Maybe does this depend on the language (Ossama, were you installing in
Arabic?)...or the text|graphical installer?

/me is trying to do a test install with netinst beta1 and standard
task in Arabic just now (without network during my daily commute, I
can't do much more).

Hi,

This is a bug that was fixed in the latest stable release : 6.1.3.
We didn't send an announce for these releases, we just published them on
the web site.

Just to say you won't have to maintain this patch too long.

Bug#604765: gnome-screensaver: I would like to be able to configure the location and appearance of the dialog to unlock the screen

2010-11-24 Thread Brian Minton

It would be nice if there was a way to configure the location and
appearance of the dialog that asks the user for their password.
Specifically, I have recently gotten a second monitor and am using them
in dual-headed (TwinView) mode. The password dialog appears centered
across both monitors, which makes it hard to read, and I'd like to be
able to customize it.

thanks,
Brian Minton

After apply the latest patches my openvpn tunnel broke down.
Downgrading to cipher 0.9.8g-15+lenny6 (my previous version) brought the tunnel
up again.
Openvpn did start ok, interface went up, logs stated connected to peer but
the tunnel was non-functional.

I have production state on this tunnel so I had lack of time in investigating
underlying causes.
If you provide me with your wishes I can do tests under controlled
circumstances.

Do the logs indicate any kind of error message?

Can you try exactly which version broke things? Can you for
instance try if 0.9.8g-15+lenny8 still works?

I've tried this with 0.9.8o-3 which has the same patch as
0.9.8g-15+lenny9, and it still works for me.

I can also try this with a lenny based system, but I'm not going
to try this this late in the evening.

Kurt

Hi Kurt,

I just tested with libssl0.9.8_0.9.8g-15+lenny8_i386.deb and it works fine.

just to be clear: I buy this tunnel as a service from an ISP to obtain a
public, fixed ip address.
I have no control about the config and I have ignored the WARNING in the
bottom of the success log because the openvpn.conf was created by the ISP.

I interpret the Warning as interface is brought up correctly and the
server (my peer) is sending a somewhat misconfigured route.

An error but it indicates a fully established tunnel.

Bug#604728: general: Cannot play anything in totem or gnome-mplayer while a flash movie is running in iceweasel

On Tue, Nov 23, 2010 at 10:19:05PM +0100, marcin wrote:

[No other audio app starts when there's already one running]
I'm sorry but I cannot tell which package exactly is the source of the
problem so I put it in 'general' section.

Well, looks like a classic: on some (most?) audio cards, ALSA only
supports a single stream. So if you start your flash playback, the audio
device is occupied and hence blocked for other apps.

The solution is to multiplex/mix in software, most commonly done with
pulseaudio these days.

Don't you have pulseaudio installed?

Also, make sure to redirect all ALSA output to pulseaudio. Either in
/etc/asound.conf or in ~/.asoundrc:

--- asound.conf ---
pcm.pulse {
type pulse
}

ctl.pulse {
type pulse
}

pcm.!default {
type pulse
}
ctl.!default {

--- end of asound.conf ---

CTAN does not have bugs, what is there how the authors uploaded it.
It is a bug in TL that the fonts.zip was not unpacked, we didn't notice

Bug#604773: [kspread] Time cells shown as 00:00 when ODS file is loaded, corrupted when saving as ODS

2010-11-24 Thread Filipus Klutiero

Package: kspread
Version: 1:2.2.1-3
Severity: grave
Tags: upstream fixed-upstream

2 days ago a new OOo migrated to squeeze and I decided to remove it,
forgetting that I used Calc daily for my timesheet - ahem. So when I
opened my timesheet yesterday, it didn't open with Calc, but with
KSpread, which I also had installed. I thought I wouldn't bother to
reinstall OOo just for that, so I added November 21's time, saved and
closed. It's about time we started seeing the wonders of ODF, right?

Today, I opened again the spreadsheet and noticed the times were really
wrong. I asked on #koffice and was informed by Marijn Kruisselbrink this
was a bug he had fixed for KOffice 2.3 (so no fix released yet). The
upstream report is https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=253042
The precise details of this issue are not clear, but basically, when
certain time values are saved in an ODS file, the time saved has some
random data. When reopening the same file which looked OK, KSpread shows
the time as 00:00:00. If you click the cell, you see the value in the
top bar is the actual value - apparently. This does not work so well
with other ODS programs, like Calc (and probably the fixed KSpread),
which rather shows some more or less random values. What happened in my
spreadsheet from Calc was that all durations of at least 1 hour were not
corrupted, all others were corrupted. So the 25 minutes entries
(00:25:00) were corrupted, but not 01:10:00.

To reproduce, just create a new sheet, put 5:00 in A1, save, and watch
the displayed value change to 0:00 when reopening the document.

According to Marijn, there is no 2.2.3 planned. I don't think the fix
was backported to branch 2.2, but Marijn doesn't think this would be
hard. The fix is very short:

Bug#586066: Commited patches for all bugs in Debian Science SVN

2010-11-24 Thread Andreas Tille
Hi Rudi,

I vaguely remember that you announced some kind of longer vacation from
Debian (please correct me if I'm wrong) and thus I wonder whether you
might agree to maintain libcomplearn in the Debian Science team. In
case you would agree I would volunteer to upload the stuff I prepared
at

   svn://svn.debian.org/svn/debian-science/packages/libcomplearn/trunk/

I do not want to hijack your package and none of the bugs is really
urgent. However the watchfile typo is really annoying if I always
stumble upon a false positive in the DEHS sentinel I want to implement.

The two translation related bugs should also be rather taken over
upstream than in a patch and considering you as upstream I would
prefer if you rather would release a new upstream version.

Please keep us updated what you think about the Debian Science move and
how we should proceed with this package.

Kind regards

Andreas.

I confirm that (apart from the missing column), it fixes the bug.

On a side note: when a reboot is needed, n00b doesn’t get the reboot
proposal. I don’t know whether it is intentional. I think it should see
that icon, since if he’s the one using the machine at that moment, he
should be the one rebooting it too.
I don't know why this happens (it's a separate icon from the update
icon, so not related to it).

This seems to be fixed together with the same patch. Not sure why.

Bug No longer marked as found in versions kdegraphics/4:4.4.5-2.

Sorry but there is absolutely zero information in the bug report. I need
at least a detailed error message, and most preferably a stack trace.
See http://wiki.debian.org/HowToGetABacktrace

On a side note, I don’t understand Modestas’ remark:
“gnome-settings-daemon still takes over KDE desktop”.
The settings daemon will not launch itself alone, since in Debian we
deactivate the DBus activation for it. It will only start for GNOME
sessions, unless explicitly started otherwise.

Cheers,

Bug#604738: libglib2.0-dev: defined function throw away constness, causing warnings from compiler

   #define _G_TYPE_CVH(vl, gt) (g_type_check_value_holds ((GValue*) vl, gt))

It is throwing away the constness of the vl argument. Given that it
only read the value content, it would be better if it cast to (const
 GValue *) instead.

I see how this is a bug, but would you be kind enough to forward this
upstream? I doubt I’d add much value by playing carrier between you and
them if they disagree with your interpretation.

Sounds plausible.

Knowing if the bug appears only while using gdm3 would help.

I am using gdm3. I think I tried going into a session without going
through gdm and had the same problem. If you'd like me to test something
in a specific way, let me know.

Anyway, don't you think that the bug is a real one even if not
belonging to xserver-xorg-input-keyboard, and that Maik who
reported it (in keyboard-configuration package) was let without
 answer and without hope ?

Thank you for noticing. Since I have a viable workaround (set the same
keyboard layout and options in GNOME as in keyboard-configuration), I
had decided not to reopen and bitch about aggressive bug-closing this
time and just let it go.

ipcacheParse: No Address records in response to 'www.google.com'

I found that everything is working fine when using totd as the DNS
server. totd itself is forwarding all requests to the previous used
bind.

Bug#604776: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: IPSec + SNAT slows down network performance, high number of software interrupts (%si in top)

2010-11-24 Thread Joerg Kurlbaum
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-27
Severity: normal
Tags: squeeze

When using the squeeze kernel (2.6.32 on amd64), the performance for
IPSec tunnels that also need SNAT is very bad.

I'm using OpenSWAN with shorewall (but that doesn't really matter, i think)

I have several tunnels configured to do FIRST SNAT to a certain IP when
packets come from our LAN that should go into the tunnel.

Using this configuration the performance on the tunnel is about 300 Kb/s
when copying large files.
A test configuration without SNAT is capable of about 10 MB/s, with the
same settings for IPSec.

While transferring data over the tunnel, the number of software interrupts
raises (up to 100% in top) and slows down all other (non-IPSec) connections.
The machine hardware used, is more than capable for the IPSec traffic
(quad-core XEON CPU).

I had reported this problem to the shorewall developers and they couldn't
reproduce, but used different linux kernels.

As a test i installed another linux kernel (2.6.36) and the problem was gone.
I used the config from the Debian kernel (2.6.32) and just answered to new
configuration questions.

The relevant thread on the shorewall list is here (more information):
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=20101015103504.GJ4773%40kropotkin.neuland-bfi.deforum_name=shorewall-users

Since the 2.6.32 kernel is the long term supported kernel for the next
debian release, the problem described briefly above should be known to the
developers.

I think the problem raises only for special configurations. Some combination
of NIC and Kernel.

We haven't had this problem before (even with slower hardware) and are not
having
it with the new 2.6.36 kernel.

Best regards,
   Jörg

I had rebuild debian kernel 2.6.32+28 with the patch

http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-2.6.32.y.git;a=commit;h=787814b206766e5a6f21aa2aac0c6685b46821d3

and now, it's booting fine.

can someone push it upstream ?

(ubuntu kernel in my 2nd post is unrelated, maybe it's an ubuntu patch problem)

Bug#604778: gettext doesn't get the dependencies on various library packages for the plugins

2010-11-24 Thread Matthias Klose

Package: gettext
Version: 0.18.1.1-1
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu natty

I didn't yet check, why, but when linked with --as-needed by default, the
dependencies on various libraries don't end up in the package. Passing
--no-as-needed works around it. Passing --as-needed should show the issue.

Bug#604785: /usr/bin/epiphany-browser: crash when closing last browser window with history open: GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

2010-11-24 Thread Kenyon Ralph
Package: epiphany-browser

File: /usr/bin/epiphany-browser

Closing the last browser window while the history window (Go -

the output on the console:

 PS: emacs23-lucid works for me.

Small wonder since the Lucid build does not use gconf. Since gconf is
not all too useful currently (the only benefit is that Emacs can use the
Gnome system font) and has such annoying side effects, I would suggest
configuring emacs23 --without-gconf.

It might be too late for Squeeze, though.

the xkb-data fix to work from inside X (running setxkbmap -option
apple:badmap doesn't change anything, I have to put it
into /etc/default/keyboard).

So it seems safe to not include it for now in Squeeze kernel, I'll open
a bug upstream and report back when I have more news. The xkb-data fix
alone seems to work fine for now.

Cheers,

Bug#604792: cln: Please add armhf support

2010-11-24 Thread Konstantinos Margaritis
Source: cln
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

The armhf port has reached a very good state (at 87%) at debian-ports.org,
and I'm now mass-filing bug reports to packages for armhf support.
Most packages just have to add armhf in the architecture field. The complete
list is in http://wiki.debian.org/ArmHardFloatTodo

The package builds fine using the attached patch. We do not target squeeze,
so if you feel like waiting until squeeze is released, there is no rush. But
please consider adding armhf support. :)

Regards

Konstantinos

Hi,

hal is being deprecated and we eventually want to get rid of it [1].

The latest upstream release 0.5.5 no longer has a dependency on hal
(afaics it uses GIO), so it would be nice to see the exo package
updated as soon as wheezy development opens.

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#604798: missing dependency on python-gnome2

2010-11-24 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
Package: python-gnomeapplet
Version: 2.30.0-3
Severity: serious

python-gnomeapplet seems to be missing a dependecy on the package providing
Python module bonobo.ui. In a sid chroot updated today, installing
python-gnomeapplet (via apt-get) I get the following:

   import gnomeapplet
  Traceback (most recent call last):
File stdin, line 1, in module
  ImportError: No module named bonobo.ui

Installing python-gnome2 fixes the problem.

Cheers.

the loop here.

But tbh, I think integrating a proper help system (based on yelp) would be much
more valuable to our users as you can e.g. include graphics/screenshots and it
is directly accessible from within the gui.
See [1] for more details if you are interested in working on this.

The man page itself has a few formatting errors (e.g. ..TH, should be .TH) and
is very short. It doesn't really offer more information than the package
description and the output of palimpsest --help. To be really useful you should
explain e.g. the command line args in more detail, provide an EXAMPLE section
etc.

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#604800: buildd.debian.org: binfmt-support switched from Architecture: all to any in experimental, but not building

2010-11-24 Thread Colin Watson
Package: buildd.debian.org

binfmt-support used to be written in Perl and therefore Architecture:
all. In version 2.0.0, uploaded to experimental two days ago, I rewrote
it in C and made it Architecture: any. However, the buildds aren't
picking it up:

https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=binfmt-supportsuite=experimental

Philipp Kern said on IRC that it smells like a bug and that it looks
like it didn't see the source, and agreed that I should file it here.

Thanks,

Well, to be honest, the fact that replacement relies on udev which is

To be more specific:

upower already has a freebsd backend (for stuff like xfce-power-manager)
udisks does not and is currently Linux-only.

GIO/GVFS uses udisks/g-d-u on Linux and hal on kfreebsd in Debian.
If the xfce apps use GIO they should not be concerned about how the lower layers

Bug#579312: package canna failed to purge: /usr/sbin/deluser: The user `canna' does not exist.

2010-11-24 Thread Alexander Reichle-Schmehl
Hi Jean-Baptiste!

* Jean-Baptiste Lallement jeanbaptiste.lallem...@gmail.com [100427 00:24]:

In Ubuntu, we've applied the attached patch to achieve the following:

   * debian/postrm: don't fail if canna user is already deleted (LP: #569678)

We thought you might be interested in doing the same.

While I'm not the maintainer of the package, but just a fellow DD who
looked through the list of release critical bugs, I like to comment on
the proposed patch:

-deluser --remove-home canna
+deluser --remove-home canna /dev/null 21 || true

Sorry, but that is a quite ugly solution. Ignoring *all* errors deluser
might show? And then even hiding all information from the user? What
if deluser fails for an other reason?

A better solution would be to check the return value of deluser (it
sends a sepperate exit code, if the user didn't exists) or simple
checking the existence of the user before trying to remove it.

Best solution woudl of course to check why the postrm script is called
twice, but just hiding all errors is nice bike shedding, but not a
propper fix.

Best Regards,
Alexander, who just uploaded a check existence before removing fix

Bug#598222: Maintaining workrave in Debian Med team?

2010-11-24 Thread Andreas Tille
Hi Francois,

as you can see at

   http://debian-med.alioth.debian.org/tasks/tools#workrave

we included workrave in our tasks and thus the Debian Med team would
like to keep this package up to date. If you are interested in team
maintenance (keeping the packaging in SVN, accepting other team members
as uploaders, following a group policy in packaging) I would volunteer
to adapt the current packaging of workrave to our policy and inject it
into SVN. I would also volunteer to update it to the latest upstream
(= close #598222).

What do you think?

Kind regards and thanks for maintaining workrave in any case

Bug#604805: kmail: unusable with $HOME on OpenAFS due to Akonadi not starting

2010-11-24 Thread Ansgar Burchardt
Package: kmail
Version: 4:4.4.7-2
Severity: important

KMail is unusable with $HOME on OpenAFS: it starts and is usable, but
after a few moments an error message stating that akonadi could not be
started shows up. KMail then exits:

  kmail(4842)/libakonadi Akonadi::Control::Private::exec: Could not start/stop
Akonadi!
kmail(4842) main: Unable to start Akonadi server, exit application

The problem with starting Akonadi is that it tries to create a UNIX
socket in $HOME/.local/share/akonadi/db_misc/mysql.socket. This is not
possible with OpenAFS. See also the attached report.

I see two possible solutions for this problem:

a) Akonadi should create the socket elsewhere. Other parts of KDE seem
to use /tmp/ksocket-$USER here (or $HOME/.kde/socket-$HOSTNAME which is
a symlink to the directory in /tmp).

b) KMail should not exit when it cannot start Akonadi. It still seems
to be usable.

It would be nice if this could be fixed for Squeeze as KMail is right
now unusable :-(

Regards,
Ansgar

 --- asound.conf ---
 pcm.pulse {
    type pulse
 }

 ctl.pulse {
    type pulse
 }

 pcm.!default {
    type pulse
 }
 ctl.!default {
    type pulse
 }
 --- end of asound.conf ---

Rethinking, that is still wrong, as deluser (part of the non-essential

even a piuparts report about that problem (see

Replacing that with a proper userdel call is trivial, so I changed
that, too and uploaded a new package with the attached nmudiff. (Still

Bug#521165: I have this problem too.

2010-11-24 Thread Marc Franquesa
autofs5 5.0.3-3
Debian Lenny

I experience exactly the same problem. I have diferent systems in
diferent archs (i386, mips and armel) and all of them show the same
behavior.

Tried configuring autofs passing -t 120 for timeout, configuring timeout
in /etc/default/autofs a nothing: Automount mounts the directory but
never umounts it. Tried with diferent timeouts and diferent directories.

I'm using indirect maps (the standard way) and automount reports in
syslog that the timeout is correct (120) but never logs nothing about
trying to umount any mountpoint.

Stopping autofs doesn't umount any map and I have to umount it manually
(and umounts ok without any problem).

I see that this bug is some quite old. ¿anybody is looking for this?

Bug#604807: piuparts.debian.org: enable --skip-logrotatefiles-test for sid again

2010-11-24 Thread Holger Levsen
package: piuparts
severity: wishlist
user: debian...@lists.debian.org
usertags: piuparts.d.o
block by: 582630
x-debbugs-cc: 582...@bugs.debian.org,evg...@debian.org

Hi,

due to 582630 I'll disable the logrorate-test of piuparts for all
distributions now, as all (or at least the vast majority) packages using
logrotate will fail the test like this:

error: error accessing /var/log/gearman-job-server: No such file or
directory
  error: /etc/logrotate.d/gearman-job-server:1 glob failed
for /var/log/gearman-job-server/*.log
error: found error in /var/log/gearman-job-server/*.log , skipping

Once 582630 is fixed, I'm happy to enable this test again.

cheers,
Holger
