[Elecraft] Mac 10.8.5 KAT500 Utility connection via KXUSB FTDI is inop
KAT500 Utility on my Mac mini does not connect from the Mac to KAT500. When I fire up the Utility, it stays in Initializing state until the connection attempt times out. This is repeatable. I'm pretty sure the FTDI driver itself is OK as I refreshed the P3 firmware using a separate KXUSB via FTDI to the same Mac via virtual port …A400THz. No problem there. The KXUSB via FTDI KXUSB for the KAT500 should be using a second virtual port ….A900I9J as there's a separate KXUSB cable for the KAT500, but will not connect. The names of the virtual ports' names were determined via the System Profile tool. I've swapped in a third known-good KXUSB cable with the same failure to connect. The KAT500 has successfully connected to a Window 7 PC using both KXUSBs. [Elecraft] Elecraft KX3 Clock Accuracy
GM All, The link provided by Don W4FPR is a very good link. It does have some cautions that should be observed. Main one is that if you do not select the Decline button (which appears to be to the eye as 'not enabled, but really is enabled), you could very well download (with your implicit permission) some applications that might be troublesome for you. Nothing bad, but possibly troublesome. May I suggest going directly to the source of the Atomic Clock Sync program at http://www.worldtimeserver.com/ and download the program. I have used this program for many, many years with good results. In the past, I have found that sometimes the Atomic Clock Sync would sometimes stop working (XP days) and would have to be restarted. Today, the program has provisions to repair problems that it encounters. I haven't had to use it since I have downloaded the current program. [Elecraft] K3 Knobs
Everyone, I have a K3 serial number 934. Having read the posts concerning all the problems with the concentric knobs I was concerned about the knobs but they were working fine. Well, several years later, finally the upper small outer knob (audio gain) became loose. After trying to tightening it, it split. This goes to show you ignoring posts can bite you later. Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft Digest, Vol 116, Issue 4
In Theoretical Physics it is common to use what physicists call God Given natural units where constants like C for the speed of light or h-bar are set to 1 (without units). In this system, Power, which is [Energy] divided by [Time], is actually Inverse [Time]-Squared. This is because Energy has the same units as inverse time. Thus, Power can be expressed in Seconds to the minus 2 power. 73, phil, K7PEH On Dec 3, 2013, at 7:49 AM, WILLIAM DAVIS bruceda...@me.com wrote: I always express power in ohms. ;-) Bruce AC8BT On Dec 2, 2013, at 11:30 PM, elecraft-requ...@mailman.qth.net wrote: George, I have doubts about any engineer who expresses power in volts. 73, Don W3FPR __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] K2 / KPA ALC problem.
Chris, Is there any chance you have T4 wound for the better efficiency at 5 watts ratio of 2:2:1:1 turns? If so, be aware that this winding ratio is *only* for a QRP CW only K2. If the KSB2 is added, it must be changed to the standard 2:3:1:1 ratio. With the 'better efficiency at 5 watts mod applied, the efficiency above the 5 watt level becomes very poor, and may generate HiCur messages. It should never be used if the KPA100 is added. 73, Don W3FPR On 12/3/2013 12:14 PM, Chris Kimball wrote: Don, My KSB2 is revision E, July 20, 2004, with the PSK31 ALC time constant change of KI6WX built-in. Re: [Elecraft] KX3 Accuracy of clock
Not sure how all this commentary on computer time applies to the topic title. My KX3 keeps perfect time since I did not buy the battery charger...no clock! My $12 wrist watch has about 1 second/year accuracy. The K3 clock drifts over a week or so, but is easily corrected using the Utility program (on my computer). My computer time is maintained by D4, which is a free download with no tinkering of registry required. Install it, chose a time source and forget it. I use tick.uso.navy.mil and pole it every minute (which is admittedly excessive). For JT65 poling probably every ten minutes or a couple times per hour would be adequate (time needs to be 1 second error; mine never exceeds 0.020 second error). 73, Ed - KL7UW http://www.kl7uw.com dubus...@gmail.com Kits made by KL7UW __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K3 sub receiver no signals
This thread is a bit old, may have been solved. In case it was not, I had a similar problem getting sub Rx to work and it was cockpit error. Try holding *A/B* button to get *BSET*, then look in display at what antenna is selected. If different from MAIN ANT or what you want it to be, push *ANT* button until you get what you want. - 73 de KK7EL Bruce -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/K3-sub-receiver-no-signals-tp7558455p7581394.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] Trouble Scanning (K3)
To simply test SCAN do the following: first push AB then turn VFOB (small knob) clockwise a few turns then push SCAN It should start scanning. The MV REQ error message when you push SCAN is an indication that the higher freq is in VFOA and the lower freq is in VFOB. Even though you said you have it set correctly I would double check: If you want to scan, the top frequency in the display window should be the lesser frequency. 73, Drew AF2Z On Mon, 02 Dec 2013 12:39:09 -0800 (PST), you wrote: I cannot get the K3 scanning function to work properly. I am following the instructions in the K3 manual pg 40 as well as the Fred Cady book pg. 46. I have used both the Elecraft K3 Memory Editor and entered the memories manually, to save the frequencies into the K3 memories. When I press MV, the freqs stored in memory are only being recalled to VFO A but not to VFO B. So when I press Scan, no scan commences. If I program the desired freqs into VFO A VFO B manually, and then press Scan, I get MV REQ in the display window and no scan start. I have put the lower start freq in VFO A and the Stop in VFO B. I have also saved the desired mode with each memory pair. So obviously I am missing something in this process but its not apparent to me in the manual nor could I find in the archives. So what am I missing? 73 Paul kc2nyu __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] KX3 Accuracy of clock
For the very time-obsessed, build and operate your own GPS-controlled NTP time server as described here: http://open.konspyre.org/blog/2012/10/18/raspberry-pi-time-server/ Yes, I admit, I have one of these serving network time here in my shack or laboratory as my 8 year old son calls it. :) At one time it was even worse - I had a GPS-disciplined 10 MHz frequency standard... ;) thanks and 73, ben, kd5byb On 12/3/2013 1:47 PM, Edward R Cole wrote: Not sure how all this commentary on computer time applies to the topic title. [Elecraft] P3 Problem
I am using a P3 with the SVGA option. It is connected to a K3. I find that frequently after transmitting -- particularly calling a DX station in a split-frequency pileup -- the P3 display comes back sluggish or almost frozen for up to 20 seconds or so. Then it returns to providing real-time information. It's almost like the P3 is suffering from data overload, finally processes it, and gets back to normal. This is particularly annoying as one cannot spot where the DX is listening in said pileup because the screen is essentially frozen and does not display stations real-time until it unfreezes. This happens regardless of mode (CW, SSB or RTTY). In RTTY this freeze time also locks up the USB keyboard. The problem does not appear to be RFI related, as I get it regardless of the power output level. Any idea what's going on?
