cool... a boat landing at the Congaree river..  but there were pump up boats
going out with dogs and the like to visit vegetation islands in the river..
I just stayed on shore because my back and small boats do not do well

Here is a quick video operating my KX2 from a tiny island feeding a 20m end fed
half wave (64:1 transformer and 32ft of wire) hanging from a 33ft fiberglass
mast. The island is in Huntington Lake, CA in the Sierra mtns above Fresno.
Still pics can be grabbed from the video and near the end of the video I'm

there is a problem.
Well, lightning finds it a LOT.. and causes a whole bunch of HOT in one spot

least used to.
no idea if the ZOT! on the steel wire damaged equipment at either end.. but it

Maybe it was something with the setup.

That's an understatement.

Running kilowatt-level power on the same band to two antennas only 20
feet apart is simply crazy.  I don't know what input protection the
KX3's have, but they almost certainly kicked in and being inherently
non-linear they would have generated all sorts of high level trash on
the front end.  It would be interesting to see the math, but I think
you're lucky you didn't blow the heck out of both front ends in spite of
the protection.

The K3 is more complicated and has more options. The KX3 has four internal
options — charger/clock, ATU, roofing filters, and 2m module. The K3 has far
more than that. Also, the K3 is commonly used in complex base stations, with
multiple antennas, external power amplifiers, and so on.

So, more discussion about the K3 is normal.

At this point, I think Elecraft has sold about the same number of K3’s and
KX3’s.

Finally, it is common practice on this list to sign e-mails with your call sign.

Re: [Elecraft] My KX3 desk microphone project

2015-01-25 Thread Bill Blomgren (kk4qdz) via Elecraft
When it comes to microphones, you get into religious wars.  I happen to like
doing live recording work with a stereo ribbon mike that has the capsules
basically touching vertically.  (Open sound, natural sound field.)
A single point pickup results in a 'coherent' recording.  The sound is in phase
at that one point in space
Add additional capsules, and you end up with multiple unknowns on 2 equations.
(the 3 point omni decca thing for example.) Simply using a pair of mikes in
front of a group gets the cleanest stereo recording.. or a single mike to get a
mono recording.
Same thing applies on broadcasting.  (That is why they use noise gates to turn
off idle mikes...so that the pickup of the guy talking isn't added in and
cancel him out.)

Why? If an idea is seriously misguided, saying so is entirely
appropriate. I did not expand on the advice because this is an email
reflector dedicated to Elecraft radios, not microphones.

There are (at least) three reasons why an array of microphones is a
really bad idea. First, really good sounding mics to work with our
radios are widely available cheap. Second, a microphone is an
electroacoustic device -- it collects sound at a point in space and
converts it to voltage. A microphone at a different point in space
collects different sound -- there is a difference in time between those
sounds, which results in a difference in phase. The difference in phase
results in peaks and dips in the frequency response, which in the audio
world is called comb filtering. Third, one mic loads another
electrically, degrading the performance of each.

Third, those of us working in pro audio learned a long time ago that one
mic feeding a single channel is always better than one for picking up a
single sound source like the human voice. Putting more of them in
parallel does not make them work better.

When you see two mics on either side of a podium, it's an indication
that whoever put them there didn't understand that. As the talker moves
side to side, the sound of his/her voice changes due to the
cancellation. Almost 40 years ago, I did a couple of big outdoor sound
reinforcement gigs for the President, and the White House sound
engineers DID understand that -- they studied at the same workshops that
I did. They had Shure build a special mic for them with three capsules
in it, each coming out on their own shielded twisted pair. Two went to
me, the second was for redundancy -- in case wiring for the first one
failed. Each went to a different input of my mix console. The third went
to them for their recording.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 Questions

2014-11-04 Thread Bill Blomgren (kk4qdz) via Elecraft

The 4 meter module is not usable in the USA.. the 2 meter gets you an all-mode
2 meter transverter. That plus an external amp gets you side band on 2 meters,
cw and so on if you want more than 2 or 3 watts.

4 meters is in the middle of a VHF TV band here in the states, and the FCC has
no plans to allow operations in that span, since there are active TV stations
there.

Larry, I assembled a KX3 and it’s companion KXPA100 amp 3 weeks ago, and it is
an outstanding combo. I’m replacing a Kenwood TS-480HX (an outstanding device
also) which I ran with an Ameritron ALS-600S 600-watt linear. With some
balancing and shielding I will be able to run the KX3 + KXPA100 into the 600
watt linear. So, I have my super compact QRP radio that I can put in my back
pack and sit on a lawn chair with a Buddy Pole on top of a mountain, or the
high power base station on my desk at home with the mini-beam. Cake and eat it
too. The KXP3 pan adapter for the KX3 arrives today — my weekend project.
I’ll suggest the roofing filter especially for CW. Did not get an antenna tuner
for either the KX3 or KXPA100, but might reconsider that later, since I have an
auto-tuner for the big linear. Had no interest in using the KX3 on 2M and
actually for the cost, you could probably find a very nice 2M rig.
Assembly suggestion: they provide you with a lot of little teeny tiny screws.
Get a cupcake pan or ice cube tray and separate all the parts and label them.
Very difficult to tell a 5/32 screw from a 1/4. Tweezers help. And the customer
support is extraordinary.

Hi All,

I like to haunt the bargain and close-out websites. This item showed up
on Rakuten's website (formerly Buy.com). A 30 amp solar charger for about
$20.00! Here's a link:

http://patazon.shop.rakuten.com/p/patazon-30a-solar-panel-power-battery-charge-controller-regulator-12v/264381220.html?scid=em_Promotional_20140909DAILYadid=17653

I'm not familiar with the product, but it seems to be something that could
be useful for those of us who like/want to do solar panel charging from time
to time.

I have a couple of different sets of solar panels--one set I keep in my
motorhome, and the other is at home. Since I only have one controller, this
might be a good opportunity to eliminate the need for carrying the one
controller back and forth. I'm curious, though, if anyone else has ever
seen/used this particular controller, or one from the same manufacturer.

More and more I hear about others who have gone to solar charging, and I
have lots of opportunities to do the same. Dry camping is something I do a
good bit of, and keeping the rigs running on battery power usually means
needing a generator along. If I'm running QRP it isn't a big deal, but if I
want to run a bit higher power, then battery consumption gets to be an
issue.

Anyway, I thought I'd pass this on in case anyone else might find it to be
of interest.

Re: [Elecraft] Headphones and extension cable - leave plugged in?

2014-07-20 Thread Bill Blomgren (kk4qdz) via Elecraft
In the broadcast stations I worked at over the year, the audio patch panels had
a lot of activity.. but there were basic ground rules to make sure something
'bad' didn't happen in the middle of a live show..

1) you plug and unplug the connection 2-3 times before leaving the cable
hanging. (Periodically they got cleaned and lubed, but the connections will
oxydize over time

2) you always test the connection with the studio so that you don't have a
surprise.

With video cables, it was not as common to have issues, because there was
always a plug in the connections for the 'normal' feed. (Video didn't use the
contacts in the patch bay to provide the 'normal' connections.

There were some audio cables that were left in place for months in some cases..
Periodically they would get the same reseat action to make sure that there
was no problem. (Example: control room reconstruction.)

The sheer volume of contacts and cables in that environment makes replacement
difficult to impossible (well, until the switch to HD, which meant everything
had to change..)

 IMHO, the trouble of
removing the plug and plugging it back in is not
worth the cost of a replacement cable.  I
suspect it has worked fine for
 several
years.  If not, look for a better quality cable.

In case the problem is caused by contact oxidation, removing the plug
and re-inserting it several times should wipe the contact area
and restore it to normal operation.

2014-07-18 Thread Bill Blomgren (kk4qdz) via Elecraft
I'm thinking homebrew 4 element cubical quad.  Can feed either on the side for
vertical polarization, or bottom for horizontal...  Cheap to build, light
weight.  Will work on almost any small rotor, no problems with wind load, and
small enough to hide...

Very cool!  This brings up the question of what antennas folks are planning to
use with the 2m/4m modules.  I am anxiously awaiting my 2m module and can make
use of the waiting time to read up on VHF antennas (I'm not much of a VHF guy).

Both stations were using a dual-band (6 m/4 m) antenna from InnovAntenna,

The ONLY way to isolate the rig is totally unplug the thing: antennas, power

Down in Florida, there are code required surge MOV's in every circuit breaker

Re: [Elecraft] Unhook *ALL* connections before Lightning storm

2014-07-15 Thread Bill Blomgren (kk4qdz) via Elecraft
The question is how long are they?  - Ethernet cables are typically 6-20 feet
long.  A jumper between the rig and amplifier, much shorter.

Length determines how well it acts as an antenna.  The cables I worked with
were perhaps 20-50 feet long, and made good antennas.  Some of the ethernet
cables in my apartment are 50 feet long to feed from one extreme to the other.
(I do video editing and need at least gigabit end to end...)

Telephone cables will be LONG.  Unplug anything connected to dsl or phone lines
in general.

Luckily, the apartment I'm in has underground utilities.. However, that nice
shot of a tower on the ground getting a direct strike was interesting.

It shows that having a few high trees around that are much higher than the
antenna are NOT a reason to not disconnect.

Lightning looks for an interesting way to ground.  Don't encourage it by
leaving lots of paths in the shack available.

Pulling all wires when there is a potential storm threat is totally

Re: [Elecraft] Unhook *ALL* connections before Lightning storm

2014-07-15 Thread Bill Blomgren (kk4qdz) via Elecraft
As a side issue - one of the stations down in tampa ended up off the air for a
week.  A lightning strike melted their heliax and antenna system was destroyed.
The antenna was on the top of a bank building (about 70 stories up.)-- using
the building frame as ground, and then in the ground under the bank building.

The transmitter, luckily, was not destroyed. (significant damage of course)
However depending on where you are, and the strength of the strike... all bets
are off.  One station I helped put on the air (which had -2- layers of copper
plates in the trench between the transmitter shack and the studio with the
trench under ground had the entire rectifier stack in a Collins FM transmitter
melted, assorted other stuff there... the lightning then hopped into the trench
(on the ground) - and destroyed all the monitoring gear in the rack where it
terminated.

.Of course, that is Florida, where lightning tends to be 2-5 times stronger
than other spots in the country.

The alternative to disconnecting everything is to design your ham
station to tolerate lightning events.
There was a very good 3 part series in QST for June, July and August of
2002 that dealt with the design of a station for lightning protection.
Those articles are available at
http://www.arrl.org/lightning-protection. I highly recommend it.

Some of the ground rules given in the article:
All towers and masts grounded with buried radial wires and ground rods
to spread the impact of a strike over a large area of the earth.
Perimeter ground wires around any building with a driven ground rod at
each place the wire changes direction. (lightning likes to travel in a
straight line).
Bring all services into the ham shack through a common grounded copper
panel fitted with suppression devices - that includes feedlines, power,
CAT5 cables, phone cables, and everything else.
Keep any equipment or devices that are not powered/connected through the
above panel out of reach of the operating position.

There is no guarantee that the above steps will eliminate failures due
to lightning, but it will go a long way toward achieving that goal.  The
real goal is to keep *everything* in the shack at the same potential
during a lightning event.

I have attempted to use those guidelines in the construction of my shack
and antenna field.  All my feedlines are automatically grounded when the
station is turned off, and I do not attempt to operate when there is
lightning nearby - and I get stay out of the shack during storms.
We had a lightning event here last year that took out the Ethernet
router, several switches, 3 computers and 2 network attached printers.
None of the ham gear was damaged.

Those look exactly like what we had 3 of in the circuit breaker cabinet in the
house and condo in St Pete.  A really direct hit will blow them up, but
hopefully after they have sunk most of the energy.  One big snap, and they are
done.

Then again, there are more joules in a lightning strike there than they can
handle. Lets face it.. the Lightning lab that was set up north of Daytona had
6-10 foot long glass sculptures under the tower they put up there... Anything
that can turn that much sand molten is more energy than a MOV can manage to
make go away easily... Rather stunning forms in various colors in the 'brown'
areas of the spectrum... You can see how the lightning bolt spread after
getting into the sand.

There is some protection to AC surges, look here:

http://www.deltasurgeprotectors.com/products.cfm?sortit=1Category=Lightning%20Arrestors

I have one on my service entrance.  Does it work?  I can't prove that, but
anecdotal evidence seems to indicate it does.  Some years ago a direct hit on a
house in the next block caused a fire.  I know of a TV and a control board in a
dish washer that were fried, one next store and another across the street.
There may have been more that I'm unaware of. I'd like to think it worked here
though.

It boils down to risk assessment too.  That is a personal decision. I've got 50
years of motorcycling and know others that would never get on one because they
are so dangerous.

Sticking to 6 meters, you might have a chance.  Antennas will be over a meter
tall, and a ground plane will be a problem.

That said, my experiences with 11 meters was 'iffy' --- even with a huge
antenna on a large spring.  (Having to ride through a florida thunderstorm, you
really don't want a pointy metalic object trying to attract millions of volts
and hundreds of thousands of amps, so in rain in Fla, the antenna was bent over
under my arm and hooked under a hook on the motor guards to keep it out of the
way of lightning...)

Then again, that was back in the dark ages of the first year of the 'wing, when
it was a 1000 cc 4 cyl, and had no reverse or wet bar

Well, there is no reply all, just reply, and I am replying to the mailing
list, so I don't know what else I can do.

And yes, it is going to require an investment for everyone to go to 6m.
But... the serious HAMs that have helped provide this solution already run
6m, and the cost is rather incremental if you are riding a $30K Goldwing,
K1600 or HD bike.
Even on my F700GS, we are talking my cost in tires every year to buy this
radio and a 6Db antenna.

So, please, don't add limitations I have not stated.

Now, someone stated somewhere that 6m is hard to keep attenuated, and that
might be a deal killer. Maybe 10w vas 5w is not worth the gain. Maybe 25w is
the floor.

Again, with all the praise for this unit, it seems odd it is such a wall
flower. *shrug*

When I talked to the techs at the office, they seemed to think it would be
ok, but then they are selling it, they are not going to say it can't do the
job unless it is going to damage their rep if it breaks.

Considering the almost 100% against, I think most people's reaction to a
bad review if it failed on a MC would be dumbass

Re: [Elecraft] OT: application of directional Quad in UHF

2014-04-05 Thread Bill Blomgren (kk4qdz)
A friend (who is a mechanic at heart) threw together a 4 element quad for 2
meters, along with a moxon for 2 meter sat work.  The feed for the 4 element
quad is *straight* coax.  To an ugly balun below the antenna.. It feeds at 50
ohm rather nicely. And easy to build.  (Spreaders are just fiberglass driveway
markers...wire simple 12 gauge wire. It has survived 3 ice storms, and a near
miss by a tornado.

Superb directionality and all that.  About a 3-4' long piece of pvc for the
central beam that holds everything.  Portable. And lots of gain.

The moxon gets used with his hand held for sat comm work.  In front of the
moxon, a 5 or 6 element yagi for 440.

Next experiment for him? I've heard he is working on a quagi.  That is a quad
reflector, quad driven element.. then a boat load of directors made up of
copper wire on a piece of light wood.  More gain than a 6 element quad... and
lighter.

Johnny...
I have no experience with UHF quads, but I modeled, used and modified an
HF quad for over 15 years. I now use a SkyHawk HF triband yagi. Based on
that experience, quads require more mechanical effort for construction
and maintenance. The form factor for a yagi is two-dimensional, while
for a quad it is three-dimensional. Thus, packing, storage and transport
is potentially simpler for the yagi than for the quad. Feeding a yagi is
simpler than for a quad, because the yagi can use a solid driven
element, while the quad generally requires a break in the driven
element; this can complicate construction. Adding elements to a yagi
antenna is mechanically simpler than adding elements to a quad. So,
based on my HF experience - and thinking about UHF quads - I think
mechanical issues might be a significant difference. At UHF a 4/5
element yagi might be easier to deal with than a 3-el quad. My opinion.

than a 3 element yagi.  However, I seldom see using directional Quad
 in the UHF repeaters.

Apart from performance, are there any disdvantages (or advantages) of
using directional quad instead of yagi in UHF repeaters?  Could you
share with me your experience in US?

Thanks for your help in advance and please reply off-the-list to
reduce the traffic in the mail listing (oh, yes, not forum!!)

[Elecraft] Snap crackle and pop

2014-02-25 Thread Bill Blomgren (kk4qdz)
You may want to use a divide and conquer operation.

Test on the local lan... plugged into ethernet locally.  If everything is clean
there, it is outside the K3 and the local lan.

Lots of ISPs tend to throttle users of bandwidth that they consider excessive
- Time warner runs ALL the traffic on HTTP to You Tube, and cuts it back to
almost dial up speed. They have a proxy server array that they run it through.
You Tube decided to go to HTTPS because you can't proxy that without breaking
the certificate chain.

The only way to get decent performance here is use the SSL connections.  (I do
a lot of video for non profits...and see the terrible results at the tube...

They also like to drop packets from time to time when routers get saturated.
At one point, one of the metro area rings was dropping 40-50% of the packets
going into it.  (MAE west and MAE east were both grossly overloaded for many
months, with the result there was a lot of traffic that went in the black hole.
(They have since upgraded, and I have not done any testing in the last 9
years.)

Try it on local lan.. then on local (neighborhood) network.. see where it
breaks.

I think Chris summarizes the issue pretty good.

Gary, it kind sounds like you have not taken the time necessary to
really get familiar with your K3 (excuse me if this is incorrect).  I
found it took me about three weeks of playing and reading the manual
until I became fairly comfortable with using the features (only
some, not all) of the K3.  The Fred Caty manual had not been written
so this was a little more difficult on some topics and features, but
I figured them out with a little time tinkering and reading.  This
list is a great resource of knowledge, too!

The K3 does require more time to become versed in its abilities and
that can try one's patience if just wanting to plug n play.  I
bought my K3/10 as a kit so had that process before even turning it on.

So take it out of the box and connect an antenna, with hopefully
Fred's manual at hand, just step thru the pages of the manual and try
some of the stuff he writes.  Great way to get more familiar with the
radio.  You might want to skip some chapters if not particular to
your interests.  Give the radio some time and do compare it on the
air with the TS-590.  I haven't had my hands on the TS-590 but I
suspect you will develop an appreciation for the K3.

When I chose the K3 it was after several years of studying the
literature and comments.  I came from having a TS-180 in 1980, TenTec
505 Argonaut, TS-50, FT-840 (liked that one), and FT-847 (great
VHF/UHF but disappointing on HF).  I also acquired the FT-817 when it came out.

Being active in eme on VHF+, I needed a good CW radio and a
transverter friendly radio and that brought me to the K3/10.  The
fact that is a SDR means I do not have to shell out more money every
2-3 years for the latest advances in radio technology (so far this
has been true).  I sold my FT-847 to raise cash for a 222 and 432
transverter and finally sold the FT-817 in favor of the KX3.  With
addition of the 2M module the KX3 will have pretty much replaced what
I used with the FT-817.

To purchase my K3 I had to promise my wife that this would be the
last big ham purchase in my life as we entered retirement (and
reduced income).  Yeah, I lied, but she understands
(thankfully).  But I can say the K3 is fulfilling that promise since
buying it four years ago.  Elecraft is unique in providing equipment
support and upgrades (via firmware).  And upgrading is purely
voluntary on your part, so you do not have to if not interested.

Finally, there is a lot of new stuff going on in ham radio if you
look, so if the same old stuff' has gotten boring, take a look at
some of the digital modes, soundcard programs, come up to VHF/mw or
down to MW and LF.  Try building some stuff - can be fun!  Get out of
the house and go portable/mobile.  You get the idea.

Gary, come back in a few weeks and tells how it goes!

Gary,

Take time out, study the manual learn to embrace the modern features and
play, play and play some more
to learn your way around. You have taken the tests, passed the exams etc so
practice what has been preached.

Get rid of the big rice box, keep the TS590s (best value on the ham market
today) for back up or field day.

Then just fall in love with your K3 - simples.

This last Sunday, I think Netcontrol didn't come down anywhere near me.  (The
Raleigh NC area)

Just a few hz away there was the marine net on 14.300 that was booming in from
Texas. - NO problem hearing them.. but 14.3035? Nope. Nothing.

There was traffic up at 14.305 something.. so I know the antenna was working..
just not catching Atanta...(I was probably where he was hitting the

N7SP etal:

If I may make a suggestion that might make KX3 checkin easier.  On
other nets that I often check into, the first stations invited to
checkin are portable, mobile, and low power stations.  That gives
those stations a better chance of avoiding being covered up by
stronger stations.  Not sure if this could be incorporated to the
Elecraft-SSB net protocol?

I have checked in with my KX3 sn475 several times and usually I wait
till the near the end of the net when the dust settles a bit.  I do
have the advantage of a yagi at 50-feet.  I also checked in with my
K3/10 sn4340 barefoot many times before I had an amplifier (I have
both 120w and 250w amps).

I will try checking in this Sunday with 250w.  Past couple weeks prop
has not been nice.

I wonder if this would be a good 'fund raiser' for Hamfests.  There are a bunch
of wounded warriors here in NC fighting their battles with the VA.

One of the local veteranarians has setup a pets for vets to help some of the
folk with PTSD.  (Having a dog that loves you unconditionally, and helps give a
reason to get out of bed is a GREAT thing for some of them...) -- I suspect a
bunch would find ham radio a great way to pass the time while healing.

I would like to thank Don Wilhelm  W3FPR for his help trouble
 shooting and
walking me through a trouble shooting of a donated kio2 kit that did not
work. Don you assistance was right on and you hit the nail on the
 head and
 solved the problem.

I would also like to thank the fine people at Elecraft. Once Don had
isolated the problem and it was a transistor. I called Elecraft and
 spoke
with Howard. I explained that Don and I had been trouble shooting a
 KIO2 for
a Wounded Warrior new ham and needed a transistor. I gave him a part
 number
and Howard said I will get it sent out to you tomorrow. It arrived
 fast and
 resolved the problem.

The radio was given to the Wounded Warrior today and he was beaming with
pride. A bunch of local hams came out and built a dipole antenna and
 pitched
in to get him on the air.

When he found out that John, Don, Howard from Elecraft had all help a

they did not know it brought a tear to his eyes. For a Wounded
 Warrior who
also suffers from PTSD. Ham radio allows him to met new people and talk
around the world. Right now he has a Elecraft K2/10, we are all going to
work on getting him a mic and eventually up to a 100 watts. But he
 showed
great interest in qrp. The mic will not be used much I suspect as he has
also expressed a great interest to do CW.

So, Thanks to all of you that help in this project. It reassured me that
hams are great people and that Elecraft is the very best in customer
service. I know that most the hams down here could not believe that
 Elecraft
would send the part out and that it was so easy to get ahold of a
knowledgeable person from the company. I can assure you that the Wounded

Thank you all. It was very touching.

With my antenna roughly perpendicular to where the signal needs to get to the
net, I could hear occasional snippets, but not enough there to listen to.  I
need to rotate the antenna about 90 degrees to make a difference.  (Perhaps
next week.) - There was a fair bit of activity at 2-3 on 20, so I suspect the
dipole is my problem.  (I checked with a couple of others in the general area,
and they could hear the net nicely.. but with S9 noise, all I could hear was
just a few snippets of call signs.  sigh

However.. NEXT week (with luck) I'll be roughly perpendicular to the current
orientation if I can get something over another tree limb.

Yes happy 4th July, kicking us out of the US was one thing but throwing the
tea in Boston Harbour was totally inexcusable:)

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 - buy without KXAT3?

2013-06-25 Thread Bill Blomgren (kk4qdz)
This evening I added a gator clip equipped chunk of line to the KX, and had it
grab hold of the downspout on the gutter, and about 50 feet of line spread over
the ground

End result: could get a 1.1:1 match on 40 and 20.. 10, 1.5:1... 160 wouldn't
tume effectivly.   Then again, it is about 100 feet to 120 feet of gutter,
which is a tad off for 160 meters

The results: tried to get into a SSB conversation, but was apparently drowed
out by the guys running 1kw... but who cares.. I'll make a contact one of these
days...

I have to say I have actually matched a mop bucket with my kx3 with internal
tuner! :)  It is bar none the best tuner I have used.

Re: [Elecraft] Problem on the first weekend...

2013-06-17 Thread Bill Blomgren (kk4qdz)
I'm not sure which part of what I did managed to make the machine confused
enough to lose the bias setting...

Had I known ahead of time that the error indicated that I would have just run
that calibration .. but did whatever caused that problem step on other
calibration  data?

Also the KX3 has to be powered by a power supply and not the internal batteries
for the TX Gain to calibrate.

Glad you're making headway.

I had no problems with kit number 21.

The book said set it to 4 watts (exactly) - so I did that.

The problem was that the transmit bias values were apparently lost somewhere
along the line.  Why? No idea.

I did the transmit bias adjustment procedure, then the transmit gain worked
perfectly.  Now the problem of finding a local with a spectrum analyzer to
reset the filtering on SSB.  sigh

Bill,

If its a KX3 you're dealing with, make sure the power is set to 10 watts
output before doing the TX gain calibration.

[Elecraft] YEEE HAA!

2013-06-13 Thread Bill Blomgren (kk4qdz)
The UPS tracker changed about an hour ago..

rebel yell  YEEE HAAA!  /rebel yell

The shipment arrived about 120 miles east of me today... It will make it to the
RDU area tonight.. and be out for delivery tomorrow.

Makes me wonder if UPS shipped it cross country on truck, or if it went by
rail..
