I use a Windows 10 PC, and copy/paste in the Chrome browser.
Looking at the thread which is the intended destination for the link, a
single left-click in the address bar highlights the whole of the address
(including the "http://;), that's what I copy. Then in the comment I'm
writing, I put the cursor where I want the link to be and paste.
Linking to a specific post is similar, but the address comes from the
comment number at the right-hand end of the blue bar above the poster's
name. (Your comment which I'm quoting here is post #26 in this thread.)
I right click on that number, choose "Copy link address" and paste that
into the comment I'm writing - which gives me this:
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?112557-LMS-Documenter-Part-II=981608=1#post981608

Probably the touch-screen equivalent method will involve long-press on
the equivalent locations. And I know next to nothing useful about Apple
products, and only a fraction more about Linux systems so have no tips
to offer there!

Hope that helps!

HI Rob - I've got a somewhat clunky way with Windows apps to put out a
minimal list - all the albums and artists sorted in either order. I'm
struggling to find the time to complete the documentation so that others
cleverer than me can perhaps tweak it into a single-click tool, or
improve my method. All being well that'll be finished in a few days
(Famous last words)

Would you be able to post a link to the 'new thread' you mention. I'd

Since you asked the question in this thread, I'll answer here. What I
had in mind was a very minimal catalog of albums without their contents,
so no artwork. I see someone else has asked for something similar in the
new thread, but that person might feel differently about the art.

Many thanks for this! It's very useful. I tried to run it from Linux,
using Wine and/or Mono. No success, but that's hardly surprising. It's
well worth the time it takes to boot to Windows.

Would you consider an option to list only albums (album artist and album
title) without individual tracks?

Thanks a lot for the update. I downloaded, clicked the .exe and - - -
Avast wanted to take it away for analysis in their lab (or message to
that effect). It came back with a clean bill of health, so hopefully
other Avast users will find their file is cleared quickly.

Everything seemed to be heaps quicker than before. The LMS server was
identified in 20 seconds, the scan completed in under a minute and the
pdf (without album art) creation took scarcely more than a minute.
But I've still got >1600 pages in a 10 MB file. Sadly that doesn't
really satisfy my wish for a file small enough for my phone to scroll
quickly and search with the tools already there - and my basic HTML
files do that job for me.

Anyway, thanks once more. I suspect plenty of people will enjoy having
the output from your app - renewed congratulations on the product.

A suggestion: Maybe edit the first post in this thread to put the new
Dropbox link up there, with the new instructions (and maybe a comment to
explain the timing for people landing there for their first time)?

I've put a revised version of the documenter on my Dropbox - the only
major difference in this version is you have the option to exclude the
album artwork which reduces the file file size massively. To give you an
idea of the difference artwork makes my collection with artwork produced
a file of 27mb and without it is 1.3mb

Wow! That's amazing - I wish I was clever enough to write that sort of
software

All I am looking for is something simple that lists my albums in a
format that I can easily look at when I'm out and about, confronted with
bargain CDs, or other shopping challenges. Not too long ago I bought an
album for the third time and got really cross with myself!

So my basic wish list is a single app that lists out all my albums,
showing "Album artist" and "Album title", one album per row. Ideally two
versions, one sorted in artist order and one in Album title order, using
LMS's sort order (to deal with "The", "El", and so on). My favourite
format would be HTML but almost anything in widespread use eg pdf would
work.

I have managed to create HTML lists, spending some lockdown hours using
Google to find ways to get there. My method is clunky, only just about
works for me, and is comparatively complex so I had to write down my
steps to do it so I could repeat the process. Samples of my output are
here https://wbeachdave.weebly.com/artists.html and
https://wbeachdave.weebly.com/albums.html
These two files together are under 500 KB so comfortably fit on my phone
and scroll quickly. (The pdf from LMS Documenter was over 300MB)

There's a similar conversation going on in the 'Album Catalog Creator'
thread, from which I'll shortly post my clunky way of listing albums.

Thanks! I don't think it will do what I want, unless the user can choose
whether to include art work, track lists and perhaps other things. My
music collection is too big (nearly 48k tracks on 3.2k albums) to
display in the format of your pdf, pretty nice though it is!

Hi there, your post has resurrected the Documenter ! I thought it had
died a natural death but if there's still interest I can put it up on
Dropbox again - I've made some changes to the original version - it no
longer lists all servers found ( it caused too many problems ) but picks
the first one it finds. Let me know if you would like it resurrected.

Just in case anyone is still watching this thread, which I only recently
came across. I've successfully produced a pdf of my albums, from my
Windows 10 PC.
I ran the Documenter, following kidstypike's user guide -
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?106963-New-version-of-LMSDocumenter=876086=1#post876086

The files were still available from Ralphy's store -
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?106963-New-version-of-LMSDocumenter=960064=1#post960064
When the documenter opened it showed two LMS server addresses - although
I've got only one, running on a Raspberry Pi! As others have found,
clicking the correct address in the documenter's drop down server list
doesn't actually make it switch.
I looked in the router to see what was assigned to the other "server" IP
address and found it's a Chromecast. After pulling the network cable
from the Chromecast, restarting the documenter then showed only the
actual LMS server address and eventually ran to successful completion.
Scan time wasn't really noticeable (a minute or two, maybe) but
producing the pdf took around an hour and a half. It's 350 MB long and I
find it a bit awkward to consult on my phone or for other practical
use.

Still, well done to the author for creating the app in the first place.

Indeed - hence I thought @Carp might have heard back by now?

Anyway I solved my problem -short-term- using MP3TAG - it gave a very
clean simple out put which was what I was after (took it about an hour
to catalogue all tags for the 47k tracks in my main library but only
about 5 minutes to generate a txt output list (in the format I wanted)
once that was done.

Would still like to get LMS Documenter working so I can directly
interrogate the LMS Database rather than scanning the files (as MP3TAG
does).

P.S. Deliberately not using MediaMonkey for any of this as it always
seem to be different to LMS and it doesn't seem to like DSD files
either...

I'm just trying to use LMSDocumenter for the first time and having the
exact same issue as @quadronado had in Feb 2017 - because my LMS is on a
QNAP NAS on port 9001 LMSDocumenter seems to just ignore it and there is
no way to manually enter the IP:Port nor any config file to adjust to

issue above but don't know if he ever updated the app Feb 2017 or

Re: [slim] New version of LMSDocumenter

2017-02-13 Thread Jim Pattison

I'm having a similar issue with the server.

There are 2 values listed in the drop-down: 192.168.2.1 and
192.168.2.15
22118

My server is 192.168.2.15. It's running on the PC that I'm running
Documenter on.
22119

But if I select that value from the drop-down, the URL beside it
(http://192.168.2.1:9000) doesn't change, and when I click the "Scan
Music Library" button, if get a "Server Not Found" error.

Yes, could be the port number, better wait for the dev.

I usually have just the one server running, on a RPi, I stared the other
servers (PC/laptop/spare pi) to see if they would all get listed)

LMS 7.9 on a Raspberry Pi 3/piCorePlayer 3.10, playlists and LMS cache
on a USB stick, 25K+ music library on a WD MyCloud network drive,
Rasberry Pi 2 > piCorePlayer 3.02 > HiFiBerry DIGI+ > AudioEngine DAC1 >
AVI DM5
Raspberry Pi 3/piCorePlayer 3.10/HiFiBerry DAC+ > Cambridge Audio Minx 5
(study)
1 x Boom (dining room) - 1 x Radio (garage) - 1 x Touch (display and
controller only) - 1 x SB3 (spare)

Not sure, is your server running?

I have a choice of four, do you want one of mine? :)

Yes, it's running on my QNAP-NAS. I'm listening to music at the moment.
Is there no way to enter the server ip manually? Maybe it's because QNAP
uses a different port (9001 instead of 9000)?

Nice work Mr Fox.

I keep a copy of the PDF on my phone - comes in handy and has should
stop me buying duplicates!

If you come to do a further revision what would be really useful in the
PDF would be a link at the bottom of each album that takes you back to
the index. Scrolling back and forth is a bit tedious.

Guess I wasn't expecting the exe to take over a minute to start up, but
it ran very quickly after that. My 14,244 tracks generated a 103MB PDF,
but I expect the album cover art is a good proportion of the total size.

Until something official appears

1 Double click the .exe, takes a while until the ui appears.
2 Add a name - appears on page 1 of the .pdf
3 Choose a folder for the .pdf
4 Choose your server (should be already listed)
5 Click "Scan music library"
6 These four boxes get checked by the scanner
7 When the four boxes in 6 are checked, click the "Generate pdf" button

8 Watch progress :)
