So I tried recollindex -z and then even manually removing xapiandb/ before reindexing, but both of these crashed. I retried indexing from the GUI. That crashed too. Currently I can't reindex my local imap mirror, nor can I use my previous index. This makes recoll unusable for me. It would seem that there is some file in your document set which is crashing recoll. We need to determine which it is, get it out of the indexed set so that you can begin to use recoll again, and if at all possible, I would very much like to get a copy to fix the bug (if this is confidential data, we'll try other ways to get details about the issue). For a beginning, we need to have a look at the log file before the point where recoll crashes. Bug#567863: RFP: Handbrake - video transcoder
On Mo, Okt 10, 2011 at 07:12:23 (CEST), Rogério Brito wrote: Hi there. I'm just including the Multimedia team, as they don't seem to be subscribed to this bug. On Oct 09 2011, Ralf Jung wrote: Can't be packaged as x264 video codec and aac and mp3 audio codec aren't free. How can that be, I can decode and encode mp3 and view MPEG4 videos without problems, installing only packages from the debian repositories...? Ralf, I think that when Christian wrote that, we didn't have x264 and lame in the main archive. Things have changed since this bug was originally filed. Once we have faac (if it's acceptable for our archive), then it would be lovely to have a new version of handbrake (e.g., from their git tree) in the archive, as it is a frontend for multimedia libraries that quite possibly passes the useable by mom and dad usability test, especially since it comes with sensible presets. I don't think we'll ever have faac in Debian because of its license. See https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/faac/+bug/374900 for details. Luckily, we have vo-aacenc (http://packages.debian.org/sid/main/libvo-aacenc0), which is the aac encoder from android and can encode aac just fine. As far as I know, Handbrake does not even implement any of this. It uses gstreamer, ffmpeg and others. Well, it does implement some things, like, for instance, their decombing routines, which is very nice for some interlaced and almost-interlaced things. As a side-effect, this decombing of theirs results in variable frame rates, which potentially feeds fewer frames to x264 (or whatever encoder is in question), making the bitrates tend to lower. Another side-effect that people may not appreciate because they run fast architectures is that outputting fewer frames, some slower video cards (e.g., in a powerpc machine) can have a fighting chance of playing some videos. I don't know of any implementation of handbrake's decombing algorithm in other software (e.g., ffmpeg/libav, mplayer, mplayer2, gstreamer etc.) Does anyone know? The other transcoders (arista, transmaggedon) are jokes regarding the amount of configurability that they allow. I agree that Handbrake is a really great tool. Actually, I did take a look at the sources and found out, that it would require a lot of efford to get it into debian. The reason is that the ship a lot of patched libraries that we already have in debian. I don't think this code duplication is acceptable for the Debian system. As for this RFP, I think any potential packager should identify the included libraries and start upstreaming the included patches. Then, try to build them against the libraries that Debian already ships. -- Gruesse/greetings, Reinhard Tartler, KeyID 945348A4 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#638297: ITA: edbrowse -- A /bin/ed-alike webbrowser
Jean-Philippe MENGUAL mengualjean...@free.fr writes: I'd be happy to step in again, and adopt the package, with Jean-Phillippe as co-maintainer if so he wishes, based on his work, with the things I disliked in my reply in the thread above, fixed. I may have not read properly the thread, but I don't understand what you dislike. My earlier mail was this (some of it may or may not apply now, I haven't looked at the most recent version of the package yet): Jean-Philippe MENGUAL mengualjean...@free.fr writes: I'm not sure of release number, but I put -2 as -1 was the NMU and I didn't want to remove this. Since the NMU never hit the archive, and -1 is not an NMU version number anyway, I'd merge the two changelogs into one. Also, looking at the changelog, I see this line: * New upstream version (3.4.7). Closes: #598162, #631027, #506613 To me, this tells that all three of that bugs were reports that a new upstream version exists, while they're not. The first is, but the second is an FTBFS, and the third is a problem with edbrowse failing to work with linksys web uis. I'd reword it a bit like this: * New upstream version (Closes: #598162). * [describe how this was fixed (Closes: #631027). * Now works with Linksys routers' UIs again (Closes: #506613) This has a few advantages, in my opinion: - It makes it obvious which bug is about what, and how they were fixed, instead of the changelog viewer having to look up each issue in the BTS and figure out what they're about. For someone who likes to see a _changelog_, that's a huge plus. - It doesn't mention the upstream version twice (it's already in the package version). - I like it better that way! Furthermore, I couldn't figure out how #631027 was eventually fixed. Perhaps because I'm not familiar with the packaging itself, but neither the changelog, nor debian/control tells me much about it. And while I'm here, a couple of other cosmetic nitpickings: - In override_dh_auto_clean, if you use rm -f, there's no need for the - prefix: the rm will never fail, thus, it is pointless to ignore its exit status. - Wouldn't it be better to simply patch the upstream manpage instead of tweaking it in debian/rules? - Wouldn't exporting CFLAGS=... LIBS=... JSLIB=.. STATICLIBS=... LFLAGS=.. make the rules file simpler? With patching the upstream manpage and exporting instead of overriding, you could get rid of all the overrides, pretty much. Another option would be to modify the upstream Makefile - it is already patched anyway to add a clean target. - dh_installchangelog should recognise and install CHANGES as an upstream changelog, even without the override - Why is debian/compat 5 when you're using dh (ie, debhelper = 7; with correct build-depends)? These are all minor improvements, but I felt like sharing since I'm poking around in the package anyway. That's all I could find with a quick glance.. Oh, and if you insist adding me to Uploaders (not neccessary, I believe, I don't think edbrowse would need two, and I'm perfectly happy being Just an Ordinary User of it), please use alger...@madhouse-project.org. Thanks for taking care of the package! Could you remember me please? Anyway you're already uploader, you can, without problems, become a co-maintainer with I. My problem now is that edbrowse, available on http://demo.accelibreinfo.eu/debian crashes at runtime. I'll have to contact upstream, as gdb isn't very clear and it seems libmozjs is a problem. I'll have a look at this issue, as soon as time permits. Perhaps I can figure something out (unless upstream already did). Do you know of an easy way to reproduce the crash? I'd be happy if you would like to help me, all the more as the programming matter isn't my skill. I know to package, but hardly fixing C problems and libraries problems. And in edbrowse, it seems it's exactly the problem to fix. So you're welcome for any contribution. I'm happy to help with any C issues, or pretty much anything else, but I can do that without being an uploader. If there's anything else I can help with, apart from debugging the crash you mentioned above, please let me know! -- |8] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Could you try if freecol still compiles and work with the new package? If that is the case, it makes sense to link it to libtinfo. libncurses5 unnecessarily. OTOH, there may be cases where packages inadvertently use -ltermcap where they really need (n)curses Assuming the above is correct, they're linking to the wrong thing so it should break. I also noticed there are no header files for libtinfo-dev which doesn't appear correct to me. Surely there are some functions in libtinfo that you could use and they need headers to reference them? The ncurses headers appear in libncurses5-dev package, but there might be cases where that isn't installed. In that case, it would be necessary to make libncurses5-dev depend on tinfo-dev (otherwise the headers would be duplicated). -- Thomas E. Bug#644135: cifs ignores sysct setting
I partly agree to the wishlist opinion, for the part where I ask for a loading option, however, imho cifs has a bug where it ignores the sysctl setting. Bug#644290: phppgadmin multiple XSS (CVE-2011-3598)
Multiple XSS vulnerabilities have been reported in phpPgAdmin: https://secunia.com/advisories/46248/ Please ensure that unstable is fixed on short notice and give the upload an elevated urgency tag. Hi, unstable was fixed a few days ago, unfortunately without a bumped urgency. Can you also assess whether (old)stable are affected, and if so, provide packages? If not (affected or able), do let us know aswell. In any case, please mention CVE-2011-3598 in your changelogs. https://secunia.com/advisories/46248/ says prior versions are affected, so yes. On 10/09/2011 09:02 PM, Ludovic Brenta wrote: Matthias, this bug is going to cause all future uploads of GNAT to FTBFS, because gnat-4.6 is already the default and the buildds will install the broken gcc-4.6 and try to build gnat-4.6 with it. So, I think the solution has to be in gcc-4.6. In the past, we used to have symlinks like /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.6.1 - 4.6. Do you have any objection against reintroducing these symlinks? My mistake. GCC_VERSION wasn't correctly set. Need to check the spu build before upload. Uploads for the next stable release are no longer accepted, so it will have to go into the next one. I also don't think severity grave is justified, so downgrading. Bug#644888: [pulseaudio-discuss] Bug#644809: pulseaudio: Confusing warning `PulseAudio configured for per-user sessions`
Package: pulseaudio Version: 1.0-4 Severity: normal X-Debbugs-CC: pulseaudio-disc...@lists.freedesktop.org 2011/10/10 Maarten Bosmans mkbosm...@gmail.com: 2011/10/9 Paul Menzel pm.deb...@googlemail.com: Package: pulseaudio Version: 1.0-4 Severity: normal X-Debbugs-CC: pulseaudio-disc...@lists.freedesktop.org Dear PulseAudio Debian packagers and upstream PA folks, the Debian init script `/etc/init.d/pulseaudio` [1] currently prints a warning when PA is configured in non-system mode. PULSEAUDIO_SYSTEM_START=0 DISALLOW_MODULE_LOADING=1 test -f /etc/default/pulseaudio . /etc/default/pulseaudio if [ $PULSEAUDIO_SYSTEM_START != 1 ]; then log_warning_msg PulseAudio configured for per-user sessions exit 0 fi In my opinion a warning suggests that something might be wrong and therefore I am bringing this issues to your attention. First of all: I appreciate that Debian (and thus Ubuntu) provides the init script to make it easier to run pulse in system mode. The warning is correct when /etc/init.d/pulseaudio start is invoked manually. Because in that case the user expects pulse to be started and it isn't. For normal bootup procedure (on an unchanged system), the warning should not be shown, because then it is expected that pulse is run per-user. In `/etc/default/pulseaudio` [2] there is the following explanation. # Start the PulseAudio sound server in system mode. # (enables the pulseaudio init script - requires that users be in the # pulse-access group) # System mode is not the recommended way to run PulseAudio as it has some # limitations (such as no shared memory access) and could potentially allow # users to disconnect or redirect each others' audio streams. The # recommended way to run PulseAudio is as a per-session daemon. For GNOME/KDE/ # Xfce sessions in Ubuntu Lucid/10.04, /etc/xdg/autostart/pulseaudio.desktop # handles this function of automatically starting PulseAudio on login, and for # it to work correctly your user must *not* have autospawn = no set in # ~/.pulse/client.conf (or in /etc/pulse/client.conf). By default, autospawn # is enabled. For other sessions, you can simply start PulseAudio with # pulseaudio --daemonize. # 0 = don't start in system mode, 1 = start in system mode PULSEAUDIO_SYSTEM_START=0 # Prevent users from dynamically loading modules into the PulseAudio sound # server. Dynamic module loading enhances the flexibility of the PulseAudio # system, but may pose a security risk. # 0 = no, 1 = yes DISALLOW_MODULE_LOADING=1 As far as I remember this explanation is correct and also upstream’s, i. e. your, view/recommendation. Indeed, that is why we (upstream) do not provide the init script: to underline our recommendation. If this is correct I guess the init script should be changed to not log a warning or explain the warning in a better way. I'm not sure whether it is possible to differentiate between manual and bootup invocation of the init script. But that would be the best solution, I think. Bug#644426: libtinfo-dev: Provide libtermcap.{so,a} symlinks

I assume that the functions required in libtermcap are provided by libtinfo. That's my assumption as well, and Thomas has not contradicted. I also noticed there are no header files for libtinfo-dev which doesn't appear correct to me. Surely there are some functions in libtinfo that you could use and they need headers to reference them? The ncurses headers appear in libncurses5-dev package, but there might be cases where that isn't installed. The problem is that we have two versions of the headers, one in libncurses5-dev and one in libncursesw5-dev, and there does not seem to be a shareable subset suitable for libtinfo-dev. E.g. /usr/include/term.h #includes ncurses_dll.h, and /usr/include/ncursesw/term.h #includes ncursesw/ncurses_dll.h. The sole reason for even having a libtinfo-dev package is that both libncurses5-dev and libncursesw5-dev need libtinfo.so. If we manage to get rid of the non-wide development packages, libtinfo-dev should be merged back into libncursesw5-dev like I did for the 64-bit version in commit 4bbaa7cd3. Bug#644809: [pulseaudio-discuss] Bug#644809: pulseaudio: Confusing warning `PulseAudio configured for per-user sessions`
Am Montag, den 10.10.2011, 10:55 +0200 schrieb Maarten Bosmans: 2011/10/9 Paul Menzel pm.deb...@googlemail.com: X-Debbugs-CC: pulseaudio-disc...@lists.freedesktop.org Damn, I though that this setting would not put sub...@bugs.debian.org into the CC list and the correct bug address 644...@bugs.debian.org. Dear PulseAudio Debian packagers and upstream PA folks, the Debian init script `/etc/init.d/pulseaudio` [1] currently prints a warning when PA is configured in non-system mode. True, I have not thought about that. Hopefully, Sjoerd has an idea. Indeed, given that DSOs installed to subdirectories (!$in_public_dir) are handled separately, I would like to see this made an error by *default* in Debian. Already requested by doko in #609159. It would be nice to have some input on the number of packages which have this warning in their log. I can understand wanting that information as a prerequisite for making this a *mandatory* error, but I'm not sure why that's relevant for making this a configurable option. I assume that there are a non-zero number of packages in the archive that have this warning and that it should *not* be made a mandatory fatal error; but OTOH, I have packages where I know it's always a bug to hit this warning, and I'm currently doing extra work in debian/rules to guard against such an upstream regression (e.g., openldap). It would be better if there were a way to make dpkg-shlibdeps do this directly since it already knows about the issue. (And this furthers my goal of eventually being able to reduce debian/rules in all packages I maintain to debhelper's rules.tiny. :-P) Anyway, please find attached a list of packages whose build logs for the current unstable version contain this warning for any architecture on buildd.debian.org. Results harvested with this script: $ zcat ~/Sources.gz \ | awk '/Package: / { pkg=$2 }; /^Version: / { print pkg $2 }' \ | while read pkg ver; do hash=$(echo $pkg | cut -b1) if [ -n $(bzgrep -l 'symbol .* used by .* found in none' db/$hash/$pkg/$ver/*.bz2 2/dev/null) ] then echo $pkg $ver fi done Note that this picks up a number of false positives because Sources.gz lists the source packages for all binaries in unstable, including some that are out of date due to build failures, but it at least provides a reasonable upper bound (856 unique packages). It also seems to match such curious warnings as this one: m/mawk/1.3.3-15/armel_1248778117_log.bz2:dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: symbol time@GLIBC_2.4 used by mawk found in none of the libraries. Bug#628237: libsasl2-2 breaks auxprop ABI without bumping soname
reassign 628237 cyrus-sasl2 found 628237 2.1.24~rc1.dfsg1+cvs2011-05-23-2 thanks Dear maintainers, Bug #628237 was filed some time ago against the openldap package because the new upstream version of cyrus-sasl2 that was introduced into Debian in May breaks the ABI for auxprop plugins without bumping the library soname. This is not an appropriate way to manage shared library ABIs. Discussion on bug #628237 in July suggested that 2.1.24 might still be under development, and that it might be possible to get the soname fixed upstream before release. However, it seems that in the meantime there have been two new upstream releases and we now have 2.1.25 in unstable, so we're probably stuck with this ABI now. That means the Debian maintainers will need to clean up this upstream mess, by one of the following methods: - changing the soname locally in Debian - changing the library package name to include a Debian suffix while leaving the soname alone (and declaring a Conflicts with libsasl2-2) - leaving the libsasl2-2 package name alone and declaring a versioned Breaks: on packages in the archive which provide auxprop methods and are built against the old ABI. The third solution is probably the one that will cause the least knock-on problems. For slapd, you can use 2.4.25-1.1 as the minimum fixed version (i.e., Breaks: slapd ( 2.4.25-1.1)). -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#644876: initramfs-tools: Boot failure from software RAID1 + LVM2 by timing of mdadm + lvm initiation
Additional thoughts; As I'm no expert on the whole initramfs boot sequence I'm unsure about the total workings of timing of device scanning, mdadm + lvm2 routines and rootdelay. Imho it should be something like this; init Device scanning | some scanning delay parameter (for slow devices) | init Mdadm routine | some mdadm delay parameter? (see #633024) | LVM2 routine | Checking and setting ROOT Again, I'm not too familiar with the current workings but I see these steps are currently running in a more parallel way to speed up the boot process, as the local-top init scripts are called right at the start of the local script. I've confirmed this by trying another method of fixing my problem, instead of my previous fix; Adding 'sleep 10' at the top of /scripts/local-top/mdadm also solves the problem (mdadm is then performed after device scanning) Is there a unifiable way of getting the timings right of all the scripts and still maintaining a quick bootprocess? If not, is it possible to add extra kernel boot options providing the delay options (avoiding manual tampering with the initrd)? I assume that the functions required in libtermcap are provided by libtinfo. That's my assumption as well, and Thomas has not contradicted. agree (tinfo provides terminfo and termcap interfaces, as well as the internal functions of ncurses that those interfaces require). E.g. /usr/include/term.h #includes ncurses_dll.h, and /usr/include/ncursesw/term.h #includes ncursesw/ncurses_dll.h. but ncurses_dll.h is identical in the two. It is ncurses.h that differs. Bug#567863: RFP: Handbrake - video transcoder
Hi, okay, thanks a lot for the update - I was not aware that the position wrt such codecs changed so drastically, but I am glad to hear it. And I agree that handbrake would be a great addition, I use it whenever possible to do recode my videos. The package from the original author, designed for Ubuntu, works fine with Debian testing. I agree that Handbrake is a really great tool. Actually, I did take a look at the sources and found out, that it would require a lot of efford to get it into debian. The reason is that the ship a lot of patched libraries that we already have in debian. I don't think this code duplication is acceptable for the Debian system. That might explain why the executable is 16MiB in size... ;-) (it does not ship any .so files though) Kind regards, Ralf -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#644881: myspell-ru: do not install hunspell dictionaries

It provides a better dictionary for hunspell than rus-ispell, in my experience at least. Myspell-ru package used to provide both myspell and hunspell dictionaries. No, myspell-ru only provides myspell dictionaries, installed per-policy at /usr/share/hunspell. There were previously symlinks from /usr/share/myspell/dicts, and this location was historically used for myspell dicts (and initially for hunspell dicts too) Thus, hunspell-ru has conflict with myspell-ru (= 0.99g5-11). It has to conflict with myspell-ru and replace it, no version. Both cannot be installed at the same time. I was going to ask to remove hunspell dictionaries from myspell-ru package. But since 0.99g5-11 (or 0.99g5-10), myspell-ru does not install myspell dictionaries at all. Which is confusing to me. Is it a bug that myspell-ru does not install myspell dictionaries any more? If it is not a bug, should it have hunspell in the name instead of myspell? If using one of the dictionaries is a matter of taste, I would leave both in the archive, myspell-ru providing old myspell dictionary (also usable by hunspell) and hunspell-ru providing hunspell-only dictionary. By the way, please consider raising dictionaries-comon-dev build-depend in your hunspell-ru package to at least 1.10.5, where ancient openoffice.org snippets stopped being installed. Your package is OK, and is indeed built matching that condition but if rebuilt by someone else in e.g. squeeze, will re-introduce that snippets, and that will soon trigger an error for sid. Package: isc-dhcp-client Version: 4.2.2-1 Followup-For: Bug #643771 Hello, According to the Debian reference, the host name (as set by /etc/hostname) should be non-fqdn, i.e. a simple host name without domain name. DHCP may contain pretty random host/domain names, and changing the host name on the machine might trigger a denial of service as services (including X) can't connect or spawn new processes anymore when a new DHCP packet arrives and the host name is changed while those services are already running. Attached you find a simple patch that strips the domain name part of $new_host_name in /etc/dhclient-script to bring it in line with the Debian reference and user expectations. I'm not going to elaborate on the benefits and drawbacks of using the DHCP host name field; there are probably valid reasons either way and I'm not qualified enough to discuss or acknowledge all possible network configurations. Bug#643287: wx2.8-doc: wx.hhp gzipped
On Tue, Sep 27, 2011 at 09:37:31AM +1000, Kevin Ryde wrote: I tried to open the wx manual in a wxHtmlHelpController with the bit of wxperl below, but it gave an error dialog Cannot open contents file: (no message after the colon). Is the wx.hhp usable by the help system when gzipped? I got some joy from uncompressing it plus wx.hhc.gz and wx.hhk.gz. Could they be provided uncompressed in the package so they can be used? The downside of providing them uncompressed is they're then 4.2MB rather than just under 500KB. That increases the size of the docs by about 50%, which is quite an overhead given these files probably aren't used by many users. I see the help controller thing might accept a .zip file, dunno if that's better than .gz format. I had a look, but that seems to require putting all the HTML files into the zip file as well, which makes them much harder to use for those just wanting the HTML. Perhaps splitting this stuff into a separate package is the best answer. Cheers, Olly -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#644900: apt from testing cannot read archives created with apt-utils from stable
Package: apt Version: 0.8.10.3+squeeze1 Severity: normal Hello, I am creating apt archive using the following script (which uses pool split by release). It works flawlessly with stable apt but with testing I get: W: Failed to fetch copy:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/127.0.0.1_debs_dists_squeeze_live_binary-amd64_Packages Hash Sum mismatch The file is still compressed in this location. Decompressing and checksumming yields the checksum present in the Release file as stable apt correctly determines. There is /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/127.0.0.1_debs_dists_squeeze_live_binary-amd64_Packages.decomp.FAILED which is a copy of the compressed list above. Bug#644901: vlc: makes crackling sounds while playing back audio through ca0106 HDAudio device
Package: vlc Version: 1.1.3-1squeeze6 Severity: normal From changed audio preferences-settings to playing back throuh vlc-plugin-pulse and pulseaudio with 24 bit resulution, I tried a few things to resolve this problem, but did not succeed. It reminds me a bit of a crackling vinyl record. In Preferences/Audio the 'Audio output frequence (Hz)' was set to 96000, 'Replay preamp' was set to 0.00. Enabling the equalizer-filter even worsened the effect. Possibly it has to do with the alsa configuration of the sound-card, I did not really go into that yet, because rhythmbox, exaile and totem play back without any hassle. -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0.3 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'proposed-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/3 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages vlc depends on: ii libaa11.4p5-38 ascii art library ii libc6 2.11.2-10 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libfreetype6 2.4.2-2.1+squeeze1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libfribidi0 0.19.2-1 Free Implementation of the Unicode ii libgcc1 1:4.4.5-8 GCC support library ii libgl1-mesa-glx [libg 7.7.1-5A free implementation of the OpenG ii libqtcore44:4.6.3-4+squeeze1 Qt 4 core module ii libqtgui4 4:4.6.3-4+squeeze1 Qt 4 GUI module ii libsdl-image1.2 1.2.10-2+b2image loading library for Simple D ii libsdl1.2debian 1.2.14-6.1 Simple DirectMedia Layer ii libstdc++64.4.5-8The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libtar1.2.11-6 C library for manipulating tar arc ii libvlccore4 1.1.3-1squeeze6base library for VLC and its modul ii libx11-6 2:1.3.3-4 X11 client-side library ii libx11-xcb1 2:1.3.3-4 Xlib/XCB interface library ii libxcb-keysyms1 0.3.6-1utility libraries for X C Binding ii libxcb-randr0 1.6-1 X C Binding, randr extension ii libxcb-shm0 1.6-1 X C Binding, shm extension ii libxcb-xv01.6-1 X C Binding, xv extension ii libxcb1 1.6-1 X C Binding ii libxext6 2:1.1.2-1 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii ttf-freefont 20090104-7 Freefont Serif, Sans and Mono True ii vlc-nox 1.1.3-1squeeze6multimedia player and streamer (wi ii zlib1g1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3 compression library - runtime Versions of packages vlc recommends: ii vlc-plugin-notify1.1.3-1squeeze6 LibNotify plugin for VLC ii vlc-plugin-pulse 1.1.3-1squeeze6 PulseAudio plugin for VLC Versions of packages vlc suggests: ii mozilla-plugin-vlc 1.1.3-1squeeze6 multimedia plugin for web browsers ii videolan-doc 20070626-1 documentation for the VideoLAN str Versions of packages vlc-nox depends on: ii liba52-0.7.4 0.7.4-14 library for decoding ATSC A/52 str ii libasound21.0.23-2.1 shared library for ALSA applicatio ii libass4 0.9.9-1library for SSA/ASS subtitles rend ii libavahi-client3 0.6.27-2+squeeze1 Avahi client library ii libavahi-common3 0.6.27-2+squeeze1 Avahi common library ii libavc1394-0 0.5.3-1+b2 control IEEE 1394 audio/video devi ii libavcodec52 4:0.5.4-1 ffmpeg codec library ii libavformat52 4:0.5.4-1 ffmpeg file format library ii libavutil49 4:0.5.4-1 ffmpeg utility library ii libc6 2.11.2-10 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libcaca0 0.99.beta17-1 colour ASCII art library ii libcddb2 1.3.2-2library to access CDDB data - runt ii libcdio10 0.81-4 library to read and control CD-ROM ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.24-4+squeeze1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdc1394-22 2.1.2-3high level programming interface f ii libdca0 0.0.5-3decoding library for DTS Coherent ii libdirac-encoder0 1.0.2-3open and royalty free high quality ii libdvbpsi60.1.7-1library for MPEG TS and DVB PSI ta ii libdvdnav44.1.3-7DVD navigation library ii libdvdread4 4.1.3-10 library for reading DVDs ii libebml0 0.7.7-3.1 access library for the EBML format ii libfaad2 2.7-6 freeware Advanced Audio Decoder - ii libflac8 1.2.1-2+b1 Free Lossless Audio Codec - runtim ii libfontconfig12.8.0-2.1 generic font
Bug#642929: proposed fix: use libgtk2-dev with multiarch support

Bug#642608: /usr/bin/dpkg-gencontrol: Race condition with tempfile for parallel builds
On Sat, 24 Sep 2011, James Vega wrote: dpkg-gencontrol generates a tempfile, debian/files.new, and then attempts to rename that back to debian/files when it's done generating the files.new. This can easily break when parallel builds are happening as independent dpkg-gencontrol runs may rename files.new out from underneath each other. This happened in a recent build of the Vim package[0]. I wonder what's the best way to fix this. Using flock() on debian/files.new is not really enough since the file is renamed at the end of the process. Ideally we should use a persistent debian/files.lck that can be safely flock()ed but this temporary file would not be cleaned by any current package, meaning that it would lead to cruft in source packages. The cleanest approach I see is to try to lock the file in a loop until the file is still here (meaning there was no contention and thus no other instance that dropped the file after we opened it and while we were waiting for the lock): while (1) { open(LOCK, , debian/files.lck); flock(LOCK, LOCK_EX); last if -e debian/files.lck; close(LOCK); } # Put code updating debian/files here unlink(debian/files.lck); flock(LOCK, LOCK_UN); close(LOCK); (Ignore the lack of error checking, it's only to explain) Does anyone see possible problems with this approach? Or has anyone something cleaner to suggest? Would it make sense to factorize the logic above in 2 functions in Dpkg::Path? Bug#644571: uses libgnomeprint which is scheduled for removal
Am 10.10.2011 12:53, schrieb Olly Betts: On Fri, Oct 07, 2011 at 10:03:29PM +0200, Michael Biebl wrote: Attached is a patch which disables the gnomeprint support in wxwidgets. This will make wxwidgets use its internal postscript printing code [1]. Did you forget to actually attach the patch? Indeed. Attached now I understand the desire to remove a library deprecated upstream, but unless it's evolved a lot since I last looked, the internal printing code isn't nearly as nice. It is still functional though, right? What exactly would be the problems switching back to the internal printing code and which applications would be seriously affected by this? Has it changed between 2.6 and 2.8? Do you have an approximate timeline for the removal of libgnomeprint? The plan was to remove it for squeeze already and we definitely want to resp. are going to remove it for wheezy. That leaves around 6-7 months of development time until the prospective freeze starts. So we should definitely start any efforts as early as possible. Long term, wxwidgets should be updated to 2.9.x which provides printing support using GtkPrint. Note that 2.9.x is a development series, so probably unsuitable for packaging (until it's declared stable of course). Do you know when such a stable release is planned? What are the plans regarding getting packages updated to 2.8 and removing 2.6? So far, no problems, but I haven't used it enough to be sure. I tried nouveau and had an installation problem. If I encounter the crash again I'll try with nouveau; otherwise it's probably a bug in the old nvidia driver or ABI incompatibility. Bug#644754: openbox: Please document configuration changes to be made after upgrading to 3.5
Hi, * Julien Valroff jul...@debian.org [2011-10-08 20:50]: It would be great to state the changes to be made to one's configuration after upgrading to the 3.5 release in NEWS.Debian. Actually I would like to put the blame on this partly towards upstream since there was no proper documentation for the changes this time for the release. By the way, the 3.5.0-1 package doesn't ship any environment file, but still contains an autostart.sh file which can be misleading for the end user (at least, it was for me). We will update this and the news in the next upload. Bug#644868: gnustep-back-common: postinst fails: Error: for some reason, argv not properly set up during GNUstep base initialization

Now that's why it somehow looked familiar! I even debugged it the same way like back then. :-) Strange that I didn't find that bug when googling for that error message. The only way I see as a workaround is to build gnustep-base with --enable-fake-main, which is already the case on a number of *BSD systems. The fix from back then doesn't help again respectively anymore? However, this change is ABI-incompatible so all GNUstep packages must be binNMUed _again_ on kfreebsd*.
