Re: [slim] Anyone experience of dead remote?

2009-06-03 Thread spinaltap

For anyone else reading this thread, who has similarly experienced a
dead remote...

Bas from Logitech has to be applauded for picking-up on my predicament
on this forum.

He offered alternative solutions to my problem. This was very much
appreciated.

He's also sorted out my log-in problems on the Logitech website.

Overall, this has been an excellent customer experience from Logitech.

In the end, I didn't take up Bas' kind offer - as AMP3 in Edinburgh
exchanged my dead remote within 7 working days (without having to ship
the entire Squeezebox back to the retailer). They also refunded my
insured postage costs.

Re: [slim] Anyone experience of dead remote?

2009-06-01 Thread spinaltap

When I attempt to log onto my Logitech account

With my current email address/password: the site reports that this
combination is not valid.

If I enter my current email address, and seek confirmation of my
password: the site reports that the user id supplied is not valid.

If I enter my old email address/password: I successfully gain access to
the site.

If I then attempt to update my details, by replacing my old email
address with my current email address: the site reports that such an
account (email address) already exists on the database.

Your assistance would be gratefully appreciated.

How strange!

I haven't received any emails from you at all - and I check my messages
several times daily.

I can only surmise that you are sending messages to my former ISP email
address (I was with Be, but now with o2).

It's been nearly a week since AMP3 confirmed receipt of my remote, but
I have yet to hear when they intend to post a replacement.

I've since returned the faulty remote to Advanced MP3 Players in

Thanks for the response; but since I didn't buy directly from Logitech

I'll have to deal directly with the supplier, rather than Logitech

[slim] Anyone experience of dead remote?

2009-05-19 Thread spinaltap

I already have a Squeezebox Classic, but volunteered to accept delivery
of another Squeezebox Classic for my brother.

Unfortunately, the supplied remote doesn't work (even though I changed
the batteries). My own remote works perfectly on this new Squeezebox -
so, it's clearly a problem with the supplied remote.

Before I go through the trauma of shipping the remote to the other end
of the country for exchange, has anyone else had similar experience.
Were you able to solve the problem, or did you have to return the
remote?

[slim] Wireless Bridge Yamaha Network Receiver

2008-07-29 Thread spinaltap

Here's a strange one to solve, one that even technical support cannot
fathom (but they thought you guys might have the answer)...

Before I bought my SB3 I routinely listened to internet radio via my
Yamaha RX-V2700 Network Receiver - connected to an Apple Airport
Express (N) via ethernet (which acted as an ethernet bridge) that
received streams from my Netgear DG834N router. Moreover, no problem
was encountered in setting-up this system.

I purchased the SB3 due to the inflexibility of the v.Tuner software
inherent in the Yamaha receiver. That is, stations such as
SmoothJazz.Com could only be heard at 44kbps via the Yamaha and with no
option to seek a higher bit-rate stream.

Reason suggests that the SB3 would act as a wireless bridge to for the
Yamaha unit in the same manner as the Airport Express. You might
wonder, why bother? In response, the SB3 blows the internal Yamaha
internet radio out of the water - but I'm a dog with a bone between his
teeth; I would simply like the Yamaha receiver to work fully as it did
before.

The problem is that the Yamaha will not make a connection with the SB3
working as a wireless bridge in the same way that the Apple Airport
Express did. To ensure that the wireless bridge in the SB3 is working
normally, I borrowed a Windoze laptop and switched-off its wireless
functionality. Connected via ethernet, the SB3 acted as normal as a
wireless bridge.

The MAC address (and ip address) of the Yamaha and the SB3 have been
entered into the Netgear router's set-up pane - as usual - but no luck
in making the vital through-connection.

Any ideas?

[slim] .aspx?

2008-07-26 Thread spinaltap

There are a number of podcasts that I would like to hear via SB3, but
they are in .aspx.

If I access them via iTunes on my computer there isn't any problem.

However, if I enter the identical address into my SB Favourites
(podcasts) page, and then try to access them via the SB3, I get an
error message stating that it isn't a valid .xml file.

Strangely, I get the descriptive details contained in each podcast, but
cannot access the actual audio podcast.

Any ideas?

As a Mac owner, I couldn't authorise Last.fm when using either Safari,

Have any other Macintosh owners experienced the same problem?

[slim] Why not discounts for existing owners?

2008-07-10 Thread spinaltap

Given the separate discussion on a 40% discount on Logitech products,
perhaps it would be a good idea for Logitech to give some discount to
existing Squeezebox owners. After all, look at the clamour to jump on
the proverbial bandwagon that we have witnessed.

Surely, if Logitech can afford to give such a huge discount to Dell
employees it makes sense to provide some form of discount on further
purchases to existing owners in the form of an 'owner's club' discount.
Let's face it, Logitech are still making money if they can offer a 40%
discount.

To ensure such discounts were restricted to authentic Squeezebox owners
I believe this could be accomplished within SqueezeNetwork. This would
avoid the masses from getting wind of a discount code. Much like
authorising your Last.fm account, you would first have to log onto your
SqueezeNetwork in the usual manner, and then follow a link to the
Logitech website to place a discounted order. Restrictions could be
placed on how many different products you could order within a defined
time period (like Apple do on their Education website).

If 40% can be offered to Dell employees, then surely a modest 20%
discount is reasonable for existing Squeezebox owners?

Re: [slim] How to Remove Scratches on SB3?

The impression is created that the plastic cover would be posted to me
for me to replace, not for me to return the unit for someone else to
repair.

On that basis $90 for a self-repair piece of plastic is unreasonable.

Re: [slim] What Anti-Virus software do you use

2008-07-09 Thread spinaltap

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the
results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=49644

Question: Which Anti-Virus do you use

- Avast
- AVG (free 8.0)
- Avira
- CA E-Trust
- ESET
- F-Port
- F-Secure
- McAfee (any version)
- Norton (any version)
- Other or None (please post a response)

Although, in theory, I don't need anti-virus software on my Mac, I
prefer being cautious - so I've been using Intego's range of software
for the past year or so (but previously used Norton).

When I eventually swap my current PPC-powered Mac Mini for an
Intel-powered Mac Mini, I'll upgrade to Intego Dual Protection (that
adds BitDefender).

[slim] How to Remove Scratches on SB3?

2008-07-08 Thread spinaltap

Only having owned my SB3 for a couple of weeks I've caused considerable
surface scratching on the display unit (and having received it as a
present, I'm quite upset by my actions).

Does anyone have any ideas for removing such surface scratches?

Two solutions on the web look promising - such as AppleSauce
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Applesauce-Polish-Scratch-Removal-iPod/dp/B000NNM1B0/ref=pd_sxp_f_pt/026-8207151-6329205

..and Displex -
http://www.amazon.co.uk/PDA-Mobile-Phone-scratch-remover/dp/B000WOWKZW/ref=pd_sbs_ce_5/026-8207151-6329205

However, I don't want to waste money on fruitless experimentation, so
any ideas would be appreciated.

Alternatively, does anyone know if the top-half display acrylic can be
replaced (as a spare part) and how would one go about replacing such a
part?

[slim] Problem in Wireless Bridging

2008-06-19 Thread spinaltap

Before I purchased my SB, I successfully connected my Yamaha RX-V2700
Network Receiver via cross-over ethernet cable to an Apple Airport
Express (that received streams from my Netgear router).

However, on connecting the Yamaha receiver to the SB via the same
cross-over cable (with the unit switched-on and set to 'Net'), and on
initializing the SB, the wireless bridging option does not appear on
the set-up menu. I have even tried a 'non cross-over' cable without
success.

Any thoughts/ideas on rectifying this situation?
