I see nothing about EVs here. I did a search on the article for EV, battery and
electric. What am I missing?

Re: [EVDL] Chevy Volt in long term storage?

2016-10-30 Thread EVDL Administrator via EV
Storing it with the traction battery at 50% or so is in accord with usual
good practice for lithium batteries. I would not suggest storing it at full
charge, especially if it's going to be in a warm-to-hot storage facility.

I would be at least as concerned, if not more so, about the ICE components
gumming up in long term storage than about traction battery problems
appearing.

Re: [EVDL] Chevy Volt in long term storage?

2016-10-30 Thread SLPinfo.org via EV
Bob,

I have never done it with ours, but if I remember correctly, my 2012 Volt
manual says to run down the charge to about 50% just before any long-term
storage. The low self discharge of lithium should mean no need for any
maintenance charging.

My observations using LinuxMint/Thunderbird/Firefox:
The nabble link worked. The electrek link on the nabble page worked and
did not seem to have the "cid=" cruft. The above electrek link failed.
Manually removing the tail end cruft allowed the link to work.

I don't know where your "cid=" is coming from but apparently not all see it.

Works fine for me. The article's title is "New electric concept car with
`mobile office´ promises to redefine luxury interiors."

I don't see any extraneous characters on the end of any of the links.

I checked several other EVLN posts, and all the links worked for me.

You might try a different browser or computer to see if that makes a
difference.

Total WAG: I suppose it's possible that Nabble was tinkering with their back
end scripts when you tried that link, and you just happened to catch it at
the wrong moment.

Re: [EVDL] Insurance Forensic Eng crying wolf ... (does this explain why Insurers' EV-uptake is slow?)

2016-10-30 Thread Mark Abramowitz via EV

I would agree that there are real problems with the article, but to ascribe it
to either a conspiracy or self- interest on the part of the author is
presumptuous or even dangerous.
Personally, I think that a carefully worded response to the article (including
data would be valuable) would be worthwhile, and provide some needed education
to both the author and readers of the publication. Sure, there may be some
downsides from an *insurance* point of view *right now* of BEVs, but also
strong advantages compared to ICEs that insurers should be aware of. And then
there are the assertions that are just completely out of left field that ought
to be corrected.
IMHO, of course.

[EVDL] Insurance Forensic Eng crying wolf ... (does this explain why Insurers'

% Normally, I seek out only the positive EV news item for posting. But
sometimes I find what seems like an anti-EV release that might shed some
light on other points concerning EVs. I ask that for those interested, bring
up the URL (below) on your own (I did not want to post all their
mis-information as that only perpetuates their incorrect statements). I did
put a few of the key points you should examine (see below).

- ? Am I right in thinking the purpose of this Eng's statements, are to
promote his company's agenda ? If so, then this is not necessarily a
Koch-Bros funded anti-EV/misinformation smear, but one that is intent on
helping drive business to that company ... (am I right?)

- Releases like this being sent out to Insurance companies will certainly
keep them from wanting to 'take a risk' on EVs, once they have read all the
overblown hype from the writer (his writing leans heavily on an 'EV sky is
falling' attitude) %
