[Bug 995747] Re: Gedit: Remove trailing spaces feature removes last line.

2012-05-14 Thread Sabina Jung
As the output provided by James Plate
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit-
plugins/+bug/995747/comments/5) suggests, process_read_buffer() in
/usr/lib/gedit/plugins/externaltools/capture.py isn't passed the
'source' argument. That way the processing terminates and the last
buffer of the external command's output is lost. Adding the parameter
(see patch) solved it for me.

** Patch added:
gedit-externaltools-capture.py-process_read_buffer-source-parameter.patch

[Bug 285682] Re: can't mount digital camera showing a window popup message: -60 could not lock the device message

2012-05-14 Thread Kevin Wortman
I still have the same problematic behavior with a Kodak EasyShare Z730
on 12.04. There is the -60 error message dialog, and two instances of
the Choose what application to launch dialog. Shotwell is still able
to import the photos despite all that.

[Bug 770382] Re: sound too loud at login screen

2012-05-14 Thread John Cottier
This bug affect me too. It happened after an update. I noticed the alert sounds
where really quiet so I turned them up in sound preferences. At the next boot I
realised that the login volume was now 100% (distorting), but after login
finished returned to normal volume. I disabled the drum login sound a while
ago, but e-mail alerts + Unbuntu login sound blasting at distorted levels is
not nice in an office environment (this is my work machine). My PC is a Dell
E521 with Nvidia MCP51 HD Audio.

[Bug 999048] Re: gnome-settings-daemon segfault at 38 ip 03a43f00 sp bf8bf00c error 4 in libmouse.so[3a42000+9000]

2012-05-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make

not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it. We understand the
difficulties you are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. You can also find a valid support at

[Bug 868684] Re: vblank counter failed - screen hung

2012-05-14 Thread Achim
As far as I can tell this problem seems to be fixed with the new intel
driver.

xserver-xorg-video-intel:
  Installiert: 2:2.19.0-0ubuntu1~xup1
  Kandidat:2:2.19.0-0ubuntu1~xup1
  Versionstabelle:
 *** 2:2.19.0-0ubuntu1~xup1 0

precise/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages

With the default packages in ubuntu precise I still had failing vblank
counters in my Xorg.0.log

If you take a look at the release notes[1] you can see the following line.
- Prevent waiting on scanlines whilst not in control of the VT and therefore
whilst referencing foreign CRTC configurations.

To my mind this may have solved the problem.
I hope this information is helpful for the others that have this issue.

[Bug 959592] [NEW] Multi monitor mirrored instead of using primary/selected monitor

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When lightdm starts after rebooting or switching on, I'm greeted with
the login which is mirrored on both of my displays and the primary
monitor resolution is reduced from widescreen to a 4:3 resolution. If I
replug the external monitor, the display is no longer mirrored and the
correct resolution is displayed on the primary monitor. I also get the
Ubuntu logo in the centre of the external display of which I assume is
the correct behaviour. This is on a Lenovo G570 notebook.

[Bug 999081] [NEW] Submenus in the home folder disappear after a while, reappear after reboot

2012-05-14 Thread Cedara
Public bug reported:

When I'm opening the home folder with the file browser (nautilus) the
menu items have no submenus anymore. The bug doesn't appear immediately
after log on, only after a while. I haven't been able to determine what
sets the bug in motion, only that I can work around it by rebooting.

Sidenote: I'm using screenlets which always set off a crash after log
on. Also, I'm using Opera, where the operapluginwrapper (flash)
sometimes crashes.

I haven't seen anyone else having the same kind of problem at askubuntu
or in any other forums.

[Bug 356022] Re: unable to mount or browse samba networks

2012-05-14 Thread mlaverdiere
I'm on Precise 12.04 and was somewhat experiencing the same issue, i.e
getting the failed to retrieve shares list from server when trying to
reach SAMBA shares on my NAS (WD MyBook World Edition).

I've read and try a lot of things on this issue (among others,
rearranging the order of the name resolve string in smb.conf), but
nothing worked. Even the smbtree command was unsuccessful, as it was
not retrieving any shares list. But, I was able to connect to a share by
issuing the nautilus smb:// command. A the end of the day, the only
thing that solved all this was to install the samba package, which was
not installed by default. Since then, retrieving and connecting SAMBA
shares through Nautilus work without a glitch.

Shouldn't the SAMBA package be installed by default then?

[Bug 836669] Re: gnome-screenshot only captures wallpaper

2012-05-14 Thread Luke Huxley
What happens is that when alt + print screen is pressed on a window
gnome-screenshot takes a picture of the relative opposite side of the
screen, back-to-front, up-side-down. This means when I take a screenshot
of a window that is at the top right of the screen, the png that is
stored is a back-to-front and up-side-down image of the bottom left of
the screen. When hitting alt + print screen under Unity it works as
expected so it's somehow linked to Gnome-Shell.

[Bug 999108] [NEW] Shotwell deletes tags at random

2012-05-14 Thread Jan Heitkötter
Public bug reported:

There's a bug in Shotwell (0.12.2, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) which causes it to
remove certain tags from all images in the library. It usually happens
after emtpying trash. This does not only cause data loss (tag
information gone forever), but it also makes Shotwell re-write all
affected images which can take several hours to complete and, during
this time, renders the machine nearly useless.

This bug is already fixed in upstream Shotwell 0.12.3:
http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/5068

Please, have this bug fixed in an LTS version.

[Bug 356022] Re: unable to mount or browse samba networks

2012-05-14 Thread Michael DePaulo
Mlaverdiere,

Yes, you do need to have the samba package installed because it
contains nmbd, the netbios P2P name lookup daemon. Otherwise, your
system tries only DNS for the name lookups, which fail for the
aforementioned reason.

I've become more experienced with Linux, and my recommended complete workaround
to this issue is as follows:
1. Install the samba package.
2. Edit the line for hosts in /etc/nsswitch.conf so that wins is inserted
right after files.
e.g., if your nsswitch.conf has this hosts line:
hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4 wins
change it to:
hosts: files wins mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4
Do this even if wins was not on the original line, still add it after
files. As a standard precaution, you should backup your original
/etc/nsswitch.conf also.

What this does basically, is it makes linux to both lookup hostnames via
netbios (wins) in general, and prioritize those name lookups over DNS name
lookups. This mimics the default behavior of Windows.
(Step 2 may not be necessary for many users like Mlaverdiere because the samba
suite uses its own name resolve order by default (the name resolve order line
in smb.conf.), rather than the global /etc/nsswitch.conf file for all Linux
programs.)

Also, some newer home wireless routers both:
A. Tell DHCP clients (your computers) to use it as the DNS server. E.g., it
will tell them to use 192.168.1.1.
B. Automatically create DNS records for those DHCP clients.
This feature resolves the issue completely, and making my workaround
unnecessary.

Looks like it's fixed in Precise, can someone confirm this? I want to
mark this as fix released. Testcase attached here shows application/pgp-
encrypted, while testcases on freedesktop.org bugzilla shows application
/pgp-encrypted for file.asc and application/pgp-keys for key.asc

[Bug 794771] Re: metacity doesn't start, dies with metacity:ERROR:ui/ui.c:754:meta_ui_get_default_window_icon: assertion failed: (default_icon)

2012-05-14 Thread Ryslan.Y
This error happens when fall-back icon theme not installed or not
choosed in .gtk2.config file. For instance, I have same issue with
Gentoo Linux (KDE 4), where fallback icon theme was not present, so
solution was to install package 'x11-themes/gnome-icon-theme' and apply
it in KDE system configuration application.

[Bug 999139] [NEW] fingerprint reader Authentec, inc AES1600

2012-05-14 Thread Evertjan Garretsen
Public bug reported:

If i'm correct Ubuntu supports fingerprint readers in user accounts as i
read on the page: https://help.ubuntu.com/11.04/ubuntu-help/session-
fingerprint.html

I cannot find a list of supported devices, but do know that my device is
not natively supported.

I installed Fingerprint Gui and it does support my fingerprint reader.

It would be nice to add the driver for AES1600 from authentec to Ubuntu
and the supported devices as well as the others supported by fingerprint
GUI. I'm not a driver developer, but as Fingerprint GUI can find the
fingerprint reader i think it should not be too difficult to incorporate
it in Ubuntu. Or am i wrong?

Althoug Fingerprint gui works somewhat stable. It does crash sometimes
and the look of it is not native and nice in my honest opinion.

Maybe someone with experience can tell me if fingerprint gui (at least
the driver part) can be incorporated in Ubuntu?

Thanks for all your good work!
