[Bug 226468] Re: LEAVE my tags the way they are

2008-05-06 Thread Interpreter
It seems to be just Rhythmbox's meta data base.
Ex Falso shows the correct tags, which means according to EF I would not need
to edit the tags in the first place.

So let me rephrase the entire problem:
RB already READS incorrect metadata or at least shows incorrect data; only
files that are affected by that seem to be affected by the editing issue as
well.

[Bug 227186] [NEW] Evince doesn't print PDF files

2008-05-06 Thread Gabriel Acevedo H.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Hello,

I can't print PDF files, using Evince Document Viewer, in Ubuntu 8.04
LTS. Note that in Ubuntu 7.10 I used to print with no problems using
Evince.

I do can print using OpenOffice or xPDF (which uses lpr), but Evince
just won't. No error messages, no printer icon in gnome-panel, just...
nothing.

Information about my system:

[Bug 227190] [NEW] symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/gst-0.10/gst/_gst.so: undefined symbol: gst_control_source_get_type

2008-05-06 Thread Benjamin Moll
Public bug reported:

When trying to run 'gnome-app-install' under Hardy I get the error
message:

/usr/bin/python: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/python2.5/site-
packages/gst-0.10/gst/_gst.so: undefined symbol:
gst_control_source_get_type

I don't know if this is related, but I get a similar error when starting
pidgin, which is why I installed Pidgin 2.4.0 instead of the repo-
pidgin.

Please tell me, if you need further information.

[Bug 180087] Re: Processes tab causes GLib error

2008-05-06 Thread BandD
Well I was able to fix the problem AND keep my icon set, though the
average user isn't going to want to go through the hassle of this VERY
ugly fix.

It seems that the system monitor doesn't like to use .svg images as
icons; rather it likes .png images. So to resolve this issue I had to
'hide' my firefox icon originally found in
/home/.icons/custom_set/scalable/apps/firefox.svg in a new folder I
created within that same director (named whatever you choose, I choose
firefox. Then I tracked down where the default firefox icons were
kept, which was in /usr/lib/firefox-3.0b5/icons/. I think the really
important one here is mozicon128.png as /usr/share/pixmaps/firefox-3.0
is linked to mozicon128.png. So I opened up Gimp and saved my original
firefox.svg icon as a 128px x 128px .png (and as a 16x16 and 48x48, just
to be safe as files of these sizes also exist in
/usr/lib/firefox-3.0b5/icons/) named mozicon128.png (and mozicon16.png
and mozicon50.png) to a convenient folder. Then I replaced the files in
/usr/lib/firefox-3.0b5/icons/ with my newly created files--you need root
privileges for this. The last thing I had to do was change the path for
my firefox panel launcher. For this I choose my original .svg icon in
it's newly created folder in /home/.icons.../firefox/.

So now firefox and the system monitor work together in harmony. But it
took me an hour of looking for the various icons and testing different
situations out. If someone follows my instructions here, then they will
probably be ready to go in 15-20 minutes, maybe less. But it is an
awful lot of work and if other icons cause similar issues then the whole
process will start over again.

So with that said, the System Monitor should be programmed to find more
suitable icons if it doesn't like the one that is set as the user's
preference. If it comes across a .svg then if should skip it and move
on to the next directory until it finds a suitable .png file instead--as
the panel, nautilus, and all other programs do. A .svg icon should not
keep the system monitor from running. So I agree with Frank.

I've attached the icon causing the issue. The original path was
/home/.icons/CURRENT ICON SET/scalable/apps/firefox.png

[Bug 150443] Re: Compiz in Gutsy Beta: No workspace switching with mousewheel

2008-05-06 Thread Sebastian Busch
No, this is unfortunately not fixed in Hardy.

To Saïvann and Oliver: I also think that this bug is /not/ a duplicate
of bug #175986 because here, the aim is to _add_ the feature of changing
the viewport by scrolling the mouse wheel over the Desktop Switcher
whereas the other issue is to _change the default to disabled_ of the
feature of changing the viewport by scrolling the mouse wheel over the
Desktop Background.

[Bug 148325] Re: Certain processes show incorrect memory usage when using xgl

2008-05-06 Thread raghav
Well, I can confirm the same behavior on x86_64 with hardy as well.

Originally put up as a question on Ubuntu forums
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4892471), I was directed here.

Though I dont mean to be critical, but the overall situation about this
bug looks strange. On Gnome, its marked as RESOLVED, and still we are
facing it in latest gnome build in hardy. There it says in Resolution
tag as NOTGNOME, which I interpret as gnome team deciding that its not a
gnome bug.

anybody knows where to track it further ?

I confirm this issue on firefox 3.0~b5+nobinonly-0ubuntu3.

What happens:
The Launch Application dialog appears with no options available.

What should happen:
Either xchat should launch and connect to the channel, or the Launch

[Bug 227209] [NEW] Can't empty trash when it contains read only folder with files

[Bug 227228] [NEW] [Hardy] screen resolution setup is not preserved between logins

2008-05-06 Thread Grant Ingram
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Having manually edited of xorg.conf to set Virtual as described in bug
#220563 on my system I find that the screen-resolution settings are not
preserved between different logins.

Go to System - Preferences - Screen Resolution and set up dual
monitors. This generally works once the manual bit of xorg.conf is set,
though it usually takes a couple of attempts to get everything the right
way around.

I expect the settings to be preserved between logins but in practice I
have to use the screen-resolution tool every login as the system
defaults to one monitor or cloned monitors.

[Bug 199270] Re: Nautilus clutters up my desktop with icons when I browse to an SMB share

2008-05-06 Thread alzibub
I can confirm this behaviour. When I run the nautilus file browser, my
desktop gets covered with icons representing every single directory
under my home dir (which is an NFS mount). If I do not run the file
browser, only the icons under $HOME/Desktop appear.

Once the icons have appeared, the only way to get rid of them is to
reboot. Simply logging out, and then logging back in does not work.

Please see the attached screen shot.

I believe this is a bug rather than a feature as the icons suggest that
I have separately mounted each subdirectory via nautilus, whereas
actually I just have a single mount point, namely my home directory.

My current workaround is just to not use the nautilus file browser.

[Bug 225722] [NEW] Gnome panels freeze on login until timeout expires. Applets die. Hardy Heron 08.04

2008-05-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When login at work using my local drive user account, but connected to
my employer's network, my Gnome panels are frozen for 1 or 2 minutes
until a timeout expires. Once the timeout expired, the Gnome panels
become responsive. However, applets OOFIID:Gnome_BrightnessApplet and
OOFIID:Gnome_MixerApplet die (see attached screenshot).

This occurs once in a while. I cannot figure out what network
dependency does Gnome have to my job's network. The first issue would
be to find a way to enable debugging to trace what is going one.
Attached, my .xsession-errors, but it is not helpful.

It does not occur if I am not connected to any network or connected to a
network other than the one at work.

Hardy Heron 08.04 final.

[Bug 227244] [NEW] gnome-screensaver hacks requiring white background are using black background instead

2008-05-06 Thread Lex Landa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

When previewing a screensaver hack in System/Preferences/Screensaver and
where the hack is one requiring a white background (e.g. substrate), the
preview appears correctly (white background) for the first preview and
after that, it will be incorrectly rendered with a black background.
Closing the screensaver window and opening it again fixes the preview,
but the hack is still rendered incorrectly when the screensaver
activates.

If gnome-screensaver is uninstalled and the xscreensaver package
installed, the problem goes away.

One additional small observation: Under gutsy, switching worked by

pressing the left Alt key. Under hardy, this is reversed, i.e. I need to

[Bug 220894] Re: wrong keymap when autologin

2008-05-06 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively [WWW]
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW]
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!
