Re: [slim] Russound Keypad Interface - Interest Level?
I'm interested. I was going to do something like this myself. I'm a developer, but have not worked with LUA (nor have I even heard of it). I have a CAM6.6 and 4 UNO-S2 keypads. I also have a PC running homeseer which connects physically via the RS232 interface, and I bought a plug in from HomeSeer to control the Russound. There is not a lot of control going on between home seer and the russound Amp - the only functionality I have implemented is turning off all zones when the home alarm comes on. I use a fifth Russound zone as a 'home Security' channel - it says Front door open in the middle of the night to wake us up if someone is breaking into the house! It also plays door bell sounds when the front door bell rings. This 5th zone does not have a controller, so I also use the HomeSeer - Russound connection to make sure this zone is always on and switched to the correct channel - there is a macto that runs daily to switch that zone to the Home Seer sound card from the Homeseer PC (the home seer makes noises and talks). I could sacrifice the RS232 - Rusound connection. I was thinking of functionality like: If you switched to the Squeeze box zone using the SqueezeBox using a UNO-S2 keypad, then the up and down buttons could scroll through the 'Favorite' items on the Russound. The play button could start the selected favorite. Left and right buttons could skip forward and back in the selected playlist. I think it would be rediculous to try and port the entire controller functionality to the UNO-S2 keypad - you don't have enough ability to scroll to allow you to scroll through hundreds of artists or albums. I was thinking of developing this as a homeseer plug in. That would allow me to maintain my existing Homeseer-Russound connection. That assumes HomeSeer allows multiple devices to connect to the serial port connected to the Russound. When you say you are seeing what interest there is out there, are you interested in working on this with others like me on this? I have a fairly extensive range of servers and gear to test this on. I run Mac Mini, Linux (CentOS) and Windows XP in the house. The Home Seer machine that is physically next to the Russound amp is a Windows XP machine. This will probably have to be the machine that connects to the Russound. -- autefrum autefrum's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32421 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66706 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] How to use squeezeplay or softsqueeze
Softsqueeze has been removed from 7.4. There is 3.9 beta version which is available as an extension Downloader plugin. This will become an approved plug in the repository. The plugin needs to be installed on the SC's PC see http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62060. Do not use the zip file as changes in SC naming and libraries have broken that zip. The plugin from my repository should still work. Softsqueeze when accessed from SC Web page will be downloaded and run in the PC accessing the SC's web page. This PC can be different to the SC hosting PC. There are still a few bugs with 3.9 associated with 7.3/7.4 (e.g. sync issues with non MP3 streams) I was hoping to fix before 7.4 was released but it may have to be released as is. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67212 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] 802.11n Devices
I've been looking at buying an N router for almost a year now and could not conclude that any of them were finished products or worth the time over a godo G router. Real N is supposed to be 3-radio devices with 3 antennas. Try finding those on the market. Basically you cant. This does need to wait until the N standard is complete - and until manufactuers actually make real N routers and access points. I applaud Logitech for refusing to throw a half-finished product in this thing. Re: [slim] Love My Squeezebox! What's The Equivalent For Video?
Second the call on PS3 with PS3 Media Server. If you've got a decent computer you can get anything you want up on the big screen - anything your PC supports inc. IPTV - for $300. Pretty reliable solution too, at least for me. There are a million options and a lot of them are great. But the part I was worred about is that there is so much focus on this space now - and the rewards so huge for the company that nails it - that I reckon in four or five years there could be only 2 or 3 players that are head and shoulders above everyone else with options we haven't even heard about. So i think cost is important when buying something now. The other key factor is reliability - I love tweaking stuff but I've decided that one thing I never, ever want to have to optimise or fix is a media unit that goes funny when sitting down to watch a movie. -- Archer_11 Archer_11's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18515 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=40689 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Multi-Player Starting Points
My first suggestion is to try it using hardware players only (no SoftSqueeze or SqueezePlay or squeezeslave). My second suggestion is to be sure you are using SqueezeCenter 7.3.3 or 7.3.4. Big improvements were made to the sync code in 7.3, so that now sync'ing of hardware players should be very robust. If your hardware players won't sync with each other, then you might have issues of an underpowered server. You don't mention your server specs, how many players you are trying to sync, or even what codec you are using. All of these have a bearing on sync performance as well. If your hardware players sync fine, then the problem is only with SoftSqueeze. The bad news is that sync with software players is not assured because of latencies with sound cards, drivers, OS, and other things that SC cannot control. Sometimes sync with software players can be improved by fiddling with the sync settings in SC, but more often you'll be stuck with the kind of almost-sync that you have now. The only sure solution is to use hardware players. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67248 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Love My Squeezebox! What's The Equivalent For Video?
I'm using a Samsung BD-P4600 Blu-Ray player that has built in DivX support. It's not quite ready for prime time - it has a habit of forgetting the server information. When I take the time to set it up it streams DVD quality over wireless fine, will need to go wired to stream HD; unfortunately my server and blu-ray player are on different circuits so homeplug doesn't work. The UI is basically a folder browser, pretty low tech and not great for large collections. Hoping that future firmware releases will at least fix the server information retention if not provide a better UI. I do like the approach of supporting streaming from a Blu-Ray player and would hazard a guess that this will be the way the market goes over the next few years, until the market goes streaming entirely and we stop buying and renting discs. Re: [slim] New Logitech MM STREAM Squeezebox Touch spotted !!
This probably will look nice sitting on a table or counter somewhere, but it will only be as good as the back end and infrastructure supporting it. Hopefully for as much as what is going into the user interface of these devices, one would hope the same goes into the other pieces. I believe the new device will have the ability to attract some new customers, but the bigger bang for the buck for me would be to introduce something that would allow users to more easily setup and configure their system. On top of that, it would go along way if a device could be provided that would allow the customer to implement the system without having to source their own server for Squeeze Center. Some little device that runs Squeeze Center and allows you to expand storage when needed. In other words more turn key. What about a server with it's own Wifi router and software to allow easy configuring of squeeze devices with it. Again, aimed at the less technical customer providing more of a turn key solution. For others, they might go the build it themselves approach. Why not offer options like mains / power network adapters branded as Logitec bundeled as part of the package. Beter yet, could also have these part of the product just plug in and away you go. The only issue you have then is the controller but at least that can definatly minimze potential issues. -- froth froth's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11878 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64706 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

How about different international power standards? need for isolation of data signal from mains? While powerline Ethernet works great when it works, it doesn't work in many cases, sometimes even in the same house. In the US, most houses are wired as two separate 120v systems off of a common 240v pair. Sometimes signals can flow easily, sometimes not. Like I said, I like my Controller and use it every day. But my Controller doesn't ring when somebody calls my cell phone which is basically with me at all times. Guess iPeng is more of a convenience in the end. From an A/V TH point of gadget view, I really liked having just one remote after I bought the Harmony 1000 (the better half really liked it also because with just one touch she could watch just like I did when we had all the remotes, before the 1000 she would just turn the TV on, now she does full HD with surround sound). Then I bought the Duet and liked using the Controller so much that we were back to two remotes. Like using iPeng since the iPhone is also always close by. So the 1000/SBC would be my perfect solution in the A/V remote/gadget area (bigger display then Controller or iPeng also). So now, how and who do we file the request for enhancement with, Harmony or SMBU?
