RE: Laser Safety Calculations

2000-10-17 Thread George Sparacino
Hi Rich,

Sounds reasonable. Actually, it sounds like a tool that a transciever
vendor would offer on a webpage to assist their customers in development
using that vendors' component... Has anyone come across such a thing ?

George

Hi George and Chris:

Better still, TC76 should provide a spreadsheet such
that, upon entering all the data, the spreadsheet does
the calculations and gives you the emission level and
the emission Class.

Chris,

Try contacting Donald Drozdenko at HP (Aligent) at 408-435-5807. Don headed
the testing / certification efforts for HP's Laser Led products back when

All,

I too share the sentiments of another member of the group that the
calculations for laser safety in EN 60825-1 are made somewhat more difficult
to follow due to the difficulty of reading the diagrams and the symbols. I
myself have looked at the diagrams a few times and can't figure out what
symbol is representing what angle ...

I would love to see a few examples and more complete descriptions of the
nomenclature.
Is there a text out there, either commercial or from IEC that goes through
these calculations in more detail?

Thanks in advance

Re: Sharp edge point

2000-10-17 Thread Stephen Phillips
  Bob,

I agree with your statement about using it to
settle arguments. That is why we bought it.
The bloody fingers of several engineers were
not convincing enough, so we had to resort
to a tool of less subjectivity. It succeeded it
getting the then prototype sheet metal in
question run through a deburring process as
a production function. Downplaying its' own
inherent degree of subjectivity, for my
money - it works as well as a gauge as it
does as an argument ender, and I like having
it in my tool arsenal.

After some experience, I would prefer to stick with the wording in the

Universal Shielding Corp. USC-44 8'x8'x8' sheet metal over wood for the bottom

The unassembled unit is located at Boulder, CO. Lowest cost crating is $200

For this example, your total cost would be $4,300. We will also consider the

Product Safety Workshops Vemdors' Night

2000-10-17 Thread Art Michael

Hello all,

In just a month, on the 15th of November, the largest (and best in the
U.S.) electrical product safety workshops and show are scheduled to take
place in Boxborough Massachusetts.

The Northeast Product Safety Society, Inc., is sponsoring 27 Technical
Sessions (11 A.M. to 5:45 P.M.) followed by their Sixth Annual Vendors'
Show (50 Table-top exhibits, 5:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M.). This is a major
undertaking and is carried our as part of our educational offerings.

The workshop and the exhibits both encompass electrical product safety and
emc interests (among others). For full listings and Registration Forms for
the Workshop2000 and/or the Vendors' Night, visit www.nepss.org where
you will find all the necessary information.

There is no charge for either event (there is a sandwich-buffet meal too,
free to NPSS Members and 15.00 to others). Is this event worthy of the
travel that some will have to undertake? We believe so (last year we had a
visitor from the U.K.). If you would like to meet and network with your
associates, test labs, suppliers of components and services to the trade,
you ought to be there.

We hope to see you there.

Regards, Art Michael, President - NPSS,Inc.
