[slim] Squeezecenter...What I'd Really Like to See Someday
I have a large music collection that I recently scanned in Squeezecenter 7.0. In browsing through my collection I have witnessed some problems with the way the tags are interpreted. For example, I have an album with out of order tracks. I'm guessing this is because the last two tracks are somehow tagged with a disc number and the rest aren't. So the tracks on this album are listed as 2-10 then 1 and 11. I used MP3tag to remove all tags and then did a rescan for new and changed music. This didn't fix things. So, I'm guessing for some reason either MP3tag didn't remove the disc number or Squeezecenter didn't think the tracks had changed. If the latter is the case I'd like to see a Delete from Database link so that when I do a rescan the modified files are picked up. On a side note, does anyone know of a tag editor that displays all of the potential tags in a file? With the editors I'm using I'm not sure where the disc number is coming from. -- Juliozaffo Juliozaffo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15512 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43938 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

If you have mp3tag set not to update the file timestamp when you save tags then SS doesn't know that anything has changed (it only looks for changed timestamps). You need to do a full rescan in this case (Clear library and rescan). Make sure you only have one set of tags in your files (eg not both id3v1 and id3v2). -s. -- slimpy slimpy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1524 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43938 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Investigating Lousy Internet Radio Connectivity
I'm just starting to research this, so I want to get my facts straight. Lately, it is becoming obvious that keeping a connection with an Internet radio station for more than a short period of time in our household is impossible. This is not a wireless issue -- I'm talking about a wired SB3 connecting to the Internet over a 5Mbps FiOS connection. My first inclination was to blame it on flaky or overloaded servers at the broadcasters end. But when normally very reliable broadcasters like Radio Paradise started dropping out on me, I began to suspect that something else was at play. Then, a week or so ago, it became apparent that Verizon, my provider, was changing IP address many times per day. (I've got a script running right now to see just how many times it changes a day.) My assumption is that if Verizon changes my IP number while I'm listenting to an Interent radio station, I'll lose my connection, correct? -- jonheal Jon Heal says: Have a nice day! http://www.theheals.org/ ~~~ SB3 (wired - 6.3.1) | Home-brew PC running XP Pro | DENON DRA-395 | PSB Stratus Bronze (2) | Outlaw Audio LFM-2 (1) | DIY Speaker Cables | Dayton Audio Interconnects jonheal's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2133 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43939 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Logitech doesn't dictate which plugins get written, they get written by users who wanted to solve a problem they have or extend functionality. So it's not a choice of one or the other. A UPNP client would have to be built into the player firmware, no small feat. It's up to Logitech of course, but there's a lack of interest in this forum because SqueezeCenter (even if not everyone likes it) provides many, many more features than a UPNP server. Personally I'd rather Logitech work on just about anything else...I'd never use a UPNP server myself and I have no interest in it. I'm using mediatomb as upnp server, and here you can change the whole listing and browsing structure of your files. This is the most critical task I think. I think that most people want a convenient listing of their files, and want to browse through the mp3-metadata of their music collection. That's what you can do with an upnp server like mediatomb. mediatomb is really nice, as here is a very active community which improves the server, and it's very customizable and runs nicely on a NAS (there are already ipkg packages for most NAS). Then why can't mediatomb be made to speak SlimProto? SlimProto is as open as UPNP. Re: [slim] Wife's music accessible easily and quickly??
Last night I 'discovered' Erland's excellent Multi Library and Custom Browse plugins. My SB3 experience has been transformed! At my wife's request I had included her iTunes library (principally because she wanted her playlists accessible), but the big downside was that many of our CDs and tracks were listed twice when browsing - once as the original FLAC file in the main library, and once as the MP3 created for use on an iPod. Worse still, it took a lot of button presses to find which version I was looking at. However, using the Multi Library plugin I was able to include all my best quality files files in my 'Standard Library' (defined as anything on my S: drive) and all the iTunes files in their own 'iTunes Library' (defined as anything on the P: drive). Using the Custom Browse plugin I was able to set things up so that at the top level of 'Browse' I see only 'Music Folder', 'Search', 'Standard Library' and 'iTunes Library', and entering either of the libraries I then get all of the original Browse options. Much simpler, and my wife and I can each find our own files without confusion. -- chill chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43917 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

But when normally very reliable broadcasters like Radio Paradise started dropping out on me, I began to suspect that something else was at play. Then, a week or so ago, it became apparent that Verizon, my provider, was changing my IP address many times per day. (I've got a script running right now to see just how many times it changes a day.) My assumption is that if Verizon changes my IP number while I'm listenting to an Interent radio station, I'll lose my connection to whatever station I'm listening to, correct? It may not have looked like it, but my last sentence was a question I was asking ... hoping for confirmation one way or another from more network-savvy people than myself. -- jonheal Jon Heal says: Have a nice day! http://www.theheals.org/ ~~~ SB3 (wired - 6.3.1) | Home-brew PC running XP Pro | DENON DRA-395 | PSB Stratus Bronze (2) | Outlaw Audio LFM-2 (1) | DIY Speaker Cables | Dayton Audio Interconnects jonheal's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2133 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43939 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Goodbye lousy internet radio - Hello streaming?
Like Jon Heal in his Investigating Lousy Internet Radio Connectivity thread, I am at the stage of abandoning internet radio. In my case this is due to network congestion and, I suspect, traffic shaping by France Telecom/Orange. I do however get excellent radio from my satellite receiver! A couple of years ago there was some discussion on this Forum concerning the streaming of PC audio to a Squeezebox. However, if I remember correctly, this was fairly (to me!) complicated and required Apache Server or some suchlike application. Did it go anywhere? Such a facility would really make SlimServer a complete home audio solution! Re: [slim] Investigating Lousy Internet Radio Connectivity
Yes, it would break the stream. A TCP stream is defined as a unique pair of IP:PORT, IP:PORT. If the IP changes, the stream goes away. Why on earth they would change a dynamic IP so often is another matter: that is just plain nuts. Something sounds wrong with their setup or your router or modem if it is changing DHCP that often. -- snarlydwarf snarlydwarf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1179 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43939 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Goodbye lousy internet radio - Hello streaming?
There are many wasy to do satellite radio and IIRC the apache server approach was used to separate the PC receiving satellit from the PC running Slimserver. If you can use a simple application to control the staellit hardware which is a command line application where command line options specify the channel to be used and the output of the spplication is an audio stream (e.g. wav, mp3, wma). The analogy would be the Griifin radioShark - which is a USB FM/AM radio - this is straightforward to stream through Slimservers. If you have a USB interface to the satellite receiver - then this approch will be applicable. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43957 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Accessing SqueezeCentre installed on WHS
Sounds to me that the name resolution isn't working. What is doing the name resolution in your network. This would tend to be the router. But it may also be necessary to set up the default domain suffix in order to pick up the right DNS name. To check this first try using the IP address of the server as in http://192.168.x.x:9000 replacing the 192.168.x.x with the address of your server. Assuming this works then it is purely down to your name resolution. In this case look at the network settings on one of your laptops and match them on the laptop. The other place where the resolution could be occuring is in the hosts file. -- Zaragon Zaragon's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14577 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43951 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
