[slim] Ghost in the machine
When I press the Pause button on my Squeezebox, sometimes it will un-pause itself eventually. Sometimes if I power it off it will start playing again by itself. I'm running the server on an old G4 Powerbook. This is pretty irritating because it means that when I for example leave the house I have to power off not only the SB but also the stereo. So I'm pressing two buttons instead of one, which really stresses me out because it runs counter to my compulsive minimalism. Is my Squeezebox haunted? Where can I find an exorcist specializing in Squeezeboxen? -- el_chupacabra el_chupacabra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37652 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77632 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Ghost in the machine
I had this today, first time I have ever seen it. It was on my Boom. The screensaver remained paused (the progress bar didn't change) but the music started playing. I am running 7.5.1-r30663. After a while (and stabbing pause and play buttons) the server restarted. I upgraded as I had a bug on 7.5.0 final which mean when I paused a track the server would reboot. It seems it could be a variation on that bug. Re: [slim] Announce: Album Catalog Creator v3
I think I solved the issue with version 3.3 as mentioned above. After trying to query de database with another client (HeidiSQL) and putting in the query string as produced by v3.3 from the log-file I got the following errormessage:'SQL Error (3): Error writing file (Errcode: 28)'. With Google I found out that it had something to do with the temporary storage directory on the server. In my case (Synology DS107+) this was /tmp, mapped to some RAM-disk which was 64MB in size. I moved this space to some place on the harddisk by adding a line in 'my.tt' and 'my.cnf' pointing tmpdir to /opt/tmp/mysql. This directory was given all access rights by chmod 777. After a reboot of the server I first tried the HeidiSQL client which produced no error anymore. After that I tried ACC v3.3 et voila I got myself a nice catalog! Probably it's enough to change only the 'my.tt' file. I will test this somewhere this week and post the result. [slim] Selecting Music by Artist
Hi, I bought a Boom at Christmas (great decision) and encoded all my music collection into FLAC format. My problem is that I usually select by artist but the small screen on the Boom makes this a bit awkward. For example, if I select The Eagles, I might find that the first two albums listed are The Best Of The Eagles and The Best Of The Greatest Love Songs. I find myself selecting the latter by mistake (a compilation album that only has one Eagles track). Is there any way to ensure that various artists albums don't appear when I am viewing a list by artist. Alternatively, is there a creative way to send these albums to the bottom of the listing - I tried placing a * before the album name (on mp3tag) but that didn't work -- AWOL AWOL's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37695 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77668 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Network Architecture Question
I have ATT U-Verse service. Their gateway acts as an 100 Mbps ethernet and wireless-G router, I don't particularly care for this so I have the disabled the wireless on the gateway and have my Netgear 3500L plugged into it. Works great, mostly. I'm still using the U-Verse gateway as a wired router -- is convenient for plugging in the BluRay player. It'd also be convenient for wiring a Squeezebox, but herein lies the problem. The U-Verse assigns address on 192.168.1.xxx while my Netgear router assigns them on 192.168.2.xxx. Should these two be able to talk to each other? My VortexBox is on 192.168.2.150 (hard wired to the Netgear ethernet) and my Boom can't connect to it from a 192.168.1.xxx address. Re: [slim] How to download squeezebox desktop?
lreinstein;538016 Wrote: I have an SB3 and would like to run the Squeezebox Desktop which I understand replaces the Jive Squeezeplay etc. I do not see where/how to download this. Please Please advise. I have had my SB3 for several years but have recently only been using it on the MySqueezebox.com for Pandora. I have not been using it through the squeezeserver software on my MacBook. Instead I have been using iTunes with Airport Express to play my music. But, I would like to try using the SB3 again for this. I did download the Squeezeserver 7.5 and it is running but I would like the desktop interface thanks Larry Squeezeplay is a program that lets you play music through your computer's speakers. If you want the desktop control of the server, open a web-browser and go to either: http://localhost:9000 or http://127.0.0.1:9000 Or, since you are looking at this in a web-browser, click the above. iPeng can do this. Re: [slim] Network Architecture Question
ajkidle;538230 Wrote: I have ATT U-Verse service. Am I doing something wrong and this should work, or am I attempting to violate the rules of network addressing? You can change the netgear to get along with the modem. Go to http://192.168.2.1 and change the router's address so it's on the 192.168.1.xxx network (I put most of mine starting at 192.168.1.110.) If you can't get a configuration screen at that address, type back. Don't be confused by the difference between the internet connection and the router's IP assignment: your connections will be going out on u-verse and the wires plugged-into the netgear will NOT be plugged-into the different internet port. Be sure to go to the new address and bookmark it so you won't forget where you put the router NOTE ALSO you should turn-off DHCP in the netgear. This will mean that all addresses would be assigned by u-verse and the u-verse and netgear won't be fighting to assign addresses. p -- pski real stereo doesn't wake neighbors (it enrages them) . pski's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15574 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77669 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Ghost in the machine
Mine had a habit of doing this too: I'd pause the 'box to watch the, er, box (telly), and notice sometime later that the Squeeze had started playing again all by itself. (I'd switched amp inputs to the telly so couldn't hear the Squeeze, but it was annoying as it meant I'd lost my place.) It wasn't the TV remote triggering it. It seemed to happen most when I had players sync'd. My eventual workaround was to always press and hold Pause so that the player(s) entered the Stopped state; they don't seem to come back out of that by themselves (though this also means I've lost my place in the current track). I haven't seen it happen for ages, but now I'm in the habit of stopping rather than pausing when I know I'll be listening to other things for a while. -- Brian -- Brian Ritchie Brian Ritchie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2319 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77632 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
