Bug#644512: sound-juicer: Completely broken track lookup
Package: sound-juicer Version: 2.32.0-1 Severity: important Sound Juicer has been reliable for ages, but suddenly on my Wheezy system, it's behaving weirdly. It happened the other day when trying to rip my Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds *blush* but now it's happened again with a different CD. I'll explain. The CD in question is Steven Wilson's new double album, Grace For Drowning. It's two CDs, CD 1 contains 7 tracks, CD 2 contains 5. When I insert CD 1 to rip, I get http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/4396/screenshotsoundjuicerj.png which is obviously a lot more than 7 tracks. I did some digging on the MusicBrainz site. This album was released in several formats as per http://musicbrainz.org/release-group/3bc197f9-8f06-44eb-af4a-aecf2e313cb2. For some reason, Sound Juicer is picking the track list for 3xCD + 2xBluRay rather than 2xCD. I have just tried to rip CD 2 with 5 tracks and it has again picked up the same listing. It was the same with War of the Worlds, but I don't have the links to hand. I hope this can be fixed easily as it is a terrible UX. Let me know if you need any more data. PS I have just looked at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=631610 and http://musicbrainz.org/doc/libmusicbrainz which might shed some light on the subject. I believe that the upstream libmusicbrainz 4.0 is *not* the same as Debian package libmusicbrainz4c2a (source: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sound-juicer/+bug/455461). I believe that packaging libmusicbrainz4 for Debian, and porting sound-juicer to use it, might be a good idea. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.0.0-1-686-pae (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages sound-juicer depends on: ii gconf2 2.32.4-1 ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-base 0.10.35-1 ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-good 0.10.30-1 ii libatk1.0-0 2.0.1-2 ii libbrasero-media0 2.30.3-3 ii libc6 2.13-21 ii libcanberra-gtk00.28-1 ii libdbus-glib-1-20.94-4 ii libgcc1 1:4.6.1-4 ii libgconf2-4 2.32.4-1 ii libglib2.0-02.28.6-1 ii libgnome-media0 2.30.0-1 ii libgstreamer0.10-0 0.10.35-1 ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.4-3 ii libmusicbrainz3-6 3.0.2-2 ii libpango1.0-0 1.28.4-3 Versions of packages sound-juicer recommends: ii eject 2.1.5+deb1+cvs20081104-8 Versions of packages sound-juicer suggests: ii brasero 2.30.3-3 ii gstreamer0.10-lamenone ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-really-bad none ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly0.10.18-3 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#590579: rt3.8-apache2: Default config fails for rt-mailgate with virtual host
Package: rt3.8-apache2 Version: 3.8.8-1 Severity: normal Hi, I was getting 403 forbidden from rt-mailgate with the default configuration. I eventually traced it down to the following stanza in /etc/request-tracker3.8/apache2-fastcgi.conf: # Limit mail gateway access to localhost by default Location /rt/REST/1.0/NoAuth Order Allow,Deny Allow from 127.0.0.1 /Location This fails for cases where the request is not from localhost e.g. with a VM config. The solution is to change 127.0.0.1 to the hostname of the machine. I think this should be documented somewhere as it's not an obvious solution. More discussion at http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/rt/users/85179. NB This would look to affect all files matching /etc/request-tracker3.8/apache2-*.conf, not just fastcgi. Bug#590281: cups: 4 second delay after upgrade to squeeze
Package: cups Version: 1.4.4-1 Severity: important Hi, After lenny-squeeze, our printers are exhibiting a 4 second delay upon printing. They are Ethernet EPOS receipt printers, and we use the socket backend. Configuration looks like: Printer Gamma Info Gamma MakeModel Generic text-only printer DeviceURI socket://192.168.21.22:9100 State Idle StateTime 1269438833 Type 4100 Filter application/vnd.cups-raw 0 - Filter text/plain 0 textonly Accepting Yes Shared Yes JobSheets none none QuotaPeriod 0 PageLimit 0 KLimit 0 OpPolicy default ErrorPolicy stop-printer /Printer With a simple command like lpr -P Gamma /etc/passwd, there is a four-second delay before the printout commences. This did not happen in lenny, where they worked flawlessly. I've attached an error log - the timestamps actually show the delay, which is probably useful, as it shows it's a CUPS-related problem. Package: pm-utils Version: 1.3.0-1 Severity: important Tags: squeeze On occasion (enough to be extremely annoying, maybe 30% of the time), my workstation resumes from hibernate successfully up to the point where my X display should reappear. However, the screen is blank (but the backlight is on). I can login via another X session and note that all the processes on the first session are running normally, CPU is not maxed out etc. In addition, I know that the processes are running because if I switch back to the faulty screen, I can type my password into the screensaver and I see the hard drive light activity as the screen is unlocked. I can press Alt-F2 and see more activity as Gnome loads the run program dialog. I don't know how to debug this but I'm all ears. It might be worth pointing out that during the day, I use grandr to switch LVDS off and run the machine via the VGA output, but I always do the reverse before telling the machine to hibernate. I will assume it is and give a straight answer. The answer is: I am hoping to run the application. FYI, all Glib applications spit information -- warnings, errors, other information out into the terminal regardless of any debug flag. I do not see this as a problem. If you don't see it as a problem, it's probably because you are only ever clicking on icons to open applications, STDOUT is redirected to .xsession-errors or a bitbucket or $somewhere_else, and you assume that everybody does that. However for some users it clearly is a problem. If it wants to write to STDERR to report something exceptional then that's different, but as I said originally, routinely clobbering STDOUT with junk is unacceptable. Banshee does the same, just on a slightly larger scale. And the --debug flag exists to spit out even more information than is already spat out to the terminal. Great. Bug#556846: libcurses-ui-perl: Solaris-specific hack breaks expected behaviour (at least on Linux)
Package: libcurses-ui-perl Version: 0.9605-1.5 Severity: important Tags: patch I have a reasonably large application that uses Curses::UI and Curses::UI::POE. When keyboard input is buffered because the app is blocking, things get out of sync when the app returns - keys get lost and the app is thereafter one key behind. The problem was eventually narrowed down to the following part of /usr/share/perl5/Curses/UI.pm # See if there are pending keys on input. If I do not # feed them to the application in this way, the screen # hangs in case I do a lot of input on my Solaris # machine. $key = $self-get_key(0); $self-feedkey($key) unless $key eq '-1'; This is something of a hack. On my Linux machine, commenting out the above causes correct behaviour, whereby keypresses are buffered and dealt with when the app returns from its blocking behaviour. I'm raising this bug as I'd like to implement the patch in Debian, but would welcome input from other members of the Debian Perl team. I will raise the issue upstream as well. Bug#534301: ratpoison: Third-party comprehensive default config could be included
Package: ratpoison Version: 1.4.3-1 Severity: wishlist Hi, I just moved to ratpoison from stumpwm as the latter crashes too much. Just when I was banging my head against the wall wondering how I was going to get a good default config going, I found Daniel Webb's example config at http://danielwebb.us/software/ratpoison/ (look for the .tar.gz). Perhaps this could be included in the examples directory and referred to in README.Debian, to give us ratpoison newbies a substantial advantage? Bug#520685: stumpwm: When returning from screensaver, keyboard doesn't respond
Package: stumpwm Version: 1:20080721-2 Severity: normal Hi, Sometimes when returning from xscreensaver, my xorg session doesn't respond to /any/ keypresses, either in the active window, or C-t stumpwm commands. My workaround is to go to a console window, kill stumpwm, and re-run it. I /believe/ that this only happens after a lock and password-type - I think when the screensaver kicks in, all works fine if I press a key to interrupt the screensaver before it locks and asks for a password (half an hour later or so on this box). This doesn't happen with other WMs, so I'm assuming it's a stump bug. When it occurs, the mouse /does/ still work - I can click links in Iceweasel etc. I know nothing about Lisp, but if you have any ideas how I can assist debugging this issue, I'll try to help. Bug#498662: libgtk2.0-0: Some fonts too large on 130dpi display
Package: libgtk2.0-0 Version: 2.12.11-3 Severity: normal Hi, This problem manifests itself on a laptop display, 1680x1050, 15 widescreen. Here are the specs from xdpyinfo: screen #0: dimensions:1680x1050 pixels (331x207 millimeters) resolution:129x129 dots per inch I have a fresh lenny install, and no .gtkrc files in my home directory. Some fonts are massive by default, which looks a bit silly, as well as being inconvenient. However, it's only certain GTK fonts that are affected. For example, everything in rhythmbox is affected. In iceweasel, the menu bar and tab bar are affected, but the actual web page is fine (different renderer?). I assume this is something to do with libgtk trying to compensate for the 130dpi by making the font larger. Leaving aside the principle of whether this is desirable behaviour (I chose a high resolution display to get more on the screen, not have fonts automagically change size), I think it's over-compensating. But really it shouldn't compensate at all, in my opinion. I have a 100dpi 1680x1050 display on another machine, running the same software, and it's fine. Of course, this may not be a libgtk bug, but I assume it is, as default fonts in non-gtk apps are fine (nice and small on this screen). I have taken a couple of screenshots to illustrate[1]. Please let me know if I can provide any more useful information about my setup in order to debug this. D [09/Jul/2008:00:51:41 +0100] PID 4656 (/usr/lib/cups/daemon/cups-deviced) exited with no errors. I noted that cups runs as root, and sure enough, running cups-deviced as root (with arbitrary parameters) gave the same result: # /usr/lib/cups/daemon/cups-deviced 1 10 1 all DEBUG: [cups-deviced] Added device http... Content-Type: application/ipp snip However, the same command as a normal user worked for the serial backend if not others (snip follows): DEBUG: [cups-deviced] Added device serial:/dev/ttyS0?baud=115200... I then tried configuring a suitable printer directly in printers.conf. When I tried printing to it, I got: E [09/Jul/2008:01:03:02 +0100] PID 4767 (/usr/lib/cups/backend/serial) stopped with status 1! E [09/Jul/2008:01:03:02 +0100] [Job 217] Unable to open device file /dev/ttyS0: Permission denied This led me to suspect permissions, and sure enough, changing /dev/ttyS0 to 0666 worked. I didn't really understand this, as root had rw permissions anyway. I had a glance at scheduler/cups-deviced.c, and there is certainly some magic there relating to the user that it runs the backend as. Unfortunately, I don't have time to delve deeper, but see comments around line 204. I don't want /dev/ttyS0 to be world readable/writeable, but I don't see what else to do for now. NB lp is already in my dialout group, that didn't help. Anyway, this wasn't documented anywhere that I can see. I'm not sure what you think is the best way forward, but at the very least, I think this should be documented in README.Debian[1], with suitable guidance given as to possible permission settings for the serial port. Better still, it should just work. Thanks, Antony [1] Another thing - could we please have a README.Debian in /usr/share/doc/cups that at least points to /usr/share/doc/libcups2/README.Debian.gz? Bug#446405: ardour: Embeds too many libs
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, It's a shame this hasn't been looked at yet. I hope ardour makes it into Lenny. I have been doing a little research into this, and according to http://ardour.org/building, there is: SYSLIBS USE AT YOUR OWN RISK: CANCELS ALL SUPPORT FROM ARDOUR AUTHORS. Use existing system versions of various libraries instead of internal ones (yes|no) I don't know if this works well yet, as I can't build ardour currently due to a bug in scons, but it might be worth considering. Also of course, is it more important to have upstream support or Debian security support? It appears that it will have to be either one or the other. Alternatively, I suppose that the Debian version could use SYSLIBS=yes, and if bugs are reported, Debian would have to replicate them on a SYSLIBS=no version before reporting them to upstream. Bug#404701: wmcalc: Buggy math, not suitable for release
severity 404701 normal thanks Gunnar Wolf wrote: I am degrading this bug from RC to wishlist - This program _is_ working as it is often expected. Wmcalc mimics a pocket calculator, where all operators have equal precedence, as its interface lacks (or, to be more correct, is designed not to provide, in order to save space) parentheses or other means to properly provide nesting and proper precedence. Hi Gunnar, If even upstream admits it's a bug and should behave differently, how can you suggest that it's expected behaviour? This may not be RC, but it's more than wishlist. Upgrading to normal severity. Wmcalc is designed to be as small as possible. Given its interface, I would be surprised by it if it applied higher precedence to some operators than to others. I expect any such program to act at least as well as the crappiest pocket calculator, which IME implements proper precedence rules. Bug#349536: 0.58 now out
The version in Etch (0.37) hails from January 2005, and you haven't responded to this bug, from January 2006. Is there any chance of an upgrade? Latest version is 0.58. Generally speaking, Plone / Zope products evolve quite quickly, and it's annoying for users to have to install them manually when there is an obsolete version sitting in Debian. That is, if we even realise that it is obsolete - we tend to assume that the Debian package is reasonably up to date, especially in testing. I note that you have not been active for a while - I can't find much recent bug or mailing list activity, and even though I know that's not the only way to find out if you're active, I respectfully ask that if you can't maintain your packages, to orphan them and give them to someone who can, as us users are losing out.
