[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1369476] [NEW] No sound input/output via bluetooth headset in HSP/HFP mode
Public bug reported: On a machine without fixed connecting audio devices like internal microphone or internal speaker, And when there is no external audio devices plugging in, the default source/sink is alsa_input/alsa_output and there is no input devices/output devices listed in the gnome sound-setting. Under this situation, if we connect a bluetooth headset, the gnome sound-setting will list bluez input/output devices, but they are not active devices by default. This looks very weird that sound-setting lists only one input device and one output device, but they are not active. To change this situation, we add an argument, the policy is if a new source/sink is connected and current default source/sink's active_port is AVAILABLE_NO, we let the new added one switch to default one. ** Affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Assignee: Hui Wang (hui.wang) Status: New ** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1369476 Title: No sound input/output via bluetooth headset in HSP/HFP mode Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: On a machine without fixed connecting audio devices like internal microphone or internal speaker, And when there is no external audio devices plugging in, the default source/sink is alsa_input/alsa_output and there is no input devices/output devices listed in the gnome sound-setting. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1089105] Re: [Lenovo V480c Notebook]: Trackpad doesn't work after closing and opening the lid
In the latest ubuntu precise (12.04.5), the udev version is 175-0ubuntu9.8, and the keymap in the #31 still exists in this version udev, so this problem still happens on the V480c machines with latest ubuntu precise installed. But this is not a linux kernel bug, I think it is a lightm defect, and can be workaround through udev keymap rules. And since we already have 14.04LTS and there is no this problem in the 14.04 and onwards version, set won't fix for precise (12.04). ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Precise) Status: In Progress = Won't Fix ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pm-utils in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1089105 Title: [Lenovo V480c Notebook]: Trackpad doesn't work after closing and opening the lid Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Status in “pm-utils” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “lightdm” source package in Precise: Invalid Status in “linux” source package in Precise: Won't Fix Status in “pm-utils” source package in Precise: New Status in “lightdm” source package in Quantal: Invalid Status in “linux” source package in Quantal: Won't Fix Status in “pm-utils” source package in Quantal: New Status in “lightdm” source package in Raring: Invalid Status in “linux” source package in Raring: Won't Fix Status in “pm-utils” source package in Raring: New Bug description: Problem: System does not resume from suspend properly. Still waiting it, please refer to the email below: Hello Seb, The option 2 is fine, it is best that two fixes to be SRUed together. Thanks, Hui. On 03/25/2015 04:07 PM, Sebastien Bacher wrote: Hey Hui, We could probably SRU it now, there are some issues though like [1] the fact that indicator menus are misplaced on the greeter when hidpi scaling on. We could have a first SRU to try to activate it only for the installer/oem config (we just need to find e.g an env variable specific to those sessions) or wait to have a fix for the unity-greeter issue and SRU that as well. Do you have a preference for one of those options? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1381856] Re: [Dell Latitude E5550] Microphone mute key does not work on this system
Verification failed. It seems we need to fix this problem not only in notify-osd-icons but also in unity-settings-daemon. The steps I performed verification as below: I Installed 14.04.3 LTS to a lenovo laptop enabled -trusty-proposed source from Software run Software Updater to update all packges run dpkg --list to check notify-osd-icons, this package is not updated download the this package from https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/trusty/amd64/notify-osd-icons/0.8+14.04.20151016-0ubuntu1 manually install it run dpkg --list to verify this package is installed reboot test microphone mute, the osd icon is still speaker rather than microphone. So it looks like we need to upgrade the unity-setting-daemons for trusty as well. ** Tags removed: verification-needed ** Tags added: verification-failed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1381856 Title: [Dell Latitude E5550] Microphone mute key does not work on this system Status in HWE Next: Fix Released Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in notify-osd-icons package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in unity-settings-daemon package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Trusty: New Status in notify-osd-icons source package in Trusty: Fix Committed Status in unity-settings-daemon source package in Trusty: New Status in linux source package in Utopic: Fix Released Status in notify-osd-icons source package in Utopic: Won't Fix Status in unity-settings-daemon source package in Utopic: In Progress Bug description: * Impact the wrong icon is displayed when using the mic mute key * Test Case have a keyboard with a micmute key and press it, looks at what icon is used in the unity7 notification * Regression potential the change is limited to this action -- CID: 201406-15271 Dell Latitude E5550 The microphone mute key does not work at all. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1381856] Re: [Dell Latitude E5550] Microphone mute key does not work on this system
After install the unity-settings- daemon_14.04.0+14.04.20151012-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb on a lenovo machine, reboot, then test the microphone mute hotkey, the OSD icon is correct (now it is microphone icon, then it is speaker icon) now. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1544477] Re: No sound notification for new SMS (Ubuntu Touch)
I did not reproduce this problem yet. But according to the comment #48, when problem happens, neither sound notification nor vibration work. So it does not look like a pulseaudio problem since the vibration does not work too. When problem happens, to check if media-hub-server sends playing request to pulseaudio or not, we can do test as below: 1) Problem happens 2) Use adb shell to connect the phone with computer 3) set environment variable according to /usr/share/upstart/sessions/pulseaudio.conf e.g.: $export PULSE_SCRIPT=/etc/pulse/touch.pa $export PULSE_CLIENTCONFIG=/etc/pulse/touch-client.conf $export PULSE_PROP='media.role=multimedia' $export PULSE_PLAYBACK_CORK_STALLED=1 4) $pulseaudio --kill && pulseaudio --start - --log- target=file:/tmp/a.txt 5) check /tmp/a.txt, make sure the pulseaudio starts successfully 6) $cp /tmp/a.txt /tmp/before-sms.txt 7) send a text message to your phone, trigger a sms event 8) $cp /tmp/b.txt /tmp/after-sms.txt 9) comparing before-sms.txt and after-sms.txt (or upload them to LP) If this problem does not happen, the diff should be like the attached file, we can see the media-hub-server really sent playing request to pulseaudio when receiving text message. ** Attachment added: "diff-of-without-this-problem.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/media-hub/+bug/1544477/+attachment/4692518/+files/diff-of-without-this-problem.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1544477 Title: No sound notification for new SMS (Ubuntu Touch) Status in Canonical System Image: Confirmed Status in media-hub package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I noticed for last 2-3 days there is no sound notification for a new SMS, but there's a blinking green LED notification. And for issue #2, I found if we open the u-c-c when unplugging the HDMI cable, the issue #2 will not happen. But it does not make sense to keep the u-c-c opened all the time since it is not a daemon app. So I think it is difficult to fix this problem in the u-c-c, I will focus on looking for a solution in the pulseaudio. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1649763 Title: Dell XPS 15 2016 with Ubuntu 16 Sound HDMI issues Status in unity-control-center package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This issue is related to sound not working properly on Ubuntu when switching between an external display using HDMI with 4K resolution and the standard laptop display. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1643812] Re: There is no entry in 'Play sound through' list when plug in headset jack [8086:9d70].
For most of the situations like one pulseaudio port only has one jack, this patch will not bring any change. So there is no potential regression. For the situation of one pulseaudio port has 2 or more jacks, it will bring some change, in the past, if one of the jacks is plugged and other jacks are not plugged, the pulseaudio will print out "Availability of port '%s' is inconsistent!" and will not set this pulseaudio port to available, this is a bug for pulseaudio. After applying this patch, this issue can be addressed by this patch. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1649763] Re: Dell XPS 15 2016 with Ubuntu 16 Sound HDMI issues
I don't think the issue 1 is a problem, since the pulseaudio's design is just like that. In the pulseaudio, the HDMI output does not have higher priority than internal speaker. If users want the sound output via HDMI, users need to select it manually. For issue 2, it is really a problem, and I can reproduce this problem on my own laptop, so it is a common problem instead of specific to Dell xps 15 and 4K monitor. I am debugging the pulseaudio's code and u-c-c's code, try to fix this problem from either PA or u-c-c. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1716359] Re: Unplugging headset with audio panel open mutes internal mic
This bug will not happen on Lenovo machines, since the headset-mic on Thinkpad is called Microphone instead of headset-mic. This bug only happens on Dell machines which can't detect headset microphone from HW perspective, so when a headset is plugged in, a headset-mic and a headphone-mic will be showed in the sound-setting, and the problem only happens under this situation. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1716359 Title: Unplugging headset with audio panel open mutes internal mic Status in unity-control-center package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: This bug was reported by our OEM team, I'm opening this public bug. BTW, If you plug a headset into a Dell laptop, and a "Unknown Audio Device" dialog (unity-settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/what-did-you- plug-in) pops up immediately, this means there are headset-mic and headphone-mic on this machine, then you can reproduce this problem on this machine. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1718824] Re: The analogue audio does not work on the Dell USB Dock
@Daniel, The commit https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio- dev/pulseaudio/commit/?h=ubuntu- xenial=312b9b8d36b90c6bae520722cf68e01b53832eeb is not sufficient to fix this problem, this commit only adds the conf file in the source repository, but forgot to add the conf in the build-sys. I already submitted a simple patch to upstream to fix it, but looks like the maintainer is on vacation, he has not shown up in the maillist for several days. I am wondering if we could merge this simple fix ahead of upstream, if we could, may I send an independent commit and set the version to 1:8.0-0ubuntu3.6; or you revert my previous commit, then I send one commit which contains both my previous commit and this new simple fix? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1718824] Re: The analogue audio does not work on the Dell USB Dock
@benste, The log in the #67 looks good, I can't find problem in it. After we confirmed this is a problem/regression, then reopen the status. But I don't think the change can make line-out stop working if it works before. If you want line-out or headphone of dock station to work, after plug it, please verify "pactl info" first, make sure the "Default Sink" is "alsa_output.usb-Generic_USB_Audio..." instead of "alsa_output.pci- _00_1f...", And if you want to change the default sink or the output profile (headphone or lineout0 of usb dock, you can open sound-settings to choose (system settings--->sound settings). If the description of above doesn't work, please upload an alsa-info.txt (run alsa-info.sh to generate alsa-info.txt). thx. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1718824 Title: The analogue audio does not work on the Dell USB Dock Status in HWE Next: Fix Released Status in OEM Priority Project: Fix Released Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in pulseaudio source package in Xenial: Fix Released Status in pulseaudio source package in Artful: Fix Released Bug description: SRU Document: [Impact] If users use the latest Dell USB Dock, e.g. TB16, they will found the analog audio (lineout jack) can't work under ubuntu linux [Test Case] After applying the fix, users can play sound via analog speaker or lineout freely. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1772383] Re: WD15 Dell Thunderbolt dock no audio
[No change - copying the file in the same dir adding .bak is sufficient right- or will this be read as a 2nd conf?] adding .bak is ok, after reboot, you can run pactl list cards to verify if the change takes effect or not. Before change: Profiles: output:analog-stereo-speaker: Speaker (sinks: 1, sources: 0, priority: 60, available: yes) output:analog-stereo-headphone+input:analog-stereo-mic: Headset (sinks: 1, sources: 1, priority: 80, available: yes) off: Off (sinks: 0, sources: 0, priority: 0, available: yes) After change, the 1st two profiles disappear. If the change takes effect, but it still can't work, I think it is not a pulseaudio issue, probably the firmware issue of dock or kernel driver issue. And you can verify by these commands: aplay -D plughw:CARD=xxx,DEV=0 test.wav (replace xxx with the name of usb audio card, aplay -L to check the name of usb audio card) aplay -D plughw:CARD=xxx,DEV=1 test.wav And BTW, what does "the vanilla ones from upstream" mean? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1772383 Title: WD15 Dell Thunderbolt dock no audio Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Followup from bug 1718824 and bug 1745765 respectively as reported in the other bugs neither front (headphones) nor back (line-out) jack is working after the updates. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1767784] Re: [regression] output device not recognized anymore since update 1:8.0-0ubuntu3.9
That is because you have 3 sound cards, all of the output devices on these cards are off in the pulseaudio: card #0, "HDA Intel HDMI", you didn't connect a monitor or connect a monitor without audio capability, so the "Active Profile" for this card is off. card #1, "HDA Intel PCH", there is no internal speaker on it, and there are only 4 line outs and 1 headphone on it, but you didn't plug anything in the lineout jacks or headphone jacks, so the "Active Profile" for this card is off too. card #2, "Brooktree Bt878" doesn't have output device on it. If you plug sth in the lineout jacks, headphone jack or hdmi port (with a hdmi audio capable monitor), the output device will not be the "dummy ouput". -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767784 Title: [regression] output device not recognized anymore since update 1:8.0-0ubuntu3.9 Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Since the update 1:8.0-0ubuntu3.8 to 1:8.0-0ubuntu3.9 , pulseaudio is not showing anymore my soundcard. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1768830] [NEW] the audio can't work on Lenovo machines with dual analogue codecs under ubuntu 18.04
Public bug reported: Steps: 1. Install the ubuntu 18.04 on the machine of Lenovo P520. 2. Login system. 3. Plug in an external headset to record and playback in front and rear panel. Expected result: Output and input audio should work in front and rear panel. Actual result: Front panel audio doesn't work at all. Just output audio working, input audio does't work in rear panel. So far the ubuntu 18.04 just imported alsa-lib v1.1.3-5 from debian.org. And we have several Lenovo machines like Lenovo P520 which have 2 analogue audio codecs on them, to make the audio work on those machines, the kernel needs 3 patches for alsa driver, and those 3 patches are already in the linux kernel from linux-4.12, kernel is not a blocking issue under ubuntu 18.04: 7beb3a6e ALSA: hda - Support Gigabyte Gaming board with dual Realtek codecs 56798e6b ALSA: hda - Use a helper function for renaming kctl names ca169cc2 ALSA: hda/realtek - Add Dual Codecs support for Lenovo P520/420 Besides those 3 patches for kernel, we also need 5 more patches for alsa-lib. Because the ucm configuration files are named by card_long_name, these 5 patches intends to introduce the card_long_name searching for ucm and the configuration folder/files for Lenovo machines with dual analogue codecs. the 5 patches are: 2b9b3f01 ucm: Assure the user input card name not to exceed max size of card long name (it is in the alsa-lib v1.1.4) 4b9297e6 ucm: Load device-specific configuration file based on the card long name (it is in the alsa-lib v1.1.4) b7e56af8 conf/ucm: Add dual HD-audio codecs config for Lenovo (it is in the alsa-lib v1.1.6) 181f8e25 ucm: adding the folder of card_long_name when finding verb conf file (it is in the alsa-lib v1.1.6+) 81db276f conf/ucm: increase the input volume for LineIn (it is in the alsa-lib v1.1.6+) To backport these 5 patches to v1.1.3-5, the 3rd and 4th patch need minor change to resolve the patch conflict. And I attached 5 patches to this bug, these patches can be successfully applied to v1.1.3-5 without any change. After applying this patches, the ucm searcher will look for folder according to card_long_name first, if it fails, it will fallback to use card_name as before, so these 5 patches are safe and will not introduce any regression. ** Affects: hwe-next Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: alsa-lib (Ubuntu) Importance: Critical Status: New ** Tags: originate-from-1735041 sutton ** Package changed: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) => alsa-lib (Ubuntu) ** Summary changed: - the audio can't work on Lenovo machines with dual analogue cocecs underubuntu 18.04 + the audio can't work on Lenovo machines with dual analogue codecs under ubuntu 18.04 ** Tags added: originate-from-1735041 sutton -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1768830 Title: the audio can't work on Lenovo machines with dual analogue codecs under ubuntu 18.04 Status in HWE Next: New Status in alsa-lib package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Steps: 1. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1718824] Re: The analogue audio does not work on the Dell USB Dock
reply #47 and #48: To fix this bug (#1718824), the pulseaudio_11.1-1ubuntu3.debdiff is enough. As a result, the pulseaudio_8.0-0ubuntu3.8.debdiff and the pulseaudio_10.0-2ubuntu3.1.debdiff are basically identical to pulseaudio_11.1-1ubuntu3.debdiff. They do not contain the content of pulseaudio_11.1-1ubuntu4.debdiff because the 1ubuntu4.debdiff want to fix a regression introduced by commit 41782240, this commit is not applied to artful and xenial, so for 0ubuntu3.8.debdiff and 2ubuntu3.1.debdiff, they don't need the content of 1ubuntu4.debdiff. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1718824 Title: The analogue audio does not work on the Dell USB Dock Status in HWE Next: In Progress Status in OEM Priority Project: Triaged Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in pulseaudio source package in Xenial: Confirmed Status in pulseaudio source package in Artful: Confirmed Bug description: SRU Document: [Impact] If users use the latest Dell USB Dock, e.g. TB16, they will found the analog audio (lineout jack) can't work under ubuntu linux [Test Case] After applying the fix, users can play sound via analog speaker or lineout freely. ** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu Xenial) Status: Confirmed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1750947 Title: pulseaudio print lots of error when selecting unavailable profile Status in HWE Next: Fix Released Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in pulseaudio source package in Xenial: Fix Released Bug description: SRU Document: [Impact] A HDMI audio device usually has several output ports, each port represents a profile in pulseaudio, without this patch, the puseaudio always choose the first profile no matter it is active or not. [Test Case] connect each port of HDMI device, and check if the profile of that port is active or not. [Regression Potential] The patch will check all ports under each profile, if a profile only contains unavailable ports, this profile will be set to unavailable as well. Without this patch, all profiles are always available, then if a profile includes a unusable hdmi-output, and pulseaudio select this profile to be active (since its priority is the highest), the kernel audio driver will crash. I think this patch will not introduce regression: 1) It is a correct logic to set a profile to be unavailable if it only contains unavailable ports. 2) pulseaudio-artful and pulseaudio-bionic already include this patch, they work very well 3) I tested this patch on 1 lenovo laptop, 1 lenovo desktop, 1 dell laptop and 1 dell desktop, all worked well as before 4) tested this patch on two dell machines (LOAD5-DVT2-A2 and Dawson-JC-C without analogue audio) which have unusable hdmi-output profile on them, the kernel driver did not crash anymore and audio function worked very well. [Other Info] Only pulseaudio-xenial has this problem. we need to backport this commit to pulseaudio-xenial. https://cgit.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/commit/?id=a222a07920731f3c4967faccab7469af50b428a4 After printing out the error logs, the kernel crashes and system hangs. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1718824] Re: The analogue audio does not work on the Dell USB Dock
Just checked the pulseaudio_11.1-1ubuntu4_amd64.deb, the dell-dock-tb16 -usb-audio.conf is in it, and will be put to the folder /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/profile-sets when installing this package. That is expected, so the bug 1718824 should be fixed in this version. I didn't test it on real hardware since I don't have the hardware, the hardware is in Taipei office. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1718824 Title: The analogue audio does not work on the Dell USB Dock Status in HWE Next: In Progress Status in OEM Priority Project: Triaged Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in pulseaudio source package in Xenial: New Status in pulseaudio source package in Artful: New Bug description: SRU Document: [Impact] If users use the latest Dell USB Dock, e.g. TB16, they will found the analog audio (lineout jack) can't work under ubuntu linux [Test Case] After applying the fix, users can play sound via analog speaker or lineout freely.
