Thank you for coming back to say it worked. I saw this thread
yesterday and thought I understood you wanted to change same thing I
did. I found those same instructions but missed that "minor detail"
about clicking on "Window Buttons". Just tried it again, and mine's
now fixed, too.

Feels like old times on this desktop.. Very happy! I don't know why
it's easier for my brain to pick what it needs from that mess of
buttons strewn across the top, but it is (much easier). The "never
group" option has the added bonus of being a constant nag that browser
windows need archived and closed, permanently if not sooner. :)

You see how this works now, right?

Did you see the responses you got to your question? I'd like you to
think for a moment.

Why did you get these responses?

It's because your question was so vague, so utterly devoid of information,
that everyone reading the question had to come up with their own
interpretation of WHAT. YOU. WANTED.

If you would like USEFUL answers to your question, next time, please
consider taking a few minutes to write out a question that the people
reading the mailing list can actually understand, and answer in a
useful fashion, without having to speculate about the missing details.

The one thing that you got right was that you said which version of
Debian you're targeting. Good. Keep that up.

Beyond that? Nobody could figure out that you were trying to connect
to an existing proprietary database. Because you didn't tell us that.

Change root subvolume on btrfs

2021-10-27 Thread piorunz

Hello,

I have / partition on btrfs subvolume, default name @rootfs created by
Debian.

I'd like to use Timeshift for snapshots, but it only recognizes root on
@ subvolume, any other subvolume name is being ignored. Pretty stupid to
me, but I'd like to use it - I don't see other way to have snapshots.

Question:
How can I rename / subvolume on btrfs from @rootfs to @?
I tried:
rename folder name by hand from USB stick Linux Mint from @rootfs to @,
and then changing @rootfs to @ in /etc/fstab, but grub didn't booted, it
thrown me out to grub emergency console. I had to revert it back.

What else I need to do to make this change? Chroot to debian and do sudo
update-grub? If so, how? There is many conflicting tutorials how can I
chroot to do update-grub that I am lost. I will welcome any suggestions.

Some context:
$ sudo btrfs subvolume list /
ID 256 gen 176714 top level 5 path @rootfs
ID 265 gen 21191 top level 256 path var/lib/portables
ID 266 gen 21192 top level 256 path var/lib/machines

/etc/fstab lines:

UUID=77ba5989-5d64-4929-9145-ede6751a4102   /
btrfs
noatime,nodiratime,space_cache=v2,ssd,compress-force=zstd:6,subvol=@rootfs
0 1
(...)
UUID=9A94-D623  /boot/efi
vfatumask=0077 0 1

I use UEFI with GPT, no CSM, it that matters for anything.

1. It found an open wifi network
2. It's plugged into your ethernet
3. Your wife gave it the wifi password

I am just curious about how did this work and could a
person cause it to log on to our WiFi network and receive a video

Quite possibly. The systems for this is called several names, but
the most likely are UPNP, DLNA, ChromeCast or AirPlay.

What I am actually thinking of is more like a DVR where a
computer can record a TV show like the old-school VCR's and then
one could play it back through the DVD player on the network.

Suitable Debian packages include:

mythtv
vdr
kodi
and for music, many others.

This player can also update it's firmware when necessary
and we've never been prompted from it for a WiFi password. It
just seems to be able to get through when it needs to.

That's suggestive of already knowing your wifi password or being
on a wired network.

If there is no ethernet cable attached to the player, you could try to
reset it to factory default and try to reconnected to your network.

As Windows 10 can't access the card either then it seems likely your
hardware is not compatible. Curious though. For example,
https://www.notebookcheck.net/First-Impressions-Lenovo-ThinkPad-T480s-i5-WQHD-Laptop.284832.0.html
tested SDXC card performance on T480s. I guess it's possible your
specific T480s has a different card reader. Maybe you can check the
laptop's specific configuration with its serial number?

Well, external card readers are cheap and one assumes your camera can
connect to the PC with USB.

Perhaps this link

Specially the following text is interesting:

For my raspi-like hosts I avoid to buy A2 cards. With my A1 sdxc cards I

What is libc5-i686 | lib32gcc1 (proliant package dependencies)

Hi all,

I have a .deb package from HP (hp-health) that has this requirement, and
doesn't install because of it. It got damaged somehow during the last

I have both libc6:i386 and lib32gcc-s1 (on an AMD 64bit machine).
libc6-i686:i386 is tagged 'rc' transitional dummy package.

HP doesn't seem to be inclined to update their support packages. Should I
force the install, rebuild the package with a different DEBIAN/control, or
something else?

BTW, is the latter option just dpkg-deb -R followed by dpkg-deb -b?

Thanks for any hint

libc6, or libc5? The Subject line says the latter, but AFAIK the latter
hasn't been a thing for Quite A Long While Now (if indeed at all).

What version? On my system (tracking testing+stable), libc6:i386 is
available at versions 2.32-4 and 2.31-13+deb11u2, and neither one of
them is a transitional or a dummy package. I check with 'apt-cache
policy libc6:i386' and then 'apt-cache show libc6:i386'.

The 'rc' tag, as reported by e.g. 'dpkg -l', indicates "this package
used to be installed, but it's been removed, although its configuration
files have been left behind". I believe the 'r' stands for 'removed' and
the 'c' for 'config-files' or similar. So, if that's what you have
showing, then you don't actually have this package installed at the
moment. It seems possible that this might have been what changed during
the dist-upgrade you mentioned.

> HP doesn't seem to be inclined to update their support packages.
> Should I force the install, rebuild the package with a different

If the dependencies actually list a package and version that aren't
available, for something as fundamental as the C library, I wouldn't
expect any good results from overriding the dependencies like that;
there might well be an actual incompatibility, such that at best you'd
get an installed program that wouldn't run.

> BTW, is the latter option just dpkg-deb -R followed by dpkg-deb -b?

That I don't know.

Maybe not quite what you are looking for, but consider apt-cacher-ng.
This will put a local cache on your network for all your .deb packages.
