2011-08-25 Thread Alex Valavanis
It turns out that this bug was really fixed upstream in gtk+2.0 version
2.21.5 (see upstream changelog!).

The fix made it into Ubuntu:

gtk+2.0 (2.21.5-1ubuntu1) maverick; urgency=low

  * Merge with Debian experimental, Ubuntu changes:
  * debian/control.in:
- Add introspection build-depends
- Add Vcs-Bzr link
- Add gir1.0-gtk-2.0 package
- libgtk2.0-dev replaces gir-repository-dev
- Conflict with appmenu-gtk ( 0.1.3) to prevent menu proxy breakage
  * debian/rules:
- Build with --enable-introspection
- Add gir1.0-gtk-2.0 package to BINARY_ARCH_PKGS
- Add dh_girepository call
- Disable devhelp files
  * debian/dh_gtkmodules.in:
- Remove obsolete script content
  * debian/libgtk2.0-0.symbols:
- Add Ubuntu specific symbols
  * debian/libgtk2.0-dev.install.in:
- Add gir files
  * debian/libgtk2.0-doc.install.in
- Disable devhelp files
  * debian/gir1.0-gtk-2.0.install.in
- Introspection package
  * debian/patches/043_menu_proxy.patch
- Add GtkMenuProxy support for remoting menus.
  * debian/patches/062_dnd_menubar.patch:
- Allow click on menubars for dnd
  * debian/patches/063_treeview_almost_fixed.patch:
- Add an ubuntu-almost-fixed-height-mode property, (required for
  software-center)
  * debian/patches/071_no_offscreen_widgets_grabbing.patch:
- Don't let offscreen widgets do grabbing
  * debian/patches/072_indicator_menu_update.patch:
- change by Cody Russell to send an update event on menu changes,
  should make the bluetooth indicator refresh correctly
  * debian/patches/091_bugzilla_tooltip_refresh.patch:
- Upstream bugzilla change to have better looking tooltips the gtk theme
  need to set new-tooltip-style to use those
  * debian/watch:
- Watch for unstable versions

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 167262] Re: In the Text and Font dialog, Ctrl+Z (Undo) destroys text

  In the Text and Font dialog, Ctrl+Z (Undo) destroys text

Status in Inkscape: A Vector Drawing Tool:
  Fix Released
Status in “inkscape” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in “inkscape” package in Debian:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Problem:

  When typing text directly into the Text and Font
  dialog (Shift+Ctrl+T, Text tab), pressing the Ctrl+Z
  key or Edit menu Undo, removes the text, with no
  possiblity of recovery. The Redo action (Shift+Ctrl+Z)
  does not recover the text. Even if Redo did recover
  the text, it would be easy to lose the text if more
  text were typed after the undo.

  Workaround:

  Enter text into a separate text editing application,
  then copy and paste the text in. This avoids
  accidental loss of text.

  Proposed Solutions:

  Disable Undo while the Text and Font dialog (Text tab
  ) text entry dialog, has keyboard focus. Or, if Undo
  is pressed, alert the user of the loss of data with a
  Yes/No dialog.

2012-12-19 Thread Alex Valavanis
New version uploaded for review:
lp:~valavanisalex/ubuntu/raring/inkscape/fix-1091308

As the Debian branch may take a while to be updated, I propose that we
go ahead with our own package upgrade and run a merge with Debian when
available.

Bug description:
  I have arrived at a file which contains a finely distributed set of
  circles and oblongs through a long-winded set of tile and alignment
  operations.

  I'd now like to be able to ungroup that set and manipulate the
  individual circles and oblongs. However, when I ungroup the set, the
  circles and oblongs are thrown all across the canvas.

  I've no idea why ungrouping would move items and I think it's a bug.
  The minimal, vacuumed file which recreates this bug on my version of
  Inkscape is attached. I'll try to install trunk and see if it makes a
  difference.

  I've been using Inkscape for work as my only vector editor for the past
  year or so, and while it's extremely capable, there is one coding choice
  which I find completely bewildering: Why is font size specified in pixels
  instead of points? This seems to be used in both listboxes and the actual
  raw SVG. For the longest time I could not figure out why my text always
  looked so small. I don't think pixels are a useful measurement for text, as
  points are the de facto standard.

  - in the XML editor the svg tag has a property called sodipodi:docname =
C:\Windows\Temp\drawing.svg as expected
  - now perform a File-Save As Drawing2.svg
  - note that the Inkscape form title changes to drawing2.svg as expected
  - however, the XML editor still has the original sodipodi:docname, not updated
  - close Inkscape
  - open the file drawing2.svg with a text editor and confirm that
sodipodi:docname = C:\Windows\Temp\drawing.svg, not updated
  - double-click on the file Drawing2.svg to open it in Inkscape
  - note that, after it opens, the XML editor now shows sodipodi:docname =
C:\Windows\Temp\drawing2.svg which is consistent with the Inkscape form title.

  - it appears the sodipodi:docname is getting updated on a File-Open
  but is not updated on a File-Save As...

Can I propose bumping the libgc version requirement to 7.1 in trunk now?
The only tracked distros that would be affected are Debian Stable and
Ubuntu Lucid, which are already unsupported for trunk builds.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: inkscape

  I installed Inkscape for the first time on Ubuntu 11.04 and I see that
  the main toolbar and the toolbar for sticking lines and segments where
  on the right side (later noticed the wide and standard views).

  1) I tried to move the main toolbar and it worked like expected in
  vertical mode. I could however not dock the toolbar on top,
  horizontally.

  2) When I tried to move the other toolbar it would not dock anywhere,
  not even where it was at the beginning.

including some highly requested ones. Keep reading to find out exactly what
GIMP 2.8 has to offer you in areas such as the user interface, tools, and
plug-ins.
  User Interface
  Single-Window Mode
  Single-window mode screenshot

  GIMP 2.8 introduces an optional single-window mode. You can toggle between
the default multi-window mode and the new single-window mode through the
Single-window mode checkbox in the Windows menu. In single-window mode, GIMP
will put dockable dialogs and images in a single, tabbed image window. The
single-window mode setting is of course preserved if you quit and start GIMP
again. Single-window mode removes the necessity for users of having to deal
with multiple windows. Developers: Martin Nordholts, Michael Natterer
Interaction Architect: Peter Sikking
  Multi-Column Dock Windows
  Multi-column dock windows screenshot

  GIMP 2.8 allows dockable dialogs in a dock window to be placed in multiple
columns. To create a new column in a dock window, drag and drop a dockable
dialog on the vertical edges of the dock window. This is an appealing feature
for multi-monitor users where one screen can have a big dock window with all
the dialogs and the tools, while all images are on other displays. Developer:
Martin Nordholts Interaction Architect: Peter Sikking
  More Screen Real Estate For Dockable Dialogs
  Removed docking bars screenshot

  The docking bars have been removed and replaced with overlaid highlights. The
dockable drag handle has been removed and the dockable menu button has been
moved up to the tabs. A new Automatic tab style has been added which makes
dockable tabs use the available space. Developer: Martin Nordholts
  Save And Export
  Save and export screenshot

  A rather big conceptual change is that saving and exporting images now
  are clearly separated activities. Saving an image can only be done in
  the XCF format which is GIMP's native file format, able to save all
  kinds of information necessary for works in progress.

  To export into other formats File-Export... needs to be used. This
distinction makes it clearer if all available information is stored in a file,
or not. There are some optimizations for alternative workflows such as opening
a jpg, polishing it, and quickly exporting back to the original file. This
conceptual change has also allowed us to get rid of the annoying dialogs that
warned about the flatting of images when saving to non-layered formats.
Developer: Martin Nordholts Interaction Architect: Peter Sikking
  Layer Groups
  Layer groups screenshot

  For complex compositions, a flat layer structure is very limiting. GIMP 2.8
lets users organize their compositions better through the introduction of layer
groups which allow layers to be organized in tree-like structures. Layer groups
are fully scriptable through the GIMP plug-in API. Developer: Michael Natterer
  Tools Drawn With Cairo
  Tools drawn with cairo screenshot

  All tools rendering on canvas have been ported to Cairo to provide smooth
antialiased graphics and make GIMP's look and feel match modern users
expectations. All but a few plug-ins have been ported over to Cairo as well.
Additionally all tools now use an on-canvas progress indicator instead of the
one in the statusbar. Developer: Michael Natterer
  On-Canvas Text Editing
  On-canvas text editing screenshot

  Text editing with the Text Tool is now performed on-canvas instead of in a
separate window. The editing on-canvas is rather sophisticated: apart from the
usual text formatting features like font family, style and size selectors you
get numeric control over baseline offset and kerning, as well as the ability to
change text color for a selection. You can also use a combination of Alt and
arrow keys to change baseline offset and kerning. This feature was originally
developed during Google Summer of Code 2008 and heavily improved since.
Developers: Daniel Eddeland, Michael Natterer
  Keyboard Shortcut Changes

  Since the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+E and Ctrl+Shift+E have been repurposed for
the image export

  Since upgrading to 10.10 from 10.04, various Gtk apps (gedit,

  something like this:

  - Could not load theme icon gtk-home: Icon 'gtk-home' not present in theme
  - glib.GError: Icon 'gtk-justify-left' not present in theme
  - Icon 'gtk-properties' not present in theme

  If I change my icon theme from Oxygen to gnome, they work fine of
  course. But somehow Oxygen is no longer falling back on gtk icons
  elsewhere when they don't exist in that theme. Is this a configuration
  issue?

Thanks for the fix Jon; I can confirm that lp:inkscape r10974 builds
with either LCMS1 or LCMS2 on Ubuntu Precise. Are you still thinking of
backporting to 0.48.3?

  * Focus switches to second terminal window

Bug description:
  I attempted to print a simple drawing with a box and some text. I
  setup the drawing with 0.5 inch margins using the guides. Checked the
  drawing in print preview and the drawing appeared normal. Upon
  printing, the drawing was shifted down 0.5 inches and the bottom of
  the drawing is cutoff. A reprint with no adjustment to the drawing
  produced the same results.

  Printer is HP5610. Printable area is normally 0.25 inches on sides and
  top and 0.5 inches on the bottom. The drawing should have fit into the
  printable area.

Bug description:
  I was having huge difficulties to finish an image in which I was using
  diagram connectors to draw arrows between circles (a graph, for those
  who know what it is).

  At some point, I needed to draw the curved arrows in the image
  attached, and every time I needed to move the drawing or do anything
  with the arrows, like changing the markers' colors, these curved
  arrows kept turning into straight ones again, over and over.

  After a million times going like this, I asked inkscape to render a
  latex formula for me and, when the formula was ready, the arrows
  simply disappeared!

  This is everything that I remember happening before the crash.

  In the Text and Font dialog, Ctrl+Z (Undo) destroys text

Status in Inkscape: A Vector Drawing Tool:
  Triaged
Status in “inkscape” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in “inkscape” package in Debian:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Problem:

  When typing text directly into the Text and Font
  dialog (Shift+Ctrl+T, Text tab), pressing the Ctrl+Z
  key or Edit menu Undo, removes the text, with no
  possiblity of recovery. The Redo action (Shift+Ctrl+Z)
  does not recover the text. Even if Redo did recover
  the text, it would be easy to lose the text if more
  text were typed after the undo.

  Workaround:

  Enter text into a separate text editing application,
  then copy and paste the text in. This avoids
  accidental loss of text.

  Proposed Solutions:

  Disable Undo while the Text and Font dialog (Text tab
  ) text entry dialog, has keyboard focus. Or, if Undo
  is pressed, alert the user of the loss of data with a
  Yes/No dialog.

2014-08-21 Thread Alex Valavanis
