Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify

For future reference - to get this working on my SB3, I had to edit the
dsbridge.ini and change the bit rate to 192. I also set coverart to 0.

Re: [slim] FLAC issues

2009-05-13 Thread mortod

I'm having similar problem with tracks finishing early. See
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62770.

I use InguzDSP and so use flac.exe rather than native flac. mp3 files
are OK, and older tracks in my library seem OK. Have tried downgrading
my version of flac, though of course the problem could be in the version
of flac used to create the track.

Re: [slim] Tracks randomly not finishing

2009-05-13 Thread mortod

Turned on logging, and got the following:

Content-Type: audio/mpeg

[09-05-13 20:57:16.1353] Slim::Player::Source::readNextChunk (2509)

[09-05-13 20:57:16.1365] Slim::Player::Source::gotoNext (1355) Opening

The problem is very repeatable - the same track always skips in the
same place.

But I'm sure the flac file is OK, as I do not get this behaviour when
streaming from SC to Winamp (or when playing the file direct in winamp).

Re: [slim] Tracks randomly not finishing

Have fixed my problem. I had recently changed the user that 'owns' SC to
be a limited account. Changing SC to run from an account with full
privileges fixed the problem. Still seems odd though, particularly as
some albums played fine, and even the problem ones played (albeit with
truncating).

Re: [slim] Now Playing list empties itslelf

2008-11-03 Thread mortod

This is totally repeatable with the following steps:

1. Switch on SB3 (ie power jack in)
2. Play an album and check it is in the now playing list,
3. Play random songs (Music Library/Random Mix/Play random songs)
4. Wait 30s for the screen blank to switch to 'Now Playing' (just in
case the 'jump to now playing' is required to populate that list,
5. Press stop, and wait 5s to ensure no timing issues with the
subsequent power off,
6. Power off SB3 (pull jack plug)
7. WAIT 2 minutes
8. Power on (jack in) and wait to start-up
9. Check Now playing list - it will show the originally played album
rather than the random playlist.

Oddly, if I wait only 1 minute or less at step 7 then it appears to
work OK (as if the SB3 has some kind of short term memory save, or
capacitor to cope with short power glitches). That explains why I had
problems repeating the issue.

Also, if I play an album rather than random songs then behaviour is OK
(ie this is a problem with the random mix plugin).

Also note that this is nothing todo with my PC going into standby (with
WOL) as I had previously thought.

I'm surprised this has not been reported as a common problem as it does
seem very repeatable!

Re: [slim] SBC: Now Playing Wrong - Not Refreshing

2008-11-03 Thread mortod

I have the same problem - has been annoying me for well over a year now,
since I think I upgraded to 6.5.3, and now on 7.2

Definitely only with random mix plug. In my case I power the SB3 off
between listening sessions. I find that if powered off for 1 minute or
less then it behaves OK, but anything over 2 minutes it will not
remember the random mix list that should be displayed under 'now
playing'.

Started another thread before finding this one. Can you point me at the
bug report so I can add a vote/info?

[slim] Now Playing list empties itslelf

2008-10-31 Thread mortod

I've been annoyed by this since, I think, I upgraded to 6.5.3, and 7.2
hasn't fixed it either. I find that the Now Playing list is often
empty, or has not been updated with what I had been listening to. I
always power off my SB3 between listening sessions (ie my remote sends
a 'stop' and then powers off my amp which has a trigger output to
switch the SB power supply on/off) - ie the power to the SB3 is cut
off. Not sure if that is relevant. Also I tend to listen to randome
songs, which might (not) be relevant.

When I next turn the SB3 on I want to be able to pick up from where I
left off last time, but more often than not the 'Now playing' list has
not been updated, or is even empty. I've tried changing the screen
saver whilst playing to 'jump to now playing' (which I think is a new
option), but that doesn't help. It does seem to behave better if I
manually view 'now playing' before powering off.

I'm sure it used to work OK (ie pre 6.5.3).

Re: [slim] Now Playing list empties itslelf

2008-10-31 Thread mortod

It's definitely not the rescan suggestion - I rarely rescan.

For example I just powered off now (I had been listening to some random
tracks) , and powered on 5 minutes later, and now playing is again
showing an album I played some days ago. Actually in this case I had
rebooted the PC leaving the SB3 on. Testing again, the SB3 is beahving
OK so long as the PC stays up, even when the SB3 gets power cycled. I
think the issue is more related to the PC getting rebooted between
listening sessions. The PC also goes into standby after 15minutes of
idle (might have the same effect as a reboot). Does SC keep the now
playing list in memory, or is it written to disk at all?

'maintain playlist' is set to 'remeber playlist'

'power on resume' is set to 'pause at power off, remain pause at power
on'.

Re: [slim] Now Playing list empties itslelf

2008-10-31 Thread mortod

Finding it difficult to repeat. Did just get the symptons by rebooting
PC whilst playing, with that setting on 'pause'. When I changed it to
'stop' it oddly seems to corrupt the original now playing list (ie just
4 tracks from the album showing). In any case I have the feeling that
this happens more often than I reboot.

Think I need to keep an eye on it so I can describe a repeatable
sequence that gives the behaviour. You'd think I know after a year of
living with this. Will post back in due course.

[slim] Delay to information display for internet radio stations

2007-12-17 Thread mortod

I'm finding that internet radio stations take about 1.5 minutes before
the track playing detail is correctly updated to the SB3 screen -
somewhat frustrating when you want to know the currently playing
artist/track. Is this normal behaviour, any chance of a fix?

I'm using SS 6.5.4, and do use the Music Information plugin though I
don't think that relevant. I have so far seen the problem with Radio
Paradise, LastFM and Virgin Radio UK.

It might seem like a trivial question, but why is that some internet

don't? I'm specifically thinking about Virgin Radio UK (Slim picks -
Most Popular) - they must broadcast the information as there is 'now

to write an add-in to parse that webpage assuming that the information
is not included in the radio data stream?

[slim] Remote mapping for LastFM

2006-11-02 Thread mortod

I'm using a OneForAll remote which I program with JP1. This remote has
thumbs up and down buttons which would be ideal for LastFM love/ban
functions.

I've seen the thread at
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=86590
which explains how to modify the .map and .ir files, but I want to
assign the functions to particular buttons rather than a long key press
on the arrow buttons.

My problem is that the .ir file lists 8 digit hex codes for each
function, eg:

0   = 76899867
1   = 7689f00f
2   = 768908f7

But the JP1 software lists 2 digit hex codes like:

0 67
1 0F
2 F7

JP1 does not specify what the rest of the hex code is (eg768998). I'm
able to assign any 2 part hex code to any button, but I have no way to
assign the other 6 hex digits.

Any thoughts on how I should define the rest of the hex function code ?

[slim] Re: Remote mapping for LastFM

2006-11-02 Thread mortod

Got it working - it seems that the hex codes in the .ir file all start
with 7689. The last 4 hex digits always add up to FF, eg:

76899867 - 98+67=FF
7689f00f - f0+0f=FF
768908f7 - 08+f7=FF

So, with that in mind I set up 3 new entries in the .ir file:

skip= 7689c43b
thumbs_up   = 768924db
thumbs_down = 7689a45b

with 3b, db, 5b corresponding to the codes programmed into my universal
remote.

And in the custom.map file I added the entry:

# LastFM skp/love/ban
skip= modefunction_PLUGIN.LastFM::Plugin-lastfm_skip
thumbs_up   = modefunction_PLUGIN.LastFM::Plugin-lastfm_love
thumbs_down = modefunction_PLUGIN.LastFM::Plugin-lastfm_ban

And it works - I can now use those TiVo buttons for LastFM.

2006-10-26 Thread mortod

I have now upgraded to 6.5.1, but no joy.

I think you missed my point - I am talking about the SB not sending a
magic packet on POWER up (ie when you insert the DC jack, or turn the

then bring it out of standby.

Can we have a version that sends a WOL magic packet on power up ?

[slim] WOL on SB power up (not just coming out of standby)

2006-10-25 Thread mortod

I have WOL working properly on my SB3 and XP PC. But I am also using my
amp to send a 12v trigger to an external relay which switches on the
power to various accessories (including my SB - I'm using a Power One
PSU, and don't like it getting hot even when the SB is in standby).
This approach is also environmentally friendly as my SB, TV, etc are
not normally sat there consuming power when in standby.

Conequently my SB powers up from scratch every time I come to use it,
but it does not send a WOL magic packet on power up. I then have to use
the SB remote to explicitly turn it on and cause the magic packet to be
sent (you then see a 'waking up slimserver' message, which you don't
see when the unit is first powered up).

So my question is - is there any way to change the behaviour of the SB
on power up so that it sends a WOL magic packet on power up. My guess
is that this is nothing to do with the SlimServer version (I'm on
6.2.2) as it must be the firmware on the hardware that needs to be
modified. Could this be implemented in a future version of the firmware
?

[slim] Power-One Linear supply - how hot should they get ?

2006-05-21 Thread mortod

Just made up my Power One PSU and am surprised how hot it gets, even
with the SB in standby. I have perhaps shoe-horned it into too small a
box, but it is well ventilated, and I have ensure the heat sink buts up
against the steel case. Surprisingly it is the transformer that gets
really hot, rather than the regulator. Should I be concerned ? Is it
worth fitting a mains power off switch for when not in use ?

One word of advice - don't connect the -ve output to earth as I did.
All sorts of wierd behaviour.

This is a great plugin - I can't believe its such a recent innovation
though as I would have thought power management quite fundamental to

Just one observation though - I have my XP standby timer set to 15
minutes, and sure enough the PC normally goes into standby 15 minutes

WOL from the SB, it then goes into standby just 2 minutes after the SB
playing is stopped - not 15 minutes.

[slim] Help: SB won't connect to SlimServer

2006-04-14 Thread mortod

Everything worked fine yesterday, but when I came to switch on my SB
this morning it can no longer connect. When I brought the PC out of
standby a warning did pop up warning of a duplicate IP address. But
logging into my wireless router I can not see any duplicates, though I
do see two IP addresses for the same MAC address (both for the SB) -
not sure if that is normal ?

Winamp connect to SS fine on the same PC. Have tried releasing a
renewing the IP of the PC,rebooting everything, and also going through
the setup on the SB again (ie getting a new IP address).

Any thoughts ? Where can I look for diagnosis information ?

[slim] Re: Help: SB won't connect to SlimServer

2006-04-14 Thread mortod

Panic over - I re-installed 6.2.1 which seemed to fix it. Have now
re-installed 6.2.2 and still OK - hopefully a one off or perhaps a
6.2.2 problem (11/04 version).

Thanks for the advice - I had tried that, and also noticed that the SB
could connect to the SqueezeNetwork - hence my conclusion that it must
be a SS problem.

[slim] Re: Slimserver PC going into standby

2006-04-10 Thread mortod

Got it working - still does not appear in the list of plugins though.

Any way of making it compatible with the weather plugin (and I guess
the clock screensaver) ? My PC will now never go into standby with the
preventstandby plugin in place.

[slim] Re: Power Management

No - I tried both unplugging the power from the SB and also stopping the
SS process - this seems to be a generic PC problem, but I'm hoping that
someone here will have come across the same.

Can't open the ZIP - it comes back with 'The compressed (zipped)Folder
is invalid or corrupted'.

[slim] Re: Slimserver PC going into standby

2006-04-09 Thread mortod

OK, so have downloaded the nightly version, but rather than install I
was hoping to patch the plugin into my 6.2.2 version - how do I do that
? Tried putting the plugin in the tree, but I guess there is more to do
(something to do with the CPAN API?). As I am unable to download the
prevent standby ZIP - please advise.

[slim] Re: Power Management

2006-04-09 Thread mortod

Have now tracked down what was causing this - Norton AntiVirus includes
a 'NetDetect' scheduled job that runs every 5 minutes. Not sure what it
does, but I went into the scheduler (Control Panel/Scheduler, selecting
properties with a right click on the netdetect item), and ticked the
'Only start the task if the computer has been idle for at least (20)
minutes' box. I can now set my standby timer to 5 minutes (I'll
probably go for 15 mintues).

[slim] Power Management

2006-04-08 Thread mortod

Not sure whether this is a SB issue, but I have trouble getting my PC to
go into standby since I have connected a wireless SB.

The PC will only go into standby if I am logged out, or if the timeout
is 3 minutes or less. If I am logged in and set the timeout to, say, 15
minutes it will never go into standby - unless I do it manually. If I
disable Wake on LAN then it goes into standby OK (but of course the SB
can't wake it). Once in standby the Wake on LAN works fine.

Any thoughts ?

[slim] Discrete remote power on does not wake PC

2006-04-07 Thread mortod

I suspect this might be expected behaviour.

I am using a OneForAll remote with JP1, and have downloaded a set of
remote codes (not JVC based) from the JP1 site. That includes a
Slim_Devices_Remote_extended.ir file for inclusion in the SlimServer
tree - it includes discrete on/off codes, as well as implementing scan
fwd/back without having to hold a button down.

It all works fine, though the discrete power on does not wake my PC out
of standby, whereas the power toggle does. I can kind of understand that
as slimserver is of course unable to read the .ir file unless the PC is
awake and SS is running.

So my question is - does the JVC remote include a discrete power on
which does not need SS to be running in order to interpret ?

If not, then no matter as I can program a macro with JP1 that does a
power toggle (to wake the PC), followed by a power on (to make sure
that the SB3 is actually on).

[slim] Re: Qnap TS-101 Slimserver

2006-04-06 Thread mortod

Yes. I think you are in un-charted territory - see the main Qnap thread,
as I posted this very question about using a bare bones Qnap from Scan,
and the chap from Progressive responded saying that it has to be vendor
installed - of course he is no doubt protecting his own interests, but I
suspect it is field installable with a little know how. Do let us know
how you get on - I would be keen to buy a bare Qnap and move the 2nd
disk from my PC to it.
