Just for the record, this problem went away after I upgraded my

small it's easily missed. Think of it as the need for a car having 10

standard car having just 5 gears but in some limited very specific
cases it may be the possibility of having an extra gear in between the

Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !

2011-02-27 Thread Bigtwistee

Great work bluegaspode!
I looked for a wishlist thread, sorry if this request is misplaced...

How about adding some type of sound-sensitive visualization, or the
ability to run a third-party vis app like G-force or Geiss. Like a
second screensaver mode. Screensaver mode could start with the enlarged
album art view, as it does now, then, after a user-defined period, cycle
to a visualization mode. Seems like the optional play-to-iPad feature
could allow the movement of the visualization to be synced to the music
being streamed.

I mean, really, how hard could it be? :)

I would gladly pay for this add-on. I am sure many other couch
potato/lava lamp/party mode type users would as well.

Thanks again for a great product and awesome support!

Love Squeezepad's elegant design and simplicity!

On my iPad though, the volume slider in the main screen is very
difficult to set precisely. It works better in the larger artwork
screen, possibly because it's longer.

Even though I mostly control volume on my preamp, I would very much
like to see a longer slider in the main screen so that I could more
easily make minor volume adjustments (near the 100 mark) with greater
precision.

SBS 7.6 has a new database schema which requires ACC to be updated to
become compatible.

SBS 7.6 will also by default use the new SQlite database. SQlite is not
made with multi-user remote access in mind. For ACC to support it a
number of possibilities need to be evaluated (like using a non-official
ODBC driver or working with a local copy of the database file, ...)

However SBS 7.6 also provides an option to use the MySQL database. It
will be easy to modify ACC to support this scenario and hence this
support will be the first available after 7.6 release.

Visualization would only work when streaming to the iPad. For a
SqueezeBox one doesn't have the data.

Personally I think on the long run I'd rather implement downloading new
images for the current song from the internet to present it while stuff
is playing.
What do other people think about visualizations of the current song?
Should we have jumping lights and animations on the main screen, who
else would be interested in such a feature?

The volume curve in SqueezePlay source-code has 100 entries.
Based on comments it's derived from Booms volume curve.
So I guess at least on the newer devices 100 discrete values are

Apple's sudden interest in 24-bit sound is likely in preparation for new
hardware, and where Apple goes, folks tend to follow.

I like the idea of 24-bit files, but my equipment and ears cannot
distinguish it from 16-bit.

Perhaps Apple can lure a few young folks away from white earbuds to
audiophile equipment. I see that as a good thing.

I'll stick with SB though.

SlimProto sends values based on the Boom volume curve - and SqueezePlay
uses them 1:1.
For further reference follow the white rabbit to Playback.lua and
_serverVolumeToGain.

(the values get converted to a linear scale and then back to the volume
curve - that's where the magic 65536 from soundchecks/peterws 100%
volume lock are from)

CometD is working on the linear 0-99 scale though - so the volume
slider values are linear, but the actual volume changes are much more
sensitive on the lower end.

Which - if one has an amp connected to say a Touch also means to:
a) either use the 100% volume lock and only use the Amps volume
b) or raise the volume of the Amp and operate the Touch on lower volume
values to get good fine grained volume controls (and reduced dynamics of
the audio on these low volume levels :( )

Guess (a) should definitely be te preferred way if one bought a Touch
because of it's good sound.
But then the volume sliders in our Apps are useless.

Damn.
Always these compromises

Thanks god a have son, so audio quality in the living room is affected
by this particular noise floor I cannot change anyway whatever I try.
Need to wait 17 more years :)

That would surely sound good enough, but leave you with all other
problems a propriatary lossy format has such as cascade coding

If they offer exactly whats on the CD people are going to compare with

Recent lossy codecs are already floating point and have no bit depth in
a way PCM wavs have. So if you feed them with 24bit files and no higher
sampling rate i doubt the files will be different much cause the
psycho-acoustic will leave the music content below the noise floor of
16bit away already most of the time.

This will be like iTunes and Amazon Video on Demand offering movie

Apparently Apple wants to cover the entire audio market too,
irrespective of whether 24-bit audio will be worth the extra cost to

Re: [slim] Squeezeplay/msb.com, Sirius app

2011-02-27 Thread slimrick

Well,
It looks like I figured out my problem and here is what I think
happened...
I had my Squeezeplay on two separate PC connected to Msb.com and when I
tried to play Sirius, it did not know how to decode WMA. I went into my
local server and made the Squeezeplay disconnect from Msb.com and run
thru my server. Now they both work fine. That was a fun few hours! All
I wanted to do was listen to Sirius while I changed my oil in my truck
and next thing I know, I got sucked down a worm hole trying to figure
this out. Oh well, I guess that is how you learn.

Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !

Thank you. I was not aware that the volume icons are actually active.

However, while the + (right side) works well, the - (left side) is
hit or miss. It seems as though it needs a larger target area to work
as well as the +. (Both icons work well in the larger artwork
 screen).

Hhmm - this is strange - actually the target area is the same size for
both icons and quite large already.
Here is a picture from the interface, showing the active areas - so
don't try to hit the small icon exactly, there is plenty of room to the
left which should work as well.
