[Desktop-packages] [Bug 921520] Re: Locally stored application icons don't scale well, literally and figuratively
This bug report seems to be more of a discussion, so setting it as such in the Ubuntu project ** Changed in: software-center (Ubuntu) Status: New = Opinion ** Changed in: software-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/921520 Title: Locally stored application icons don't scale well, literally and figuratively Status in Online service used by software center: New Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu: Opinion Bug description: Currently USC uses icons delivered by app-install-data-ubuntu for applications in Main and Universe, app-install-data-partner for applications in Partner, and the icon_url property in the Json for commercial applications. Unfortunately, the app-install-data* packages don't include icons that would be appropriate for the 96*96px space on the software item screen, because that would increase the size of those packages. So it shows a small icon scaled up, which looks ugly. It would be simpler and more scalable if USC got the icons for any package, regardless of source, from a server in a consistent way. Perhaps USC would request something like http://software-center.ubuntu.com/icons/ubuntu/dists/precise/main/s/stellarium?size=96 or http://software-center.ubuntu.com/icons/96/ubuntu/dists/precise/main/s/stellarium, and the the server would return the icon of the nearest size to what was requested. If USC requested any size that there wasn't an exact icon for, but there was an SVG icon available, maybe the server would redirect to the SVG one (so that USC could realize oh, I have that cached already). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 662051] Re: CR-LFs get duplicated whenever they fall on READ_CHUNK_SIZE boundaries
Possibly, this is a duplicate of bug 616441? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gedit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/662051 Title: CR-LFs get duplicated whenever they fall on READ_CHUNK_SIZE boundaries Status in Light-Weight Text Editor for Gnome: New Status in “gedit” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Binary package hint: gedit Gedit massively screws up files whose lines are terminated by CR-LF (i.e., Windows-style newlines, or 0D 0A in hex). It reads in a file in 8192-byte chunks, and then if a CR-LF combo happens to fall on a boundary so that the CR is on one side and the LF is on the other, then Gedit translates BOTH of them into a newline. The net effect is that quite a few newlines get randomly duplicated here and there in any reasonably long file with Windows-style newlines when you load it. Time to find a new text editor. I've already wasted several minutes too many discovering Gedit's design flaws and creating a pointless account here. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 867806] Re: df -h permission denied error
So to summarise I have exactly the same problem when I use ssh to connect to Ubuntu 11.10 with all patches up to and including 8th of Feb 2012. Output from uname -a is Linux dev4 3.0.0-15-generic #26-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 20 17:23:00 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Generally this error occurs when I am a normal user but does not show if I am root. I also believe that I have seen the problem when running sudo df but I cannot 100% confirm this. If the error appears then the return code is set to 1. I also believe that this is a reasonably recent behavioural change on my system. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 928293] Re: always adds a “created with the GIMP” comment to files
Thanks, that _seems_ to do the trick. As for why, when storing large binaries in LDAP, every three-octet group is precious (we have user photos in LDAP for perusal by the company’s Jabber server with mod_vcard_ldap and mod_shared_roster_ldap) as there are timeouts. We found that jpegPhoto attributes of about 4K (before base64 encoding) work best, and more than about 8K are unreasonable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gimp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/928293 Title: always adds a “created with the GIMP” comment to files Status in “gimp” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Version: 2.6.6-0ubuntu1~hardy1~andre1 GIMP always adds a comment “Created with the GIMP” to files when saving. Well Martin the issue has been discussed a bit in another bug (looking for the number), even if the file is publicly available that doesn't work because gnome-desktop store your background in .cache which has permissions set to 700 by default so even if the image can be read the actual copy used and stored can't -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/928553 Title: Non-default wallpapers are not readable by Unity-Greeter Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Status in “unity-greeter” package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: I use a non-default wallpaper and it is a different folder than the default wallpapers. But what happens is that there are a number of rows hidden. Only after selecting all rows and clicking on show all the rows reappear. For me this looks like a serious bug but before posting it I want to check back with somebody. It impact right now considerable becasue Libreoffice needs quite some time to makr and show all rows. Removing the filter via menu /data/filter/remove filter and reapply it solves the problem for a single user. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 469126] Re: Preferences Keyboard Mouse Keys enabled by default Ubuntu 9.10 + VirtualBox
Bizarre, we have also been hitting this dis-functioning Num-lock problem multiple times. Each time, it takes us ages to find out it is due to this Mouse-Keys feature in the Universal Access category. We are pretty sure we have never enabled it by ourselves, so it is either enabled by default, or by some system updates, or by some obscure shortcut keys. However I've just reviewed all the shortcuts and could not find anything related to enabling Mouse-keys. Sebastien, if you are sure this feature is not enabled by default, then I propose to add the same Mouse-Keys feature check-box in System- Settings/Keyboard so it is faster to find it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/469126 Title: Preferences Keyboard Mouse Keys enabled by default Ubuntu 9.10 + VirtualBox Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: I've installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a VirtualBox 3.0.10 and could not use my number pad on both ps/2 and usb keyboard. 5 key was acting as mouse 0. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 775080] Re: Thunderbird with Firetray - menu in Unity top bar disappears
Assuming this is the same problem as https://bugs.launchpad.net/appmenu- qt/+bug/775278 , this bug happens because when the window goes to the tray, bamf says it has closed = after 5 seconds indicator-appmenu forgets about the association between the window and its menubar = no menubar after restoring the window. The solution I applied in appmenu-qt is to register the window again when the window is brought back. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/775080 Title: Thunderbird with Firetray - menu in Unity top bar disappears Status in Unity global menubar extension for Firefox and Thunderbird: Triaged Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Binary package hint: thunderbird Running thunderbird with the Firetray plugin. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 928438] Re: LibreOffice doesn't have window title or buttons in Unity
Seems to be initiated when jumping between full screen apps, particularly to/from nautilus. When it happens, Libreoffice also disappears from the alt-tab list and, if minimised, also from the expo (ctrl-w) view. So it completely disappears from view and access from Unity when minimised. However, if you close all other apps then start a new app then Libreoffice springs back into view. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 926668] Re: gnome-system-monitor crashed with SIGABRT in __GI___assert_fail()
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 874260] Re: Firefox freezes when I right click or try to open up bookmarks.
Here is a screencast of how this affects me. At least in my occasion, it seems obviously caused by many (many!) bookmarks in my menu. Note that this is a blazingly fast machine, with lots of memory and only SSDdrives; so the problem solves itself fast. When my bookmarks were imported on an old/thin machine, FF halted for over 20 minutes before becoming responsive again. In this case, the solution clearly lies in less bookmarks. But AFAIK that should either be enforced by firefox not allowing more then X bookmarks in a menu. Or firefox/unity-menu only loading a subset into the menu. ** Attachment added: Screencast of the freezing in action. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/874260/+attachment/2723430/+files/out-1.ogv -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/874260 Title: Firefox freezes when I right click or try to open up bookmarks. Maybe it should be less realtime or stop to fullfilled log with repeated similar errors. Confirmed in GEdit 3.3.3-0ubuntu1 ** Changed in: gedit (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gedit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/415655 Title: Spellcheck problems with capitalisation Status in “enchant” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “gedit” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: gedit When gedit finds a misspelling, it doesn't do a good job of taking capitalisation into account. For example, the misspelled word Iittle (note the upper-case i) gives the suggestions Tittle, Little, Vittles...all of which have the first letter capitalised. However, it doesn't suggest at all little with a lower-case L as a possibility, but instead assumes that the original capitalisation is correct. This problem happens in the opposite direction too: WAlT (note the lower-case L) gives the suggestions Walt, Alt, Waltz, Wale,Welt,Wast, Wait ... WAIT in all-caps isn't even listed as a possibility. Again, it's assigning too much importance to the capitalisation of the first letter, and not enough to the rest. Since gedit uses enchant for spell-checking, I'll also assign this bug to enchant. However, gedit could be doing a better job with sorting the suggestions (wast before wait??) This does not make sense in two ways: (1) Look is a synonym of appearance (see http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/look definition 19), but is presented as if it is a subset of appearance. (This may also cause localization problems, if the two labels are translated using the same word, or when a language does not have two different words for this meaning.) (2) Behavior is, at first thought, not appearance. The obvious way to fix this is to move the launcher size control to the second tab, rename the first tab General, and the second Launcher'. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 928772] Re: Finishing and Color settings are in Advanced instead of their own Print dialog tabs
First, how did you set up your printer? With which driver? There is no entry for your printer in the lpinfo -m output, which tells that there is no explicit support. For me it lloks like a PostScript laser printer which is not supported by Gutenprint, but uses a manufacturer-supplied PPD file. Can you attach the printer's PPD file (from /etc/cups/ppd/)? Thanks. As the list of options under Advanced has group headers, it looks like that the options are correctly categorized in the PPD file, but the dialog is not presenting them correctly. Therefore I move this to GTK, the package which provides the shown print dialog. ** Package changed: gutenprint (Ubuntu) = gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete ** Changed in: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gtk+3.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/928772 Title: Finishing and Color settings are in Advanced instead of their own Print dialog tabs Status in “gtk+3.0” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: cups-driver-gutenprint 5.2.7-2ubuntu4, Ubuntu 11.10 1. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 928802 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/928802 Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
