Re: EN 55024 Annex A.1
Joe, The test was done by Nemko Canada using the clamp method. The clamp was calibrated a few hours before my test. The equipment was 10 cm over a ground plane, and they were monitoring the test voltage with a clamp to be sure not to overtest. Is the coupling network a better bet than the clamp? Our card does not have a ground plane and I suspect that this is part of the problem. Also the components for setting impedances could be closer to the chip. But before we scramble to fix the board I'd like to be sure it is possible to do with the AMD component. Their AEs are trying to get me this information, if you could put me in touch with your contact who passed with this chip that could help too. Thanks again for your input. Best regards, David.
Re: EN 55024 Annex A.1
In a message dated 5/24/01, David Gelfand writes: When we inject as per IEC 61000-4-6, the 1 kHz tone is demodulated and is VERY loud in the telephone earpiece! This happens no matter which i/o cable we inject, even the power cord. Hi David: While it is not surprising for an unprotected SLIC port to have trouble with the 61000-4-6 test, I think it is abnormal for the problem to be equally pronounced when cables other than tip/ring are being tested. There may be a problem with your ground connections and/or test setup. Are you using CDNs or the clamp method? Do you have a good ground plane as specified in the standard? I recently purchased most of the equipment required to perform this test, and I have been experimenting in the lab to characterize various DAAs and SLICs. I have found that the results I get are somewhat dependent on the specifics of the test setup. The first thing I would suggest is that you review your test setup to be sure it fully complies with 61000-4-6. I have not tested the AM79R70, but I did run some quick tests on a circuit that used the Intersil HC55183, which is also a ringing SLIC. In that test, the SLIC was pretty quiet at carrier frequencies above 1 MHz, but there was some 1 KHz demodulation at lower frequencies. I have not had time to experiment with possible fixes. I do know of someone who is using the AM79R70 and claims that they have passed this test. Unfortunately, I do not know the details. By the way, don't feel too bad if you are having trouble with this test. It is a brutal test, and most people I know who have tested their existing designs have failed. Since passing this test becomes mandatory on July 1 for CE marking, I expect that there will be a lot of activity as the July 1 date approaches. RTTE or only EMC / LVD ?
Hi Group, A satellite (range 10-14GHz) consists of two parts, the modulation unit (IDU= in door unit) and the RF unit (ODU= out door unit). The two units are connected together with a coaxial cable which can be up to 100m long and it carry the IF signal of a couple hundreds MHz. The ODU consists of an up-converter, amplifier, antenna and so on, while the IDU is the modulator/demodulator, power unit and generating the IF signal. We assume (for sure) that the complete system is covered by RTTE. But the IDU will also be available as a stand-alone unit on the marked. No teleterminal connections are available from the IDU, only RS-232 input and IF output on coax cable to the ODU. Our question is: For the IDU, will RTTE apply or will only EMC (and LVD) apply, as a stand-alone unit? We feel this system looks like a broadband TV-cable system. You have a RF transmitter, but it only transmits via cable. No harm on the RF spectrum. Double Crimp - History Request
Folks, A while back I recall some interesting discussion revolving around the double crimp requirements of connectors onto conductors. The discussion held many interesting views in terms of what double crimp means and what the origins of the requirement were but alas, I can't seem to locate the threads on the RCIC archives. If anyone has a copy of the discussion threads, could someone please forward it on to me? My opinion and not that of my employer.
