Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezePlay for Mac OSX
Well don't I feel silly now! It turns out I just needed to restart Squeezeplay after configuring eqMac for the 'MacBook Pro Speakers'. No jiggery pokery with plist files needed at all. So eqMac is a keeper - it's only the free version, but it does exactly what I wanted it to. I've configured it to launch at login, so it's always there. And boy does it now sound good. Mightily impressed with this new laptop. chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96328 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezePlay for Mac OSX
Well eqMac evidently creates an output device called "MacBook Pro Speakers (eqMac)". So as a quick test I fired up Sqeezelite with: Code: Squeezelite -o "MacBook Pro Speakers (eqMac)" The equaliser works properly. So I feel confident that Squeezeplay can be configured the same way. Just need to work my way through the steps described in the first post. chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96328 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I didn't think to look for other output devices. Or to re-read the first post! I have no idea how the equalisers work - in both cases I just select 'MacBook Pro Speakers' as the output to which I wish to apply the shaping. chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96328 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

How to these EQs provide audio shaping? Squeezeplay uses the default core audio device. However if you change the device while SP is running you need to restart SP before the new device is used. The 1st post of this thread suggests how to change the default device SP uses. The instructions are dated and may not work with the MacOS 12.x. I use automator to start SP. The consumers you're talking about buy into high-end buds and hi-res streaming because they believe it's what they should do, but they wouldn't recognise good sound quality if it smacked them in the mouth. Indeed, they are now so used to hypercompressed trash that it's what they think good sound quality is. Even today's crop of young mastering engineers seem to have drunk the kool-aid. No it isn't a Tidal issue just the sad truth that the only versions available on any streaming service tend to be the latest ones. It is hard to tell if this version is a remix or a remaster but either way, changing the overall volume of a track halfway through seems a very odd decision to make. The only Genesis albums available seem to be the latest remixes and they get widely criticized as well. Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezePlay for Mac OSX
I've just installed Squeezeplay on a new M1 Mac - did the xattr fix and I'm up and running. With one of the QVGA skins it's a great compact little player and/or controller to leave in a corner of the desktop. My Mac is a 16" Macbook, and it has surprisingly good built-in speakers, so I'll likely use Squeezeplay as my desktop player while working. As with all my audio sources, I like to tune the sound to my preference, so I've found some software equalisers (eqMac, Airfoil) that can tune the output of the built-in 'MacBook Pro Speakers'. They work nicely with, say, the macOS Spotify app, but they don't have any effect on the output from Squeezeplay. I expect that's because Squeezeplay uses a different output method to other apps. Is there perhaps a way to route Squeezeplay's output so that these software equalisers will work? chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96328 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] DAC AK4493 and Picore Player
This page suggests using a HifiBerry Dac driver if using Moode or Volumio, so that option 'may' work on pCP. On the reviews section Audiophonics themselves suggest using pCP to overcome a fade-in issue between tracks. https://www.audiophonics.fr/en/products-reviews/dac-ak4493-module-for-raspberry-pi-i2s-32bit-384khz-dsd128-13907 It's a bit of a risk, and as the Hifiberry Dac is Ti based, using their driver may not make the most of the AK4493 chip.
