Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Playback comes to iPeng

2011-02-10 Thread pichonCalavera

Excellent update!, I just paid and downloaded the latest version an hour
ago, and so far it has been working perfectly on my iPod 4G and iPod
2G.

I've tried playing locally and remotely (transcoding to 128Kbps Mp3,
using tethering from my cellphone) and both are working great.

Tomorrow I'll test it even more when I connect from work to my
Squeezebox Server at home.

I'll be looking forward to improve the battery usage and gapless
playback.

Once again, great update pippin! on the best app on my iPod.

To advance any further you'll need to install Linux on the PS3, without
it you won't be able to communicate directly with Squeezebox Server.

I just run PS3 Media Server alongside with Squeezebox Server on my

Re: [slim] Control your SqueezeBox or Transporter with Foobar2000

2010-07-30 Thread pichonCalavera

Hi, I got a little confused, I thought this script would allow to show
my Squeezebox library on foobar, select the songs, and those would play
on my Squeezebox hardware, but after understanding the web page, this
works by using the local foobar library... and sending those songs to
play on the Squeezebox hardware right?

Having said that, I got it to work as intended after following the
instructions on the web page.

Windows XP.
Foobar2000 1.0.3
Squeezebox Server 7.5.1 (running on the same PC as Foobar2000).
Squeezebox Classic (a.k.a. SB3)

Played a song on foobar2000, and I could hear it on the Squeezebox.

Thanks!, this is great stuff!, this sure will come in handy

Re: [slim] iPeng on iPad - How should it look like?

2010-01-28 Thread pichonCalavera

The iPad sure opens up the possibilities since it has more screen
estate.

The main focus should be of course to act as a remote control, so
browsing for albums and such should receive an overhaul, but it opens
the way for more eye-candy too (fancier Now Playing screen).

Re: [slim] Is third party plugins/applets important for your Squeezebox purchases ?

2010-01-08 Thread pichonCalavera

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the
results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73698

Question: Is third party plugins/applets important for your Squeezebox
purchases ?

- I won't buy any more Squeezebox products unless support for third
  party development is prioritized
- I won't buy any more Squeezebox products unless the third party
plugins I rely on is supported
- I use third party plugins but I would still consider buying more
  Squeezebox products without them
- I don't use third party plugins so they aren't important to my
  Squeezebox purchases

I think third party support is very important, since they extend the
functionality and make it a better experience in many cases.

I myself only use IRBlaster and the Ipeng App from 3rd parties right
now, but those 2 are critical for my enjoyment of the Squeezebox and my
music, and right now I'm interested in the SB Touch, but first I'll wait
and see how the 3rd party support works by the time is released.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] iPeng 1.1 now on the AppStore

mikes;414658 Wrote:

With the SB3 set to 100% fixed, when I hit Volume Up on iPeng screen
the SB3 display changes to the volume indicator, but does not send IR
blast. One difference that I have noticed is that with the web UI or
SC when I hit volume up, the display on the SB3 does NOT change to the
volume indicator. It just sends the IR signal to my pre-amp. As
before when I hit volume down it sends the IR blast and if I hit volume
up after hitting volume down it will send the IR blast until the SB3
thinks it is at 100% again.

My apologies to all who were confused by the change in volume UI as a
result of stored settings from IRBlaster. I guess I am in the minority
as a user of IRBlaster and iPeng, but it is a must have for my setup in
our main living room which also has the home theater.

I am hoping a solution can be found.

EDIT: I reopened Ticket #8 in your Trac system... I hope that is OK.
Let me know if you prefer I open a new ticket.

I had this 'weird behaviour' of IRBlaster not sending the volume up
signal to my amp, but I managed to get it working now, but I had to fix
the volume at less than 100 in the IRBlaster Player settings screen (for
example, at 80).

It's seems if you are fixed at 100 level, when you press volume down,
it goes temporarily to 99 level, so my theory is that pressing up
cannot go above 100, so it gets stuck and doesn't send the signal.

I modified the html code in the IRBlaster settings page to add a 99
fixed level, so I could decrease and increase the volume from ipeng
just fine.

Altough I already found a bug. When I see the information of a song,

fine, but if I put my Ipod Touch in horizontal position, the image spins
correctly, and when I tap the screen to return, the interface stays
horizontaly, and the Now Playing screen looks akward.

Re: [slim] Last.fm becoming pay-service.

Those were really sad news indeed, but I guess I saw it coming since a
lot of streaming services are going this way. At least they will still
allow subscriptions worldwide.

Interested to know how this would affect, since i heard streaming to

Re: [slim] Hole in the top of remote

2009-01-22 Thread pichonCalavera

Well I actually would like a Squeezebox Portable:

Take the controller as a basis, make it smaller, put some buttons on
the side to save space, keep the same UI, keep the memory card so the
capacity can be upgradable, make it a top notch SQ headphone out, same
audio codec support as the other Squeezeboxes, keep the streaming
playback, install Squeezecenter inside the Portable, ability to sync
with other Squeezecenter instances over Wifi so I can choose and copy
my music easily to my Portable, and use the transcoding abilities of
Squeezecenter so that I could have a choice of transcoding my FLAC
music library in my main server to MP3 or OGG on my Portable (and this
way I eliminate the need to have duplicates of the music I want in my
portable).

I have a SB3, and when pressing the Volume buttons on iPeng or IR

Does anyone know if there is a workaround to being able to change the

Re: [slim] iPeng Application 1.0 now on the App Store

2008-12-15 Thread pichonCalavera

pippin;365497 Wrote:

Regarding features/functions (I didn't answer in detail above):
 - iPeng in the future will support all plugins that are supported on
the Controller and do NOT requite LUA (which would violate Apple's TC)
plus likely some others, most notably it will also have the NowPlaying
centric plugin feature of the skin. That's with a 1.1 release, I don't
yet have a due date for that

No idea if the SBC supports it (I don't have one), but support for
IR-Blaster would be great... only the basic functions (PowerOff,
PowerOn, VolumeUp, VolumeDown).

Right now I can send the PowerOff and PowerOn commands correctly from
the Now Playing screens (Main and Multiple players) when I press the
Power button. And actually I can send the commands for VolumeUp and
VolumeDown succesfully with the Volume controls (I move the slider to
the left and it starts sending the VolumeDown signal, move it to the
right and the VolumeUp signal kicks in), but the volume UI controls
don't adapt well to the behaviour of IR-Blaster, for two causes:

1) I have a Fixed Volume enabled in my player's settings (set to Max
Volume, because the volume is controlled by the amplifier being managed
by IR-Blaster), so when I move the slide and release it... it returns to
it's original position (to Max volume).

2) Becuase the UI element is a slider, and for IR-Blastet what is
needed is buttons to increment and decrement (VolumeUp and VolumeDown),
but...
pippin;365884 Wrote:

The hardware volume buttons: Formally, Apple doesn't allow it, but when
1.0.3 is out I will do a dedicated 1.0.4 release with just that single
feature to try out Apple's response to that, then we'll know...
If somehow the hard buttons can get implemented, I guess this could be
solved.

Altough I tried the Volume controls in the iPeng Web skin and for some
reason they don't send the VolumeUp and VolumeDown signals to
IR-Blaster like in the main Squeezecenter Web Volume controls.

Implementing this would be perfect since right now I still have to keep
my Amp remote control near me for volume management.

Re: [slim] If this thing could only manage music...

I don't mind using external programs for organizing and tagging my music

using only Squeezecenter, and I must say it was a breeze manipulating
the current playlist in Amarok, when I sit down to listen to some
music, I change my current playlist a lot, I add some albums, I delete
some songs, I listen, I decide I want to listen some song first, so I
rearrange the current playlist, then I add another album... etc. This
process is very very tedious with the Web gui from Squeezecenter in
comparision to Desktop music players like Amarok or Winamp.

Moose is a great app, but unfortunetly is Windows-only.

Does this occurs too if you connect to Squeezenetwork directly from your
Squeezebox? if this doesn't happen when connecting to Squeezenetwork,
then we could isolate the problem to the connection with Squeezecenter
somehow.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox connected to 2-channel or 5.1/6.1/7.1 channel system?

Question: Squeezebox connected to 2-channel or 5.1/6.1/7.1 channel
system?

- 2-channel system
- 5.1/6.1/7.1-channel system

Since I always listen to music in my small room, it would be very
difficult to setup a 5.1 + channel system, because space is limited.

So I have a 2.1 system, consisiting of a Parasound Zpre2 Preamplifier,
Parasound Zamp v3 Amplifier, Axiom M2 V2 Speakers and Energy S8.3
Subwoofer.

Altough I would like very much seeing more music released for example
in 5.1 FLAC, becuase I think that with proper mixing, 5.1 + music could
sound amazing.

Re: [slim] Group Discs and ALBUM with (disc n)

2008-03-28 Thread pichonCalavera

I used to follow Musicbrainz guidelines 100%, and hit this same problem,
I had my multi-disc tagged with the (disc X), but Squeezecenter
identified them as different albums, so I struggled some time, because
I really wanted to treat them as the same album.

In the end I realized it didn\'t matter that much if (disc X) was
shown, so I followed \Squeezecenter\ guidelines, and now my Music
Library looks cleaner, (And I still have the (disc X) shown in the
filenames) even if now I\'m following a bit less the Musicbrainz
guidelines.

In the end what matters is how YOU want to access your own Music
Library.

Re: [slim] SB3, active speakers and subwoofer issue

2008-03-25 Thread pichonCalavera

Reviving this thread since I have a similar question.

I have a *Energy S8.3 Subwoofer*, specs here:
http://www.energy-speakers.com/v2/products/product-page.php?id=40,
basically it has a *RCA Mono Sub In* and a *High-Level Input*

I would like to use it with a PreAmplifier/Amplifier *Zpre2/Zamp v3*
combo, someway connecting the *Sub* to the *Zamp v3*.

After reading and investigating around, my question arises because I
think there are 3 possible ways to connect the *Sub* to the *Zamp v3*
(pic of *Zamp v3* here:
http://www.parasound.com/img/zcustom/zampv3_rear_big.jpg ) :

1. From the *Speaker terminals* on the *Zamp* to the *High-Level
Inputs* on the *Sub*.

2. From the *Loop Jacks* on the *Zamp* to the *RCA Mono Sub In* on the
*Sub* (using either a *Y connector* or *Stereo-to-mono summing cable*
to pair the *Loop Jacks* on the *Zamp*)

3. Connecting just a single *RCA Mono cable* from either one of the
Left or Right *Loop Jacks* on the *Zamp* to the *RCA Mono Sub In* on
the *Sub*.

My preferred way would be to connect it the -number 2- way, but I'm now
thinking about it, after reading the reasons for not using a Y cable:
http://www.rane.com/note109.html . I've read of how to make a summing
cable on the schematics from here:
http://www.thewulph.com/Projects/monosum1.htm, but is using a headphone
type cable, so I don't know how a RCA cable would be made.

There is the -number 1- way too, but I don't know if the *Speakers
terminals* on the *Zamp* would be able to handle the *Sub*.

As for the -number 3- way, in this thread is the first time I've read
about it.

So what would the best way to connect it?, any suggestions?, or there
is no way to connect it?

Re: [slim] anyone have SoftSqueeze running across the internet?

2008-03-18 Thread pichonCalavera

I\'ve used SoftSqueeze to listen to music on my Squeezecenter back home
across the Internet.

The main bottleneck for me was the upload speed on my Internet
connection where SqueezeCenter is located, since I can only get like
128 Kbps upload speed reliabily (even if I have 1500 Kbps download
speed).

In order for this to work I had to lower the quality of streaming to
64Kbps (or 80Kbps by doing some source code tweaking on Squeezecenter),
and since the default Squeezecenter interface is \'slow for Internet
use\', I use the classic skin interface to browse from the internet.

What Sofsqueeze version are you using?, I think I had problems too with
versions before 3.6, you should use the one that comes with
Squeezecenter.

2008-02-15 Thread pichonCalavera

One thing you should consider is that you cannot play DRM-protected
music on the Squeezebox.

If you already have the AppleTV, you could play your local music from
there, and use a SBR/SBC to play Pandora and Rhapsody from
Squeezenetwork.

Another thing you should consider is the sound equipment you are going
to use, for example if you only have one set of powered speakers,
you\'ll have to switch the input from the speakers between the AppleTV
and the SB3/SBC, depending of what source of music you are using at the
moment.

the online store and some selected partners.

I was able to find it, if someone is interested you'll have to change a

Re: [slim] Why Squeezebox sucks...

2008-02-10 Thread pichonCalavera

I would vote for the Undo option, I actually been having this problem
since before I used Squeezecenter/Slimserver, I used Winamp and I would
add music from Windows Explorer and occasionally by mistake I choosed
the Play function and wiped all my playlist, and every time I shout,
there should be an Undo function!

And since we are on the topic of playlists, I think a way for removing
more than one songs at a time from the playlist is a must, becuase
sometimes I change my mind and want to remove some songs I added, and
it's a pain to press the Delete button on each and every song i want to
remove. I guess I became to familiar with the Winamp way of handling
playlists, there I could choose many songs with Shift or Ctrl, but
since this a web app, I'm not sure how much can be acomplished without
turning it into a slow app.

Oh, and I wish the playlist was numbered, so at least I can see how
many songs have been added. And show the total playtime of the playlist
at the bottom... ok I'll stop now :)

Re: [slim] Streaming interruption Q

2008-02-10 Thread pichonCalavera

Hi, I'm trying to tune my remote streaming settings, doing some tests
with Squeezecenter 7 on the server with Debian 4.0 Etch that is not
very powerful, just 1 Ghz CPU and 396 MB RAM, installed at my home. I'm
using Winamp to stream music from my server thru the Internet on a
Windows Vista machine.

My upload internet connection speed on the server at home is like
128Kbps - 192Kbps (going to test it when I get home). The download
internet connection speed here on the client is like 1 Mbps.

I've tried 128Kbps bitrate for streaming on my Player setting under
Squeezecenter, but got too many dropouts, so I went to 96Kbps and can
stream just fine, but when I'm navigating the Web GUI, sometimes the
music drops out, so I've tried 64Kbps and can stream just fine.

But I would like to try streaming at 80Kbps, but on the Audio Player
Settings page on Squeezecenter I can't choose this option (it goes from
64 to 96), is there a way to move in a configuration file or something
so I can try 80Kbps?

And what exactly is the LAME Quality Level setting?, if I lower the
value, the quality of the sound can increase at the expense of CPU
power on the server side?

Yeah, mostly for SB3 specific functions like the Brightness or Size

want to control the SB3 just with the new SBC.

I tried it at home, with Winamp running on a laptop and my Squeezebox,

running Squeezecenter 7.0, I could select from the Web GUI both players
to synchronize, but I could only hear Winamp, since from the Squeezebox
there was no sound coming (and the bars screensaver was not moving),
even tough in the Squeezebox VFD display it said that Ava Adore was
playing.

Re: [slim] TinyAmp S30 amplifier the perfect companion Squeezebox ?

2008-01-25 Thread pichonCalavera

; Wrote:

So this is interesting. I read posts from various people asking for
ideas for small auto-switching amps. My new Audioengine A2 speakers are
auto-switching and I was measuring their power usage today (as there's
no way to tell if they're on or off). Roughly 6W playing, 0W after
the timeout (seems to be a few minutes). Excellent! Then I wondered
about the T-amp which is used in another room - it's not auto-switching
and I wanted to make sure it wasn't eating power as I frequently forget
to turn it off. It draws a whopping 1W when playing at decently loud
volume through regular bookshelf speakers. I'm not sure how that is
possible (my AC theory is flaky at best!) but I'm not worried about the
 auto-switch anymore!

Wow, good discovery, just to be sure, is this:
http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/audio/9c60/ the new iteration of
the T-Amp?
And what speakers are you connecting to the T-Amp?
I guess for the T-Amp always on aproach, you'll have to put the Volume
knob at a level that will be more convenient for control from the
digital volume of the Squeezebox.

My setup right now is just a Squeezebox in my room connected to some
Sennheiser wireless headphones:
http://www.sennheiserusa.com/newsite/productdetail.asp?transid=009920
(the base unit of this has the auto-turn-on function), and I want to
connect some speakers that don't have to be very powerful since I would
mostly listen at night, and I live in a small apartment.

This T-Amp idea sounds good, and I guess I could connect my Sennheiser
headphones to the headphone jack on the Squeezebox, and the T-Amp to
the RCA outputs. The thing here is I don't know if I could acomplish
some way of switching automatically (for example with the SB3 remote or
Squeezecenter Web GUI) between my headphones and the speakers, because
if they both auto-switch-on with the sound, when I just want to listen
my headphones, I'll have to turn the volume down of the T-Amp manually
in the amp unit, making the auto-switch-on not very useful. Fortunately
the other way around, if I listen to my speakers, the headphones base
would auto-turn-on, but since the actual headphones have to be turned
on manually anyway (becuase they run on rechargable batteries), the
sound would not be reproduced in the headphones at all :)

You connect the Digital Coax Output from the Squeezebox into the

And what about that built-in power supply output for a Squeezebox?, in

So this is a DAC and amplifier at the same time?

have a headphone jack, it is not possible to connet the IR Emitter. But
since the Duet consist of both the SBR and the SBC, you could use the
IR Emitter that is built-in in the SBC.

Why do *all* of the cell phones tout their ability to play MP3 files,

at best mediocre functionality as a phone?

What ever happened to do one thing, and do it well?

The Controller seems to be aiming to be a well designed wireless
controller for SqueezeBoxen and Transporters. Cool with me.

Yeah, everyone has their needs, and we all want the perfect product
just for us :P . But let's face it, the Squeezebox Controller has the
main purpose of controlling our music coming from Squeezebox /
Squeezecenter / Squeezenetwork from the comfort of our home, I mean,
every application and every problem has different solutions, for this
case, the SBR has been built from the experience learned by their past
products (Squeezebox), from the competition (Sonos Controller, IPod
GUI, etc.), and the feedback from their customers, so I think it has a
very good chance of being a great product of it's kind, since it was
built by people that know how to do a digital music player right. If
they wanted to construct a Universal Remote for example, we won't be
reading this at the moment, since it would be a sure thing that it
would not be ready by now, more features... more time.

I myself won't be buying a SBR right now, since I already own a
Squeezebox 3, don't have the multi-room requirement to buy a Duet, and
like many people here, the $300 price is too much for me right now,
altough I'm very interested in how the software in the SBR evolves,
becuase in the end, im really interested in new ways of accesing my
music and internet music services/radio.

Re: [slim] Announcing the Squeezebox Duet

2008-01-05 Thread pichonCalavera

Wow!, congratulations on another product release!

I bought a Squeezebox 3 like 2 months ago (The one with the VFD display
:) ), so here are my first main observations:

Differences of Squeezebox 3 (SB3) vs. Squeezebox Receiver (SBR)

The SBR doesn't have a headphone jack.
The DAC from SB3 is a Burr-Brown#8482; 24-bit DAC, and the one on the
SBR is a Wolfson® 24-bit DAC.
The Total harmonic distortion on the SB3 is less than -93.5dB (0.002%)
and on the SBR is less than -88dB (0.002%) (no idea what this means :P
).
The SB3 has 64MB of RAM while the SBR has 32MB.
The SBR doesn't have a VFD.
The SB3 costs $299 and the SBR costs $149.

So I see that both are not very diferent in terms of arquitecture /
functions, so I guess a SBR can be synchronized with a SB3 or maybe
even a SB2 for music playback from Squeezecenter?

As for the Squeezebox Controller (SBC), it seems there is a headphone
jack on the SBC pics, what purpose does it have?

Also I'm not very clear with this: -Bridging capability allows Ethernet
devices to connect to the network through Squeezebox Receiver's wireless
connection-. Does it mean the SBC can connect to the network through the
SBR instead of connecting directly to the wireless router for example?

I wish you great success with your new products!

of the Squeezebox Controller picture shown on the main 'SBC page'

headphone output, but maybe it has another purpose?

That said, although the new Squeezebox Receiver is a good price point
at $149, I can't say I'm impressed with the price being asked for the

Exactly my toughts, since I already own a Squeezebox, $299 is very
expensive for me right now for the Controller, altough on the flip
side, is $100 cheaper than the Sonos Controller, so while I think the
Sonos controller is very-expensive, I think the Squeezebox Controller
is just expensive :P

But I think the main purpose of this is the Duet and first timers to
the Squeezebox, since you'll get the Duet for $400, that in comparision
with the Sonos for example, I think you'll need at least $750 for a
similar setup (Sonos Controller + Sonos® ZonePlayer 80). Also I don't
think a Squeezebox Receiver is very helpful without a Squeezebox
Controller as mvalera says on this thread:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41805page=3

mvalera Wrote:

One note about the SB Receiver, is that it requires the Controller for
network setup. You can't just buy one on it's own. It's for adding
 extra rooms.

The Receiver and Controller will be available as an accessory from us
online, and a few select online partners. They will not be a retail
 boxed product.

Re: [slim] The 'Duet' is here

2008-01-05 Thread pichonCalavera

Oh ok, this clears things up a bit, I'm actually quite intrigued right
now with the SD Card slot and the headphone output jack, since these
two things could make a portable music device at one moment in time out
of this Squeezebox Controller, I mean, there is a 'download' option
right now on Squeezecenter for when you are browsing your own tracks,
so if this function comes to SqueezeOS (formely known as Jive), you
could just be browsing your personal music collection, download the
albums/songs of choice to your Squeezebox Controller to be stored on
the SD Card slot, and off you go... now you have your own open-source
music player filled with your own personal music, altough the
Controller probably is too big for this purpose.

Since the Squeezebox Controller needs Squeezecenter 7.0, I guess we can
expect the Squeezebox Receiver, Squeezebox Controller and Squeezecenter
7.0 being released simultaneously?

Question: Inguz Room Correction plugin

- Highly recommend
- Worth a try if you have time
- Geek stuff only
- Vaporware

I think you need a 2 GHz CPU as a minimum.

Same reason I don't have it installed, my Slimserver is installed on a
1GHz PC.

Your web browser should not be the problem, I assume you are trying to

Re: [slim] Artist sorting works like crap

2007-10-05 Thread pichonCalavera

Thanks for the quick replys.

Ok, I finally understood, there is a tag for FLAC files named
-ARTISTSORT-, and upon doing some investigating I found that there is
an MP3 tag named -TSOP-, that is supposed to be the equivalent of
-ARTISTSORT-.

I could not get it the first time since I did not tagged my music
manually, (hence, my ignorance in the -ARTISTSORT- manner), I did it
with MusicBrainz Picard, and on the MusicBrainz page there is a field
for changing an artist Sort Name, so I guess that takes care of
changing the appropiate tag on a MP3 or FLAC file.

Time to investigate some way of changing this, since it looks is not a
standard tag supported by most changing-tag programs.
