff (like /usr/local). Would that fit your need ?

I wonder why you defined DI_NETBOOT_ASSISTANT_CONFIG. Do you need to be
able to use multiple configuration dir ? or would it be fine to use
~/.di-netboot-assistant.conf (then fall back to /etc/... )

Thank you for your contribution.

Hi Sven,

thank you for reporting this bug.

Both programs are intended for command line, and could be used in
scripts. We may even find users who want to install both at the same
time. Very annoying…

Since Plink is younger than Putty, I think that the burden of the
renaming is for us (the Debian Med packaging team). I plan to rename
/usr/bin/plink to /usr/bin/Plink, that would be a symbolic link to
/usr/lib/plink/plink so that with an appropriate PATH, users can rescue
their scripts.

But before doing so, I would like to ask the readers of debian-devel:

  - if it is not a bad idea to have to programs whose name only differs by
case (do we support file systems à la Macintosh?),
  - if they have a better idea in general.

Have a nice day.

(By the way, are you interested in genetics ?)

Bug#501125: Japanese IM?

2008-10-25 Thread Modestas Vainius
Hello,

 https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Japanese_Input_and_Fonts_in_Ubuntu_7.10
Now I uninstalled all the relevant packages and reinstalled them.

but I'm experiencing the same problem after
upgrading to Ubuntu Intrepid, qt4 version 4.4.3-0ubuntu1.

I suspect some Ubuntu customization is to blame.
I'm not sure that you are using Debian given what you have said so far in this
bug report (quoted above). As you see from the version number, Ubuntu is not
even basing their qt4-x11 packaging on Debian's 4.4.3-1. Please clarify what
and which package versions you are using.

 The
reinstallation put back libuiminputcontextplugin.so and caused the QT apps
to fail again. Removing libuiminputcontextplugin.so again allowed QT apps
 to run again.

To add insult to injury, the Japanese IM doesn't actually work anymore.
That's pretty much expected. I think Japanese IM client relies on
libuiminputcontextplugin.so and you got it removed, so it does not work.

Even without applying this patch, I was not able to reproduce the
problem with the current version in sid.

You need a connexion loss at the moment of the move to reproduce the
issue. Upstream was able to reproduce the bug with 2.20 and nothing
relevant has changed since that moment, so I think it is still here.

Bug#464373: [linux-2.6] Not sufficient ?

2008-10-25 Thread Didier Raboud
Hi,

I'm using uswsusp for supsending and I noticed the following :

* When waking up with the wifi kill button on (to get WiFi working), the card
is
correctly powered on and the connection will work (modulo some other
problems, ..)

* When waking up with the wifi kill button off (after having been in places
where no WiFi is accessible or useful), if I power the card afterwards, it
won't power up and I have to ifdown/ifup to get the card working.

I'm not using ifplugd or anything like this. My /etc/network/interfaces :

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet manual
pre-up ip link set wlan0 up
wpa-driver wext
wpa-roam/etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_roaming.conf

iface default inet dhcp

Please ask for more info if needed...

Bug #461308 will not be ready for action before squeeze, but I don't
think we should add recommends and depends on that now, in particular
Charles, if you don't know how to properly fix it yourself, please at
least let others have a look, say until the weekend.

Hi all,

I prepared a NMU, that I propose to upload on DELAYED/10. Unless the
release is to happen in 20 days, it will ensure long time for the
maintainer to react, for hackers to solve the problem more smartly, and
for users to test the package.

While reviewing the BTS page of inkscape, I found two other bugs that
can be resolved by the addition of dependancies, in that case of the
Suggests level. For one of them, it is also necessary to include a
patch to take into acount the renaming of the uniconv program in
Debian. This patch is present in Ubuntu and does not seem to be
problematic. Lastly, I fixed the menu entry.

I attached the debdiff. As you can see, it is inflated by two
Autoconf/make files:

aqwa『tmp』$ lsdiff inkscape_0.46-2.1_0.46.2.2_debdiff.txt
inkscape-0.46/configure
inkscape-0.46/debian/inkscape.menu
inkscape-0.46/debian/control
inkscape-0.46/debian/changelog
inkscape-0.46/aclocal.m4
inkscape-0.46/debian/patches/02_uniconvertor_binary_name.dpatch

Have a nice day,

Bug#503040: debian-installer: Build firmware for the DNS-323

As you noted, I added minix-modules for in the oldsys-preseed patch (since
that's where the need for the minix modules is added, technically speaking),
but you've reminded me of something I wanted to ask about anyway: arm vs
armel. I've only added DNS-323 build support for armel, and not arm; should
I duplicate the patch for the arm architecture as well?

DNS-323 support is too late for lenny and we will drop arm after
lenny, so I think it should only be applied for armel (as you did).

In the meantime, updated patch as per your suggestions is attached.

Thanks, it looks good to me. I'll apply it after lenny.

Bug#501125: 1.5.1 is incompatible with Qt 4.4.3

found 501125 1:1.5.1-2
fixed 501125 1:1.5.3-1

Hello,

I was able to reproduce the bug uim-qt 1.5.1-2 (currently in lenny). I have
also tried to rebuild uim-qt 1.5.1-2 against current lenny (i.e. against Qt
4.4.3), but that didn't make the bug to go away. However, I can confirm that
uim-qt 1.5.3 is compatible with Qt 4.4.3. That's not suprising because
according to uim source NEWS file:

-
Overview of changes from 1.5.2 to 1.5.3
===
* Fixes
  - Qt4 bridge (experimental)
* [CRITICAL] Fix bug with Qt4 = 4.4.1, which makes applications
  infinite loop at the startup
* [CRITICAL] Fix uim-helper handling which could cause unexpected crashes
* Fix key press with shift, control, alt, and meta keys
-

So fixes could be backported or 1.5.3 simply unblocked. However, if you choose
the latter way, you might want to do binNMU first as uim-qt 1.5.3-1 was build
against Qt 4.4.2-2 which had wrong (too loose) shlibs.

The only remaining question is what default IP the firmware uses, but
iirc it simply does DHCP. So we should choose some common IP address.
You chose 192.168.0.32 but maybe something in the 192.168.1. range
 would be better.

192.168.0.32 is what's in the manual for the DNS-323. I'm torn between
having a Debian default and sticking with the device's default. The
former means we can give users a default in the docs, but since the device
will have something hard-coded most of the time, it'll default to that
instead so we'll *still* need to tell users to check their manual. As a
result, I think that defaulting to the device's default IP is the correct
choice.

Bug#502821: Enhances oldsys-preseed patch for the DNS-323

2008-10-25 Thread Martin Michlmayr
* Matt Palmer [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2008-10-24 22:02]:
A better patch, based on Martin Michlmayr's feedback, is attached. Enjoy!

Looks good, thanks. I'll apply it after lenny.

The only remaining question is what default IP the firmware uses, but
iirc it simply does DHCP. So we should choose some common IP address.
You chose 192.168.0.32 but maybe something in the 192.168.1. range
would be better.

Bug#503371: grass GUI fails to startup if launched outside a terminal

2008-10-25 Thread Stefano Costa
Package: grass
Version: 6.2.3-2.1
Severity: important

If I start GRASS from gnome-terminal, it starts without any problem.

But when I try to start it from the GNOME GUI (e.g. using a launcher)
I can only get the startup dialog and choose the location.

After that, the Slesia map splash screen shows up and then... GRASS
exits. That's all.

I'm baffled because usually I would start the program from a terminal
to see what's wrong, but if run from a terminal everything goes fine.

Please give me instructions on how to collect the proper information.

Best,
Steko

I don't think so. Wouldn't that break if the user sets PYTHONPATH
 manually?

It shouldn't be necessary, either. I just tested installing new local
modules in a virtualenv using activate, and was able to use both
 easy_install and python setup.py install.

Were you having problems installing local modules before?

My mistake. I moved the environment and didn't realise that the problem
I've been having stems from having the old absolute path inside
bin/activate and not from not having PYTHONPATH.

So the proper solution [for me] would be to look at $0 and pwd and figure
out the root dir of the virtualenv from there.

(I like to be able to move/copy around the virtualenv to organize my
projects.)

Bug#502761: I suggest removing the call to emacspeakconfig and add a mention in README.Debian

2008-10-25 Thread Christian Perrier
tags 502761 patch
thanks

Introducing debconf support in a package that doesn't use it already
is IO too invasive and risking breakage.

So, I recommend simply commenting the call to emacspeakconfig in
postinst as of now so that this package can be released for lenny.

A patch is attached.

I plan to build an NMU unless the maintainer is OK to upload
himself...or find another solution (but, again, hasty debconf
introduction would seem too risky for me) ?

My system do not have a /dev/cdrom any more (udev-based system) and I
guess many other users will be in the same situation. So this bug
probably renders the package unusable for most users.
IMO the package could well be removed from Debian, there are working
alternatives available (e.g. jack, ripit) and there hasn't been any
activity from Sebastien J. Gross within 3 years while some bugs where

Hi,

I was “assigned” the RC bug as part of BugSprint

there was a solution back in july, which was implemented in slashy

What is the current status of the bug, and what are the conclusions? It
seems some info went on private mails, could they be published so one
can work on the issue?

Re: Roland Rosenfeld 2008-10-22 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I fear that the problem is triggered by a very long living SSL
certificate, which expires on 11.12.2054 (I know that this doesn't
make sense, but it's an internal appliance, where the vendor issued
 the certificate).

confirmed. The patch below fixes the issue. The problem is that
tm-data will have two more digits if the year is out of a certain
range (I guess 1950..2050).

I'll try to get the fix into lenny.

Bug#449497: foo2zjs: application depends on non-free firmware

2008-10-25 Thread Joost Yervante Damad
Hello,

README.Debian of foo2zjs provides the following text:

cut
foo2zjs for Debian
---

Please understand that I had to delete some files which the author is
still providing, because I got no source code for them.
This is necessary to get the package into Debian main.
If you really need these programs, please freel free to download
them from http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/foo2zjs.tar.gz on your own risk.
In addition to that I also deleted all binary files (.e.g. .icm).
(Type wget http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/foo2zjs.tar.gz;).
Then run the following commands:

tar -xvvzf foo2zjs.tar.gz
cd foo2zjs
make
/cut

Is this actually needed to make the program work? Then it clearly doesn't
belong in the main section of Debian, as main is not supposed to depend on
external stuff.

If the program works fine without this, in my opinion this bug should be
downgraded again, and marked wontfix, as non of the non-free files (neither
the firmware files, nor icm profiles, ...) are actually contained in the
Debian package.

Greetings, Joost Damad

Bug#502744: mxallowd: piuparts test fails: debconf-related problem?

2008-10-25 Thread Niko Tyni
retitle 502744 mxallowd: broken debconf handling
thanks

On Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 06:16:40PM +0200, Lucas Nussbaum wrote:
On 19/10/08 at 17:45 +0200, Michael Stapelberg wrote:

I think the problem is that you don't have an interactive terminal so that
  you
  can't answer the debconf questions.

I'm not sure how to fix this, if this needs to be fixed. Maybe you have a
  solution.

I'm setting the noninteractive debconf frontend. So I'm not presented by
 a question anyway.

Right, this is fully reproducible for me with something like

# env DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get install mxallowd

The problem is (from debian/mxallowd.config):

db_get mxallowd/real_mailservers
[ ! -z $RET ]  add_entry real-mailserver ${RET}
db_input high mxallowd/fake_mailservers || true

which fails with 'set -e' if RET is empty.

The simplest fix is to do something like

[ -z $RET ] || add_entry real-mailserver ${RET}

instead, which should result in the default config file
on noninteractive installations.

However, there are other problems with the debconf handling too. First,
it is violating the 'debconf is not a registry' rule: while the maintainer
scripts will write the debconf settings into /etc/mxallowd.conf, the
settings are never read back. If mxallowd.conf is changed manually,
the old debconf settings will override the manual ones. For example,
reinstalling the package will result in the debconf settings overwriting
those in mxallowd.conf.

Please see the section about 'Config file handling' in debconf-devel(7).
This definitely needs to be fixed.

Another problem is that you shouldn't be editing /etc/mxallowd.conf in
the config script.  Quoting debconf-devel(7):

The config script should not need to modify the filesystem at all. It
just examines the state of the system, and asks questions,
and debconf stores the answers to be acted on later by the postinst
script. Conversely, the postinst script should almost never use debconf
to ask questions, but should instead act on the answers to questions
 asked by the config script.

The config script actually fails when preconfiguring, because it
unconditionally tries to copy /etc/mxallowd.conf when it doesn't exist
yet. However, it succeeds when re-invoked from the postinst, so this
is not really fatal.

Bug#503377: vlc: Seems to start gnome-power-manager when playing

2008-10-25 Thread Alex

Package: vlc
Version: 0.9.4-1
Severity: normal

The experimental version of VLC seems to be starting gnome-power-manager
when playing a movie. Gnome-power-manager never starts by itself in any
other situation that when playing a movie with VLC.

This is unconfortable because:
-gnome-power-manager will change the brightness set by the KDE applet
-gnome-power-manager does not have a quit option, so it needs to be
killed by some means.

Running a Debian Unstable, updated a few days ago, with only the VLC
package from experimental.

Bug#503375: libapache2-mod-perl2 - Uses undefined symbol ap_get_server_banner

2008-10-25 Thread Damyan Ivanov
-=| Bastian Blank, Sat, Oct 25, 2008 at 02:20:46PM +0200 |=-
 Package: libapache2-mod-perl2
 Version: 2.0.4-3
 Severity: grave

After a partial upgrade to Lenny, apache fails to start with the
 following message:
 | /usr/sbin/apache2: symbol lookup error:
 /usr/lib/perl5/auto/Apache2/ServerUtil/ServerUtil.so: undefined symbol:
 ap_get_server_banner

This symbol was added after the apache2 version in Etch but
 libapache2-mod-perl2 lacks a versioned dependency.

According to this commit[1], mod_perl switched to ap_get_server_banner
in response of deprecation of ap_get_server_version in Apache 2.2.4.

[1] http://svn.apache.org/viewvc?view=revrevision=532829

I think making libapache2-mod-perl2 depend on apache2 = 2.2.4 would
be sufficient (at least wrt the ap_get_server_banner symbol).

For reference, apache2 version in Etch is 2.2.3-4+etch6, Lenny/Sid has
2.2.9-10.

Change committed. Please raise your hand before Monday if you see any
problem with it.

Bug#500987: libpcre3 missing shlibs bump

2008-10-25 Thread Christoph Berg
Re: Julien Cristau 2008-10-05 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
You should update the shlibs file and ask for binNMUs of the reverse
  dependencies built against libpcre3-dev 7.8-1

Or revert to 7.6, which would avoid the mess related to a pcre3 shlibs
bump in unstable at this stage of the release.

I was just bit by that issue when trying to update hobbit. I'd like to
get a fix into lenny, but the dependency bump of libpcre3 makes this
hard.

Annoyed,
Christoph

Whatever. I just can't imagine that there haven't been significant changes

Bug#503029: problem recognized

2008-10-25 Thread Radek Warowny
I have recognized the problem I think. The issue occurs when you have
cpu frequency scaling function activated. It appears when CPU was set
to different frequency while inserting analog driver and different
while reading joystick data (for example running a game).

I think the problem is located in analog kernel driver and is related
to usage of rdtscl() function to read time (in GET_TIME macro). This
function returns number of clock ticks, not real time. So when cpu
frequency changes the same difference (delta) of two reads is not the
same difference of time (one clock lasts different time period). When
the analog driver is loaded it computes some timing data that is used
further while reading joystick state. When CPU frequency change
occures it compares that timing data values with new timing reads
which are differently scaled.

A workaround (until the issue will be fixed) is to unload analog
driver, set you CPU do fixed frequency, load the driver again an run
you game.

Regards
Radek

Bug#503388: lxterminal: should provide x-terminal-emulator

2008-10-25 Thread green
Package: lxterminal
Version: 0.1.3-1

On a Lenny system I am setting up, the only terminal I need is lxterminal.
xorg has problems with that because it wants a x-terminal-emulator installed.
lxterminal should provide x-terminal-emulator.

Thanks!

2008-10-25 Thread Daniel Kahn Gillmor
Hi Franklin--

Thanks for the quick response!

On Sat 2008-10-25 05:25:07 -0400, Franklin PIAT wrote:

My primary implementation idea was to make the folders owned by the
group staff (like /usr/local). Would that fit your need ?

I'd rather not do that; membership in group staff is a huge privilege
(because you can rewrite /usr/local, as you say, which means members
could place a trojan in /usr/local/bin/ls, for example). So
membership in that group is not something that is easily granted.

I wonder why you defined DI_NETBOOT_ASSISTANT_CONFIG. Do you need to
be able to use multiple configuration dir ? or would it be fine to
use ~/.di-netboot-assistant.conf (then fall back to /etc/... )

Ah, this makes more sense than what i did. As long as a user-supplied
config file is possible (so DL_CACHE, STATUS_LIB and CONFIG_DIR can be
overridden), the tool can be run cleanly as a non-privileged user. It
should probably fail cleanly if the user is unable to write to
DL_CACHE or STATUS_LIB, though.

Would you like me to submit a new patch that works this way?

I have just tested this hwclock bug on a Thinkpad T61, using the
DI build : 5.0 (lenny) - installer build 20081023-09:05
which uses clock-setup 0.97, kernel 2.6.26, and
util-linux 2.13.1.1-1.

The problem didn't show up.

Bug#503390: directvnc: assumed documentation error in README.Debian

2008-10-25 Thread Martin Peters
Package: directvnc
Version: 0.7.5-8+b1
Severity: minor

In /usr/share/doc/directvnc/README.Debian, the following is
stated:

The display size is limited to 640x480.

This seems not to be correct, cause I couldn't find any
maloperations using other resolutions (e.g. 1024x768)
until now. This does not mean, I fully tested it, so
I might be wrong, but other resolutions seem to work
correctly using Xvnc4. The main problem for me was to
find out, where the resolution configuration can be done.

directvnc is based on directfb. This fact is althoght
mentioned in the man page of directvnc. Not mentioned
is the importance of libdirectfb for configuring
directvnc by creating the library specific configuration
file

  /etc/directfbrc

or the program-specific configuration file

  /etc/directfbrc.directvnc

It would be helpfull to mention in the documentation,
that directvnc is based on directfb and so many of the
configuration stuff can be done in /etc/directfbrc and
/etc/directfbrc.directvnc and that one should read the
manpage of directfbrc (5) in the libdirectfb-bin
package for further configuration options.
