[Bug 226468] Re: LEAVE my tags the way they are
It seems to be just Rhythmbox's meta data base. Ex Falso shows the correct tags, which means according to EF I would not need to edit the tags in the first place. So let me rephrase the entire problem: RB already READS incorrect metadata or at least shows incorrect data; only files that are affected by that seem to be affected by the editing issue as well. -- LEAVE my tags the way they are https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226468 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 180087] Re: Processes tab causes GLib error
Well I was able to fix the problem AND keep my icon set, though the average user isn't going to want to go through the hassle of this VERY ugly fix. It seems that the system monitor doesn't like to use .svg images as icons; rather it likes .png images. So to resolve this issue I had to 'hide' my firefox icon originally found in /home/.icons/custom_set/scalable/apps/firefox.svg in a new folder I created within that same director (named whatever you choose, I choose firefox. Then I tracked down where the default firefox icons were kept, which was in /usr/lib/firefox-3.0b5/icons/. I think the really important one here is mozicon128.png as /usr/share/pixmaps/firefox-3.0 is linked to mozicon128.png. So I opened up Gimp and saved my original firefox.svg icon as a 128px x 128px .png (and as a 16x16 and 48x48, just to be safe as files of these sizes also exist in /usr/lib/firefox-3.0b5/icons/) named mozicon128.png (and mozicon16.png and mozicon50.png) to a convenient folder. Then I replaced the files in /usr/lib/firefox-3.0b5/icons/ with my newly created files--you need root privileges for this. The last thing I had to do was change the path for my firefox panel launcher. For this I choose my original .svg icon in it's newly created folder in /home/.icons.../firefox/. So now firefox and the system monitor work together in harmony. But it took me an hour of looking for the various icons and testing different situations out. If someone follows my instructions here, then they will probably be ready to go in 15-20 minutes, maybe less. But it is an awful lot of work and if other icons cause similar issues then the whole process will start over again. So with that said, the System Monitor should be programmed to find more suitable icons if it doesn't like the one that is set as the user's preference. If it comes across a .svg then if should skip it and move on to the next directory until it finds a suitable .png file instead--as the panel, nautilus, and all other programs do. A .svg icon should not keep the system monitor from running. So I agree with Frank. I've attached the icon causing the issue. The original path was /home/.icons/CURRENT ICON SET/scalable/apps/firefox.png ** Attachment added: firefox.svg http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14248577/firefox.svg -- Processes tab causes GLib error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/180087 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 199270] Re: Nautilus clutters up my desktop with icons when I browse to an SMB share
I can confirm this behaviour. When I run the nautilus file browser, my desktop gets covered with icons representing every single directory under my home dir (which is an NFS mount). If I do not run the file browser, only the icons under $HOME/Desktop appear. Once the icons have appeared, the only way to get rid of them is to reboot. Simply logging out, and then logging back in does not work. Please see the attached screen shot. I believe this is a bug rather than a feature as the icons suggest that I have separately mounted each subdirectory via nautilus, whereas actually I just have a single mount point, namely my home directory. My current workaround is just to not use the nautilus file browser. ** Attachment added: Nautilus-creates-spurious-desktop-icons.png http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14251444/Nautilus-creates-spurious-desktop-icons.png -- Nautilus clutters up my desktop with icons when I browse to an SMB share https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199270 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 225722] [NEW] Gnome panels freeze on login until timeout expires. Applets die. Hardy Heron 08.04
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When login at work using my local drive user account, but connected to my employer's network, my Gnome panels are frozen for 1 or 2 minutes until a timeout expires. Once the timeout expired, the Gnome panels become responsive. However, applets OOFIID:Gnome_BrightnessApplet and OOFIID:Gnome_MixerApplet die (see attached screenshot). This occurs once in a while. I cannot figure out what network dependency does Gnome have to my job's network. The first issue would be to find a way to enable debugging to trace what is going one. Closing the screensaver window and opening it again fixes the preview, but the hack is still rendered incorrectly when the screensaver activates. If gnome-screensaver is uninstalled and the xscreensaver package installed, the problem goes away. [Bug 227255] [NEW] gnome-terminal '--class a' kills all terminals
Public bug reported: gnome-terminal 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 in Hardy. 'gnome-terminal --class something' kills all running gnome-terminals. I was using the --class option to be able to match on this window manager attribute before Ubuntu 8.04 and it was working without any problems. [Bug 164057] Re: problem with keyboard layout swiching
I am experiencing exactly the same issue as Dagfinn Ilmari Mannsåker. How can I see my XKB rules? What other information can I provide that could be helpful? One additional small observation: Under gutsy, switching worked by pressing and holding the right Alt key (Alt Gr) and subsequently pressing the left Alt key. Under hardy, this is reversed, i.e. I need to press and hold the left Alt key, then press the right Alt key. [Bug 227268] [NEW] GDM Settings do not open
Public bug reported: Since Hardy, I can't get the GDM Settings dialog to open anymore. I have installed Hardy on three computers now (2 of them laptops, the other not, all fresh installations) and on none of these machines is it possible anymore to open the dialog. It worked fine in Feisty. Even trying to open it from the console using sudo does not work. All processes stay in the process list until killed. [Bug 227270] [NEW] file-roller sets parent directory rights to 700
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: file-roller While extracting a ZIP (or RAR) file to a remote SSH directory, the rights of that remote directory where everything is extracted are set to 700. While extracting to a local directory the rights are not touched. I am using Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy with file-roller version 2.22.2-0ubuntu1. [Bug 220894] Re: wrong keymap when autologin
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively [WWW] http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW] http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
