[Bug 553803] [NEW] Desktop boarder problem caused by theme changes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Whenever I change a theme, a white boarder (~1 pixel outline) appears around the edge of the desktop. I might not sound like much, but it's rather annoying... I've tried changing themes multiple times, wiping it off (covering it with menus/windows), but nothing like that seems to work. However, performing a killall nautilus does correct the issue* One final detail: it's more than just a visual artifact of some kind - the (right-click) menu cannot/will not open on the line - only on the main part of the desktop. *killing nautilus used to be a pain, as it was always difficult, unreliable, and slow to reload. To whoever/whatever has changed to correct this and make it reappear flawlessly and promptly (as it now does), my deepest thanks go out to you for this!! It's simple little experience enhancements like this that can take something from feeling thick, slow, and bloated, to feeling lightweight, clean, and efficient! ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Binary package hint: nautilus Whenever I change a theme, a white boarder (~1 pixel outline) appears around the edge of the desktop. [Bug 553839] [NEW] Inconsistent field saving when pressing Esc
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center When changing text fields in About me dialog, the behavior of Esc key is inconsistent. All the changes are saved, except for the textbox currently having focus. How to reproduce: 1. Open About me. 2. Enter, e.g. one in Jabber, press Tab, enter two in Yahoo. 3. Do not leave the Yahoo text box, press Esc. 4. Open About me again. Expected behavior: Either all the changes are saved - both one and two are present, or none - both fields remain as before. Actual behavior: one is saved, two is not. This happens just with a field having focus when Esc is pressed. Close button saves all the changes, though. [Bug 553835] [NEW] gdm logon screen and ubuntu desktop theme color inconsistency
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm The gdm theme uses light gray panels and input boxes. However, the default Lucid theme is Ambiance, a very dark theme. Seems very unprofessional that the panel colors in the logon screen do not match the panel colors in the Ambiance theme. It wouldn't be as shocking if the default theme were Radiance. Personally, I would think the dark colors used by gdm in Karmic would be a closer fit, though they probably don't match Ambiance. [Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment
@Mark: For Ambiance/Radiance new themes... why not. But concerning other themes, for instance Dust, what will be the final position? When side have been made theme dependant a few days ago, old themes came back to their right side origins... Only new defaults were left. Yesterday, after updates, Dust become left sided... Maybe other themes are also affected, I didn't try them all? So my last questions: -Is this an error for Dust that will be corrected? -If this is not a mistake, will left side propagate to all themes before release? If a subset of proposed themes will go left, can we have a list? IMO, old themes should remain right... new position should come with new themes only: This would permit to those who prefer their current environment to keep it unchanged if they find new defaults not convenient. Maybe Ubuntu is not a democraty... but to hurt users with no easy alternative, this would be dictatorial: The problem you'll face is I dont't think dictatorial attitude in a free software world can last for long!? -- [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 553576] Re: gdm is not translated in italian after installed system without internet connection
2010/4/1 marco.pallotta marco.pallo...@gmail.com: I know that the problem is that, without an internet connection, the system hadn't yet downloaded the language-packs needed to have a fully Italian installation, but a typical user thinks to install an italian system and, to log-in, he has to translate from english (ok, to log-in he can perceive the steps to enter into the system as the fields he has to fill and buttons that he has to press are not many). I think this is an evident usability bug. Personally, I don't agree with the usability point of view. It is a chicken-egg kind of problem: if you didn't download the Italian langpack during installation, how can you install it without logging into your session, and if you still don't have your Internet connection? Or we provide only the English interface during the installation, or we provide all the languages in the CD. Both are very unlikely, so having the installation in your language and downloading the langpack during the installation, is a good compromise. A good compromise even if you don't have the Internet connection, 'cause after you log in, you should be prompted to download the missing language support (and if you are not, then that is a totally different separate problem from this). But if you still don't have an active Internet connection, there is no easy solution to that. All of these, IMHO. -- gdm is not translated in italian after installed system without internet connection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/553576 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment
Is it only me who finds the form of the minimize and maximize icons irritating? The first thing I do after (re-)installing Ubuntu is deleting the lower panel and adding the windows list to the upper panel. Thus, the minimize button (arrow down) no longer points to the window list. More than once I wrongly clicked on the maximize button (arrow up) when I wanted to minimize the window. Mac OS X uses the symbols - and +, which can't be confused. Another option would be a small and a large rectangle. (I won't discuss the stupidity of window button placement here, as this already has been done in abundance here. The whole discussion is a clear sign that fundamental GUI changes should be made much earlier in the development process ...) -- [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 553576] Re: gdm is not translated in italian after installed system without internet connection
Well, I think Ubuntu should offer two solutions with a simple question: Do you want to install a system in a language other than english? 1) if you have an internet connection you can download the CD 2) if you don't have an internet connection you have to download the DVD with full language packs In this way we could fix the issue and offer a better service to the user. -- gdm is not translated in italian after installed system without internet connection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/553576 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 553930] [NEW] Totem wont play full screen when also running Docky
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem I am running Ubuntu 10.04 on an Asus eeePC 901. When I am running Docky, the application launcher, Totem Media Player 2.30.0 will not go fullscreen. It tries to but just moves the window up to the top of the screen. The menu items can't be clicked to close the application so I have to Alt-F4 it. Also it doesn't allow you to jump forward in the video being played. Attached is a screenshot after I selected fullscreen. As you can see the window has moved up slightly and the window max/min/close buttons are hidden. The menus can be selected but they do nothing. If I close Docky this problem goes away. [Bug 553945] [NEW] empathy doesn't properly disconnect.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: empathy Empathy fails to revoke the online status of any given jabber connection. I currently have multiple jabber logins with slightly varying ressources (Telepathy.multiple hex-digits) although empathy hasn't been running for several days. The problem that logins don't time out may be a problem related to the jabber server rather than empathy, but I have never before had such a problem, and also do not have this problem at the moment with gajim. You're right, I'm the only one that disagrees with it. All sarcasm aside, lets talk about community. You say the vast majority has not voiced their opinion. So this is the only way things get decided upon? We're waiting for this vast majority from the unknown to vote in some unknown manner for it to be taken seriously? I guess the community from the official ubuntu forums, brainstorm and launchpad don't actually count then. Someone should have told us before we voiced our opinion that our voice does not matter before asking us to voice our opinion (which Mark did in the bug). You say Canonical's target audience is the novice user who is new to computers. Is this the vast majority you speak of? People who downloaded and installed ubuntu on their computer but do not take part in the forums or launchpad or brainstorm to voice their opinion? So the rest of us are just free marketing and bug fixing but have no say in how the OS develops? I think something is missing here because it really doesn't make sense to me. A company focus's on the user who takes no part in the community while ignoring the active community. moving on... It's a bad decision because: #1 Nobody but mac users are used to it. 90% of the rest of the world are used to it being on the right. #2 There has been ZERO explanations as to why this needs to be done. There is no benefit. There is no advantage. There is only upset and agnostic users. The only excuse has been we might put something on the right. PUT IT ON THE LEFT! #3 LTS. We are stuck with this half-design for the next 3 years. #4 Zero community input taken into consideration. I'll say zero, because if I mention Mark asked for input from the community and the majority (see above) yelled loud and clear that they were against it and the decision was still made in favor, then that makes the decision look much worse. #5 major UI change 2 weeks after a UI freeze... in an LTS I'm done with this issue. I'm really tired of trying to explain this on deaf ears. The powers that be just don't understand what pissing off your core users really means. Yes, WE are your core users. We are the ones spending our time, money and energy using, advocating, fixing and improving your OS just because we like it and the community. This vast majority of users you speak of who do not participate who give nothing back but arbitrary numbers should not take precedence over the satisfaction of your core users. This all said, I am a power user and will continue to configure the OS I spend so much time, money and energy on improving upon to fit my needs. I will continue more testing of my family and customers to see if I will need to do further customizing for them as well. If it weren't for this community I would jump ship. Setting to private and invalid, since all mentions of scim should be about ibus. ** Changed in: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- notification area: clicking other icon toggles display of ibus icon https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/553983 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 445084] Re: click-to-focus window is too sensitive
Further notes: - It's not just while focusing into the window, but that's when the behaviour is most annoying. - The problem is worst in the end of line space to the right of text in the terminal. In that area, any mouse movement (seemingly even a sub-pixel movement) will cause a selection and effectively erase the copy buffer. - The problem is still somewhat annoying even in the non-end-of-line text area depending on where in the character your cursor lands (to the left or right or near the center): - If you cursor is on the right half of a character, any horizontal movement will cause a selection. In emacs, by comparison, you have to drag to the end of the character before it's selected. - If you cursor is on the left half of a character, it nicely allows you to drag half a character in either direction. This would be desirable in the above case as well, IMO. - Vertical movement is ok because you can move a whole line height without causing a selection. If I get ambitious, maybe I'll look at the source code myself. I'm running a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10. In my previous installation I was so annoyed that I installed konsole (yes, under gnome), but that comes with a lot of unwanted KDE packages. -- click-to-focus window is too sensitive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445084 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 552292] [NEW] Icon for tomboy in notification area is different from icon for tomboy applet
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: light-themes I recently noticed that the notification area icon for Tomboy has become back and white to match Ubuntu's look. However, the icon for the Tomboy panel applet remains the classic legal-pad-yellow that it has always been. It would be great if the Tomboy panel applet could share the same new (sexy) icon with the notification area.
