2015-08-17 Thread Christian Stöveken
Just a reminder for everyone planning on coming and everyone who can
spontaneously make it happen to stop by.

We meet September 19. to 20. (8:00 to late in the evening).
If you happen to already be in town 18. evening and are already itching to
make things happen ring me up or stop by our workshop.

Everyone is encouraged to prepare some slides of a past LinuxCNC project be
that pictures, build log or lessons learned.

Don't be shy you are among the like of you. A few minutes is plenty.

Collaboration regarding the meeting happens here
https://piratenpad.de/p/linuxcnc.
People attending http://doodle.com/h2dct52sepshrxcx (so far).

Cheers,
Christian

Back to the original topic - looking at the code there seems to have been
mostly search and replace modifications
from axis to joints, but the problem I was asking about doesn't (yet) seem
to have been fixed there either

TODO for the joints_axes branch
* clean up joints/axes throughout the whole code (lots of parts already
done)
* define a unified jogging way (both for joints and axes)
* implement joint-limits for carthesian moves (requires simulating the
speed in userspace)
* update configs
(and many other probably..)

TODO sort out axis/joints issues:
* limits need to be imposed on joints (tricky with kins)

[Emc-users] problem setting appropriate speeds in joint and world mode for 6 axis robot with genserkins

2015-04-30 Thread Christian Stöveken
So I found like a day and a half to work on our Mantuec R15 / granite
devices VSD-XE
project again.

When trying to run some gcode (generated with RhinoCAM) I noticed
the robot was only moving very slowly in world mode in one direction (X
axis).

I setup all 6 axis as angular axis with the speed/acceleration settings
tuned
to slightly less than the VSD-XE's can handle.

When switching to world mode the speed limits from axis 1/2/3 apply for
X/Y/Z which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Is this the intended behaviour?

Any ideas on how I should tackle this problem - keeping in mind that
exceeding the inidividual axis' speed/acceleration is sensitive for
the proper operation of the robot.

For a start I want to operate the robot in world mode because I can easily
generate
gcode for it (abusing it as xyz machine + turn table) with the cam software
at hand.

I intend to use it as 5-axis-continuous mill - but don't have access to the
suitable cam
software yet.

[Emc-users] Getting featues implemented / bugs fixed

We had the discussion with a few people during the Stuttgart meetup
on how to aid advancing LinuxCNC towards specific things needed
when used in an industrial environment.

What my suggestion was is to hire someone to implement the missing
features - or even crowdsource the funding for fixing bugs and
implementing the missing features.

As it turns out - a platform for that already exists:

 Any idea about the load
capacity (1 kg? 5kg? They definitely do not seem like capable of
 anything more than 10 kg).

5kg + 18kg on axis 3 (welder)

What is their current condition, especially
 wave reducers (harmonic gears)?

don't know, haven't found the time to look at them.

Do I understand correctly that you got
only bare robots, no control cabinets?

yes, because unfortunately the electrics get recycled at some different
company that I don't know.

 Any ideas about motor
parameters - voltage and current? What kind of position feedback is
there - resolver, incremental or absolute encoder?

I looked inside two motors and the position feedback is done with resolvers.
I don't know about the voltage, just that the robot is normally used with
the IRC5 controller.

After some cursing about chinese manuals, in the end I got those Kinco
servo drives to work, and they seem to work fine, once the braking
resistor is added, and their prices seem nice:

 http://www.zappautomation.co.uk/electrical-products/servo-systems/ac-and-dc-brushless-servo-drivers/cd-range-344.html

I do not know of any other options in this price range with 220 VAC
input, which allows to save on power supply.
I used them without Hall sensor feedback, I have config backup that
worked with those motors from waterjet (the one that pleased folks
with white smoke went to rewinding and was back in service soon after
the event) and could share some basic advice about them.

That's always welcome.

[Emc-users] LinuxCNC Meeting Stuttgart, Germany 2014

2014-06-27 Thread Christian Stöveken
We're thinking about again organising this years LinuxCNC get together in
Germany.

Check out last year's meeting page
http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?LinuxCNC_Integrator_Meeting_2014_Germany
 to see what went on
http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?LinuxCNC_Integrator_Meeting_2014_Germany
.

Here is the doodle link to find the right weekend
http://doodle.com/qn5sr87e6atphk43.

I was looking for a way to make it even more interesting for everybody
coming
and maybe advance the 6-axis robot side of LinuxCNC.

So I got this idea to buy these old ABB robots
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/ILDxiQv6E5zIjV8-K71u8UE5HkQJSmMvUr1JJYrhPGg?feat=directlink
from the local scrap machine dealer
to convert and give away at cost for anybody who wants one.

Anyhow Andreas was convinced and just went ahead and bought all three of
them
(~250€ per robot).

Now we still need to find some cheap drivers so I can order a bunch and we
have a lot to play this year ;-)

The only thing I did regarding LinuxCNC within the last months was to setup
a machine with LinuxCNC sources + rl + Eclipse and the configs to get
everything to build nicely (cmake was a real bit** I have to say) and I
could be working sometime soon on some rl integration (to get rid of the
singularity lockup problem).

Anyhow let me know what you think - what you would want to get done - if
you want to come and so on.

  Hello Everybody,

I collected these emails of the eleven interested people who already
stated their interest in a linuxcnc meeting.

Four of those people are close to Stuttgart, two are from Austria
(please correct me if I am wrong). So I think it would be sensible to
meet somewhere in or around Stuttgart.

So I think there are three mayor questions:

  1.
Location - Something big enough to bring gear, something to mess around
with, maybe have one cnc machine there ? Anybody got ideas ?

As we found out, there are several people from that region. Since they are
using LinuxCNC, I would expect them to have some premises with some
machines with LinuxCNC on them. What I am trying to say - is there a
possibility that we visit somebody's workshop?

We could quite possibly use my workplace - where we have access to a table
CNC mill (~1x1m), lathe, welder, ...

  2.
Date - maybe not before the summer holidays start ? So maybe late
September or early October 2013 - when everybody is back ? That would
give people time to make travel arrangements and have a chance at a
  still free schedule.

^^ fine with me - also later on this year would be an option for me.
What does everyone else think?

I've also setup a pad for everyone to write down what you would like to
see/make happen at the event.
