[Dx4win] IC910H
Hi all, just about to purchase DX4WIN V6.02, I see I can use two radios. Main radio is IC756Pro 11, second rig is IC910H. I cannot see IC910H in list of radios, any ideas as to how to configure this?? [Dx4win] Lost everything
Here is a big problem for me but a small one for some. My DX4Win crashed and I lost my log. Not a big deal as I only had 380 some contacts logged. What I did was went in and reentered all of the cards that I have. I did loose all the contacts that were not confirmed but that just makes me have to go get them again. Again, no big deal. However, I had submitted cards for my 1st DXCC and now I can't tell which ones those are. I have my log from when I submitted the cards but I would like to be able to have this show on my DX4WIN log so I know when I am ready to submit again. Any way to rectify this problem? I suppose I could go in and start a new file and reenter the DXCC cards and then submit. Then reenter all the rest. But I was hoping for an easier solution. Thanks for the help in advance. Alan, and everybody else. I can recommend you to upgrade your system to WIN2K, I am running it here and it works great together with DX4WIN, BUT! You can not use the Parallel port (LPT) for CW with your transceiver. I have a MarkV here which I computer control via COM1, I have built a simple interface for doing CW on the same cable as computer control. Otherwise DX4WIN is running smoothly on all my computers. Actually I would recommend you jump to XP (either home or pro). I also work in the industry and Win2K is over 4 years in terms of design, etc. (a life time in this industry). XP has been much more stable than Win2K and certainly much more efficient. I have installed it on very important users without one complaint (my mother-in-law, etc.) :) My 2 cents worth.. [Dx4win] FrontPage help (OT)
Any FrontPage experts reading this? I'm having strange problems with the dx4win website and have no idea how to get around it. The changes history (changes2.htm) should have 'buttons' below the text to all the different versions (like version602.htm) They show nicely on my computer, but do not show up on the website. I have 'recalculated hyperlinks' more often than I can remember but it makes no difference. I also deleted the original page, created this new one (that's why it became changes2) wrote all files, not just the ones that changed etc. I'm stuck! Any ideas? [Dx4win] Lost everything
Hi Mark, Sorry for your loss. I have over 65K QSOs in my logbook, but I tend to back it up in several places (more later). I have never lost my entire logbook due to a problem with DX4WIN. In any event, since you said, I have my log from when I submitted the cards... you are well on your way. I assume you mean a hard copy. In the logging window, hit F5 a few times to reveal the award flags at the bottom. From your printed records, search for each QSO and mark it as Checked in the correct DXCC award flag box (mixed, mode or band) and save the QSO (F10). This will reconstruct your DXCC award records. From there, a new DXCC submission will ignore these QSOs and submit only the new ones. In terms of backup... First, in your preferences, make sure you are backing up your log at regular intervals. I think the default is 10 minutes, but I prefer 2 minutes. I never walk away from the shack if the red backup timer is counting down. I use ALT-B to backup or ALT-S to save the log. What if you lose power before the log is written to disk? I also have Cycle Logs checked in my preferences - this makes extra backups when DX4WIN overwrites a file. I use a software product from Iomega called Automatic Backup. This will write any file(s) you want to another disk whenever one of those files changes. Silently, automatically, in the background. Mine is setup to back up my entire DX4W602 directory. I also have a battery back up UPS that keeps the computer going if power goes out. Finally, I copy my log file over the network to my home office PC every week or so. Mostly for record keeping, but it's just another place my log will be in case some disaster happens. 73 - Jim AD1C --- [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Here is a big problem for me but a small one for some. I am sure you are aware that DX4WIN keeps the last copy of a log with your log name.~xl, so loss of a log is normally not possible regardless of what happens. Simply keeping a copy of your save directory, zipped or unzipped takes only a second and my log is over 15,000 contacts and zipped will fit on a floppy. A simple ctrl c and ctrl v on the logfile and .cty file will always save a copy of your log using windows explorer. Sorry you did not know all of this before. The other files in the save directory should also be saved, particularily the .cty file. For only a few hundred contacts, you can right click the log window and print the entire log on paper in landscape on 4 or 5 pages. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, February 04, 2003 5:55 AM To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] Lost everything
[Dx4win] DX4WIN 6..01/6.02 Satellite QSOs
Don, it's a conversion problem from Version 5 to Version 6. I don't know the issues surrounding adding SAT QSOs in real time. I believe there is only one SAT band for logging these QSOs, you would have to put the sat mode in the Notes for this QSO field. 73 - Jim AD1C --- Don Roland [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: What if you were using Moke K with 10 Meters as the downlink band? = Jim Reisert AD1C, 7 Charlemont Court, North Chelmsford, MA 01863 USA +978-251-9933, [EMAIL PROTECTED], http://www.ad1c.com PGP Fingerprint: D8E2 3D78 339F A7F1 8C13 1193 B5D1 4FB6 79D1 70DC

Just playing around with this a bit more. I noticed that you can set the Satellite field to any combination regardless of what you have selected in the Band field. For example, I can save QSOs that have a 'Band' of 80 meters, and a 'Satellite' setting of 144/435. Does this make sense? Shouldn't the Satellite field be disabled when the Band is set to anything other than SAT? Just curious. -- Darrell Darrell Earnshaw wrote: Don, That seems to be the case with 602 as well. [Dx4win] IMPORTANT: Country file maintenance
Paul has offered to let me take over maintenance of the DX4WIN country file database (DX4WIN.CTY). Actually, I volunteered. As some of you may know, I have been maintaining the prefix files for CT/NA/TR/Writelog since 1994 (maybe earlier). So I have a lot of experience in this area. For your information, the DX4WIN.CTY file contains a number of databases: - country - prefix to country - callsign to country - US state - US county - IOTA - QSL managers For the time being, I am concentrating just on the Callsign to Country mapping. ON4AOI has done an excellent job of maintaining the IOTA database, and I hope he will continue. The QSL manager database is a large can of worms, but I may get to it one day. The other databases don't change very often. One other change I plan to make is to use the official ARRL DXCC country prefixes. This should make the DX4WIN country listing match the order of the listing that the ARRL DXCC computer sends you. This will make cross-checking data a little easier. This should not adversely affect anyone other than seeing a different primary prefix for some countries (like Vietnam, Franz Josef Land, Antarctica, etc.). Here's how you can can help me -- I'd like to merge everyone's callsign exceptions into one master database and then release the new DX4WIN.CTY file. There are several ways we can accomplish this. The best way is to use the form on the DX4WIN web page for entering exceptions that are not in the default database: http://www.dx4win.com/Callsign_exceptions.htm The next best way is to merge your country database from 5.03 into 6.0x. Close your log, go to File - Databases - Countries, then select the Merge option from the menu, and point to the DX4WIN.CTY file in your 5.03 installation. When you merge the callsign exceptions, they will be listed in a window. Cut/paste the contents of this window and either enter the exceptions into the web form above, or E-mail them to me (not the reflector). The last way is just to attach your DX4WIN.CTY file to a mail message (to me, not the reflector). This is more work for me, however, since I have to extract all the data, and figure out which exceptions are unique. The more data I get, the better the database will be. I expect to have a new release in about a week, depending on how many responses I get. When finished, I will include instructions for merging the update, as well as checking your DXCC totals. My hope is that you will not LOSE any DXCC counters, but rather may pick up one or more. [Dx4win] DX4WIN 6..01/6.02 Satellite QSOs
I reported this to Paul back in June of 1999 on version 4.04. Paul had the field set to sticky at the request of users who forget to set the field again when making additional SAT entries. This is fine but I requested that the field be when the band was changed away from SAT. This would satisfy both camps. Don -VE1AOE- I noticed that you can set the Satellite field to any combination regardless of what you have selected in the Band field. For example, I can save QSOs that have a 'Band' of 80 meters, and a 'Satellite' setting of 144/435. Does this make sense? Agreed. But, if the combination is illegal in all cases, then perhaps it's something that should be protected against in the next version (or whenever). The more the software protects against invalid operations, the less the users can inadvertently screw up and complain (hopefully). -- Darrell Mel Martin wrote: Just because you can doesn't mean you should... to what length must one go to protect people from themselves ;-) - Original Message - From: Darrell Earnshaw [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Sent: Tuesday, February 04, 2003 13:34 Subject: Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN 6..01/6.02 Satellite QSOs Just playing around with this a bit more. Bummmer, but as stated by others, all should NOT be lost. There should be a .~xl and/or .dxl file in there somewhere. I wrote a little script that I use at the end of every day that backs up all my data files on to a zip disk from Palm, Quicken, DX4WIN and others. I run it from the Start Menu. One could also run it from a chron job so it's automatic. BTW, I know lots of you like XP but IMHO it is a very invasive program and I personally don't care for that. Same reason I don't use IE or any of that ilk. Just 'cause it's newer is not a reason to change. I have found win2k pro a very stable platform.
