In some cases, I installed an app on the phone just to back it up and send it over to the Nook, and then deleted the phone app. This worked beautifully - thanks so much for the tip. What I did was I used Astro on my Xoom to backup my apps into a directory I knew I could access from my PC when the Xoom was connected to it. I then connected the Kindle Fire and copied the files into the download directory. After that, I used the Quickoffice app on the Kindle (which was preinstalled) to run the files, which caused them to install. Since one of the apps I copied over was dropbox, I won't have to go through this gyration again - I can just copy stuff to download using Astro and the upload via dropbox. Re: [slim] Absolute Radio UK Plug In
It seems that a sign is required to pick up the 60's and 70s streams. They're not listed on http://www.absoluteradio.co.uk/listen/on-other-devices.html. Podcasts could be put into a plugin along with a selection of live streams. The podcasts could do with some organizing. I've been thinking about 'organizing podcasts' anyway, to try and get some order into the apparently randomly organized BBC podcast listings. Possibly hook into whatever the provide to iTunes. A moderately straightforward mash up of the existing classicfm plugin might then provide a framework to accomodate the result into a 'single app' format. Although somewhat clunky as presently put together, it would not require significant reworking. Ideally the existing app would provide access to all of this. I will e-mail Absolute Radio to see if there is any pre-existing podcast opml file that might be used, and to see how access might be obtained to the 60's and 70's streams. But perhaps someone already knows, or is already pursuing ? -- mrw mrw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38299 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91421 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Kindle Fire vs. Nook Tablet as Controller
Squeezecommander (the paid squeezebox controller app) is very capable and is just as good as iPeng. I had used iPeng on my iPod Touch for about a year before I got my Xoom. There are actually some aspects of SqueezeCommander that I perfer. On my Kindle Fire, I was able to install Squeezecommander and I find it to run very very well. The size of the Fire is perfect IMHO as a SB controller. It's not too tiny and not too big like a 10 tablet. No Android Marketplace isn't an issue here since you can pay and install from slideme.org. (I had bought it from Andriod MP and didn't want to pay twice - it's the only reason I had an issue). I also loaded squeezeplayer - runs great and maintains the buffer playing FLAC. So it could make a nice portable player too :-). -- maggior Rich - Setup: 2 SB3s, 4 Booms, 1 Duet, 1 Receiver, 1 Touch, iPeng on iPod Touch, SqueezeCommander on Xoom. Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !
On the bottom on the SqueezePad is a quick access button internet radio. Is there a way to change the function and call a different internet radio service? I would like it to call TuneIn radio reasons for it, it doesn't work for me. I found out this button connects to RadioTime of SB by default and most of those radio streams don't work. After more than a year I discovered something: By holding/ calling the context menu, select RadioTime options/choose stream/ ...MP3 - it works!! This method of chosing a radio station, and then chosing the proper stream (mp3 instead of WMA) isn't practical but it did brought me closer to the source of the problem. I tried and disable WMA on SBS but didn't change the behavior of the internet radio. I found out that using a different internet radio service like TuneIn, does work because it sends an MP3 stream by default. And strangely enough - TuneIn == RadioTime ?!? ... makes sence? [slim] Dynamic Playlist onto iPod/iPhone via spotify
Hi All In SB I heavily use Erlands dynamic playlists with trackstat for 'top rated' tracks, I wanted to get the top rated playlist onto my mobile devices, this is the method I used on my linux server (vortexbox) 1. The toprated.m3u playlist with all rated songs is created when I rescan (auto scheduled), I then do a quick clean up on that with a grep command for step 2 2. use rsync to transfer the tracks in the playlist from 'flac' folder to 'mp3' folder, approx 15% of my library 3. Run flac2mp3 mirror to convert to mp3 4. Point spotify to 'mp3' folder as local music, scans for new music each time I open it 5. Use spotify to tranfer to ipod/iphone/HTC desire etc. Works pretty well, I'll be automating 1-3 and will use spotify to periodically update mobile devices, may well look to add in a 'new music' transfer as well however a lot of those albums are on spotify already. Couple of limitations - I believe that step 2. won't delete tracks in the destination folder if say I unrate a song, not a massive issue - Spotify isn't as good as say iTunes for handling 'local' music and creating dynamic playlists, e.g. on SB I drill down into top rated 80s, 90s, indie, pop etc. etc. - however there is no reason why you couldn't use itunes for steps 4/5 for apple devices as I believe it auto monitors a folder (not used itunes for a while) Quite interested to hear whether others have tried anything like this? (there might be an easier way) Also whether alternative software is better for handling the transfer to mobile devices? Re: [slim] Kindle Fire vs. Nook Tablet as Controller
I agree with apesbrain that you are more likely to have a tablet sitting in front of you rather than sittin in a dock or stand by your entertainment system. Artwork will certainly be shown larger, but the text would not be readable at a significant distance. The controller apps aren't set up for a distance viewing application. -- maggior Rich - Setup: 2 SB3s, 4 Booms, 1 Duet, 1 Receiver, 1 Touch, iPeng on iPod Touch, SqueezeCommander on Xoom. While I'm moving the slider I'd just want to see the position 0-100 I'm at. In the morning when I start music in the kids room, I want to set the volume to 25 - this is the volume I need for most of the audiobooks. In the evening when its about to go to bed, I want to set the volume to 19. With a popup showing the absolute volume values I could easily set the target volume levels. -- bluegaspode Did you know: *'SqueezePlayer' (www.squeezeplayer.com)* will stream all your music to your Android device. Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android
I recently bought and downloaded SqueezeCommander from the Android Market and am having an issue with it. I e-mailed Christian at the address he has listed for the app in the Market, but have not heard back yet. I'm posting that message here in hopes that he, or someone else, can offer suggestions as to what may be wrong. I'm using the latest version of SqueezeCommander, which I installed on my DroidX via Android Market. I've been using SC for a couple of days and it's a really great app. But starting at some point today, I must've changed something because I'm experiencing behavior that doesn't seem right. From the Server Screen, or from the Now Playing screen I tap on the Main Menu button in the upper right. The library browser appears. If I select Artists (or Albums or Genres or Years) and select All Albums, everything shows and I can select what I want to play. However, if after selecting Artists I tap on a specific artist in the list, nothing shows in the next screen (other than ALL SONGS and the artist's name at the top. I do not see album artwork (and I'm pretty sure I saw it when I first got the app) and tapping the Play button does nothing. The only way I can get something to play right now seems to be by doing a search for the album, artist, or track I want to hear. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that I'm doing something wrong, but I'd sure like to know what it is. [Three days later I sent the following update...] I thought I'd update with some new observations. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong because for about half an hour yesterday SC worked the way it should. Then later in the day it was doing what I described earlier. Same thing today. Right now it's working correctly. An hour ago it wasn't. I'd really appreciate your help in getting this resolved. Thanks. -- phred phred's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=52602 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69352 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Pioneer enters the arena
So, Looks more like a stereo component than the transporter. Not sure that's a good thing vs. touch. I'm nonplussed about the DLNA support - I can't really understand who would prefer dlna over a native squeezebox/LMS client. AirPlay, however... (and I've read the previous threads) I'd love to see a Touch with ability to send audio to arbitrary wireless sounds sources. I'd love for my radios to be able to send STEREO to nearby stereo wireless speakers. Also, while I wouldn't really care, a bet a lot of people would like to use airplay for iphone/ipod/ipad audio playback to squeezebox -- I suppose one *could* do this today in a roundabout with an airplay server on Linux and redirecting audio to LMS... -Ross -- rcampbel3 rcampbel3's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38284 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92799 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Kindle Fire vs. Nook Tablet as Controller
Apesbrain;681931 Wrote: Maybe, but I think it's more likely you'll use the Kindle Fire (or Nook Tablet) at arm's length. The idea is to leave your Squeezebox player as is and keep the Fire on the coffee table in front of your listening spot or on the sofa next to you. Instead of using the stock remote control, you'd use an app on the Fire to power on your player (and server if needed), select music, play/pause, adjust volume, make playlists, etc. All the while having a nice, big color display of the cover art and all the track information right at your fingertips. And, if you want to check email or read a book while listening, you can use it for that also... That is exactly the way I am using my Kindle Fire. -- TimT TimT's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22971 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92754 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

All I can say is that DLNA for Media management is a nightmare. I have yet to see an elegant implementation where DLNA servers and clients that work in harmony. -- tamanaco tamanaco's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4620 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92796 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
