As I have mentioned before, Debian is trying to incorporate the p[ipewire system only as a sound server in a Gnome-specific way, which makes the pipewire system, as I have often said, a very special structure not found anywhere else. The fact that you can't install pipewire-alsa (which is created as a module that performs an important function), or that you don't have to include libcamera, are just a few examples of this. pipewire-alsa is installed, it has always been. What i can't install is pipewire-media-session. It is out of line to say that there is a problem in trying to use that particular pipewire system for enlightenment, isn't it? It is, at least for me. I tried to boot my system with my headphone already turned on, i've never did it before, and i found that it connects to the laptop when gdm starts. After gdm exits and the enlightenment session is started my headphone are disconnected for a few seconds and then reconnected. My guess is that this disconnection happens because the sound server is restarted between session change and the mixer module is started in that little time, so it doesn't find any server. Is there a way to run pipewire in a system wide way so that it doesn't need to be restarted when launching a Xorg session? Enlightenment itself does not incorporate the pipewire system at all, and yet I believe that it is in the realm of self-responsibility for us, the users, to dare to use the pipewire system. Re: [e-users] enlightenment audio default device issue
Update: looks like my problem is not actually mixer not recognizing pipewire, it's just that the mixer icon is not working after E starts. Mixer itself is working as i can click on the shelf icon, click on "mixer" button to open the dialog and there i can see that all is fine: soundcard is recognized, bluetooth is also there, all sliders and checkboxes are working. What's not working is the shelf icon. It doesn't display available soundcards nor bluetooth devices and it lacks its blue circle representing the volume level. I cannot even change volume scrolling on it. Also, i don't see the mixer icon that is usually on the titlebar of windows which requires access to audio control, for example firefox on youtube. But i can see the slider for firefox volume in the mixer dialog when i open a youtube video and i can adjust its volume as i like. Reloading mixer module makes all working again as expected. Arch Linux system enlightenment-git efl-git this would be a pipewire issue (or deeper down - kernel, udev? some device being unplugged and plugged in?). e's mixer doesn't even remember what audio device was used last - it does not try to restore it. it leaves this up to pulse audio. yes - i know you use pipewire. from e's point of view, it's talking to pulse audio - so it uses libpluse to do that. :) pipewire can emulate pulse in this way so anything that deals with pulse can just work with pipewire. Well, I didn't know e mixer doesn't remember audio device priority. I have to know why, sometimes, priority changes. May be because, sometimes, i launch two X session in same time... I use pipewire-git and wireplumber-git ; they work fine, much better than pulseaudio in my case. I have to investigate then I'll report this issue upstream.
