Well, I got around to testing SoftSqueeze with 7.3.2 yesterday and it won't even play in sync mode whereas it sync'd fine on 7.2.1 on exactly the same hardware. Sync one way and the SB continues but no output from SS, sync the other and the SB stops playing as well. Re: [slim] What software setup for a new HP Windows Media Server
I've been using Squeezecenter on my MSS since I got it and it works great. You can either install it by remotely logging in (something new for me), or by adding "program manager" which allows you to access the MSS's desktop just like a regular PC. MSS will warn you that it's not recommended, but I haven't seen any problems. You will need need to right click on the install program to "unblock it", i.e. let Windows Home Server trust it for installation. Also, make sure you choose to run Squeezecenter as a "service." I'm not sure if you have that option at installation, but you can definitely run "SqueezeCenter Startup Options" from the Squeezecenter program list afterward. I have the Duet controller and it works beautifully with it. -- BlueWombat BlueWombat's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6159 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60268 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] What software setup for a new HP Windows Media Server
The 7.3.x and 7.4 betas have the WHS installer (MSI file extension). I have been running 7.4 beta for a while and it is very stable. If you don't want to run a beta, there are some good instructions for installing the old way (exe file) on the ripcaster site. There is currently a bug in the WHS installer where it will list every version in the "installed add-ins" list unless you uninstall via the console before installing each update. If you don't update often, it shouldn't be a big deal to do it that way. With the WHS installer, you also get a Squeezecenter tab in the console which allows you to start/stop SC, run cleanup tasks, and a few other things. You may want to read this thread for details: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=397678 Enjoy the HP MediaSmart. One thing to keep in mind, if you plan to use the PVConnect (Twonky server) that comes with the HP server, you will want to set Squeezecenter to use a different port. I tried running Twonky on a different port, but never could get it to work right, and ended up removing Twonky. Couldn't you still use your Netgear as backup for the MSS? Re: [slim] please help me pick a new router
I agree the WRT54GL running wrt is a very good solution. That was what I was running before I got the TEW-633GR. But I have a 15MB symmetric internet connection and the linksys just couldn't keep up. It started throttling my internet connection speed down when a lot of small packets when through it. Also the TEW-633GR as N wireless so you have two radios working at the same time. Works great at getting through walls and interference even to G devices like SB. Of course there is no substitute for a hard wired connection and this router had GIG Ethernet so there is never a bottle neck to my server. All this for only $25 more they a WRT54GL. The WRT54GL running WRT is a great solution though. Re: [slim] Anyone using a SSD on a Windows machine with SC?
Using the on-board video, but the machine is running headless on a shelf out in the garage. You could run it with no video card however. I either use SSH or the FreeNas web interface to manage it. I had XP running on it before but found that FreeNas was much more stable and a lot faster. I guess that's what you get from an OS that boots out of 96MB or so. It took a couple of days of mucking about to get the configuration the way I liked it but now I could build up one of these in about 30 minutes or so. I also have a 1.5 TB external drive plugged in to it and a cron job backs up the library at 2:00AM every day. The box was purpose built as a music server. As a bonus it does DAAP so the library shows up in iTunes (or a Roku, gasp!!) also. I do not have a power meter but would guess that it is pretty low wattage when the HD is idling. I have to add that I am an IT professional that builds and maintains high performance heterogeneous networks and graphics workstations for Medical Imaging and get to play with some very high end stuff, but every time I light up my Squeezebox or Boom it puts a smile on my face and I marvel at the technology and the community surrounding it. -- Relwell Relwell's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20448 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60181 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Album info makes track selection difficult
I recently purchased a Squeezebox Duet and started with a small selection of my online tracks. After installation I read the manual, and installed it again. All is working fine now, with a wired connection to the squeezebox, and my music collection on a Synology Diskstation 207+. But I am not very happy with the standard result when you select an artist. I would like to see the available tracks (numbers) for that artist, but instead I see a list of albums with names that give me no clue about the underlying tracks. At the moment I have about 12000 songs by 5000 artists divided over 6500 albums, nearly all compilation albums. So the album names are completely useless, because most of the time I see a bunch of albums with each one single track. And moreover, the option "all tracks" appears at the end of the list, so I have to scroll down first before I can select that option. While the Squeezecenter website control shows "all tracks" as the first option. Is it possible for the Squeezebox Controller to shows "all tracks" as the first option before all the albums. Or is it possible to skip the albums completely and directly show all available tracks after selecting an artist? I looked in the forums, but did not find recent postings about this issue. Re: [slim] Rhapsody Subscribers....
Hi, Recently I have found that Rhapsody channels are working much better, not sure if was 7.3 upgrade or Rhapsody fixing stuff but either way it seems a lot better than it was. However it still fails sometimes and here is what I have noticed... Rhapsody channels occasionally play tracks that they apparently have no right to play, t is not uncommon to hear a track on a channel that is neither listed nor available on Rhapsody. I have always assumed this was because it was available at one time and got stuck in rotation, but then they lost their rights. Anyway what I have noticed is that song will play fine, but within a couple of tracks everything hangs up with the authentication error. I have some artist channels that are much worse than others and I have noticed this correlation to frequency of non-authorized tracks. Maybe it is something you can think about. -- texmass texmass's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21670 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57304 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Connection problems SB classic
I think the first thing to isolate is whether the problem is internal in your WiFi network or external in the internet connection (AOL and DSL?). To eliminate WiFi as a variable, if you have a long Ethernet cable on hand, you could temporarily hard wire the Squeezebox to the router, to see if that makes any difference. One potential source of localized intermittent WiFi interference could be a cordless phone in use in the house. -- TiredLegs TiredLegs's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6201 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=60126 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Viewing Digital Stream Info on SB/D/TR?
Is there a plugin, or any other means by which I can view the digital stream info on a Transporter? I have many FLAC of varying bit and sample rates (16/44, 24/48, 24/96, 24/192) and it would be nice to view/confirm the rate that these are actually getting played. Hi Briain here. I'm not sure if Rockfather's monitoring this or not but the answer is yes, it will pass these on to the Linn. Oh and while you're getting wiring done...have Cat-5e network outlets in each room! Wireless issues are by far the biggest problem with these sorts of devices - and it's not these devices in particular, it's wireless in general. When it works, you don't think about it. Hello and Welcome to the Forum. It would really help to know your price range or budget? It also helps to know what they will be used for as well as what your expectations are? How many watts from the Receiver? They could be something as simple as a pair of AUDIOSOURCE ATC6DM, Proficient C605 In-Ceiling, or Proficient W660 In-Wall speakers and then there is going all the way up into speakers like the Thiel HigherPlane 1.2s. If it's low available power and only for background listening then I say go simple and cheap. Because background music is just that, something in the background. Where as listening to enjoy music and critical listening tends to require more expensive gear. After seeing my Vandersteen VSM-1s on the wall in my Media Room and the white VSM-1s on the walls in my living room, my neighbor bought a pair off of Audiogon in white and mounted them on the wall in the living room facing into the dining room for good sound in both rooms. Most people don't notice them on the wall unless they are right on top of them. As I said, there are tons of options and tons of speakers to chose from. I think anyone who is using the SB products has to be a tinkerer by nature. Let's face it, these things are not the radio, cassette player, cd player or even the turntable of the past. I guess I'm just tinkering a bit on the PC side of things to get it quieter, cooler and use less power, which has become more important. SC runs almost non-stop so it's best of it's as low power as I can get. Installing the SSD was a learning experience too, which is most of the fun for me. Certainly not installed like your normal hard drive so I felt some measure of achievement when it booted up with no issues. I'm not a novice by any means, but doing something different from my everyday grind is a nice diversion and needed I might add :-) Anyhoo, have a great day and keep enjoying the music. Glad to see I'm not on unchartered ground :-) I used it all last night and everything seems to be normal or a hair better. Menus snap opena and shut. iTunes loads much faster also. I had a WD 36GB Raptor in there before and even though they are touted as very "quiet", it was anything but. You could hear it reading from 10-15' away. 20 watts is pretty darn good too. Do you have a graphics board, etc in yours? I'm using the onboard graphics, but no monitor. I use Desktop Remote to get in to it when necessary, which isn't often. Re: [slim] iPeng Application 1.0 now on the App Store

Also: The servers need to be there because in 1.2 you are supposed to be able to move players between servers using D'n'D, which is especially important for using SN. > > I found the default skin for Squeezecenter to be usable in horizontal > mode on the iPhone. Interesting thought, especially since 1.2 will have some player and server settings in its menu tree. panos_k75;397236 Wrote: > I have been on 2.2 for quite a while. There's another issue with Squeezeslave that it will sometimes not accept volume changes but that will result in the handle popping back instead of not being accessible. > > When I try to control one of my soft-players sometimes it will take 3 > or 4 misses to get a hit on the volume control. Also volume control on > the iPOD app. is not that bad. Yes, but as stated before, that's NOT the UISlider control, but a MPVolumeView which does behave quite different (much better) but directly acts on the system volume. Haven't found a way to use that one, it's not even a control. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55514 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
