¿Me pierdo algo?
Gracias anticipadas
Me he leido la documentación y me pierdo.

Me entendeis mi duda metodica y machacona, ¿no?

-- Ricardo Villalba [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://members.xoom.com/rvmsoft

I personally have ssh-agent forwarding turned off by default. 2. the danger that somebody would steal you private key, and run a off-line dictionary attack to try and guess your passphrase. Kernel compilation
Under the most recent Corel Linux I compiled 2.2.14 for a notebook and everything went fine. I can ping around the globe, do nslookups, and dig. I also can ping back and forth within my intranet. No worries here. However, any browser, whatsoever refuses to bring up web pages from the internet. Telnet, ftp etc. do not connect. lo and eth0 are up and running just fine. route table is fine too. Re: Installation help
David Wright wrote: Quoting Sunil Pandey ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): This may not be the correct place to ask but since it is related to debian installation, I would ask it anyway. Thing is debian allows a way to install through existing dos. Now, my comp already has Win-2000 and that would not let me boot into dos. can someone suggest a way to do this. This is precisely the correct place. My answer might not be quite so precise... For linux, you're going to need (at least) two partitions, one for swap and one for linux. Create your swap-sized partition but make it a dos partition and copy the appropriate installation files to it. Make a dos boot floppy and boot from it. Find out what dos has called your dos partition, say X:, and where your files are, presumably X:\. Type X: - the drive letter cd \ - the directory loadlin linux root=/dev/ram initrd=disks-1.44/root.bin Do the installation, but choose Do without a swap partition when it offers to create one. At some time in the future, whenever you've got your base system installed, and the dos partition is now redundant, mkswap -c /dev/hdaX (-c checks for bad blocks, choose hdaX appropriately), edit /etc/fstab to add the single line, again appropriately, /dev/hdaX none swap sw 0 0 swapon -a /dev/hdaX (to make it use it) all as root. Double check the partition name before you mkswap it. (Perhaps mount -t msdos /dev/hdaX /mnt first and then umount /mnt as a check.) Cheers, Alternatively, if your W2K drive is not NTFS formatted (i.e., it's Fat32 or Fat16), just copy your installation files to that drive and then boot off a Win98 floppy (borrow one) to boot into DOS mode. However, if your drive is NTFS format, do the above (it looks scary, because there's so much writing, but it's really fairly simple).

These directories should always be on the root partition. Things under /usr (and /var) may well be on separate partitions; if the machine is booted single-user, anything on these won't be available. So things that are useful in normal use, but can be foregone when doing basic maintenance, go in /usr/bin or /usr/sbin. /usr/local is purely for the local administrator; Debian packages should never do anything here (except perhaps to create a directory). /usr/doc, /usr/info and /usr/man are the old places for storing documentation. This is being superseded by /usr/share/..., though in potato there should be symlinks to /usr/doc/... to keep things looking the same. The distinction between bin and sbin is that sbin contains programs that should only be needed by the system administrator. These directories should not be in the path for normal users. Re: paths (/usr/this, /usr/that)
A very simplistic (and rough) answer would be: /lib /bin are to do with the real core of unix/linux, like the kernel modules live in /lib/modules /usr/lib /usr/bin are the applications/libraries that run on top of the core unix/linux, things that the users make use of, hence '/usr' /usr/local/lib /usr/local/lbin are the apps/libraries that are specific to one machine, i.e. an application that is installed but is not part of the debian distribution I hope this gives some small explianation... Re: Partitioning
Quoth Oswald Buddenhagen, remark: kernel 2.4 will support ntfs write access (even though still experimental, i think). so you would not need a share partition I'm by no means a kernel hacker, but I try to read Kernel Traffic pretty regularly. My impression was that NTFS support is currently unmaintaied, and it is planned to be dropped from the kernel some time in the not too distant future. I asked: Please help us reproduce an elusive bash bug. Ethan Benson [EMAIL PROTECTED] replied: ask them if they are using kernel 2.3.99 (or maybe some earlier 2.3.* kernel) there has been some notes about this on the kernel list. apparently the kernel has a bug or `feature' where it returns the wrong error. it has nothing to do with bash iirc. What a lot of cap's -sorry folks. I've set the damn thing up w/ both xf86config XF86Setup, all to no avail, the Mach64-server refuses to work properly. On startx, I get loads of errors, all amounting to insufficient ram. X aborts with no modelines available. So I take a look at it in vi, and it seems the amount of ram I selected (4Mb) is commented out?!?!. When I uncomment this, I get 1024, 768, and 640 modes, and X runs. BUT: I get about 5 slightly offset screens, and I'm unable to communicate with it... When running the SVGA server, it detects the Mach64 chipset and all 4 megs ram ok, and gives me a pretty ugly face, from which I am typing this... Maybe someone using this card could send me their XF86Config for reference? Thanx Vitux -- Death comes to us in various guises, swiftly changing as a baby's mood...
