[Bug 284443] Re: gdmsetup: Don't offer autologin for ecryptfs users

2011-02-10 Thread Robert Ancell
OK, I think the solution has to be:
1. /etc/pam.d/gdm-autologin has to force a password request if the user is
using an encrypted home directory
2. GDM has to detect this, and launch the greeter if this occurs (normal case
is to run without launching the greeter)

[Bug 637702] Re: Prompted to unlock keyring twice on log in

2011-02-10 Thread Jhase
I have the same problem, the unlock keyring window shows twice in auto-
login start (with only 1 keyring, 'login'). I don't know why nor how to
fix, but I have notice that the problem is not the verification of the
pass, it is called twice after you input the pass, because (and this is
my workaround) you can press ESC key in the second or plus prompted
windows if you put in the correct pass at first.

[Bug 715874] Re: gnome thumbnailers should have an apparmor profile

2011-02-10 Thread Jamie Strandboge
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Nautilus normally uses gnome-thumbnail-font, to provide font previews. Eg:
  $ gconftool-2 -g /desktop/gnome/thumbnailers/application@x-font-ttf/enable
  true
  $ gconftool-2 -g /desktop/gnome/thumbnailers/application@x-font-ttf/command
  gnome-thumbnail-font %u %o

If a flaw is discovered in a font library or Gnome and a user navigates
- to a directory that has a malicious font file, gnome-tumbnail-font could
- be used to execute arbitrary code, write out to files or leak
+ to a directory that has a malicious font file, gnome-thumbnail-font
+ could be used to execute arbitrary code, write out to files or leak
information. Providing an apparmor profile for gnome-thumbnail-font
would be a good step towards proactively protecting the user from this
  sort of attack.

- nautilus also use totem-video-thumbnail and evince-thumbnailer. evince-
- thumbnailer has an apparmor profile already. For images, nautilus uses
- gdk-pixbuf routines via gnome-desktop, but these can be altered to use
- evince-thumbnailer by installing schema files for these images.
+ The same can be said for other thumbnailers. Nautilus also uses totem-
+ video-thumbnail and evince-thumbnailer (evince-thumbnailer has an
+ apparmor profile already). For images, nautilus uses gdk-pixbuf routines
+ via gnome-desktop, but these can be altered to use evince-thumbnailer by
+ installing schema files for the various image mime-types and updating
+ gnome-desktop to not fallback to gdk-pixbuf on thumbnail script error.

[Bug 716433] [NEW] evolution crashes when using calendar

2011-02-10 Thread Steve Roberts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Ubuntu 10.04 Evolution 2.28

Whenever I try to use the calendar evolution either hangs and has to be
forced to close or the whole gnome desktop hangs so that I have to ctrl
--alt-f1 to open terminal from where I can restart. Not using google
calendar or any other online service.

Eg To reproduce:
Click on calendar
Page up or down one or more times - hangs

Or
re-open (in calendar as when crashed)
try to copy an appointment
appointment disappears (note it was copied, not cut)
paste - hangs

There seems no consistency except that crashes/hangs always occur when
using calendar - appears stable if stay in mail window. This is very
frustrating as it makes evolution unusable.

Or
Open evolution in calendar
scroll up one click (with mouse wheel) - hangs

It also seems that I am unable to cut and paste items in the calendar views
(may not be related)
right click an item, select copy
move to another day
right click, select paste - nothing happens or crash.

[Bug 716542] [NEW] systems slows/hangs when viewing photos, constant dimming action...runs very slow!?

2011-02-10 Thread How
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I had formatted a hard drive (full space usage) for the latest system...only to
find it can't work with previous versions, has
many episodes where it slows (to a crawl - if I'm lucky) when trying to view
photo icon/thumbnails! According to to the
title bar there's a bug with the nautilus package.I can't tell you if
that was what caused my problems?

I couldn't get into the Kubuntu program/system - had no way to remember the
login password (and there's apparentlyno
way of getting hints or choosing a secret question providing a secret
answer to re-establish - login capability(s) ?

I found that the smoothness of the systemseemed to be very responsive,
however, for my usesnot being able to
copy-paste/interact with previous versionsis a real problem for me. I'm not
knowledgeable enough on Linux to know
which (extensions) will work with previous systems and whether a swap
file/share/area allows this.

Having used many systems; from CPM-Dos-Windows Vista (crap)...I'm guessing that
windows users.were treated/allowed
access use to; programs, option, and files, through a graphical
screenwhich required more memory.

Any help/suggestions - would be helpful for a Windows dummy like me?
Thank You - AHNauss

[Bug 715874] Re: gnome thumbnailers should have an apparmor profile

2011-02-10 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Attached is a preliminary totem abstraction and totem-previewers profile for
totem-video-thumbnailer and /usr/bin/totem-audio-preview. To use, put
totem.abstraction in /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/totem and
usr.bin.totem-previewers in /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.totem-previewers. Then do:
$ sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.totem-previewers

It requires more testing before inclusion in Ubuntu, but was tested with
ogg audio and flash video thumbnails via nautilus.

2011-02-10 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

Same thing, log in, see my screen for less than a second, the screen
goes black. I have to move the mouse or touch the keyboard to get the

[Bug 716590] [NEW] Doesn't reload window decorations if started via .xprofile

2011-02-10 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

I have a .xprofile script to launch xchat and other apps I always like
to have in session. Unfortunately, when I do this xchat-gnome comes up
with the GNOME default window decorations, not the Ubuntu Ambiance theme
decorations that it should.

I notice that the apps in .xprofile seem to start up prior to the window
manager being fully initialized. Sometimes I'll see gnome-terminal
loaded also with the GNOME default decorations. However, at some point
the window manager must send a signal or gnome-terminal notices the
theme change or something, and it gains the correct decorations. xchat-
gnome never seems to get the message in this case.

This issue has been present for several releases at least. Also, it
doesn't happen on every boot, but maybe 25% of the time. I guess it's a
race condition between the WM coming up and xchat-gnome. I've attempted
putting in sleeps to the xchat-gnome invocation which I suppose helps
but I still see the incorrect behavior from time to time.

[Bug 716607] [NEW] Scrolls to top of window when started up with existing backlog

2011-02-10 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

When xchat-gnome fires up, tabs load up logged chat text from the
previous sessions, which is really nice. However, initially xchat-gnome
starts with the text areas showing the top of the text (position 0 I
guess), rather than scrolling the text area to the bottom to show the
most recent comments.

It seems that after any comment or activity on the respective channel,
the text area automatically moves to the bottom as it should. So it's a
minor issue, but confusing.

[Bug 716642] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon not running after suspend/resume

2011-02-10 Thread Reece
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

gnome-settings-daemon is not running upon suspend/resume. As a result,
window decorations and other theme-dependent settings revert to a
default theme (gtk?). Restarting g-s-d on the command line restores
decorations (in this case, the default Ambiance theme). Otherwise, GNOME
appears to behave correctly. I run on an extended desktop (laptop + HDMI
monitor).

I updated to this version of g-s-d on Nov 20 and I suspend/resume
several times daily, but I started observing this behavior only within
the last few days. Therefore, it seems most likely that this repeatable
problem results from another package upgrade and not from g-s-d itself.

[Bug 505289] Re: In keyboard selector, dropdown box for country selection does not respond to keypress

2011-02-10 Thread thomas
This holds true for ALL drop-down-selects within ALL Gnome settings-dialogues,
which have a drop-down-select. This is even true for most programs, whenn
running within Gnome (e.g. Nautilus).
This is a very basic-feature, every program should be capable of. EVERY
drop-down-select ANYWHERE in a UI should be able of select an item by typing in
the first letters. What is possible in a browser during website-rendering,
should be also possible on a desktop-system. So please give this bug a higher
importance, because it is such a terrible usability mistake. I don't want to
touch my mouse for tasks like selecting my country from a drop-down–and there
are users around this world, who even can't use a mouse. And selecting an entry
out of 200 by just using the arrow keys can be quite time-consuming.

[Bug 500417] Re: nautilus doesn't honor gnome theme

2011-02-10 Thread Orbital_sFear
My issue wasn't fixed until I restarted gnome-settings-daemon.

Here's what I did, it works 100% of the time, but its a total hack.

Go in synaptic, reinstall nautilus.

I made a one liner shell script that runs when my computer starts:
sleep 5; ps -aef | grep gnome-settings-daemon | grep -v grep | awk '{ print $2
}' | xargs kill -9; sleep 2; gnome-settings-daemon

This completely 'fixed' the problem, but again, total hack and would
like to know why gnome-settings-daemon is having issues in the first
place.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

After booting with latest natty updates noticed this error message in
.xsession-errors.

Also, I had set up a couple panel bars with window lists on them (old
school style). This is running classic desktop (no effects) fwiw.

Unable to find a synaptics device.

Also, three dialogs had popped up asking me if I wanted to delete the
window list from my configuration. I declined.

Ok, the problem now has been extended to removing any kind of USB stick,
even if I'm not displaying the content of it, nautilus exits.
