[Elecraft] e-mail spam increase
Hi everyone! I've been observing an interesting trend: whenever i post on here or reply - i get a very noticeable increase of the number of messages in my Junk folder. Normally its 2 or 3 a day, but after posting on an e-mail list (which is a g*d send for mail-scraping robots) - its 20 or 30 a day. If i stop posting for a few days - it goes back to 2 to 3... Re: [Elecraft] OT 4M
Yeah, that was SUPOSSED to happen, but in true guvmint fashion, it didn't quite work out that way. (Where have we seen THAT before?) There's still a LOT of analog low-band TV, so the chances of a 4M ham band over here in the colonies, is just about dead. The 72/75 MHz RC band is limited to very low power, (100 mW ???) so I doubt if similar limitations would be of much use for communications 73, Charlie k3ICH - Original Message - From: MontyS mon...@mindspring.com To: Joe Subich, W4TV li...@subich.com; elecraft@mailman.qth.net Elecraft@mailman.qth.net Sent: Wednesday, May 21, 2014 6:29 AM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] OT 4M Joe, I thought all the analog TV channels were de-allocated when we went all digital. [Elecraft] K3/10 with a KXPA100
Greetings, I have a silly question (I guess the silliest one is the one not asked, though...) I'm planning on starting with a KX3, and then adding in the KXPA100 and KXAT100 at a later date. If I already have the KXPA100 and KXAT100 and I decide to get a K3/10 later down the line, can I drive the KXPA100 from the K3? My brain is saying yes, it would just be a matter of the right cables hooked to the right spots to do so, but there is nothing in either manual about doing such a thing. Just curious, because if I can, it will help my long range plans... [Elecraft] VE7FMN Heatsink Works!
I received my PAE-Kx31 heatsink from Fred VE7FMN (fsme...@telus.net) yesterday. This morning over morning coffee, I installed the heatsink. I removed one top plate and replaced it with the heatsink. Very easy to do. I have been operating JT65-HF with the KX3 the last few weeks. Prior to installation running JT65-HF at 10w, the KX3 would give me a high temp warning and adjust power to 5w about 3/4's the way through the transmission. In fact, most times going over 6+ watts would result in a high-temp warning and throttle back. Using the Mom's old standard of checking the forehead of the child to see if the child was running a temperature, the KX3 was very warm to hot to touch on top during this operation. This morning, after installing the heatsink, the KX3 stayed at 10w during the full transmission of JT65-HF contacts and never gave me a high temperature warning. In addition, the little one did not feel like it was even warm to touch. I operated JT-65 in the normal operating mode of TX/RX for close to an hour with no issues. Thanks Fred! I can use the KX3 to drive my Heathkit SB-200 to 100+w using just 10w input if I want. I actually spoke to Fred over at Dayton. He was right next to the Elecraft folks. Threw some ideas around maybe making a rigid unit that would include a PX3, so that the two would feel like one unit. Would probably be a good idea for mobile/field day type of operation. Very nice gentleman and very passionate about what he does. It is an issue that is pretty far down the priority list for the FCC or the ARRL though, so it will be a while. - DUffey KK6MC -- KK6MC James Duffey Cedar Crest NM __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to li...@subich.com __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to mon...@mindspring.com __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

The KXPA100 can be driven from most any QRP rig, so the answer is definitely 'Yes'. Right now there is not a cable to fully integrate the K3 and the KXPA100, but my guess is that there may be in the future. [Elecraft] KAT500/K3 VFO tracking
Hi all, At Dayton I spoke to a few KAT500 owners who were not aware of the latest KAT500-related firmware change to the K3, so I thought I'd mention it again. The new VFO tracking feature allows the KAT500's L-network to be updated as you tune the K3's VFO. We handle this through the control cable (the auxBus line, specifically). This feature is in the current K3 production firmware release, rev. 4.83. 73, Wayne N6KR __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

There's still a LOT of analog low-band TV, so the chances of a 4M ham band over here in the colonies, is just about dead. You misunderstand the current situation, as well as the plan for the analog to digital transition. This was NOT a guvmint screwup. First, most non-commercial stations were allowed to opt out and stay with analog if they wanted to do so. Those are the analog stations that are still there. Second, the channels that were PLANNED to be abandoned by TV and auctioned off are the high UHF channels, not VHF. Third, during the transition period, many digital stations were assigned to low band VHF channels (2-6), and they experienced lots of interference from impulse noise sources. AT THEIR REQUEST, stations assigned these channels AFTER the transition were permitted to request a higher channel (7 and above), and most low band VHF stations did so. There are a handful of digital stations around the country on each of those low-band channels, and they CHOSE to stick with their allocation there. Fourth, digital TV operates in the same spectrum, and even in the same 6MHz wide channel layout as analog TV, but which station is now and was during the transition was carefully set up so that during the transition period, their viewers had a choice of either the analog or digital transmitter, which were on different channels. Fifth, with so few stations using low-band VHF (2-6)now, there is plenty of that spectrum available, and it would be easy to move those stations that want to stay on low-band VHF off of one or more of those channels so that other services could use it. I'm sure that there are others services beside ham radio that would like some of this spectrum, and once item #3 above had been realized, those services have been jockeying for position. Sixth, many DTV stations are using an RF channel different from their original analog allocation, but the channel that appears on the screen is their original analog channel. For example, WGN-TV in Chicago has a half-century long identity as Channel 9 that they still maintain, even though they are transmitting on channel 19. It's easy to search the FCC database of licensed broadcast stations using the link below. A quick search shows five full power DTV stations on Channel 2, six on Channel 3, three on Channel 4. There are considerably more on channels 5 and 6.(76-88 MHz). In addition to these are some low power translators, and some low power analog and digital stations. http://www.fcc.gov/encyclopedia/tv-query-broadcast-station-search 73, Jim K9YC __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

[Elecraft] Dayton summary
Hi all, I appreciate meeting everyone who stopped by the QRPworks booth to talk with me, Steve and Shel! It was quite a busy show from a floor traffic perspective. It was also quite a show from a cell phone system perspective: the cell service was very intermittent (at least ATT was) which wreaked havoc with my ability to process and annotate PayPal payments from customers. This leads me to my main reason for posting today: Everyone who ordered a Kx31 Heatsink Kit after we sold out, please contact me with their current status if you have not received an email from me confirming shipment. Credit card companies will not reveal their customer info to PayPal, and since some transactions aborted due to cell dropouts, I need to make sure everyone's order is correctly processed ASAP. [Elecraft] K2 led backlight assmbly
Some time ago, I had a K1 that needed a repair, including the backlight. Instead of ordering a part from Elecraft, I was able to use two sub-mini yellow LEDs that I had, and positioned them so they illuminated the edge of the original diffuser. The same technique could be applied to the K2. I have since sold that K1 along. So... While there isn't a specific control cable, the K3/10 does have the ability to set KXPA100 drive level per-band. Nearly all amplifiers have some gain variation from one band to the next, and this allows you to adjust drive for consistent power output. Refer to the PWR SET menu entry (CONFIG menu on the K3). Many programs manipulate the Windoze mixer, and sometimes fail to put controls back where they found them. The N1MM Logger is notorious for doing that. 2) If you have more than one sound card, the wrong one may be selected. 3) The Line Input gain may be too low, and/or the VOX Gain may be too low. Re: [Elecraft] N1MM and keying KX3. What happens to the slashes //
Joe, Since the call is both sent and logged without the /, I would believe it is some condition in N1MM causing that behavior, and has nothing to do with the KX3. Check the N1MM documentation (or ask on the N1MM forum) to see if the / character is used as an escape character. If it is, then entering two of them would be necessary to actually send and log the '/'. 73, Don W3FPR On 5/21/2014 3:05 PM, Hans J Rasmusen OZ7BQ wrote: Group, Have been using the KXUSB cable to key my KX3 from the N1MM logger with the KY commands. I have an SPE 1K-FA and my K3 switches bands with no mods, just a cord. The band data is available on the 15 pin D Shell connector on the back. My TS-480SAT has some issues but does most of the functions. I don't know, but suspect that the 1.3K works like the 1K. Re: [Elecraft] Amperage for the KX3 when using an external power supply
From the specs in back of manual (p. 52): 8 V min, 15 V max. 1 to 2 A typical in transmit; 150 mA minimum receive, typical (backlight off, preamp off, no signal) I'd use a 2-3 A, 13.8 VDC supply.
