The old (ODFAuthors) guides I moved to NC need a lot more work than just
a change of reference to NC. I have proposed that all of the 5 chapters
be updated and merged into one book to simplify things for new
contributors. In fact I have already started work on the Style Guide.

I am in the point of finalizing the template, the styles are done and I
just need to get confirmation from other team members about some of the
text changes I propose to make. (See my next post)

Not sure we need those fonts now, because Liberation is included in the
LO installation file.

[libreoffice-documentation] Documentation Template

2018-12-10 Thread Dave Barton
Hi Folks,

As mentioned in my previous post, I almost ready to upload the 2nd.
draft of my proposal for the 6.x template.

Some text I will will be adding to both the template and the
contributors guide is clear information about the method to be used to
insert figures (images, captions & anchoring). I created a small
document with the proposed steps and uploaded it to NC:
https://nextcloud.documentfoundation.org/apps/files/?dir=/LibreOffice%20Documentation/English/Contributor%20Resources/Documentation%20Team%20Info=81614

Please take a look at this document and post if you can suggest a better
alternative method.

Dave

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] need simple graphic design suggestions

2018-12-10 Thread Drew Jensen
I wanted to touch base with you all on this again.

Cathy and I had a chance last Thursday to think of this as we reviewed her
updates and questions on Chapter 1. One of the things that came up was the
question of accessibility and best practices regarding images and ebub
formats.

So, I wasn't sure what exactly was already in the Contributors document and
had the chance to read that over this morning. There is a few paragraphs
covering basics on annotating with a target of the printed page, no mention
of accessibility and electronic publication which I could find. (I didn't
read over all chapters of the book today).

So one question, for example, would be on Alternative text for images and
the epub formats. I was trying to get the Alternative text which I assegned
to a graphic to show up in a pdf, as an example, and having no luck at it.
I didn't try any of the other epub formats and I would be interested if
others know if that works properly there or not?

Thanks much,

Drew

Great - looking the steps for inserting images over now. First read it
looks like what was discussed regarding anchors.

Will put the seven steps to use here later today and tomorrow.

Did you want some feedback before Wednesday? Otherwise I expect to be on
the call this week.

Best wishes,

Drew

No problem, it's all work that needs to be done, so thank you.

Chapter 5 & 6 kinda' overlap' with each other. When we have consensus on
the template, I will try to get both updated.

No. A very long time ago I asked the same question of Jean and she
explained what her intention for chapter 4 was. I am sure I kept her
answer, but I will have to scratch around in my archives and post back
later.

[libreoffice-documentation] Update to Chapter 3 of Contributor document

2018-12-10 Thread Drew Jensen
Howdy again,

So, while at it I grabbed a copy of Chatper 3 and renamed it to 3 - Using
the LibreOffice Documentation Team Website.odt.

Again a fairly straight forward exchange of ODFAuthors for TDF NextCloud
[sever] or LibreOffice Documentation Team workspace was all I did at the
moment.

Also, changed some of the copyright material so reference the old chapter 3
as the basis for this work, moved contributors to prior status..etc.

The direct link to the file in the workgroup folder is
https://nextcloud.documentfoundation.org/f/88194

Best wishes,

Drew

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Documentation Template

2018-12-10 Thread Dave Barton
Thanks for the quick response.

Yep! Anchors were originally the "/bone of contention/", but we now have
consensus on the final "/Figure/" image anchor being to paragraph.

I Explored numerous ways that a new contributor might try to add
"/Figures/" in a document revision and this 7 step instruction seemed to
be the the most reliable method of producing some kind of standard, even
if it is somewhat laborious. I would be delighted if someone comes
forward with a better/simpler solution that I have overlooked.

Wednesday is fine, I want to give as many folks as possible a chance to
give feedback.

Cheers
Dave

[libreoffice-documentation] Sending a path to the help submodule.

2018-12-10 Thread Sabri ÜNAL

Hi,

I have found some "Format - Alignment" path/sentences on the Help documents.

According to UI, "Format - Align" is the true path for it. I have
prepared a patch. How can I send my patches to the Help documents?

Is there any documentation for it? Can I send my changes via logerrit as
usual?

[libreoffice-documentation] Kindle support for Guides sold via Amazon?

2018-12-10 Thread Drew Jensen
Howdy and good Monday morning to you all;

So today I found myself on the Amazon site looking at what is offered for
LibreOffice documentation and noticed that some of the third party books
offered a kindle version in addition to the hard copy book offering.

It did not appear this was the case for the TDF Guides.

I would think it worth doing what it takes, since we already generate pdf
and epub formatted files anyway, to make that happen. For those who would
make use of the device I am sure they would also be happy to pay a small
fee for the format and every little bit for the foundation helps.

Just a thought.

Best wishes,

Drew

@Cor I didn't know if Olivier had added you to the group or nor, and I've
never invited anyone directly before from within the NC UI. Just in case
Olivier hasn't though, and assuming this works as I think it does, doing so
just now should give you the access you need here.

Hope that helps,

[libreoffice-documentation] Update to Guide Contributor document

2018-12-10 Thread Drew Jensen
Howdy,

The last meeting we touched on updating the Contributor guide to start
referencing TDF NC vs ODFAuthors website.

Towards that end did some simple find and replace on the document and
uploaded a copy, found in the same folder and named 2 - Producing LO Guides
(2).odt. (for those with access to the workgroup folder the direct link is
https://nextcloud.documentfoundation.org/f/88184)

In addition I moved a copy of the Liberation font archive from the
ODFAuthors site to the TDF NC server and created a public, read only, link
to that file for use in the updated document URL for same.

Also changed the URL in the document for the Guide Template to point to, a
newly created read only link, the temp latest file on the NC server.
(realizing this will need to be changed when the template is finalized).

Just to let you know.

Best wishes

Drew
