Secondary Grounding

2001-05-30 Thread MartinJP

Group,

This is a general product safety question:

In order to avoid test failures during a single fault condition where the
primary ground is removed, what design methods can be used to add a second
ground to the system so that a ground is still provided even during a
single fault condition of removing the primary ground?

All responses are appreciated.

The point that is being made in EN55024 is that some people interpreted
the Basic Standard, IEC61000-4-2, as requiring the contacts of
connectors to be zapped, which is pretty unlikely in practice and almost
impossible to cope with in many cases.

RE: Ethernet baluns

2001-05-30 Thread David_Sterner

Paolo,

You need a mini hub with 10Base2 and 10BaseT connections. A balun will not
work because 10BastT is a 4-wire connection (T1, T2 R1, R2) whereas 10Base2
is a 2-wire connection. Also 10b2 supports daisy chain but 10bT is
point-to-point.

What kinds of EMC problems are you having with 10b2? Emissions or immunity?

David

RE: EMI from Electrical wheelchairs

2001-05-30 Thread Price, Ed

Francois:

I was looking at the manual on an electric wheelchair about two years ago. I
was pleased to see that the manual contained a Declaration of Conformity
(but I sure don't remember the EN's it claimed). I also found it interesting
that the manual specifically stated that the wheelchair also was compliant
with a 20 V/M field from (IIRC) 30 MHz to 1000 MHz. That's nice, since
personal electronic emitters (cell phones, PCS, handheld CB sets) typically
generate about 5 to 10 V/M at about 1 to 2 meters distance. That increases
the chances that the wheelchair user can safely use a cell phone without
spinning in circles (or worse).

Hi All

Can anybody please tell me where I can find information on EMI from and
interfering with Electric wheelchairs. I recently had a question from
somebody after a patient with multiple sclerosis seemed to be affected
by something when placed in an electric wheelchair. In a normal
wheelchair his movements etc seemed normal for a person with his
condition. In the electric wheelchair his condition seemed to be much
worse.

Anybody heard about similar cases?

RE: HERP / HERF

2001-05-30 Thread Price, Ed

John:

That site is a somewhat quirky reference. The Google search engine hit
that page, and just what was listed on the page was enough for me to use it
as a pointer for Hjalmar. If you look at the host domain:

http://liun.hektik.org/

you find that it's the Long Island Underground Network, and then follow
the hightech link:

http://liun.hektik.org/hightech/

and you can find all kinds of dubious information on Tesla rays, cross-field
antennas, ghost detectors, spirit communication and projected energy
weapons.

Uhh, it's not exactly a hard-core engineering site! Links on such sites tend
to be very ephemeral. grin
