I mean, when I publish my extension, the web page suggested me to
write to aooad...@extensions.openoffice.org. But
aooad...@extensions.openoffice.org bounced my mail. ^^;

So maybe aooad...@extensions.openoffice.org is the wrong contact

Community in Mexico City

2017-06-21 Thread imacat
Dear all,

I'll travel to Mexico from Taiwan on 7/1-10, and stay in Mexico City
from 7/5-10. My main purpose is to attend to WikiWomen Camp 2017 in
Mexico City, but I would also like to meet the local OpenOffice/ASF/FOSS
community in Mexico City if possible. Is there any community meetup in
Mexico City during 7/5-10? Is there anyone that I can contact with?
Thank you very much in advance.

I'm not sure on this since I do not know whether my submit talks are
accepted.

I would like to ask when the Open Document Editors devroom will
announce the result of CFP? The announced time line (12/11) has passed,
and I do not see the result. I *REALLY* need to book the flight soon.
The cost of the flight gets 200USD more over the last week. Does anyone
here know the time line now? Thank you very much!

Re: Sourceforge

2015-06-05 Thread imacat
(I did not see any reason this discussion should go private, so I
moved it to public.)

As far as I read, the GIMP team had never opt-in distributing
adwares/malwares. They did agree to share SF.net's ad profit, but not
bundling adwares/malwares with their installers. And SF.net did
hijacked GIMP for Windows without authors' consent.

Goodbye, SourceForge.

Anatomy of SourceForge/GIMP controversy (from GIMP team)

What happened to Sourceforge? (from VLC developer)
https://blog.l0cal.com/2015/06/02/what-happened-to-sourceforge/

I looked into which projects SF.net hijacked, and surprisingly found
Apache HTTPD, Apache Derby, Apache Directory Studio, Firefox, MySQL,
PostgreSQL, Nmap, The R-project.

Apache HTTPD, Apache Derby, Apache Directory Studio, Nmap, R

GIMP, VLC

Firefox, MySQL, PostgreSQL

So who's next? Apache OpenOffice? When will there be a new
malware/adware-enabled Apache OpenOfffice installer? I suppose we
should move from SF.net to a trustworthy mirror solution.

It sounds like they are recycling old news or something. The whole
opt-in advertising brouhaha occurred a few years ago, We did not opt-in,
so it was not an issue for us. Sounds like GIMP first opted-in, then
opted-out, but it is not clear whether as a community they spoke with one
voice and whether it was clear to SF whose voice represented the
community. Apache projects have a governance model and a decision making
process that makes that kind of misunderstanding less likely.

I found that I cannot digitally sign my documents with 4.1 as 4.0
anymore. Is it a planned change, or a bug?

can you provide more information how exactly you did it in 4.0? I am
not very familiar with document signing and haven't signed a document
before. The information I found is not clear to me and the behaviour
is always the same in 4.0, 4.0.1 and 4.1 at least on Mac. I have a
self signed cert created ...

On Linux, OpenOffice document signature is done via the Mozilla
firefox certificate store. On Windows, it is done via the Windows
certificate store.

I suppose the procedure is as follows:

1. Get/create a personal X.509 key/certificate with e-mail as the common
name. Self-signed personal key/certificates should be OK.

2. Import it into the Mozilla firefox certificate store or Windows
certificate store.

3. Close OpenOffice, including the quick run icon, if it is currently
running. Restart it.

4. Save some document with something.

5. Sign the document from [File]=[Digital Signature].

Before 4.0, the personal key/certificate in the Mozilla certificate
store will be shown in [File]=[Digital Signature]. On 4.1, this is
missing.

Digital signature is an important part to OpenOffice macro security
and document integrity. If this is unintended, we will have to do
something to fix it.

Does anybody know more about document signing and how it is intended
to work?

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Development+Snapshot+Builds

So what happens to a document that was signed with AOO 4.0.1? Can you
read it in AOO 4.1? Can you verify the signature? Same for a signed
macro?

I understand Juergen's point on the removal of Mozilla library. But
I'm not sure if we can take this lightly.

Documents that were digitally signed can still be opened and edited,
but their signatures cannot be verified, and they cannot be signed again
once they are modified.

Document macros that were digitally signed can still work if their
signers were confirmed before. But these macros will not work for the
first time on newer installations unless their users change their
security method. Newer document macros cannot be signed anymore, and
the users have to change their security method. I do not know if this
is serious or not.

Sorry I found this problem too late.

I think it is important to know whether AOO 4.1 fails safe with
signed macros if it is unable to verify the signature. If a user has
set security to allow only execution of signed macros and AOO 4.1
permits them to be executed without being able to verify the
signature, then we have a much more serious problem. I'm not saying
that this problem exists, but we should check carefully to make sure
it is not a problem.

-Rob

Does anybody know more about document signing and how it is intended
to work?

Juergen

It seems rather serious. I expect that ordinary private users are not
affected so much, but corporate or institutional users may be. One thing
we could do is to call for specific testing on mailing lists, so that
these power users can compare 4.0.1 and 4.1.0-RC3 in their concrete
experience on Linux/Mac. But we'll need the snapshots to be reachable
again (due to the already discussed infra problems) for this.

It's true that removal of Mozilla libraries was discussed and approved,
but the side effects at the time were believed to be almost irrelevant
with respect to this newly found one.

And thanks Imacat for reporting this... better late than after release!
Shall we capture it in Bugzilla with your instructions?

Sure! I cannot log on to bugzilla now, still investigating.

Last week I proposed a final schedule for our upcoming AOO 4.1 release.
We are a little bit behind because the fact that we had to fix some
further critical issues. Nevertheless I would like to propose a first RC
based on revision 1583666 from the AOO410 branch. We spend a lot of time
in preparing the RC in time and the upload is ongoing. The MacOS and
Windows versions are already available and the Linux upload is still
ongoing. But keep in mind the binaries are for convenience and the
release relevant bits are the source release.

The RC builds can be found as always under
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Development+Snapshot+Builds

An overview of the fixes issues, enhancements and tasks going into this
release can be found under
http://people.apache.org/~jsc/milestones/4.1.0-rc/AOO4.1.0_RC_fixes.html.
I invite all volunteers to help with the verification of the fixed
issues. Especially the issues related to translation updates/fixes
should be verified by native speakers.

A related RAT scan can be found under
http://people.apache.org/~jsc/milestones/4.1.0-rc/AOO4.1.0_RAT_Scan.html

I have also prepared patches (msp) for Windows and for the languages we
have released with AOO 4.0.1. The patches are intended for private use
only and of course for testing but not for the release. It's the first
time that we prepared a complete set of patches and we have to test the
functionality a little bit more. The related full install sets are
prepared for patches in the future and can release patches in the future
as well if they work as expected. By the way I have upgraded AOO 4.0.1
(en-US) on my Windows laptop with the msp to AOO 4.1 ;-)

I plan to start a vote for this RC later today and let it run until
Sunday night, means enough time to test and evaluate the bits careful.
Linux binaries will be available tomorrow latest.

We have not fixed and integrated all requested showstoppers because they
were not all showstoppers from my perspective and we should take into
account that we have limited resources in the project able to fix
issues. We focused on issues that are obviously showstoppers and on
those who are relevant for most of our users.

Working locally on a full checkout of ooo-site:
http://openoffice.apache.org/website-local.html#how-to-do-website-development-locally-for-technical-users

(1) urlrewrite.sed needs the additional rules.

(2) To convert:

$ cd ooo-site/trunk/tools
$ ./urlrewrite.sh . # there is a dot at the end - please use it.

(3) Do a local build.

(4) Commit the massive changes.

Voila! If the project wants to define the additional url rewrites then I
will find cycles this weekend, or I can guide someone else.

No its not, as I wrote in the part you quote, www.openoffice.org will
continue to have https: but also https: as pr request from the project.

But if I might remind you sent a mail to infra, asking why https: was not
implemented for www.openoffice.org, which I and pctony responded to.

And if you look at INFRA-6608, you will see a comment from andrea 3 August:
And we will want to use it, even though there is no authentication there,
for
http(s)://www.openoffice.org
(this is mainly because we receive a steady, even if low, amount of
complaints from users who cannot browse our main site on HTTPS).

We infra have done exactly as the project asked us to do according to
INFRA-6608, and that is not correct ??

I actually never understood why https: was wanted on www.openoffice.org,
but it was not a problem to do it, so it was done.

today is a day where I am less proud of being AOO-PMC. We (AOO) have been
after infra to get a certificate and get it implemented. Yesterday mark
took a big chunk of time and with some help from me, got it implemented. I
think infra should have a thank you, instead !

You can ignore me if my help is not needed. But, still,

I would never ignore a helping hand, and especially not a qualifed one as
yours.

Ah... That is totally unnecessary. ^^;

1) Thursday evening (16-22 UTC), I wil combine the single forum databases
into the EN database. This will mean short breaks on the single forum,
about 10min each (to copy the tables).
If time permits, I will convert the FULLTEXT back to MyIsam.
That's 0-6 UTC+8 here. I have works on Friday. I can stay up to at
most 19 UTC (3 UTC+8), but not after that.

ok, lets do this in another way, please select 2 forums (that have the
lowest usage) from the db list below:

en
es
fr
hu
it
ja
nl
pl
vi
zh
++

Then I will move tables in these 2 and convert the FULLTEXT tables, as soon
as I hear from you, and then you can test. Please give me a UTC time, where
you can test (today/tomorrow), then I do the changes just before that time.

Ah... it's embarrassing that, I will travel to another city later to
deliver an OpenOffice macro class for two days, and will return before
Thursday evening (16-22 UTC). ^^; That's the earliest time I'm
available this week.

And, currently, VI has the lowest traffic. But we have to notify
Phan first.

If it works with these 2 forums, I feel more secure with the rest, and
maybe Ricardo can do a check on them since he is in the same TZ.

And what do you mean by combining short forum databases into the EN
databases? So we will only have EN database in the future?

Yes, and it will problaly be called forumsaoodb.

Remark, this is not a problem because all tables (in use) have the naming
standard:
 phpbb_forum_table

if you look e.g. in IT, you will see
phpbb_it_sessions_keys
phpbb_it_sitelist
phpbb_it_smilies

There are 2 databases I dont understand at the moment:

ps_helper
test

any ideas ?

The ps_helper database:

https://www.google.com.tw/#q=ps_helper+mysql

The test database can be safely ignored. It's a standard MySQL
database for testing purpose. When installing Perl DBD::mysql library,
we need a database to test if DBD::mysql is working. There should
always a database named test (although some DB admins prefer to remove
it), but you do not need to bother with its contents.

2) Friday morning (8-11 UTC) I will convert tables. This happens online,
and only means slow system while I do it.

That is 16-19 UTC+8. Normally I would be stuck in the traffic going
home at this time on Fridays, but I could stay in the office if necessary.

 see above.

3) Friday afternoon (15 UTC, depending on pctony), we can take the forums
down for approx 2hours to move the databases.

That would be perfect for me.

it would for me too, but pctony has to go to hospital with his kid, so we
try to see if we can do it thursday (24/10).

I would really apriciate your help with the first 2 forums, to make a more
thorough test. And then hope that ricardo could do a smoke test on the
others.

This is of course a service that infra provides so if you want it
postponed, we will have to find a way.

And also, please add the date (10/24, 10/25). It's confusing to
guess if Friday is 10/25 or 11/1. (And normally I would bet on 11/1 as
10/25 is very close.)

Sorry about that, good idea.

rgds

In order to finalize the database changes Thursday and move friday, we
need
someone with access to all forums to help with the test.

Could this be an acceptable plan ? The time is needed, but if preferred
I
can do it friday or saturday evening instead (depending on pctony).

This is now impacting other services and needs to be resolved ASAP,

FWIW the total downtime was 11 minutes. Which is pretty fast

The service is back. IMO it also quicker. Immediate difference is that
Wiki VM is only consuming 500 MB of RAM now, before it was using 2.8GB.

OK, thank you! It seems that in the end interruption of service was
minimal. I've removed the note from the home page. Of course, for
the next maintenance operations, including the forum, please give us
some more time to inform users.

Of course we will, in fact we gave you the best we could today given the
circumstances we found ourselved in.

The forum move will need to have as many tables as possible converted
from ISAM to inno. This is critical, as we only run MySQL 5.5 and will
not be install 5.6 anytime soon, as a result all fields that require
full text search enabling need to keep that table in ISAM.

JanIV did this already for other DBs and he should be consulted on how
to do this. It is likely this will be a many hour operation and is a
pre-requisite. I dont wan't to force a date on the community to have
this done by, but we need to action this ASAP. To prevent further issues
to other VMs on the same host as forums.

Can I please ask that if we do not hear any offers of support to help us
convert these tables by Weds this week that Infra will set a date (with n
days notice) and do the work ourselves.

Forum Privilege Check

2013-10-15 Thread imacat
Dear all,

As Drew requested to resign from the administrators in all forums,
and TerryE's account will be removed from administrators, too, I'm
planning to check the privileged accounts on all the 10 forums, and
remove inactive administrators that haven't logged in for more than *1
year*.

1 year here is defined as from Oct 1st, 2012 to the last minute
of the removal. Administrator privileges is defined as the
Administrators and Global Administrators groups. I shall check and
later present a list of the administrators to be removed.

If anyone know of any of these inactive administrators, you may ask
her/him to logged in if they still are willing to help the forum
administration. Or, in case if their administrative privileges are
removed, they can be added in again.

Please discuss under this thread of there is other consideration.

As commented on a thread on dev list, I already removed Terry and Drew from

On ES forums, the active administrators are me (user id RGB-es, I have
founder karma), Mauricio Baeza (user id mauricio) and Imacat.

The Number of Active Forum Administrators

2013-10-15 Thread imacat
Below is a list of active forum administrators. I am included in
all the numbers, but I normally do not get involved into the forum
operation. So the actual numbers of active forum administrators should
be the numbers listed minus 1.

I think we need at least two active administrators for each forum,
in order to be the back up of one another in case of someone
unavailable. That means the following forums will need at least one
more administrator:

* HU (Hungarian, magyar nyelv)
* IT (Italian, Italiano)
* JA (Japanese, 日本語)
* PL (Polish, Polski)
* VI (Vietnamese, tiếng Việt)
* ZH (Chinese, 中文)

Besides, I would like to call for help from another PMC member as
the administrator of all the 10 language forum, as a back up of me (and
so will I be the back up of you). You don't need to understand all the
10 languages. :p You don't need to get involved into the actual forum
operation. But it would be nice to have experience in forum operation
and communication (i.e. was a moderator somewhere for months).

Thanks a lot for this work. I now see that
http://forum.openoffice.org/vi/forum/
is open again for registrations but all topics seem locked. Could they
be unlocked?

Ouch. Thank you for the reviewing. ^^; They were unlocked.

Then the two last steps I see are:

- Phan creates an announcement to say that the Vietnamese Forum is open
and posts it in the Announcements section

Ouch. I have done that. Phan you may delete and replace my
announcement with yours.

- The same announcement, together with something saying that OpenOffice
4.0.1 is available in Vietnamese, is added to
http://www.openoffice.org/vi/ (in this case Phan can post the text here
and someone will copy it to the site).

I shall leave this to Phan.

account, it seems to me it should of gone also. Same for my account, there

OK. Per your request, I have removed you (Drew), along with TerryE,
from the administrators' list. Thank you for your services all this
time. ^_^

The current VI administrators are:

Administrators: vietnamesel10n, imacat
Global Administrators: vietnamesel10n, imacat, floris v

As I actually do not get involved into the forum operation, this
left us only one site administrator, Phan, now. Phan, you may need to
recruit at least one more help, or contact floris v to see if you could
work together, in case you are not available. We don't want to
overwhelm you.

P.S. I shall do a privilege clean-up for other forums, too.

On the ES forums, I just created a new group called Administradores
eméritos (Emeritus administrators) and put you and Terry there. Same
colour of admins but same rights of volunteers (normal users + access to
the hidden subforums, nothing else).

I mean, while I think it is great from you that you ask for removal of the
privileges that you are not planning to use, it's not right to just
downgrade your accounts after all you did for the forums ;)

Regards,
Ricardo

@Janl, yes I should be hitting the forums more (easy to do 'more' since I'm
starting at zero) but I don't really need admin rights to be useful there -
and if I did become active, seeing something where such rights could be put
to use, well then I can always ask for them. It seems to me to be the
better way to go, rather then having long dormant accounts.

@Phan - thank you for taking this on, it is very good to see the site open
again.

Thanks,

So is it OK to reopen the VN forum?

I thought it was Drew that told me that the VN forum has too many

OpenOffice 4.0.1 in Vietnamese was released a few days ago. Now it would
be a good moment to reopen the Vietnamese forum, and consider Vietnamese
mailing lists after that.

I see that the topic at
http://forum.openoffice.org/**en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=50t=**
64457p=286122http://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=50t=64457p=286122
has no opposition, but no progress either.

All we need now is that Mr. Phan Anh registers on both
http://forum.openoffice.org/en
http://forum.openoffice.org/vi
with the same username and then posts to the topic above saying that he
accepts to be a moderator, right?

Then we can reopen the forum and put a short announcement on
http://www.openoffice.org/vi/
and revisit the issue in a few weeks to check if the workload is
manageable.

Regards,
Andrea.

So please still count me as -1, although this does not affect the

Nevertheless, this release is great! It's really pity for me not

everybody on your hard work on this release.

imacat's VOTE was not a Veto as you cannot veto a release.

Enough misunderstandings here (I think that Jan was saying: Juergen
cannot decide by himself whether a -1 is valid...).

Anyway, let's update the tally to 24 +1 votes (14 binding) and 1 -1
vote (imacat, binding) and move on.

As Juergen already wrote, we remain committed to make the traditional
Chinese version available at the earliest occasion, it is already at
100% but it simply came too late to build/include it. In the meantime,
it will be available as snapshot build.

do whatever you want, from my point of view imacat voted on something that
wasn't part of the vote. It remains an invalid vote for me.

OK. I verified the hashes and signatures.

However, we should clarify which public keys to use. Right now we
say four different things:

1) We have a KEYS file in the dist/incubator directory:
http://www.apache.org/dist/incubator/ooo/KEYS

2) Your RC page points this file, which doesn't exist:
https://people.apache.org/keys/group/ooo.asc

3) Your RC page also points to this file, which is not really suitable
since it is in your personal directory:
http://people.apache.org/~jsc/developer-snapshots/aoo.KEYS

4) The download page instructions
(http://www.openoffice.org/download/checksums/3.4.1_checksums.html#howto)
points to this file, which does exist:
https://people.apache.org/keys/group/openoffice.asc

I thought the convention was to put a KEYS file into the root of the
project's dist directory. If so we need to remember to copy it over
into our TLP directory for AOO 4.0.

yes and there is already one that I have copied from the incubator. I will

no, it is too late and I won't do a respin. But I will integrate the
translation on trunk immediately and we can build an unofficial
snapshot version.

The reason is quite simply, it is too late, we don't know potential
other problem triggered by incorrect translation or whatever, nobody
has tested this version.

But as I wrote in another mail I will integrate it on trunk and we can
prepare a snapshot version for testing.

Concerns should have been risen at that time, it was discussed on the

For this particular case, the translation of the main 4.0.0 feature is
incomplete https://translate.apache.org/zh_TW/aoo40/svx/source/sidebar/
How serious would it be to release this translation in such a state? The
same applies to other languages released in 3.4.* but not in this 4.0.0
RC.

Hmm... I see the problem with side bar translation. And I'm very
sorry that I was in my research paper and did not notice the previous
discussion. However, there are several issues of concern:

1. I am going to give a talk in our largest local open source
conference (COSCUP 2013, http://coscup.org/) on 8/3, and plan to
announce OpenOffice 4.0. It is the first talk after the key notes. It
would be very embarrassing to announce it without a local version released.

2. There would be a large-scale deployment around August or September
(6000-7000) in a government department, and they are planning to join
our development force in order to fix some Chinese problems in
governmental use. If OpenOffice 4.0 Traditional Chinese version is not
available at that time, we could only give them 3.4.1, which their
development could not be based on.

I've asked our local community to help the translation in urgent.
If we can finish the Traditional Chinese sidebar translation with
certain amount, could it be OK to release it?

I have now been on the forum vm, testing my new access.

While I was in there I made a couple of observations:

1) number of apache work thread mysql max_connections, which is generally
a bad idea. The number of work tasks is higher than the actual load calls
for, so the work parameter should be adjusted.
2) mysql tables are not performing too well (indexes), it seems they were
last tuned ages ago. Some of the table could benefit from being converted
to innoDb.
3) memory/disk and other resources are fine and not a problem

4) due to the heavy php usage, the site would benefit from fast-cgi
(requires httpd upgrade)
5) It seems that a lot of identical pages are been requested, using
trafficserver would lower the mysql load a lot (on wiki2 the difference is
more or less double). This might also call for some more memory.

Some work for the new maintenance team.

HI.

It sounds more like a mismatch between the number of httpd worker tasks and
mysql max_connections. It is important that max_connections is higher than
the number of work tasks (or with fast-cgi the number of php processes).
When correctly configured you will just experience longer reply times, when
the server is busy and no sql errors.

I fixed a similar problem on mwiki as part of the upgrade, but I do not
have access the vm where the forum runs.

Re: Mwiki possible name change.

2013-01-18 Thread imacat
Considering forums.openoffice.org altogether, I would vote for
wiki.openoffice.org instead of wiki.openoffice.apache.org.

1. The existing community is built on this current host name. It would
only confuse the community to change it. This is especially true that
we have changed it just recently.

2. It causes trouble to forward discussion thread URLs, pages when the
host name is long.

Hi.

I want to inform the community about an ongoing discussion in Infra
regarding the use of wiki.openoffice.org or
wiki.openoffice.apache.org

Background: We decided sometime ago to let me upgrade mwiki, which I
did,
with great help from many in here.

After that there has been a relatively high load on the VM (very
positive)
and bi-daily kernel panics due to lack of resources.

It was then decided to make a new VM with a new ubuntu, instead of an
upgrade in place (to get rid of the kernel panic) which I deemed risky
due
to the state (and documentation) of the installation.

I have completed the work with the new VM, and we were ready to transfer
the live site.

At that point I learned about plans of using https instead of http.
Infra-root has a policy that all logins (not only for committers)
should be
done through https.

Using https, requires a certificate, and the ongoing discussion is
whether
*.openoffice.org is really needed or if *.openoffice.apache.org
would
be ok.

If I have understood the details correctly (sorry for being vague, but I
have not been able to get a clear answer), the users would address
https:
wiki.openoffice.org or http:wiki.openoffice.org and get a response as
https:
ooo-wiki.openoffice.org or https:ooo-wiki.openoffice.apache.org.

IMHO renaming goes in the wrong direction. I think we should be
looking to get the entire website on to one domain, either all on
openoffice.org or all on openoffice.apache.org. Splitting things up
is confusing for users, makes extra work for us (and for Infra),
confuses the hell out of Google Analytics.

I'd really like to see everything under one domain, including our blog
and even CWiki (or migrate CWiki over to MWiki).

That's my ideal. Is it impossible?
it is highly possible.

I thought converting cwiki was taken off the table. we discussed it earlier
and said it should be after the upgrade. since then no one on the mwiki
side have volunteered.

Sorry, I didn't mean to convert or migrate now, as part of the present
set of activities. I meant longer term it would be good to get under
a single domain.

-Rob

I have written/mailed several times that openoffice.org is a legacy,
very
important to AOO, and hope it has been understood. The latest discussion
seems to go in the direction of getting a certificate for openoffice.org
,
but there are no guarantees.

Is the issue cost? We could do a mini-fundraising plea on our
homepage. I bet we could raise the necessary funds for the
certificate.

Note: If I understand the security concern with the login, aren't we
in the same issue with the phpBB forums? Would a single cert be able
to cover that as well? Or do we need one cert per subdomain?

for some reason there seems to be resistence against wildcard cert, even
though apache.org is a wildcard.

latest news is that the https discussion has been postponed, so we at least
can get a stable server.

Regards,

-Rob

I have informed infra, that I cannot participate in works that causes a
url
name change, without having a green light from the AOO community.
Meaning
that I am now just monitoring what happens and not participating.

I am sorry to have partly caused the current situation, I wanted to
make a
clean installation to make the VM easier to maintain, had I not done
that,
the https discussion would problaly never have surfaced.

I have no deadline for the change, mainly because it is done by others,
but
I am convinced that Infra will end with a solution that the community
can
accept.

Please take this as information, I cannot go into a discussion on
behalf of
Infra (I am not infra, but we do have other committers that are infra).

consider this: Offer to do an interview, via email or Skype, with

So my personal preference would be to at least keep a means of
reaching the forum and wiki via apache.org. Perhaps I'm the only one
with this issue, or perhaps it's relatively rare, but still my take is
that more options is better.

You may try ooo-wiki.apache.org and ooo-forums.apache.org instead.
These two host names are not redirected to wiki.openoffice.org and
forums.openoffice.org.

Did you mean that ? both are redirected !

I thought I was making mistakes, so I tried again. Only
user.services.openoffice.org and wiki.services.openoffice.org are
redirected to forums.openoffice.org and wiki.openoffice.org,
respectively. All other host names, if exist (and yes they exist), are
not redirected.

The DNS are pointed to the same IP. I mean the URLs (where httpd
deal with) are redirected or not redirected.

I just tried ooo-wiki.apache.org again, without cache and gets response
from wiki.openoffice.org.

It is correct though that ooo-forums.apache.org comes with a page, and if I
try forums.openoffice.org then I am redirected to
http://www.openoffice.org/projects/forums/ which does not exist. I am sure
you have a typo there and mean forum.openoffice.org which works.

As part of the change to wiki2-vm, the url-request goes through a common
proxy server, and there some of the old names have not been activated, one
of infra checked each of the names.

Ouch, you are right. ^^; Thank you for updating information.

Framebuffer is terrible in performance for desktop applications.

From the news article, it seems that Canonical is planning to

reasonable to solve the framebuffer performance problem, replacing it
completely with an X-server. However, I have many Android applications

Re: [PROPOSAL] New Apache OpenOffice 4 logo proposals...

2012-12-19 Thread imacat
Some honest thoughts:

1. These flat 3D plates feel a little weird. The lights of the
plates has the focus effect, but the lights of the plates have not.

2. I cannot see the connection of these plates with our four
components easily, as the colors of Writer, Calc, Impress and Base are
not Blue, Orange, Green and Purple. And we have other components such
as Math and Draw.

3. The directions of the lights are contradictory. The lights of
the orb come from above, while the lights of the plates (and also the
plate of the orb) come from right.

But still, thanks you very much for this great effort.

The upgrade will almost for sure be harder, but to me it seems beneficial
to use products from our own family, that way we help them and they
hopefully help us. I am also confident that it can be done without data
loss, which is an absolute no-go to me, we will not accept data loss.

If it is decided to go down this path, I will contact jspWiki and get
involved with their work so we have a real influence on how the wiki
software evolves (especially in regard of spam control).

If the only benefit is our own family, I do not see this as a
strong reason to risk for either data loss or hard work. Actually, the
previous admin Terry may have made some tweak on the MediaWiki. The
most concern for me is not data loss (we have backup), but if the wiki
can still run as before.

Also there are at least four questions that I see immediately.

 1. You said there will be no data loss. Could we assume JSPWiki is a
successor of MediaWiki?

 2. Are the currently-enabled plugins have their corresponding plugins

 3. Could there be a test machine that we can test first before change?

 4. What will be changed on the user side?

Re: [call for review] wiki maintenance

Thanks I did not know that LEFT JOIN and JOIN has different speeds on inodb
tables. I made the fast fix, and split xmaint_uids into smaller tables, and
is running now.

BUT I am dead nervous of deleting wrong data !! so the review in general
would be nice.

I have also decided to post the user list here, to give people a chance to
shout and get removed from the list. There are very little margin for
errors on our database, and I would not like to cause problems (I think I
already have used this years allowance).

Thanks for your suggestions, I will implement a couple of your ideas before
I release the final script.

Thanks for this tremendous work here. I'm still fighting with my
class and research project at 3:00am. ^^;

This server is a virtual machine. There is a limit to its CPU
power. And Andrea's suggestion is right. Join operations actually
creats a big n times m table first and then filter. That sucks when n
and m are both large.

I only had a quick look yesterday and I cannot check now, but there were
several possible speed improvements, including using a simple JOIN instead
if a LEFT JOIN and then discarding NULL matches, introducing a primary key
or an index in the wiki_maint_uids table and using update on joins instead
of subqueries. I didn't test any of these, and I didn't see the database,
so don't trust the lines above too much! They are just semi-random thoughts
based on the code I saw yesterday, and it could turn out that these changes
slow down the queries instead of improving them.

Hi, Robert,

As you are not subscribed to the list you missed imacat answer that I'm
copying below.

As she said, Apache OpenOffice do not ask for registration: it's a free
product and you can download it for free(1) and use it without limit(2) and
without registration

If he was installing an old version of OOo it would attempt to
register and fail. The user might have experienced that and then
tried to register manually.

Closest thing we have to registration is to invite the user to sign up
to our announcement list and/or follow us on Facebook for future
announcements,.

Actually, I also suspect the user might try to register the
www.openoffice.org website, as before. Or the forums, or the wiki, or
the mailing lists, or even the committer account. That's the reason I
asked What do you mean by 'register a new user'?

Thanks to RGB.ES for reminding us that the user might not be on the
list.

I agree, but choose someone who is not a speaker and make sure he has
access to Roller (and has actually tried to use it) before the
conference starts. This way we can be sure that communication will be
efficient.

I'm kind of doing it now, on our Google plus and Facebook. Although I
started it a little late and only posted the current topic.

The conference will take place in Portland, Oregon, USA, 26-28 Feb 2013.
The Call for Papers is already open and will stay open until 12 Nov 2012

If anybody missed this: the deadline for submitting talks is 11 Nov (so
in 3 days; and I was mistaken in writing 12 Nov, apparently it's closing
one day earlier).

North-American community members, please do submit a talk (if someone
needs an incentive: having a talk accepted will save you the 1300 USD
admission fee). Others are welcome too, of course.

I won't attend ApacheCon NA or submit a talk, for a few reasons:

I may not attend to ApacheCon NA 2013, too. Although I would love
to meet more of our OpenOffice US community in person, my school project
is really tight. I would have a serious problem if you see me in
ApacheCon NA 2013. :p

1) Time. ApacheCon is amazing, but I can't take another week off from
my, totally unrelated, job to attend the US edition too. (I also prefer
to spend my money in different ways, but time is the main issue).

2) Overlapping events. In the first weekend of that month (February
2013) we will already have FOSDEM in Brussels, which I will very likely
attend.

3) Conference spirit. ApacheCon US seems a business-oriented conference,
while ApacheCon EU is the community edition. We have plenty of project
members, especially in North America, who will feel perfectly at home in
a business-oriented conference, while the community edition is just
fine for me.

I might be wrong about item 3, but a lot of people on this list have
probably attended both ApacheCon NA and ApacheCon EU and can explain the
difference better than I can.

 Andrea.
