That application doesn't capitalize on the flywheel's ultrafast
charging and discharging abilities.
And smoothing can be done by modulating the teslas' charging rates.

But hey, who knows. See

Nice, and they've sold a lot of them. It's not a battery hybrid,
though, more like ships that use electric drive.

I think no power is provided. (That's fairly standard at farmers' markets
in Los Angeles, something I'd like to change.) I think this event will
be in a public park. In any case, I was told we would need a generator
just for the bounce house, so I'm trying to find a replacement to power
just that one thing.

Indeed.

Status:

- Nichicon confirms they don't have a US model of the portable cademo
-> 110v unit yet.
- I'm talking with the guy who put solar on my roof; he also offers batteries
now (I gather Tesla PowerWall 2 and Sonnen Eco). I have no idea
if it's practical or wise to try to use one of those for this application,
but I could imagine lugging one of them over charged, and using
a panel or three during the day -- to show power going in, if nothing else.
Anyway, even if it's not, we could put up a solar panel in front of
the gas generator :-)

[EVDL] Question: EV with a 110v outlet with 2KW power rating?

2018-02-01 Thread Dan Kegel via EV
Hi all.

question for the EV connoiseurs out there:

I have a 2013 Nissan Leaf with a ChaDeMo port. Are there any
portable V2G units that can plug in and provide 2KW of power?
Alternately, are there any other EVs that support such a thing?

I saw such a thing at a Nissan booth at a recent event.
http://www.nichicon.co.jp/english/eco/pdfs/2012e_02.pdf
but it didn't look like it was aimed at mobile use.
And evidently they have a new system which would meet my needs:
http://www.nichicon-us.com/english/product_news/new173.html
but it's only available in Japan for now.

The application is a bounce house at a green fair; evidently those
need 2KW during inflation, and 1KW during operation
( see
http://partytime-rentals.com/learning-center/bounce-house-power-requirements/
).

Thanks,
Dan

So, like I said, if you're charging your EV at night, even getting
solar panels isn't enough to avoid emissions; if everyone
did that, we'd still be burning a lot of fossil fuel at night.

I think we're in violent agreement here.

What if *all* daytime power was supplied by solar? How would those
12 panels you mention reduce daytime emissions?

I'm talking about the endgame, not about conditions in 2017.

That's exactly right.

There are two kinds of green power available these days:
1) offset-driven, e.g. arcadia power
2) utility-provided, e.g. ladwp

In either case, you're voting with your money. Utility-provided
green power is more likely to actually reduce emissions IMHO,
but if enough people pick either, utilities and politicians will notice
the political support for clean power those customers represent.

Solar alone doesn't fully mitigate the emissions of EVs unless you
charge the EV when the sun is shining. If everybody gets an EV,
and everybody charges it at night, that's a lot of nighttime emissions.
If you charge at night, and want to avoid (non-net-)emissions, consider signing
up for green power or installing storage.

Me, I went with rooftop solar, LADWP green power, and nighttime charging.

suggests VW's going to build 3 L3 chargers along I-15.

BMW and Nissan are investing elsewhere:

[EVDL] Los Angeles to Las Vegas missing links for CHAdeMO users?

2017-09-24 Thread Dan Kegel via EV
Hi all!
My family drove from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and back this summer,
but we did it in our ICE rather than our Leaf...
if only there were CHAdeMO fast chargers in Barstow, Baker, and Primm,
it'd be possible.

I hear EVGo is planning a fast charger in Baker, but it's still in the future.

Anyone heard any news lately?

I'd even be happy with a working chain of CCS chargers, that'd be an excuse
to replace my 2013 Leaf :-)
