Bug#498915: xkb-data: Non-breakable spaces in Russian layout
On Sun, Sep 14, 2008 at 15:05:17 +0100, Mikhail Ramendik wrote: I have a Russian keyboard layout enable on an en_IE.UTF-8 locale. Here are the lines from /etc/X11/xorg.conf: OptionXkbRules xorg OptionXkbModel pc105 OptionXkbLayout ie,ru OptionXKbOptionsgrp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll All spaces entered in the Russian layout are non-breakable spaces; this is seen in applications like iceweasel and openoffice.org . In the Irish layout spaces are normal. I have found a workaround; adding ,nbsp:none to the XKbOptions line allows me to work as normal. Filing bug against xkb-data as this is probably a keyboard layout data issue. In particular, I suspect it has to do with the following line in /usr.share.x11.xkb.symbols: key.type[group1]=TWO_LEVEL; Thanks for your report. If this still happens with xkb-data 1.5, could you run 'xkbcomp -xkb :0 out.xkb' and send the resulting out.xkb file to this bug? What happened with ure/uno-libs3 in the upgrade? So it just seems to be a case of a missing rpath or LD_LIBRARY_PATH env variable. Well, there's a rpath set (or should at least) be upstream. I'm not sure if the above failure is critical (e.g. for correctly updating stuff). If so I think the severity should be bumped. I'll leave that to you to decide. Bug#511505: winff does not run at all
Just for the record, via IRC (#debian-bugs) I had somebody with a powerpc test winff and he got the following result. So I think it has to do with the architecture. One remark (I don't know how to test this without uploading a new version): I didn't include the ${misc:Depends} in the Depends field because it didn't include any new dependencies on my system. But maybe it needs that when building for powerpc... It would be great if somebody with a ppc could build winff from source including the ${misc:Depends} and confirm that the depends are different from the original package. So this issue is fixed! The new kpartx does not seem to help with this step, ie no mpath0p1 device gets created. We think this is because mpath0 has not been set up yet. In the boot log we get device-mapper: multipath round-robin: version 1.0.0 loaded Starting multipatherror calling out /sbin/scsi_id -g -u -s /block/sdg You can run this command by hand to see what causes the problem. This might be related to the kernel you're running or udev, in case you're using another version than the one in etch. (sdg is the last of the multipathed devices) 3. add another boot-time script /etc/rcS.d/S29multipath-kpartx This contains - #!/bin/sh # NB: assumes you have 'user_friendly_names yes' in multipath.conf # . /lib/lsb/init-functions set -x set -v for m in /dev/mapper/mpath? do log_action_begin_msg Fixing multipath device $m echo $0 fixing multipath device $m /sbin/kpartx.new -a $m log_action_end_msg $? done This does create /dev/mapper/mpath0p1 correctly. We had something similar for sarge, this really shouldn't be necessary for etch. That said, we never fixed #445248 for etch (I wasn't even aware that the issue is still open). [..snip..] Thanks for your help with this problem. Thank you for testing. I don't know when we will get time to look at the problem on 'lenny', Don't bother. Since the patch only modifies kpartx it will work for lenny too. I'd just be interesting to know if you encounter any boot up problems caused by wrong script ordering on lenny too. Bug#513340: Iceweasel troubles with flash 10
Package: flashplugin-nonfree Version: 1:2.4 Severity: important Priority: normal Hi, At iceweasel start, flash plugin is working well (read some videos on youtube, web sites with lots of flash...). After a while (2 or 3 hours), iceweasel is becoming time consummer (50-70% cpu time), memory consummer (over 400Mb) and lot slower. At this moment, if I try to read video or sites with sounds in flash, video are very long to load and only horrible pieces of sound appears... I can reproduce it every times. Workaround : killing iceweasel and restoring the session solve the issue for 2 or 3 hours... but it is not very usefull ! I removed the ~/.adobe directory to remove all parameters from the previous version but no changes. iceweasel is the lastest version (3.0.5-1). regards Mourad For information about:plugins page if it can help : Shockwave Flash Nom de fichier : libflashplayer.so Shockwave Flash 10.0 r15 Type MIME Description SuffixesAutorisé application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash swf Oui application/futuresplashFutureSplash Player spl Oui VLC Multimedia Plug-in Nom de fichier : libvlcplugin.so Version 0.9.2 Grishenko, copyright 1996-2007 The VideoLAN Team http://www.videolan.org/ Type MIME Description SuffixesAutorisé audio/mpeg MPEG audio mp2,mp3,mpga,mpega Oui audio/x-mpegMPEG audio mp2,mp3,mpga,mpega Oui video/mpeg MPEG video mpg, mpeg, mpeOui video/x-mpegMPEG video mpg, mpeg, mpeOui video/mpeg-system MPEG video mpg, mpeg, mpe, vobOui video/x-mpeg-system MPEG video mpg, mpeg, mpe, vobOui audio/x-mpegurl MPEG audio m3u Oui video/mp4 MPEG-4 videomp4,mpg4Oui audio/mp4 MPEG-4 audiomp4,mpg4Oui audio/x-m4a MPEG-4 audiom4a Oui application/mpeg4-iod MPEG-4 videomp4,mpg4Oui application/mpeg4-muxcodetable MPEG-4 videomp4,mpg4Oui video/x-msvideo AVI video avi Oui video/quicktime QuickTime video mov,qt Oui application/x-ogg Ogg stream ogg Oui application/ogg Ogg stream ogg Oui application/x-vlc-pluginVLC plug-in vlc Oui video/x-ms-asf-plugin Windows Media Video asf,asx Oui video/x-ms-asf Windows Media Video asf,asx Oui application/x-mplayer2 Windows Media Oui video/x-ms-wmv Windows Media wmv Oui video/x-ms-wvx Windows Media Video wvx Oui audio/x-ms-wma Windows Media Audio wma Oui application/x-google-vlc-plugin Google VLC plug-in Oui audio/wav WAV audio wav Oui audio/x-wav WAV audio wav Oui audio/3gpp 3GPP audio 3gp,3gppOui video/3gpp 3GPP video 3gp,3gppOui audio/3gpp2 3GPP2 audio 3g2,3gpp2 Oui video/3gpp2 3GPP2 video 3g2,3gpp2 Oui video/divx DivX video divxOui video/flv FLV video flv Oui video/x-flv FLV video flv Oui video/x-matroskaMatroska video mkv Oui audio/x-matroskaMatroska audio mka Oui application/xspf+xmlPlaylist xspf xspfOui Adobe Reader 8.0 Nom de fichier : nppdf.so The Adobe Reader plugin is used to enable viewing of PDF and FDF files from within the browser. Bug#493769: gnome-control-center: UK Dvorak keyboard layout slightly amiss
severity 493769 wishlist tag 493769 moreinfo kthxbye Hi Phil, On Mon, Aug 4, 2008 at 20:56:54 +0100, Phil Reynolds wrote: It is nice to see that there is a UK Dvorak keyboard layout in Gnome, but there are a few things I consider amiss. First, the positions of the and @ signs are suboptimal - ideally in a Dvorak layout, the should be with the ', even though that is the US standard. @ could quite happily go to Shift-2 or AltGr-' if this is done. Second, Shift-` produces ~. not ¬(notsign), but the # and ~ key is still implemented. It could actually be correct that the @ and are in the positions they are in, but if so I would like to see a reference to this as the UK Dvorak layout elsewhere. I am quite happy with the QWERTY layout but thinking of experimenting with Dvorak. I'm not sure what problem you're reporting here, exactly. I guess it's with this: key TLDE { [ grave, notsign, bar, bar ] }; What would you have instead, and why is the current layout incorrect in your opinion? Bug#513236: please add access to all package versions via apt.package.Package
On Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 10:39:23AM +0100, Julian Andres Klode wrote: Yes, I can access all of them using the low-level apt_pkg API, but it is way more cumbersome. I believe it'd make sense to have an iterator over all available versions of the current package, in the high-level API. Yes of course. I will see if I can do this. My plan would be to create a class Version, and add an iterator versions to apt.package.Package.And reimplement candidateX() and installedX() methods to use this class. Many thanks. By the way, my intended use case for this is actually not to only access the version as a string (which AFAICT is the only access you can get right now from the high-level API), but rather to access the whole set of information corresponding to a given version (dependencies and other fields). Just getting a list of version numbers is kinda useless unless you can join them with their information. Do you think it would be possible to have that as well? Bug#513230: mutt coredumps on mailboxes list
Hi, I was able to reproduce the bug without unset imap_passive. .muttrc: # mailboxes !\ imap://us...@mailserver1/ # Use c, TAB, TAB to enter the mailboxes list, select imap mailbox, c, TAB, TAB again, select local mailbox, c, TAB, TAB again: coredump. I can switch between imap mailboxes as much as I want to, but if I select the local mailbox (after reading imap at least once) and then use c, TAB, TAB to get the mailboxes list, I get a crash. So I assume it is not caused by unset imap_passive but just triggered (as this reads imap mailboxes automatically). Thanks a lot, Klaus -- http://lapiz.istik.de/ The Answer is 42. I still experience the bug with xkb-data 1.3, so I am attaching the Xorg log and the output of the commands you asked for. I was not sure if I should send this e-mail to the Debian BTS; feel free to forward it if you think it is OK. Thanks. The keymap looks indeed busted. Running setxkbmap it,se -rules xorg -model pc104 -option '' -option grp:shifts_toggle,compose:menu,lv3:rwin_switch -print | xkbcomp -xkb - - produces a more reasonably-looking output, though, so I think it's more likely this is a bug in the X server than in xkb-data. Reassigning. It would be nice if you could test with a newer version of the X server at some point to see if this got fixed. Bug#513236: please add access to all package versions via apt.package.Package
2009/1/28 Stefano Zacchiroli z...@debian.org: On Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 10:39:23AM +0100, Julian Andres Klode wrote: Yes, I can access all of them using the low-level apt_pkg API, but it is way more cumbersome. That's exactly what I mean. The iterator would return Version objects which provide the methods and properties currently available for candidates and installed packages. Bug#428760: Intent To Package: libzend-framework-php, zend-framework
Hi, For some reasons, I would like to see the Zend Framework included in Debian. In fact, I am interested in packaging another software depending on it. There is already an ITP concerning this package but it seems the original packager in Debian (Raphael) has no interest in finishing the package (see above). Andrea, You have uploaded a newer version (already outdated) on mentors.debian.net. Did you receive any feedback in your request for a sponsor ? Please let me know if I can help you (I can not upload your package since I am not a DD). Stephan, You are currently maintaining the lastest version of Zend Framework in the Ubuntu Universe repository. The best thing to do is uploading your package in Debian too. Please take a look on this page [4] : when his package will be uploaded to Debian: should Ubuntu sync it or use your package ? (To prevent unnecessary divergence, it will probably be synced, overriding your work). Are you interested in doing this work ? To do that, you only need to update this ITP, upload your sources on mentors.debian.net, then request for a sponsor (RFS) on the following mailing-list: debian-mentors(_at_) lists.debian.org. If your are not interested by this task, I can do this work for you. Just let me know. Bug#513344: buffer handling could be made safer
Package: qcontrol Version: 0.4.2-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch Hey, I was reading the qcontrol source and found a couple oddities which are probably harmless but could as well be fixed. If you build with signed-char, you get these warnings: ts409.c:78: attention : case label value exceeds maximum value for type ts409.c:79: attention : case label value exceeds maximum value for type ts409.c:80: attention : case label value exceeds maximum value for type ts409.c:81: attention : case label value exceeds maximum value for type ts409.c:82: attention : case label value exceeds maximum value for type This can easily be fixed by declaring: char buf[100] in ts409.c:58:ts409_read_serial_events() as: unsigned char buf[100] (NB: unsigned char is the default on arm/armel) A similar buffer exists in ts209.c:57:ts209_read_serial_events(), but isn't checked against = 128 values. Another oddity is with serial_read() -- again in both ts209.c and ts409.c: static int serial_read(char *buf, int len) { int err; err = read(serial, buf, len); buf[err] = 0; return err; } if read returns an error, buf is still written to; it would be best to check for read errors before writing the trailing \0. These probably don't cause any error in practice, but I thought it was best to report them. While I'm at it, I also spotted this grep|head| sed constructs in 4 places: device=$(grep Hardware[[:space:]]*: /proc/cpuinfo 2/dev/null | \ head -n1 | sed s/^[^:]*: //) You might want to use something like: device=$(sed -rn 's/^Hardware[[:space:]]+: //p' /proc/cpuinfo | head -1) for readability or the following pure sed implementation: device=$(sed -rn '/^Hardware[[:space:]]+:/ { s/[^:]+: //p; q }' /proc/cpuinfo) albeit I'm not sure why you need 2/dev/null. Bug#511802: what fixed it
First I had forgotten to set NEED_SVCGSSD=yes in /etc/default/nfs-server. But also, after correcting the above, the rpcsec_gss_krb5 module was not started automatically, the line do_modprobe rpcsec_gss_krb5 in /etc/init.d/nfs-kernel-server is present in the unstable version but not in Stable. Even having loaded this module, things worked only after upgrading nfs-common and nfs-kernel-server to Unstable. I did this upgrade with kernels 2.6.26-1 now on client and server, but I do not know if the newer kernel was necessary. Only the newer kernel without the nfs-common and nfs-kernel-server upgrades was not enough. Olaf -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#513090: fai-server should depend on libproc-daemon-perl
Hi, (Please keep 513...@bugs.debian.org in Cc when replying.) On Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 10:29:17AM +0100, Katharina Sommer wrote: libproc-daemon-perl is suggested by fai-server. Since faimond is an optional part of FAI this is perfectly fine imho. On the other hand I think it is strange behaviour to get an fatal error while running faimond because of missing dependencies (even suggested). Agreed. As far as I understood the suggest field from the Debian Policy Manual it is used for packages which enhance usefulness (eg. using gpg for mutt...) of a package. Yes. Packages suggested but not installed should not break execution of a binary/script. Hrm, imho packages suggested but not installed should not break _core_ functionality of a package. When defining the meaning of Depends, the policy talks about a significant amount of functionality, so my opinion should comply with that ;-) However, if some parts of a package don't work without suggested packages, that situation should be handled sanely - see below. At the moment I am thinking of one of the following solutions: 1) Add libproc-daemon-perl to recommends (but what is about perl-tk?). 2) Add a new package fai-server-monitor with proper dependencies. 3) Write a wrapper, to catch the fatal error... 4) Move faimond to /usr/share/doc/fai-server/examples and add a note to README file. So nobody would expect it to work out of the box. 5) Leave everything as it is. But to be honest, I am using Debian now for some years and have never seen such an constellation... I still think that Suggests is fine is this case. However, Perl error messages are not very helpful to people not familiar with Perl, so the current situation should be improved. Bug#513348: xmame: [INTL:vi] Vietnamese debconf templates translation update
Package: xmame Version: 0.016-31 Tags: l10n patch Severity: wishlist The updated Vietnamese translation for the debconf file: xmame Sorry I couldn't do this earlier. I did receive your po-debconf update email. However, I didn't receive the vi.po file with that email, which put this update at the bottom of my priority list, since I am very short of available time. Attaching the relevant file makes it possible for translators to achieve a quick and efficient turnaround on updates, so please do that next time. Bug#513353: Misc programming oddities might have security implications
Package: micro-evtd Version: 3.3.3-6+lenny3 Severity: important Tags: security Hey, I was reading the micro-evtd source, and found some slightly scary issues; first with these warnings: micro_evtd.c: In function 'reset': micro_evtd.c:240: warning: ignoring return value of 'write', declared with attribute warn_unused_result micro_evtd.c:244: warning: ignoring return value of 'read', declared with attribute warn_unused_result micro_evtd.c: In function 'writeUART': micro_evtd.c:310: warning: ignoring return value of 'write', declared with attribute warn_unused_result micro_evtd.c:316: warning: ignoring return value of 'write', declared with attribute warn_unused_result The read()/write() error checking is probably not a big issue in real life, but it would probably be best to abort subsequent reads/writes when one of them fails (except in reset() perhaps). micro_evtd.c: In function 'execute_command2': micro_evtd.c:416: warning: ignoring return value of 'system', declared with attribute warn_unused_result Not a big deal, but might be worth logging? micro_evtd.c: In function 'parse_configuration': micro_evtd.c:1028: warning: format not a string literal and no format arguments That's really trivial to fix by changing: syslog(LOG_INFO, message); into: syslog(LOG_INFO, %s, message); but this remains scary: :-/ sprintf(message, %s-%02d/%02d %02d:%02d, message, ...); Finally, the /tmp usage to run arbitrary commands scares me the most: - AFAICT, mkdir /tmp/micro_evtd is unsecure - /usr/sbin/micro_evtd.event is then copied into it unconditionally (even if the dir aleady existed) (So I could create /tmp/micro_evtd and a /tmp/micro_evtd/micro_evtd.event - /etc/passwd symlink and clobber any file on startup?) - strTmpPath seems to be able to overflow its buffer; the upstream declaration is: char strTmpPath[20]=/tmp; which is then used as follows: sprintf( strTmpPath, %s, pos); with pos coming from a bunch of string parsin routines, and being set in numerous places with sscanf() calls... - there's a Debian patch to set strTmpPath to: char strTmpPath[20]=/tmp/micro_evtd; I'm not sure this is long enough anymore. NB: strTmpPath() is used in execute_command2() whenver not running the CP_SCRIPT. Some patches have been posted on the QEMU mailing list, but the person who has posted it never tried to address the comments about his patch. Bug#498274: Reassigning
reassign 498274 buildd.emdebian.org notfound 498274 1.4.6 tag 498274 + confirmed tag 498274 + help retitle 498274 Coordination of testing migrations in Emdebian thanks All Emdebian flavours need to coordinate migrations into testing - preferably together with migrations of the toolchain packages and the tools themselves. i.e. the debian/, emdebian/, grip/ and locale/ repositories should migrate all binaries from the relevant source package(s) at the same time and maintain installability for each. If a particular binary is not available, Emdebian needs to have guidelines on whether the entire migration is paused or certain flavours are allowed to migrate ahead of the rest. 1. filter/ updates via a daily cron task, directly from Debian. 2. grip/ updates a short time later - after the packages are built on the server. 3. locale/ needs better coordination between Grip and Crush but reprepro handles the current duplication without problems. Generally, locale/ will be updated by the Grip builds quicker than the Crush builds. 4. emdebian/ (which probably should be renamed/symlinked as crush/) migrations are not currently automated, although information necessary to perform the migration is collated daily with a 24hr delay. Packages that fail to cross-build after an update in Debian will take longer to fix but most fixes are done within the 10day testing migration delay. There probably needs to be a system to alert the mailing list when a package consistently fails to cross-build. 5. debian/ (i.e. toolchains) take the longest to build and fix when the build fails but as long as all toolchains remain installable, it probably isn't necessary to delay the migration of other flavours simply because the toolchain is delayed. 5.1. Tools (also in debian/) like emdebian-tools and apt-cross are managed via Debian and Britney - releases only build up in debian/ during a release freeze, as now. Migrations within debian/ must avoid migrating packages other than those necessary for the toolchains. The 'filter/' repository maintained by emdebian-grip-server can provide all the data we need about migrations within Debian - support already exists such that when the chosen mirror updates, the filter is updated by a cron task and the Packages.gz file in the filter repository is updated by reprepro. This removes the need to listen to the email announcements from Britney or devise other ways to monitor Debian testing. This is a Policy thing for Emdebian - it will be supported via scripts but the implementation needs to be bespoke. Debian::Packages::Compare will be the main agent, tying the TDebs to the source packages via the Source: field of the TDeb. Of course, this problem would go away if there was a way to get these repositories into the main Debian archive. :-) Alternatively, if the real 'britney' script becomes available as a regularly updated package in Debian, it could be possible to use that with reprepro. This could be a good sub-project for someone else to develop. It will be essential when Crush starts to support more architectures. If you want to work on it, just claim this bug report and keep it (and therefore the mailing list) regularly updated. -- Neil Williams = http://www.data-freedom.org/ http://www.nosoftwarepatents.com/ http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ pgpe79YxQkaJg.pgp Description: PGP signature

Hi, It seems that when the lpar reboots when one selects install64, and then after the reboot again install64; the system then *does* boot! Now when the system is fully installed one needs to upgrade yaboot to 1.3.14. Then the system is able to boot from disk as well. Bug#511000: gEDA-user: geda in Lenny (was Re: Creating system-gafrc again)
Hi, I'm a bit confused about what's needed/expected here. For the lenny release we can only expect to fix RC bugs at this time. This means the copyright/licensing fix, and possibly taking the most critical stuff from 1.4.3 and incorporating it. I can't ask for all of 1.4.3 to be included because we're in freeze and have been since before 1.4.3's release. In order to get any fixes into our 1.4.0 packages we need bug reports against the relevant packages. I don't have any information about what's fixed else I would open relevant bug reports myself. I will upload fixes for the licensing bug tonight. Hamish On Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 06:12:18PM +0100, Richard Hartmann wrote: Any update? Top-posting in to make relating easier. In any case.. we might be forced just to have the licence fix, rather than a new upstream version + license fix. If need be, I can finalize the packages get a sponsor within 24 hours. It would be a NMU and I am not a DD, but the bugs are RC and there was ample time for the maintainer to react, so hey. Just say the word and I will get going. Hamish: What is your take on this, if any? , and maybe throw in a fix for #507363 for good measure. That's not critical, and isn't something I expect they would want to change during the freeze. At least 1.4.0 - 1.4.3 is just carefully back-ported (and well tested) code changes fixing crash bugs. Don't underestimate the likelihood of a simple packaging fix causing major breakage. Its always the last minute one-liner which breaks a release ;) Personally, I would tend to split the fixes into as many packages as possible so RMs can cherry-pick, anyway. Bug#512689: manpage is correct as-is.
http://linux.codehelp.co.uk/emdebian/man/re05.html#hostname http://manpages.debian.net/cgi-bin/man.cgi?query=emsetup The section from the existing manpage is: HOST CONFIGURATION In some circumstances (e.g. inside a chroot), hostname -f fails and emsetup reports an error about being unable to determine the fully qualified hostname. This usually occurs because of an old /etc/hosts file. Example 1.1. Fixing hostname for mybox.mydomain The typical fix is to add an extra line to fix the hostname configuration. Substitute mybox with your short hostname (use hostname -s). If you have a local domain, specify it instead of mydomain. If you have no local domain, use localdomain: 127.0.1.1 mybox.mydomain mybox Your suggestion was to replace that with: -127.0.1.1 mybox.mydomain mybox +127.0.0.1 mybox.mydomain mybox That won't work - you need both lines, as the text describes - add the line to /etc/hosts, not replace it. The whole point is that 127.0.0.1 does not work reliably without 127.0.1.1 existing *as well* but the 127.0.0.1 line generally already exists. It is possible that this is a bug elsewhere in a package like debootstrap but take a look at the code for pbuilder and empdebuild - as long as the chroot is for use on the same system, then copying /etc/hosts into the chroot verbatim is a viable solution. Problems occur when the debootstrap is expected to be copied/installed onto a different system where the values in /etc/hosts need to be generated properly - for Debian that is done by D-I but for a manual debootstrap install, it has to be solved separately. The first line should already exist: 127.0.0.1 mybox.mydomain mybox but that works for 'hostname' but not for 'hostname -f', which requires the addition of the second line (and sometimes further changes - e.g. some setups require that the working /etc/hosts/ file is copied into the chroot verbatim. I've added emphasis that the example is what should be *added* to /etc/hosts but the generation of /etc/hosts itself or the other issues that may still prevent 'hostname -f' from working properly are outside the scope of emsetup or emdebian-tools. I've also added: If the chroot will only ever be used on the same system that created the chroot, it is sometimes sufficient to copy the /etc/hosts file from the host system verbatim into the chroot. If you need to copy that debootstrapped environment onto another machine as an installation, you will need to fix hostname -f properly. If your /etc/hosts is missing or if the extra line does not complete the fix, you will need to find out how to fix hostname -f before emsetup can work. The actual changes necessary for this task are beyond the scope of emdebian-tools or emsetup. I won't be adding the 127.0.0.1 line or doing anything in emdebian-tools other than documenting that 'hostname -f' must work and that getting it to work is principally the job of the user creating the chroot in the first place. -- Neil Williams = http://www.data-freedom.org/ http://www.nosoftwarepatents.com/ http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ pgpSOx8ldoP0w.pgp Description: PGP signature
