Re: [slim] Russound Keypad Interface - Interest Level?

2009-08-31 Thread autefrum

I'm interested. I was going to do something like this myself.

I'm a developer, but have not worked with LUA (nor have I even heard of
it).

I have a CAM6.6 and 4 UNO-S2 keypads. I also have a PC running
homeseer which connects physically via the RS232 interface, and I bought
a plug in from HomeSeer to control the Russound. There is not a lot of
control going on between home seer and the russound Amp - the only
functionality I have implemented is turning off all zones when the home
alarm comes on. I use a fifth Russound zone as a 'home Security'
channel - it says Front door open in the middle of the night to wake
us up if someone is breaking into the house! It also plays door bell
sounds when the front door bell rings. This 5th zone does not have a
controller, so I also use the HomeSeer - Russound connection to make
sure this zone is always on and switched to the correct channel - there
is a macto that runs daily to switch that zone to the Home Seer sound
card from the Homeseer PC (the home seer makes noises and talks).

I could sacrifice the RS232 - Rusound connection. I was thinking of
functionality like:

If you switched to the Squeeze box zone using the SqueezeBox using a
UNO-S2 keypad, then the up and down buttons could scroll through the
'Favorite' items on the Russound. The play button could start the
selected favorite. Left and right buttons could skip forward and back in
the selected playlist.

I think it would be rediculous to try and port the entire controller
functionality to the UNO-S2 keypad - you don't have enough ability to
scroll to allow you to scroll through hundreds of artists or albums.

I was thinking of developing this as a homeseer plug in. That would
allow me to maintain my existing Homeseer-Russound connection. That
assumes HomeSeer allows multiple devices to connect to the serial port
connected to the Russound.

When you say you are seeing what interest there is out there, are you
interested in working on this with others like me on this? I have a
fairly extensive range of servers and gear to test this on. I run Mac
Mini, Linux (CentOS) and Windows XP in the house. The Home Seer machine
that is physically next to the Russound amp is a Windows XP machine.
This will probably have to be the machine that connects to the Russound.

Re: [slim] How to use squeezeplay or softsqueeze

2009-08-31 Thread bpa

Softsqueeze has been removed from 7.4. There is 3.9 beta version which
is available as an extension Downloader plugin. This will become an
approved plug in the repository. The plugin needs to be installed on
the SC's PC see http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62060.
Do not use the zip file as changes in SC naming and libraries have
broken that zip. The plugin from my repository should still work.

Softsqueeze when accessed from SC Web page will be downloaded and run
in the PC accessing the SC's web page. This PC can be different to the
SC hosting PC.

There are still a few bugs with 3.9 associated with 7.3/7.4 (e.g. sync
issues with non MP3 streams) I was hoping to fix before 7.4 was released
but it may have to be released as is.

2009-08-31 Thread Osamede

I've been looking at buying an N router for almost a year now and
could not conclude that any of them were finished products or worth the
time over a godo G router.

Real N is supposed to be 3-radio devices with 3 antennas. Try finding
those on the market. Basically you cant.

This does need to wait until the N standard is complete - and until
manufactuers actually make real N routers and access points. I applaud
Logitech for refusing to throw a half-finished product in this thing.

Anyone who wants N and G for now should just add a extra access point
if they really want to waste their money.

802.11g devices works better with a MIMO AP\Router.

Not for speed but for range and signal strength.

If you have dropouts it's probably because of weak signal strength or
interference, not bandwidth.

I replaced my 802.11g router with a N router with 3 antennas and that
made a huge difference

Re: [slim] Love My Squeezebox! What's The Equivalent For Video?

2009-08-31 Thread Archer_11

Second the call on PS3 with PS3 Media Server. If you've got a decent
computer you can get anything you want up on the big screen - anything
your PC supports inc. IPTV - for $300. Pretty reliable solution too, at
least for me.

There are a million options and a lot of them are great. But the part I
was worred about is that there is so much focus on this space now - and
the rewards so huge for the company that nails it - that I reckon in
four or five years there could be only 2 or 3 players that are head and
shoulders above everyone else with options we haven't even heard about.
So i think cost is important when buying something now.

The other key factor is reliability - I love tweaking stuff but I've
decided that one thing I never, ever want to have to optimise or fix is
a media unit that goes funny when sitting down to watch a movie.

Re: [slim] BBC Flash Radio

2009-08-31 Thread bpa

This is a flash stream on a random BBC web page

The plugin will play any BBC Flash/AAC stream (i.e. rtmp://) but it is
hard work to get the rtmp URL. Currently the streams are found from an
XML list produced by the BBC supposedly of all iPlayer programs (i.e.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/availability/radioscotland.xml ) .
According to Sportsound web page - the programs are listed on iPlayer.

Since they are UK specific program I cannot verify this or not nor can
I get more details on the programs.

If the stream is a live streams then if you can locate a Mediaselector
URL for your stream such as Radio 1's
http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/4/mtis/stream/bbc_radio_one - then
this URL can be played by BBCiPlayer by adding it to BBciPlayer
menu.opml.

Hey MC. From the spec sheet it says it has digital optical (Toslink)
which supports Stereo, 5.1 Dolby, and DTS. And of course it has HDMI
which is going to cover a bunch more formats. So basically no analog 5.1
as it only has stereo RCAs.

From the Spec Sheet: The HDMI has been configured to the 1.3a spec,
allowing full support of HD Audio pass-through for DTS HD-HR, DTS HD-MA,
Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby TrueHD. The ports on the device have also
been configured, with a USB port placed at the rear panel, next to the

[slim] Shut down does not work

I thought that when the Squeezebox is switched off via remote control

interface goes never inactive.
That’s a problem because of my FreeNAS Server now runs all the time.
There is a script running which checks active clients on the LAN…
There are also three Windows Clients in the network, that’s why it is
not possible to send a shut-down-command (magic-packet) from the SB to
FreeNAS.

Any ideas how the SB LAN interface goes inactive at switching-off?
Does anyone know how I can resolve this?

Re: [slim] Net::UDAP - SqueezeBox Receiver configuration tool

2009-08-31 Thread strocky

Many thanks to Robin Peter

Currently the proud owner of a Duet installed configured via a Nokia
770 Internet tablet (and a SB Boom)

Although the install instructions look daunting, with a bit of
patience, you can easily set up the Duet Receiver without the need for a
£130 controller)

1) Forget downloading PERL the script - Use peter's link -:

http://slim2lirc.myown.mailcan.com/udap_shell_1_0_0.exe

2) Read the pre-requisites

http://projects.robinbowes.com/Net-UDAP/trac/wiki/GettingStarted

3) Run the program d/l in Step 1

4) Type list (in command box)

5) Type configure 1

6) Type list

7) Type the command to configure the duet to suit your router setup

example set interface=0 wireless_mode=0 wireless_region_id=14
wireless_SSID=MySSID wireless_wep_on=1 wireless_keylen=0
wireless_wep_key_0=1a2b3c4d5e lan_ip_mode=1
squeezecenter_address=192.168.1.150

Interface=0 is Wireless, 1 = Wired
Wireless Region=14 (Europe) (USA=1)
SSID= The name of your wireless network
Wireless Wep on = 1 (means your using a password on your wireless
network)
Wireless_wep_key = You wireless network password in ASII (Letters)
set interface=0 wireless_mode=0 wireless_region_id=14
wireless_SSID=MySSID wireless_wep_on=1 wireless_keylen=0
wireless_wep_key_0=1a2b3c4d5e lan_ip_mode=1
squeezecenter_address=192.168.1.150 or whatever IP address you want for
the squeezecentre to display on your PC/Iphone/PDA

Couple of notes -:

If you wireless password is displayed as hex, use this link to convert
http://www.dolcevie.com/js/converter.html

If your using WPA-PSK(TKIP) security use WPA 1 example

eg set wireless_SSID=MySSID wireless_mode=0 wireless_region_id=14
wireless_wpa_on=1 wireless_wpa_mode=1 wireless_wpa_psk=Top Secret!

Make sure your using the same DHCP range i.e. 192.168.0.??? or
192.168.1.???

Re: [slim] Multi-Player Starting Points

2009-08-31 Thread aubuti

My first suggestion is to try it using hardware players only (no
SoftSqueeze or SqueezePlay or squeezeslave). My second suggestion is to
be sure you are using SqueezeCenter 7.3.3 or 7.3.4. Big improvements
were made to the sync code in 7.3, so that now sync'ing of hardware
players should be very robust.

If your hardware players won't sync with each other, then you might
have issues of an underpowered server. You don't mention your server
specs, how many players you are trying to sync, or even what codec you
are using. All of these have a bearing on sync performance as well.

If your hardware players sync fine, then the problem is only with
SoftSqueeze. The bad news is that sync with software players is not
assured because of latencies with sound cards, drivers, OS, and other
things that SC cannot control. Sometimes sync with software players can
be improved by fiddling with the sync settings in SC, but more often
you'll be stuck with the kind of almost-sync that you have now. The
only sure solution is to use hardware players.

Re: [slim] Love My Squeezebox! What's The Equivalent For Video?

2009-08-31 Thread JeffHart

I'm using a Samsung BD-P4600 Blu-Ray player that has built in DivX
support. It's not quite ready for prime time - it has a habit of
forgetting the server information. When I take the time to set it up
it streams DVD quality over wireless fine, will need to go wired to
stream HD; unfortunately my server and blu-ray player are on different
circuits so homeplug doesn't work.

The UI is basically a folder browser, pretty low tech and not great for
large collections. Hoping that future firmware releases will at least
fix the server information retention if not provide a better UI.

I do like the approach of supporting streaming from a Blu-Ray player
and would hazard a guess that this will be the way the market goes over
the next few years, until the market goes streaming entirely and we stop
buying and renting discs.

Cheers,
Jeff

I'd pay for a dedicated solution, especially if the new touch remote

less responsive than the Duet. However, I have absolutely no use for the

Re: [slim] New Logitech MM STREAM Squeezebox Touch spotted !!

2009-08-31 Thread froth

This probably will look nice sitting on a table or counter somewhere,
but it will only be as good as the back end and infrastructure
supporting it.

Hopefully for as much as what is going into the user interface of these
devices, one would hope the same goes into the other pieces.

I believe the new device will have the ability to attract some new
customers, but the bigger bang for the buck for me would be to introduce
something that would allow users to more easily setup and configure
their system. On top of that, it would go along way if a device could
be provided that would allow the customer to implement the system
without having to source their own server for Squeeze Center. Some
little device that runs Squeeze Center and allows you to expand storage
when needed. In other words more turn key. What about a server with
it's own Wifi router and software to allow easy configuring of squeeze
devices with it. Again, aimed at the less technical customer providing
more of a turn key solution. For others, they might go the build it
themselves approach.

Why not offer options like mains / power network adapters branded as
Logitec bundeled as part of the package. Beter yet, could also have
these part of the product just plug in and away you go. The only
issue you have then is the controller but at least that can definatly
minimze potential issues.

Only? How about different international power standards? need for
isolation of data signal from mains?

While powerline Ethernet works great when it works, it doesn't work in
many cases, sometimes even in the same house. In the US, most houses are
wired as two separate 120v systems off of a common 240v pair. Sometimes
signals can flow easily, sometimes not. Seems like a huge potential for
confusion among mass market, non-tech-saavy, consumers

You see official the 0.95 at the webpage. For some hours by mistake the
0.98 was available at the webpage and some users have it.
Locuth does have reasons to take it away again. Beta testing means to

here it helps to improve. I do for example each version i get, completly
flash my mobile. And beta testers are in advantage early to make
suggestions.
The other side of the Coin is that you can not in all things expect
stability or side effects to use the mobile. It happen to me in testing
the cache features. :-) But no point than to concern. Others that do
donations for example maybee are prefered to get early new versions. Or
versions that are special done for their needs. But i do not know how
Sebastian do handle this. In other projects i know that donators get the
new version 1-3 month in front of others. I think such is somehow fair.
Maybee Next official version is 0.99 or 1.0
I thought in the morning that 0.98 is available but after your posting
now i saw this version is not available now official.

Like I said, I like my Controller and use it every day. But my
Controller doesn't ring when somebody calls my cell phone which is
basically with me at all times. Guess iPeng is more of a convenience in
the end.

From an A/V TH point of gadget view, I really liked having just one
remote after I bought the Harmony 1000 (the better half really liked it
also because with just one touch she could watch just like I did when we
had all the remotes, before the 1000 she would just turn the TV on, now
she does full HD with surround sound). Then I bought the Duet and liked
using the Controller so much that we were back to two remotes. Like
using iPeng since the iPhone is also always close by. So the 1000/SBC
would be my perfect solution in the A/V remote/gadget area (bigger
display then Controller or iPeng also).

So now, how and who do we file the request for enhancement with,
Harmony or SMBU? As I have said since the SBC came out, I am with you
that I would buy a SBC1000 in a heartbeat!

Using an ir-remote coupled with visual feedback from the color display
could be nice provided one is near enough to see it. Hopefully it has
display modes with really large text.
As this is a powered device it would not suffer the controllers
irritating sleep modes, waiting 30 seconds to press pause IS an design
error just short of making the product not fit for purpose.
And when wired you can have this without the wifi hassle, this could be

I have a SB3. I thought of buying a Controller, but the standard RF
remote is faster, more efficient, thanks to lazysearch. I haven't seen
one in real life, but the Harmony 1000 looks huge... Plus, its too
expensive. The sweetspot would be something the size of an iPhone.

Err, you mean like an iPod touch? :-) just kidding...

BTW, I don't even have one myself. IR all the way for me. Batteries
last months instead of a fraction of a day.

Re: [slim] Love My Squeezebox! What's The Equivalent For Video?

This thread is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. I just got a V3 and now
really want the same type of control for video. I'm looking at the
Popcorn Hour but would love to have the ability to record. Is there any
type of work around for that?

Popcorn Hour with record function would have been my exact purchase if
it was available. Considering the great reviews it gets there's
definitely an opportunity for them here imo.
