The proposed outcome is for that alias to be switchable by end users
between 3 configurations (always reports an error, always runs Python
2, always runs Python 3).

For that to be supportable, we need *distro* packages to always
specify either python2 or python3 (otherwise they'll break in the "not
specified" configuration, or when the alias points to the "wrong"
version).

Cheers,
Nick.

Nah, please don't do that. This rename and that rename have different
option syntax, so they are not interchangeable. We're better off just
having a different name.

I've got the idea for the name from Arch, but Arch packages the Debian
rename under this name. Arch also packages this rename but chose to name it
perl-rename.
It's doubtful upstream would agree on a name change, they're the first
result on CPAN for "rename" and the package has not been touched for years.

Apparently, the way this is done in Debian [1] is that the program is
installed as /usr/bin/prename and provided as an alternative to the
util-linux version of /usr/bin/rename via the alternatives system.
(After learning that I was able to find the Fedora copr by searching
for "Fedora prename").

However our packaging guidelines say alternatives binaries should be
given a suffix [2]. So maybe a reasonable thing to do is:

* call the package "prename" for cross-distro compatibility.
* install the binary as "rename.pl" or something but provide
/usr/bin/prename via symlink.
* propose (I'm not sure if this is a big enough change to need the
change process, but it should be discussed) making rename into an
alternative.

2017-08-06 Thread Bob Mauchin
I intend to package it for Fedora but I have no license file. I have
contacted the developer awhile ago and I'm still waiting for an answer.
It's based on a Larry Wall script under Perl license so there should not be
any issue.
Also I don't know if it's compatible with the guidelines but I renamed the
package: the original binary is named rename but was conflicting with GNU
rename so I patched the source to add a "p" prefix. I remember reading in
the guidelines that prefixing is an option in case of conflict but I'm not
sure it is the approved way.

Askbot not sending email notification on first postings

2017-08-06 Thread Chris Murphy
cross posting this on users@ and devel@, I'm not sure who all
regularly participates on askbot.fedoraproject.org as it's mainly user
to user.

The gist of this problem is you set up some keywords/tags and if
someone posts a question with one of those tags, you get an email.
Neat because I don't want emails for every question posted, just the
topics I'm going to be useful answering. Problem is, I don't get an
email notification for the original posting. I only get followup
emails from people answering or commenting to the question.

I already filed bugs upstream and downstream:
https://github.com/ASKBOT/askbot-devel/issues/705
https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure/issue/6174

Question is, has anyone else experienced this? It's been a couple
weeks since I posted the upstream bug without a reply and it seems
like a really big bug to be going on this long if everyone's affected
by it. So I'm just curious if this is affecting everybody and they
just haven't ever really realized it, or if it's an isolated case.

Thanks,

Welcome to Fedora!

This is interesting timing; a few days ago I found myself looking for
the Perl version of "rename" and installed your copr repository for
the script (https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/eclipseo/prename/).

If you are interested in submitting prename to the review queue in
addition to your other packages, I would be happy to take the review.

I see you've already been sponsored, which is great!

Are there any plans to potentially create a web interface wrapper
around fedrepo-req, similar to the old pkgdb admin requests interface?
Or perhaps even tear that part out of pkgdb and refactor it to shell
out to fedrepo-req? Being able to submit those requests via the web
was handy and (IMO) once of the nicest parts of pkgdb.

I imagine such an interface would be a very low priority, which is
fine-- I'm sure there are far more important things to work on in the
migration!-- but the lack of one seems like an annoying but small
regression.

"sustmi" GNOME Shell packages should be orphaned -- I'd like to take over

2017-08-06 Thread Andrew Toskin
There are a couple GNOME Shell extensions that I think ought to be orphaned.
Since I already maintain a few other GNOME Shell extensions, I'd be happy to
take over.

In the Fedora repos, there are two "sustmi" packages, named for the upstream
developer's GitHub handle. There's a single listing in the old PKGDB --
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/package/rpms/gnome-shell-extension-sustmi/
 -- but it's two (sub?)packages:

* gnome-shell-extension-sustmi-windowoverlay-icons
* gnome-shell-extension-sustmi-historymanager-prefix-search

A look on Bugzilla shows requests to update the packages going as far back as
2013, which never got any response from the maintainer:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/buglist.cgi?classification=Fedora=Fedora=gnome-shell-extension-sustmi

The only new builds in Koji over the past few years have been automated mass
rebuilds. From the changelog, it doesn't seem like there has been any manual
updates from the maintainer since 2012.
https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=925824

I've tried commenting on the Bugzilla threads, and tried sending requests
through PKGDB (just before it was deprecated), to be added as a co-maintainer,
but I haven't gotten any response either.

These packages have been badly neglected for a long time, and no longer work at
all on any supported Fedora release. I'd like to get them back in shape.

I don't think these scripts have been ported to pagure yet (exactly to avoid
breaking things over the week-end), so I doubt it's related to pagure over
dist-git.

Yeah, I think you *became* the main point of contact for packages which
previously had a group as the main poc. There's a plan for this for
bugzilla assignees but I don't know how that's meant to be handled for
stuff like this. https://pagure.io/dist-git-requests/

Or I could be wrong and it could be something else. :)

I'm not point of contact on any of these packages.

I guess it's possible that mail for any GNOME-related package is going
to me. I already had all Fedora notifications turned off to avoid this,

Introduction/looking for a sponsorship

2017-08-06 Thread Robert-André Mauchin
Hello,

My name is Robert-André and I'm looking to become a packager for Fedora.

I'm 33 years-old Frenchman. I first tried GNU/Linux in the late 90 with Debian
and what was
then Mandrake. Back then with no Internet, I remember It was tough to get set
up and find
help. After a Windows period, I got back to Linux in 2005 with Ubuntu's Hoary
Hedgehog
release. It was simple, almost everything worked out of the box, and I could
work without
having to « look under the hood » to make it work.

Following what I thought was questionable relations between Ubuntu and
upstreams, and their
choices to reinvent the wheel, i decided look for alternative distributions.
First Debian which
was close to what I've been using, and then Fedora. I had some reservation
about Fedora
because last time I had tried one (Fedora 16, Verne), the package manager was
quite slow
compared to apt-get. And this meant a lot to relearn. But I was quickly
conquered by its simplicity
and its « freshness ». And then dnf came around, it was fast and easy to use,
and I haven't left
Fedora since then.

Thanks to the French fedora-fr wiki which explains step-by-step how to make
your own package,
I've recently started to package my own things using the COPR service:
https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/eclipseo/
And now I'm looking to get them into Fedora. I've learned Fedora Packaging
Guidelines, and how
to use the various tool like rpmbuild, fedpkg, mock, Koji…

Here's a few of the projects I want to include:
 - rclone: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1473314 This Go app
allows you to sync your
files among different Cloud services. I had to unbundled it so it spawned a
dozen of new packages
to build (see the dependencies).
 - qdirstat: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1476201 It's an app
that allow you to track
how your disk space is used, like k4dirstart, but written in Qt5.
 - libva-intel-hydrid-driver
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1475962 This driver enables
video hardware acceleration for VP9 decoding on Skylake/Kabylake platforms.
(dependency cmrt:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1475961)

Since I proposed my packages, I've also started to do other reviews:
 - libcbor: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1474694
 - clustersos: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1476438
 - danmaQ: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1471806
 - xfce4-statusnotifier-plugin:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1476489
 - libsemigroups: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1476085
 - tpm2-abrmd: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1475228

So if you like my work so far, please consider sponsoring me for the packaging
team o/

Thank you.

For which reason are the dependencies broken? There should be a note
about that in these messages.

At least for me, they ain't:

> freefem++ has broken dependencies in the rawhide tree:
> On x86_64:
>freefem++-3.56-1.fc27.x86_64 requires libgsl.so.19()(64bit)

AFAIK, there was a new version of poppler pushed to Rawhide, but most of
the depending packages should be rebuilt now.

In my case above, the culprit indeed seems to have been poppler.
Apparently it broken texlive, i.e. I am facing a broken dep chain
poppler->texlive->freefem++:

DEBUG util.py:439: Error: nothing provides libpoppler.so.67()(64bit)
needed by texlive-pdftex-bin-6:svn40987-35.20160520.fc27.1.x86_64

I'll wait for a couple of days until the dust settles ;)

I bet this is related to the "point of contact in bugzilla" part in
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel-annou...@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/6OIOUQGVZV4P7ECQEMNDHBLVBRF3SJLB/
although this is a side-effect other than bugzilla.

For which reason are the dependencies broken? There should be a note
about that in these messages.

AFAIK, there was a new version of poppler pushed to Rawhide, but most of
the depending packages should be rebuilt now.

LTS and unchanging really isn't in Fedora's charter. But, we do want
releases to be solid for daily use, and it's true that a stream of
updates can detract from that. I really would like us to follow the
long-standing official updates policy
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Updates_Policy which says that updates
within a release should have minimal disruption.

I know this is at odds with many developer and packager desire to make
updated software available quickly, and I know there are a subset of
users who like this too. The Modularity initiative aims to make it
easy for us to do _both_.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here. Do you
mean that it would be nice to have a team of people who would work to
update packages across the distro if there are big changes to core
packages? We actually have that, in the Proven Packagers team. See the
"Mass package change proposal" for an example of this in action.

python-jira should not depend on python-tlslite as this dependency has been

Oh, I completely missed that. Many thanks for checking.
With python-sphinxcontrib-adadomain that leaves 8 spec files to be fixed.
I'll do it by hand, it seems less worth the updating the script.

If you search the diff for "Summary(" and "%description -l", you'll
find that Pyrenamer fails to carry translations over when it adds a
"python2-" subpackage. I've already taken care of python-sphinxcontrib-
adadomain, but I see some packages with Arabic translations that will
have to be fixed up by hand unless the script becomes smarter.
