Re: [Elecraft] krc2 jumpers setting ..help

2018-03-27 Thread Robert Bajuk
Hi Noel,

I can share my settings which work just fine with TS480 (it should work
also with TS590 models)... N1MM talks just fine with the radio with KRC in
the middle

You need some small modification inside KRC2 Here are the settings for
19200 baud-rate

Jumpers IN: 3, 6, 8, 9, 10, and 21, 22, 23
Jumpers 14 & 17 bridged with voltage from pin 7 of U2 fed to this jumper
(~2" piece of wire).

Hope it will solve your problem, try it and report back

[Elecraft] Need +12v or +5v on TX

2016-05-10 Thread Robert Bajuk
Hi,

I am adding kind of RF limiter/protector to my my K3 signal path at the
ANT1 input and need to switch a small relay between TX/RX line. I would
like to keep protector circuit in small box inside the radio.
Where would be the easiest point to "steal" '+12v or +5v on TX only
(irrespective of the power settings, with or without KPA3). I know I could
use signal from Key out jack (active low) but I would rather find a point
inside the radio to switch relay with positive voltage and keep Key out
free.

Hi Fred,

Change your RRC Control setting under Keyer settings
Side tone -db [50-0]:
Set it to more reasonable value, 0 is the loudest, value is in "- db" :-)

Set it to 45 or 50 and you must see the difference

Hope it helps

[Elecraft] VOX / PTT combination on k3

2015-12-19 Thread Robert Bajuk
Hi,

Simple question... Is there a way to avoid VOX delay on CW mode when PTT is
used?

To be more concrete:

- CW and PTT signal are sent to K3 with N1MM directly from serial port (no
external keyer)
- external electronic keyer is connected to K3
- VOX is enabled

If I want CW keyer to work without PTT / paddle then VOX has to be enabled,
but VOX brings unwanted delay at the end when CW is sent from PC.

Re: [Elecraft] KRC2 and TS480

2014-04-08 Thread Robert Bajuk
Hi Steve,

I have KRC2 which works without issue with my remote TS-480.

I had conversation with Gary from Elecraft some time ago and his setup
proposal works OK for me.

Jumper settings inside KRC2:
---
Jumpers IN: 3, 6, 9, 10, and 21-23
Jumpers 14 17 bridged with voltage from pin 7 of U2 fed to this jumper
(~2 piece of wire).

Jumpers W7 and W8 depend of data rate, see KRC2 manual page 20

Hope it helps

2014-04-08 12:52 GMT+02:00 Steve Bunting stephen.bunt...@virgin.net:

 Hi everyone,

I have KRC2 band decoder that I used ages ago with my K2 - it still works
in that I can toggle bands when I hold the F1 button. I want to use it with
my remote TS-480 but the radio CAT isn't currently driving KRC2 at all and
I would like some advice on how to get it working, please.

Current set up: I have used the Kenwood jumper positions from the KRC2
manual and have a straight through serial cable from rig to KRC2. I am
using 4800 baud (W7 and W8 in place) and the radio CAT works with my PC.
The KRC2 is certainly in operate mode and I have a 13.8V PSU attached
 (stating the obvious!)

Questions: I suspect I need to apply the handshake jumper between W14 and
W17 for the TS-480? Does the position of W7 and W8 matter for 4800 baud?
I'm assuming the manual is correct. Can any 480/KRC2 users comment on
 anything else I have missed?

Hi Richard,

Check it out

I loaded the latest FW releases 4.83 and 1.38 into my K3 and KPA500 (I
don't own a KAT500) and everything works smoothly.

But while the K3 (MCU, DSP1, DSP2) used to take some 7-8 minutes to load,
it now takes over 30 minutes (yes, Utility 1.13.5.9 at 38400 bps) while all
details appear on the screen, which was not the case earlier, although I
 had been using 1.13.5.9 previously.

 Anyone else noticed this?

BH does ship internationally but not the CM500 headset.

Due to the manufacturers restrictions, we are unable to accept orders

Yamaha doesn´t want this headset to be distributed world wide.

For those outside the U.S who would like to purchase a Yamaha CM500
headset, BH does ship internationally with a few exceptions. See their
 “Destinations” page here for particulars:

  http://www.bhphotovideo.com/find/HelpCenter/Shipping.jsp#shippingDest

I purchased a CM500 from them several months ago. Since I’m only 30
miles away from them it got here in a flash. On past purchases from them of
other small items I have been satisfied as well. On the CM500, theirs was
the best price I could find.

I’m definitely not a headset guy – I much prefer the open-air speaker
environment when possible. Nevertheless, I like this headset overall. It is
very comfortable to wear for an extended period of time, even for those
with above-average hat sizes. I have used it a couple of times in phone
 contests.

I tried, but didn’t at all care for VOX operation. I find that there is
little acoustic isolation between the microphone stalk and the ear cup to
which it is attached, so when you move around, the noises that the headset
itself creates trigger the VOX. So I now use a footswitch and that works
beautifully. No unwanted noise triggering and no having the VOX drop during
a breath from a long contest exchange. With the footswitch, VOX also does
not get triggered when the XYL remarks “ANOTHER rare DX station that you
must work right now?!” The sound quality of the speakers in the set is just
fine and the mic is hot, so no worries about inadequacy in producing
appropriate voice level to the K3.

The usual disclaimers apply – I have nothing to do with BH other than
 being a satisfied customer.

I do have the same problem with TX Gain Calibration, 5w and 50w calibration
goes well, but 1mW calibration fails, I am getting the error something
like: Power set to 0.1 mW, 1.9 MHz, TX gain calibration failed because
transmit power did not reach the expected value.

I did reload FW, EE INIT, settings restore, nothing helps.

KXV3A is enabled and set to normal in config, no jumpers on W1 and W2, 50
Ohm dummy load on XVTR Out is OK. XV144 does not work properly, I believe
that is connected with XVTR Out problems. XVTR parameters in config are set
correctly.

Any ideas?

 quite apparent.

 Great fun.

Re: [Elecraft] adding 250Hz filer, any improvement?

2011-02-08 Thread Robert Bajuk
I found 8 pole 400 Hz and 5 pole 200 Hz as a great combination in last CQ 160m.
400 Hz filter was to wide most of the time.

On the other end of the spectrum: If the going is really tough, you
might consider our 200 Hz, 5-pole filter. It's a favorite of CW and
data-mode operators who routinely have to dig for weak ones between
monster signals in CW and data modes.

That would have been woefully inadequate in NA, but it was fine
there. So, the question I would ask is whether anyone in a non-EU
or NA QTH has compared the K3 400 Hz filter with narrower DSP with
the 250 Hz filter. Surely, the 400 Hz fliter +DSP would be far
superior to that old TS-50, so I would expect it to be fine. Note
that the K3 250 Hz filter is really about 370 Hz wide, compared to
435 for the 400 Hz one, so the difference isn't that great, anyway.

Perhaps Jorge can check this out in the next contest: Set the I
filter to 400 Hz, and the II filter to 250 Hz, both with the 400
Hz xtal filter. I'd be interested in the results.

 If I add a KFL3A-250 (250 Hz 8-pole) filter I will notice it better

Re: [Elecraft] P3 Questions

2010-12-05 Thread Robert Bajuk
From the P3 instruction manual:

When used with a K3, this power may be taken from the 12VDC OUT jack on the
K3 rear panel. The K3 is capable of supplying power to both the P3 and the
Elecraft PR6 six-meter preamplifier at the same time if 12VDC or greater is
supplied to the K3’s power connector.
Lower voltages at the K3 connector will cause the total current required by
the P3 and PR6 to exceed the 500 mA limit from the K3’s 12VDC outlet.

P3 requirements:
Power: 10-15 VDC is a standard 2.1 mm barrel connector for a 10-15 VDC
supply capable of delivering up to 0.5A.

 I don't have a P3, so I don't know what it's power requirements are, but
 you're going
to have to have a power supply anyway for the K3..

I am condidering a purchase of a P3 with my k3. Do I understand correctly
that I would need an additional power supply for the P3? Or would I be able
to connect it to the power jack on back of the k3 for power? If I need an
addiitonal power supply that's going to make the equipment jammed packed.
But I also read on the reflector that the power jack on the back of the K3
doesn't have sufficient amps to run the K3. Any advise would be greatly
 appreciated. Mark KB3Z
