[EVDL] Citicar chassis available

I have a bare Citicar chassis taking up room that I need for other projects. It 
had been hit high in the front and has 1 easily repaired damaged tube, 
otherwise no other structural damage. part of the plastic pan still there but 
probable sun rot. I originally thought to use it to build an altered wheelbase 
car for NEDRA but lost interest when the class didn't appear. No paper work on 
it, if anyone wants it I would take $100 bucks for it, otherwise I am going to 
have to just get out the sawzall and scrap it. You would need to pick it up in 
Cave Creek Az. Dach.

[EVDL] Clear stick-on film for protecting your EV

Occasionally I watch MotorWeek on PBS just to see how well and often they
report on EVs.
That episode #3704H was not about EVs, but did have 1 pih. The car-guy shop
segment had a company showing how an easy to apply film could protect the
body (like window tinting, but clear to protect the vehicle). The vehicle
they demoed on was a Porsche ice. But this product would also be applicable
to plugins, if that company had pre-cut pieces for them. 

If I had just taken ownership of a Bolt or Tesla-3 EV, I would consider
installing this film to help protect the EV from scratches, dings, and other
debris from stones thrown from the vehicle in front of you.

Interestingly, when I searched their web site, though not all EVs were
listed, they did offer quite a few. So, since the 2010 production EV's
beginnings, some companies that mainly provide services to ice, are now also
offering them to plugins:

It's a vinyl wrap.  They can be done on any car, it uses a flexible adhesive 
film, applied, heat-shrunk, and trimmed, not pre-cut for specific cars. 

People commonly get new cars wrapped if they know they'll be selling them, and 
want to protect the original paint (unwrap again just before sale).  Typically 
you get an opaque wrap, not only does it look better and give you a lot of new 
color choices, it also protects the paint underneath better. 

I wrapped my Smart ED in matte black with a matte battleship gray Le Mans 
stripe.

It’s only a matter of time before EV charging stations are integrated with
conventional gas stations. It only makes sense for oil companies to start
adding charging stations to their gas stations, as it will keep them in the
loop as electric cars become more and more popular. It will also add more
charging options for EV owners. Shell is one of the big oil companies that’s
beginning to add some charging units to its gas stations, with one of the
first ones being spotted in the England recently.

Shell has recently partnered with Allego to start creating EV charging
stations throughout Britain and the Netherlands. Recently, a Tesla Model S
owner, Dave Davies, spotted one of these Shell EV units at a ‘petrol’
station outside of London.

The Shell-branded EV charging “pump” seems to have three different charge
options, likely to allow for multiple vehicles with different charge
requirements. It also looks like a traditional gas pump, which is smart
branding on Shell’s part. It’s said that Shell is charging £0.25p/ kWh
($0.34 USD), which seems to be about average for the UK. However, there are
rumors of Shell increasing that price to  £0.49p/kWh, which is far too high.

Having a company like Shell start adding EV charging stations to its current
gas stations is smart. It will not only keep Shell relevant as oil demands
diminish but it will open up new business. There doesn’t seem to be any
indication that EV charging will become as fast as a traditional gas fill-up
any time soon. Until then, EV owners will have to wait quite a while for
their car to charge most of the way. So it makes sense to put places for
customers to eat, sit and relax for a bit where charging stations are. So it
could open up new ventures for Shell and other oil companies. And
considering that Shell already has 25,000 stations worldwide, they’re
already located in good areas. We will likely see more stations like this
from other oil companies in the near future.

Vinyl wrap is similar to some of the protective films but not identical. I 
don't believe any heat shrinking is used for Xpel clear films. Xpel is also 
thicker and more resilient making it more effective against rock chips and 
scratches. There are some pretty impressive threads with photos on the Tesla 
Motors Club forums showing how effective clear protective wraps like Xpel can 
be. To my eye, Xpel looks a lot like the flexible clear protection films that 
are available for mobile phone screens in that it provides scratch/gouge 
protection and probably a little bit of impact protection.

That's a good call. Easy to check (and fix).

While we're on the subject... The K BC20 is a good charger. Not a great one; 
but much better than most consumer grade lead-acid battery chargers. It has a 
GFCI for safety. It regulates the charging current and voltage, and has the 
necessary fuses, cooling fan, temperature compensation, and overtemperature 
shutdown. It is over 95% efficient; higher than many modern chargers. It is well 
built, small, and light weight.


However, it is not isolated. It is not power factor corrected; indeed, its phase 
control circuitry works exactly like the dimmer in your dining room lights. That 
can generate a "buzz" in AM radios, and makes AC cords and plugs run hotter.


If I were in Mary's situation, I'd fix it rather than replace it. It's a simple 
design, and uses normal easy-to-get parts. Unless it's gotten wet or been 
dropped down a flight of stairs, it's likely to be cheaper to repair it than 
replace it.

SAFFORD - Recently, a group of Tucson auto enthusiasts swung through Graham

Electric Vehicle Association (TEVA), has made the trip annually since 2012.
In that year, the centennial of Arizona statehood, Asher visited all 15
county seats in his 2011 Nissan Leaf.

It was the first commercially produced electric vehicle to visit Safford.

In January 2012, when Asher first toured the state, the only electric
vehicle charging stations were in large cities. TEVA President David Gebert,
who accompanied Asher on this year’s road trip, said that had changed.

“There are a lot more RV places that will let you charge for a nominal fee,
usually $2 or $2.50 an hour,” said Gebert.


This year, Asher brought his new ride - a 2017 Tesla Model X with a 75
kilowatt battery pack and dual motor - with the Leaf in tow. His visit came
during National Drive Electric Week, Sept. 9-17.


Starting out in Tucson, the group made its way to Nogales. They stopped at
Nogales City Hall, which recently installed two NEMA 14-50 chargers.

“I think part of it was they knew we were coming, because we let them know a
month in advance that we wanted to schedule a meet-up,” said Gebert.
“They’ve been thinking last year about having some plug stations, so they
put in two plugs.

“For the City of Nogales right now, this is just the beginning of what they
want to do. They’re looking at putting in a regular charge station. They
said that’ll probably be in by the end of October.”

In Safford, the travelers met with Graham County Chamber of Commerce
Executive Director Patrick O’Donnell, who inquired into the costs of
installing a charging station.

Electric vehicle owners can find charging locations on a map at
www.plugshare.com or on the PlugShare app. According to the map, the Safford
area has three public charging areas: Johnson Motors, Roper Lake State Park
and Lexington Pines Resort. One of the TEVA members’ goals was to locate
others and add them to the map.

According to PlugShare, drivers passing through Clifton can charge up at
Tyler’s Taste of Texas BBQ, the Rode Inn Motel and North Clifton RV Park.

A fast charger can charge an electric vehicle in 20-30 minutes, stopping at
80 percent charge so as not to damage the vehicle battery. A fast charger
supplies 500 volts and 100 amps, or 50 kilowatts, while a home charger
supplies 240 volts and 20 amps.

“We’re looking for truck stops to put in something like this (fast chargers)
along with gas and diesel,” said Gebert.

They're electric, too.

From renewable fuels to eco-friendly airplane tugs -- British Airways is
interested in decreasing its ecological footprint. The airline has just
announced the roll out of five new Molotok remote-controlled electric
vehicles that can push back aircraft from the gate. These eco-friendly
vehicles replace the standard diesel tugs that you typically see at airports
so that a single ramp agent can push an aircraft out with a little control
device worn on their belt. British Airways claims that it is the "first
airline worldwide" to implement these tugs.

The five new electric airplane tugs are in operation at 25 gates at Terminal
5 in Heathrow Airport. The Molotoks are able to move planes with more
precision than traditional driven vehicles. The Mototok website claims that
the electric vehicles can park up to 40 percent more airlines in the same
amount of parking space. They hold their charge for up to three days and
will be charged at stations at each of the 25 gates at Heathrow.

"British Airways is the most punctual, major short-haul airline in London,"
said British Airway's COO Klaus Goersch in a statement. "The introduction of
the Mototok will help us to stay at the top of the league and keep our
flights departing on time. This major step to modernize our operation is a
first in the airline industry, and part of wider investment in new
technology that will enhance the experience our customers have."
