[slim] Ghost in the machine

2010-04-20 Thread el_chupacabra

When I press the Pause button on my Squeezebox, sometimes it will
un-pause itself eventually. Sometimes if I power it off it will start
playing again by itself. I'm running the server on an old G4 Powerbook.

This is pretty irritating because it means that when I for example
leave the house I have to power off not only the SB but also the
stereo. So I'm pressing two buttons instead of one, which really
stresses me out because it runs counter to my compulsive minimalism.

Is my Squeezebox haunted? Where can I find an exorcist specializing in
Squeezeboxen?

Why don't you just turn off only the stereo instead? :-)

What sort of SB do you have?

Re: [slim] Ghost in the machine

2010-04-20 Thread Chunkywizard

I had this today, first time I have ever seen it. It was on my Boom. The
screensaver remained paused (the progress bar didn't change) but the
music started playing. I am running 7.5.1-r30663. After a while (and
stabbing pause and play buttons) the server restarted.

I upgraded as I had a bug on 7.5.0 final which mean when I paused a
track the server would reboot. It seems it could be a variation on that
bug.

Yes, sounds like you are close. You do have the IP address as
192.168.xx.yy in place of my-ip, right? And it is the IP of the
computer running SBS+Spotify+DSBridge (I think they all have to be on
the same computer), right? You can get the link into the SBS favorites,
ok? That should do it, selecting that link in SBS should connect SBS to
DSBridge/Spotify. However, I had loads of problems with SBS being very
obnoxious about initializing the connection. Once it connected, it
typically worked, but getting there... Look into the SBS log, see if
you have connection problem entries there, maybe that can shed some
light.

Now I only use DSBridge/Spotify through MySB.com, it works much *much*
better. Right out of the box, always (almost).

[slim] How to download squeezebox desktop?

2010-04-20 Thread lreinstein

I have an SB3 and would like to run the Squeezebox Desktop which I
understand replaces the Jive Squeezeplay etc.

I do not see where/how to download this. Please Please advise.

I have had my SB3 for several years but have recently only been using
it on the MySqueezebox.com for Pandora. I have not been using it
through the squeezeserver software on my MacBook. Instead I have been
using iTunes with Airport Express to play my music. But, I would like
to try using the SB3 again for this.

I did download the Squeezeserver 7.5 and it is running but I would like
the desktop interface

thanks

[slim] Squeezeslave just quits - any thought?

2010-04-20 Thread meep

I use squeezeslave to provide players in my whole house system. Have had
no problems, rock solid.

I've recently set up Win XP as a virtual system on VMware server and
set up a single instance of squeezeslave.

Now when I launch it from cmd, it opens, registers in SqueezeBox Server
but shuts down silently after a minute or so. (back to C:\ prompt).

If I play something through it, it stays up but once playback ceases,
it will quit after a minute as well.

I've tried specifying a logfile and while the file is created, nothing
is written.

Any ideas? Had no problems like this on a real pc but don't see why
virtualized would be any different in this regard?

1. Option to enable drop shadows for album covers (looks really good)
2. Advanced option to export to CSV file (this one is for you fphredd)
3. Some additional header background colors (purple, red, pink, yellow,

Please send me a mail if you want to test this for me and I'll send you
a download link back when it is finished for testing.

Re: [slim] Announce: Album Catalog Creator v3

2010-04-20 Thread arubaluba

I think I solved the issue with version 3.3 as mentioned above. After
trying to query de database with another client (HeidiSQL) and putting
in the query string as produced by v3.3 from the log-file I got the
following errormessage:'SQL Error (3): Error writing file (Errcode:
28)'. With Google I found out that it had something to do with the
temporary storage directory on the server. In my case (Synology DS107+)
this was /tmp, mapped to some RAM-disk which was 64MB in size. I moved
this space to some place on the harddisk by adding a line in 'my.tt'
and 'my.cnf' pointing tmpdir to /opt/tmp/mysql. This directory was
given all access rights by chmod 777. After a reboot of the server I
first tried the HeidiSQL client which produced no error anymore. After
that I tried ACC v3.3 et voila I got myself a nice catalog!

Probably it's enough to change only the 'my.tt' file. I will test this
somewhere this week and post the result.

Regards, Rene

[slim] Selecting Music by Artist

2010-04-20 Thread AWOL

Hi, I bought a Boom at Christmas (great decision) and encoded all my
music collection into FLAC format. My problem is that I usually select
by artist but the small screen on the Boom makes this a bit awkward.
For example, if I select The Eagles, I might find that the first two
albums listed are The Best Of The Eagles and The Best Of The Greatest
Love Songs. I find myself selecting the latter by mistake (a
compilation album that only has one Eagles track).
Is there any way to ensure that various artists albums don't appear
when I am viewing a list by artist. Alternatively, is there a creative
way to send these albums to the bottom of the listing - I tried placing
a * before the album name (on mp3tag) but that didn't work

Server Settings My Music Compilations uncheck List compilation
albums under each artist

Not sure if changing this setting requires a library rescan.

I know you can change them on mysqueezebox.com, but they have to be
 done individually.

If you sync them, and then schedule an alarm on the 'master', they will
all wake up and play in sync.

(Having done this accidentally where the bedroom/livingroom players
were synced and both alarmed in the morning... I hit 'off' on the
bedroom player and the living room kept playing)

[slim] Network Architecture Question

2010-04-20 Thread ajkidle

I have ATT U-Verse service. Their gateway acts as an 100 Mbps ethernet
and wireless-G router, I don't particularly care for this so I have the
disabled the wireless on the gateway and have my Netgear 3500L plugged
into it. Works great, mostly.

I'm still using the U-Verse gateway as a wired router -- is convenient
for plugging in the BluRay player. It'd also be convenient for wiring
a Squeezebox, but herein lies the problem. The U-Verse assigns address
on 192.168.1.xxx while my Netgear router assigns them on 192.168.2.xxx.
Should these two be able to talk to each other? My VortexBox is on
192.168.2.150 (hard wired to the Netgear ethernet) and my Boom can't
connect to it from a 192.168.1.xxx address.

Am I doing something wrong and this should work, or am I attempting to
violate the rules of network addressing?

Squeezeplay is a program that lets you play music through your
computer's speakers.

If you want the desktop control of the server, open a web-browser and
go to either:

http://localhost:9000

or

http://127.0.0.1:9000

Or, since you are looking at this in a web-browser, click the above.

You can change the netgear to get along with the modem. Go to

http://192.168.2.1 and change the router's address so it's on the
192.168.1.xxx network (I put most of mine starting at 192.168.1.110.)

If you can't get a configuration screen at that address, type back.

Don't be confused by the difference between the internet connection
and the router's IP assignment: your connections will be going out on
u-verse and the wires plugged-into the netgear will NOT be plugged-into
the different internet port.

Be sure to go to the new address and bookmark it so you won't forget
where you put the router

NOTE ALSO you should turn-off DHCP in the netgear. This will mean that
all addresses would be assigned by u-verse and the u-verse and netgear
won't be fighting to assign addresses.

Re: [slim] Ghost in the machine

2010-04-20 Thread Brian Ritchie

Mine had a habit of doing this too: I'd pause the 'box to watch the, er,
box (telly), and notice sometime later that the Squeeze had started
playing again all by itself. (I'd switched amp inputs to the telly so
couldn't hear the Squeeze, but it was annoying as it meant I'd lost my
place.)

It wasn't the TV remote triggering it. It seemed to happen most when I
had players sync'd.

My eventual workaround was to always press and hold Pause so that the
player(s) entered the Stopped state; they don't seem to come back out
of that by themselves (though this also means I've lost my place in the
current track).

I haven't seen it happen for ages, but now I'm in the habit of stopping
rather than pausing when I know I'll be listening to other things for a
while.

OK, It's squeezeplay as mentioned by aubuti.

You can also use the old softsqueeze which is available as a plugin.
